54andfatnomore and forkers, your milk is fine if it is in your allowance. I have like Frog ( who is one of our poster people) 2 teas with semi-skimmed milk and one coffee with a dash of real milk. I do not like tea with full fat or coffee with skim, and too old to change that. The rest is green or herbal tea or water.

54 I would have what you like, as long as you are getting enough fat to feel satisfied with your other food. If you like full fat milk – remember it is only about 4% I think I would have that. If you balance your protein and fat you still won’t have too much of either with 800 cals.

Forkers nurse your drink and remember water looks just like vodka!

    Congrats Capt Lynne!
I can’t get over that week on week you’re still losing decent amounts! What happened to the plateau effect! You’d be looking at

Just watched the latest offering of Dr M’s Trust Me I’m a Doctor, about the wonderful effects of 20mls of olive oil. Had my hair trimmed again at the weekend, getting used to the reflection in the mirror that is Me! Eating a daily dose of homemade pumpkin soup, (well it is winter in this part of the world) and slowly turning orange. Google assures me its a temporary effect!

Have an awesome week everyone (week 21). Decided I sound super, super elated on this forum, but it’s just the effect of this regime, considering that other elements in my life aren’t super, but nothing is derailing this train and Capt Lynne is the train in front.

    Cheers

  • GemGem welcome and I hope you will go well on your second day. I have to tell I have always hated diets, because I was always hungry and, while I won’t say I am not hungry on this one, I know that when meal time comes I can eat something nice, including things, like cheese, bacon, avocado, nuts etc.

I am just about to start on my 2nd 8 weeks and have only lost a stone (6.4 kgs)( many lose heaps more) but I am very pleased and will keep on because I have a lot to lose. Just plan your next tasty small meal, and then your next, …..etc, and you will be off and running.

I do miss my wine, but it is better to stay off it for a few weeks, because our wine is too nice for just one glass! I have had a few and they contributed to plateaus and a bounce.

Your first week’s loss will thrill you.

    Good luck

I have finished my 8 weeks and lost a stone (6.4kg) This is very good for me, as apart from baby weight I have never lost this much before. I am just keeping on in much the same vein. Will see how I go. I have not been this weight 72.9kg since about 1997

c0sie, well done, and well done to all.

Strangely I’m not hungry in the evening – a couple of green teas is more than enough. Occasionally a miso soup but not often.
I actually find that I sleep better and, fortunately I’ve never used to eating dinner anyway.
By consuming the 800 calories across two meals and a couple of espresso coffees I have more options as to what I can eat.
I realise my mode of eating wouldn’t work for everyone and I am retired so have flexibility!
All I know is that it’s working and I feel better than I have for years. Still have about 17 kgs to go so hopefully it will keep working for me.

Yay I’m going to the mooooon!

I made soup tonight as well – lentil my fav yum.

My walnut brittle turned out pretty good as well, not quite as good as pecans but still good.

I’ve now got 15 key rings ready to sell and I’ve made a little triangular pouch which was just a practise but turned out nicely so I’ve given that to my daughter.

I’m just messing about with ideas and combinations really but I’m recognising that what I need to do from a productive time perspective is to decide I’m making a number of something – say 10 key rings, and make them all the same, or at least the same colour to minimise changing threads on the machine etc.

We had hunters chicken for dinner, I do love that so yummy. I kept the chilli level low tonight and gave it to my son – he demolished his as well.

Tomorrow night I’ll be signing up for a proper paypal account to receive payments and then … I need to list those keyrings somewhere. Still haven’t quite decided where though lol.

Thank you everyone for being so kind and giving great advice.
I have decided to stick with the 800 diet and I’m now at the end of week nine.

Captain Lynne, your results are great. You have given me great motivation to carry on. When I was doing the first eight weeks I monitored my blood sugars daily but now I am just going to do it a couple of times a week. I agree with you on weighing daily, some days when I may be tempted to cheat weighing myself stops that.

I would say to anyone who is unsure please try the 800 diet, not only do you feel great about the fast weight loss, the blood sugar results are fantastic, something that would never have been achieved with medication..

When I asked my doctor for advice on this diet I was told categorically not to be so stupid. I’m glad I decided to listen to my own voice in my head.

    Greetings and salutations, all!

I started the Fast 800 on August 1st and have been shocked by how much I genuinely enjoy it. I’d been counting carbs since February and had lost a dress size, but had hit a plateau and wanted to jump-start weight loss. I read The 8-Week BSD in a day, got my ducks in a row and when my bf went out of town for a week, I went for it.

I love to cook and have found having to count and weigh things illuminating rather than tedious, much to my amazement. With the invaluable aid of My Fitness Pal, I have developed a nice little portfolio of go-to recipes that work for me and for the now-returned bf.

My energy levels are high. I work out five days a week with even more vigour and determination now than I did a month ago. Turns out, when you shed weight every week, each routine becomes easier in a million small ways. It seems obvious, I know, but it took me by surprise. I look forward to seeing how much further back I can bend my knees to my chest doing a tuck, for example, or how smoothly I can pull a standing row without my belly getting in the way.

I’ve been reading the forum for the past two days and have found it downright inspiring. I’ve already added one recipe to the database and hope to add a bunch more.

    Positivity abounds. πŸ™‚

Weight 89.5 (up 0.1kg but down 1.6kg so far) paying for weekend weaknesses

Weekends are going to be hard to remain within the 800 calorie and low carb limit. Weekdays have more structure and less temptation so I find them much simpler. Going to be very strict during the week and see how quickly I can reverse some of the damage done (ground given back) over the weekend.

Day seven weigh in tomorrow and I am hoping to be under 89.0kg and at 87.0 by the end of week 2.

    Hi Avila
I’ve replaced key boards on laptops a few times, getting replacements form ebay or amazon & reading customer reviews carefully – they’re quite cheap -under Β£15. With one of my old dells, the replacement looked better than the original.
The first time I did it quotes from local PC repair shops were around the Β£200 mark – enough to make me think more sensible to simply replace the laptop, so was delighted to do it myself for Β£10. You just unscrew the top, pug in the replacement keyboard, put it back together & off you go – lots of “how to” videos on YouTube as well.
I have a Toshiba at the moment – the keyboard seemed to be going a few months ago so I purchased a new one, but the old one seemed to sort itself out, so I have a spare in the waiting.

    Hey NifNif πŸ™‚

I found that my headaches were as a result of lack of fluids. It is vitally important to keep your fluid intake high during your weight loss journey.

Water is your friend, be it still or fizzy (my favourite) and you should try and drink as much of the recommended 8 glasses if you can πŸ™‚

For me fizzy water staves off any hunger I may have, I can easily get through 3 or so litres of water a day and I feel terrible if I dont drink enough fluids.

If you arent a fan of water then try zero calorie drinks; Coke Zero, Pepsi Max etc. Not as good as water, but its a start!

Hope the headaches clear up soon. As a life long migraine sufferer I feel your pain!

Re lunches. My office allows me access to a microwave and a sink to wash my stuff up. I recently bought a Sistems microwave rice steamer and can now cook quinoa in 8 minutes thanks to my new favourite cooking toy!
I also have a fridge at work and bring in quark that I can flavour with anything i like to add to my quinoa.
Salads are an easy office option, buy a bag on the way into work or on the way home for then next day.

Started my journey on Sunday 7th August, weighed myself first thing in the morning (always): 25st 2.0lb/160kg

    Sunday 21st August: 24st 1.75lb/153kg (-4.25lb)

I’m down a fraction over 1 stone/7kg in 2 weeks. Granted water weight will be a factor there, I’m aware I have lost water in my legs, but hopefully there will be fat loss in there too πŸ™‚

    Hi ruthdownunder,
Thank you, I was a child bride, we met when I had just started work, birthday in April, left school on the Friday, had a week off and started work the following Monday, first date July, married when I was 19! in the August, first child the following year on his birthday! Just a couple of months after I was 20!
The trouble with having a big family is, there are always birthdays, wedding anniversaries, exam results, you name it we have to celebrate!
I love this diet, I have adapted some of the meals in the book to suit me more, while not changing the essence of the meal. Do you do the meals from the book, or have you done your own thing?
I have got a few cookery books, well loads but who’s counting! I do try to adapt some of my favourite foods so we can all eat them, my daughter is back living with us for a while until she get on her feet. Even she enjoys some of the food from the book!

Well done on you serving it up for the children tho..i dont have to see sights and smells that might lead me astray as i live alone….for instance someone mentioned family members making toast..what a lovely comforting and tempting smell that is!
Yes from what i read on here,i am sure we have or are getting orthorexia..and i dont think we even mind!
i have an irrational love / hate relationship with what was my addiction- simple carbs and sugar.
No longer my addiction but i guess like a reformed drinker, never that far away from regressing!
What helps is that feeling Jan talked about of just somehow feeling such foods are no longer an option..which is great, i find it helpful that i feel like that..but until i can feel totally indifferent to carbs around me, i am still a little under their influence! X

Hi Captainlynne – yes I was also accepting food because I didn’t want to ‘offend’ people. But you are right – once they accept that you are not going to eat the cake or biscuits they seem to be ok about it, and it is much easier for them. I don’t really like rice or potatoes but my OH does. He has taken over as the ‘cook’ of the household and he would always make too much rice or too many potatoes and would ask me if I would like them – rather than throw them away. I would always say yes – so they wouldn’t be wasted. How mad is that. Since I began to refuse them he either doesn’t do so many, or he does spiralised courgettes or white cabbage stir fried in a little butter for both of us. Much better for him and for me. He is beginning to change his diet also and cutting down on the carbs. We both want to stay healthy.

  • I agree Izzy – I try and keep carbs low if I can as I am on maintenance

Over the weekend we have been away.

So – breakfast has been 3 cups unsugared White Americano coffee (no use worrying about full fat milk, just take what I get)
plus scrambled egg and smoked salmon. I don’t eat meat – OH had bacon instead.

Lunch has been M&S picnic on 2 days – feta cheese and tomato Greek salad

Another day it was a cafe salad – we didn’t have potato salad or the rice part, but the rest was lovely – OH had ham and I had smoked salmon (again!)

Two evenings out – one I had fresh fried whitebait with a salad, and the other seared salmon with NiΓ§oise salad (didn’t eat the potatoes). OH had steak + veg

All very easily achievable and it added to about 1500 calories per day with carbs well under 50.

Given I also did a lot of walking about and my base metabolism needs about 1500 calories, I am very happy with that.

Tonight I made my own egg curry and the total calories was 535 calories (coconut milk pushed it) and 19 carbs so daily total still under 50 carbs though calories just above 1500.

I find MyFitnessPal a godsend and now have some go-to recipe bases which seem to be really adaptable.

    Mmmm that curry! yum

A friend has the book of recipes and I’m going to go through and check out what looks good to me. I have to confess I am a terrible vege eater, but am learning to have more and try more. Love my fruit, and have cut right down to 1 apple a day! Didn’t realise how much sugar was in fruit and wonder if partly that was where I was going wrong as well. Water intake increased, so that’s good.

Tonight I have done a roast chicken dinner and the boys (3 of them) all wanted sage and onion stuffing. Ooh you are doing so well, and so close, you inspire me. I’m also 5ft 6in . The lowest I’ve ever been in 1979 was 10st 11 so not sure what I am going to be when I get to target whatever that will be. but I am at week 7 and half and lost 14.26 kilo 31.37 lbs in old money, I am amazed by the power of this eating plan, I really feel like refined carbs and sugars are just not for my consumption, decision not out of needing to diet etc just plain sensible choice. I wouldn’t want to take the chance of eating sugar and junk carbs, and sugar free rubbish etc as I am terrified of the monster appetite being triggered of again. If I lifted the lid on the can of worms I might not get them back in again. I also even eyes swerve any one on hear talking about such things as eating low sugar stuff, and things that are not compliment with the plan.I don’t want any thoughts of that even in my mind, still need to do a lot more mind training for when I do get to target hopefully by my birthday at Christmas. And yep I’m also finding walking much easier, I can doo 10,000 and still got more energy to doo other stuff. My OH said I had turned hyperactive.πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… just amazing. I had a wild time this weekend at Opera House and visiting Philadelphia Philharmonic. Today I am going crazy like the Mad Hatter:

I have 2 mega pots cooking today:

    one is for beef stew

    one is for chicken soup

The chicken soup should be done by now. It was 3 hours. One only needs to cook it for 2 hours, but I like more flavor from the bones. I guess I am bad to the bones:

Thanks sunshine-girl, I’ll have aa go at that; it defo spikes over night.
This week has been plateau week but keeping the faith as I know I haven’t gone off track. Intermittent fasting today; just had my first meal and I’ll have my dinner about 6ish. I didn’t mean to fast exactly but just didn’t feel hungry, so decided not to just eat for the sake of it.

I am not a chicken soup eater now in the hot weather. But, starting next month I going Chicken soup again as a meal!

What I do is a have 2 32 quart pots and cook both on any day. When they are done 3+ hours after, I store them in freezer for when I need it! I have 2 weeks of soup ready for use.

So, maybe you should do the same! Pre plan all your meals for a week! You have no worries on whats for dinner!

So, Annie What’s for dinner? Inviting Daddy Warbucks? πŸ˜‰

The morning spikes can be cured by having a bedtime snack. I go for a bit of ham or some tuna on a ryvita (not sure if thats allowed but it is less than 2gm carb). Or sometimes I save a little of my lunch or dinner to eat. Tells your body your not starving so stops your liver from pumping out glycogen.
