My experience has been fantastic. I completed the eight weeks relatively easily. I think I must have just been in the right mind set.
I lost 35.5 lbs and I was on full medication averaging blood sugars between 14 and 20. I am now meds free and average between 4.6 and 5.9.
I think the biggest motivator for me was to concentrate on the blood sugar results rather than the weight.

I have decided I would now like to lose another 20lbs and get my bloods to average at 3.5 to 4.5.
My only criticism of the book was that it does not really lead you into what you should do next. I found that part a bit vague.

So I have yesterday started the 5:2 diet. I hope this is the right way for me. I would be interested to see if others have done this.

    Hi,

Thank you so much. It’s the best diet I have ever done and although 800 calories seemed daunting it actually was very filling and interesting which made it easy to stick to.

Sandra you have done so well. You would be a poster girl for Dr MM and Dr Taylor with those figures. If you read the forums there are many who have just kept on with the BSD – some over 32 weeks – I do not think you would need that long. But I am sure the 5.2 would be fine also

    Many many congratulations

    Hi Sandra

    Great results so far ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ’

I’m one of those who stayed on 800 calories for longer than the 8 weeks because I had more weight to lose. Just finished week 35 with loss to date of 86 pounds (another 5 pounds still to lose).

I was not on diabetes meds (but they were being threatened) and my fasting level the day I started was 10.9, the HbA1c was 9.6. Now my bloods are consistently ‘normal’ I test randomly but the readings are around 3.8 fasting. In April, HbA1c was 5.5, in July it was 5.2.

I’ve thought a great deal about what I will do when I reach my target weight, trying to decide between 5:2 and Mediterranean style eating. After a few holidays, where I learned that I could cope with eating low-carb and watching portion sizes when away from home, I’ve decided that the way forward for me will be to do just that when I reach my target. Just carry on doing what I’m doing now, but gradually increasing the low-carb foods until I reach the point where I’m neither losing or gaining weight. And I’ll continue to record everything as I’m doing now. I do weigh daily, as that means I know exactly what’s going on. If I weighed weekly it could be the start of a very slippery slope – and one I don’t even want to think about.

I have to agree that the food is interesting. I am just beginning but eating things that taste good helps a lot. Good luck with the rest of your journey!

Thank you everyone for being so kind and giving great advice.
I have decided to stick with the 800 diet and I’m now at the end of week nine.

Captain Lynne, your results are great. You have given me great motivation to carry on. When I was doing the first eight weeks I monitored my blood sugars daily but now I am just going to do it a couple of times a week. I agree with you on weighing daily, some days when I may be tempted to cheat weighing myself stops that.

I would say to anyone who is unsure please try the 800 diet, not only do you feel great about the fast weight loss, the blood sugar results are fantastic, something that would never have been achieved with medication..

When I asked my doctor for advice on this diet I was told categorically not to be so stupid. I’m glad I decided to listen to my own voice in my head.

I was prompted by a pre diabetic scare and have yet to go back to my GP (due in September) – just finished the 8 weeks today and have lost 33lbs (15kgs) and I am delighted with my result and having the self control. I am hoping the specialist diabetic nurse will be delighted with my weight loss so far when I go back with my blood tests.
I have decided to continue to eat sensibly my wife and I invested in a Kenwood electric spiralizer and discovered things like courgette spaghetti and have thoroughly enjoyed other things like celeriac, butternut squash, swedes and other vegetables we just wouldn’t previously have thought of cooking or even having in the house.
By substituting these for the potatoes and pasta we would previously have eaten and eaten far more fish and chicken we have both enjoyed the last 8 weeks.
We have used the suggested treats like the red wine and dark chocolate and I have only had 2 meals on weekends which has been harder to do but we think we have changed our eating habits for good. It did take longer for us to cook meals to start with because everything is new but we are looking to devise healthy versions of the meals we would previously have cooked and if we can make them as interesting and as enjoyable as they were previously we will include them in our future meal planning.
My belts have moved up 2 notches so far so the weight has gone from the right places – I am putting off buying new trousers until my waistline has stopped shrinking – my face has gone thinner and my watch strap has gone loose – I don’t want to look skeletal.
I’m now aiming to get back to my rugby playing fighting weight of 14 stone 10lbs of 30 years ago which means I am looking to lose another 23lbs – I have set myself a target of the end of the year.
I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in pulling together the Blood Sugar Diet – it has worked for me and has been relatively easy and straightforward and given outstanding results.

Just finished 8weeks, I lost with a loss of 56lbs. My target was 59lbs so I am going to continue with 800 diet. Just read an article giving out dieting advice that said how dangerous low carb diets were, little do they know.
I say I have lost 56lbs, I forgot to mention I have also lost several ยฃ’s having to buy new clothes, but a price worth paying.

Just wanted to say finished my first 8 week rotation inches down, 33 lbs down, all bloods now normal, and it has been partly to your excellent example. When I feel challenged I think of your amazing journey, and it is one of the many things that has helped me enormously, wishing you all wonderful things for the remainder of your journey.
    Thankyou ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi Rugby2462, great results and it is good that you and your wife are doing the diet together, I always think it must be harder when it’s not just you to worry about. I have just bought a gadget as well to make courgette spaghetti. I didn’t have any treats to start with as I didn’t trust myself!
But at week ten Im going to have an occational glass of wine or one of the scones from the receipes – keeping within the calories still.

I had had diabetes for 7 years getting progressively worse and after the note of caution in the books about longtime diabetes I was not expecting miracles so when after only a couple of weeks my blood sugars had gone down I was delighted.

Your results so far are terrific.
I understand what you mean about the money for new clothes, but what a great reason to have to buy them. Your comment has actually got me looking at clothes that will fit me in a few weeks.

The article on low carbs being dangerous is the stance my doctor has as well, I find it really strange that reversing diabetes would save the NHS a fortune and they do nothing to encourage a dieting approach. Maybe with more success they may change their minds.
