Hee hee, tell it like it is πŸ™‚

I do have a lot of sympathy for GPs, I’m in the medical profession myself, they are under tremendous time pressures and they have very high stress levels. But that kind of attitude towards someone who is taking responsibility for their own health (rather than wanting a magic pill which doesn’t exist) is unacceptable.

Keep going Debs. I lost 8lb in the first week and then 2lb/week in weeks 2 and 3. It’s not unusual.

Agree about eating more fats – I know how hard it is when we have been so brain-washed over the years but tehy are really beneficial and you’ll feel much more full. Also don’t forget lots of water.

Not being one to give up on things and remembering that I was showing ketosis the last time I had a dodgy sugar reading, I decided todo a test this morning.
A bit overkill but I used 3 strips to try to get some sort of result and they are definitely dodgy. one of them had the coloured part peel off as soon as it was wet but the other 2 showed a colour change but just in a thin strip in the centre. I may have ketosis going on, not too sure.
I’m going to have to try and see if the local chemists have them, I’m not buying them online again.

Thanks Bill1954, great article! I was a clinical research nurse for 5 years, not in the Pharmaceutical industry, but in the NHS; so I know all too well how powerful the big pharma companies are.
What I liked about the BSD book is MMs reference to not just one or two clinical trials, but the evidence base as a whole.

    Dear Christi1948,

I tried the ketosticks twice and never got past the 1st base readying, so much so I thought I mustn’t have got enough on the stick and ended up peeing on my hand! Sorry if too much info! We went out for a meal yesterday for my parents anniversary and had 10oz gammon steak with salad instead of chips, got home and found out the calories for the gammon were 420! Shock horror but ketostick this morning was the next colour up, how come? Maybe we haven’t been getting enough fat in our diet but chuffed with today’s result and another pound down.

We are out tonight for our wedding anniversary so need to carefully consider food choices and see what happens. Good luck and don’t get disheartened.

Same goes for you Lucia, I had a similar week last week and couldn’t understand why but woke up this morning and the black depressing fog I was carrying around a bit like the cloud above the car in the whacky races had lifted. Think back to where you were a month ago and where you are now, you sound like a different person that so many people rely on, so if you need to lean on all of us on the forum we are all here to support you and one another.

Mmmm, well, I would check what you have been eating for the last couple of days. Enough fat? No little bits of anything sweet creeping in? Pale pink does mean you are fat burning, checking should help you adjust your diet a bit. Did you check first thing or later in the day? I find first thing I get a deeper pink result.
At least you know some fat is being burned πŸ™‚

Hi mummytummy, it’s great to have you on board as a more experienced voice.
Your take on things is absolutely they way I regard the situation too, fortunately I have a supportive GP but many haven’t.
Some won’t even pay their patients the coutesy of hearing them out. I’d be voting with my feet.

    Hi hashimoto
Did my first ketostix test last night it was pale pink, so what can I do to make it a deeper pink? I have dumped my last pair of black trousers in the wash, they will be recycled when they are clean ditto my lovely jumper, I only bought that jumper a couple of months ago too! Well before I started this diet anyway. As I am pear shaped still can’t get into some of my summer trousers, not much black or navy in those, will keep on keeping on and by the summer I will be in them, a couple of them I have never worn, naughty!

    Hi eureka
Good to hear you got your size16! That is just a dream for me at the moment, it will come though. I ditched my last pair of black trousers last night and a lovely jumper, my daughter told me they hung on me, it was quite funny to be told that.
I am a pear shape and even though I have lost one and a half stone I still have a pile of trousers I can’t get over my hips, very frustrating, I know I will still lose and eventually get into them, so I’ll keep on keeping on. Good luck to you and your journey too.

I’ve lost 1/2 stone! (since starting, not overnight) I’m sure my thighs are less wobbly and dimpled too. Don’t know if that’s the diet or the extra walking, but it’s good news either way.

No worries. I truly hope this goes through. It still breaks my heart when I think of mum, who was T2 and moved on to injecting, told to eat up her carbs, stuffing down her salads with boiled potatoes, and her Weetabix every morning. Hi. I was reading in the book that meal replacement shakes are permitted in the Fast 800 period and I’m thinking that these may be good for me just for lunches at work. Easier and I can get them as I need them. Does anybody know if any ones are better at filling you up than others ? I’ve tried the Celebrity Slim ones in the past and they are very unsubstantial. Any advice would be great.
    Thanks

    Petition
NHS to encourage the treatment of type 2 diabetes with a low carbohydrate diet.

Professor Taylor has shown that Type 2 diabetes can be reversed using a low carbohydrate, low calorie diet. The NHS has announced it is rolling out a programme to give pre-diabetics lifestyle help. There is no mention of the blood sugar diet which pre-diabetics and diabetics should be following.

    β–ΌMore details

The programme will cost Β£7 million pounds to run. The dietary advice will be the same as that currently being followed. We have a diabetes epidemic so the old advice is not working.
Dr Maureen Baker, of the Royal College of GPs, welcomed the scheme but she warned β€œThe long-term behaviour changes we need to see is hard to inspire”. However, there are forums for the Blood Sugar Diet which offer the support and inspiration needed which will also ease the burden on GP surgeries.

I also read an article on the news this morning about problems with asthma diagnosis. Too many kids diagnosed incorrectly causing people to trivialise a serious disease. If you have seen someone having a life threatening asthma attack you will know what I mean.

You should look up that article Lynne posted yesterday. That was very refreshing to hear.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I will add some beans into my salad for lunch. About 6 years ago I lost 12-14kg which took 8 months. I ate between 1000-1100 calories a day. I was able to keep the weight off until now. I have gained back 5 kg and want to take that off again plus another 5kg. My activity level is high as I train most days. Yes Cherriaine, my clothes are slightly fitting again and measurements starting to change. Maybe I am building muscle which weighs more then fat and therefore not so much weight lose. When I read 8 weeks, 15 kg, I knew it was to good to be true. Will keep you posted and thanks for the encouragement:)

It’s pretty damming when the professionals are starting to speak out like that.
I found the comment from the editor of the Lancet fascinating too.
” possibly half of the published medical literature may simply be untrue and that science had β€œtaken a turn towards darkness”.

Louder voices to add to the campaign to sort the profession out.

Hi April, take some paracetamol while you have headaches in these first few days. Once you are rid of the carb flu you will be absolutely fine!

Are you having hot drinks other than coffee? Try hot water with a slice of lemon or some herbal teas – they are more soothing than just cold water. And I hate to say this, but too much coffee can lead to headaches!!

Hi Debs14 – remember FAT is GOOD. If you are not eating dairy and mostly chicken, fish and veg where is your fat coming from?
If you are dairy intolerant you could add olive oil to your veg and salads, to your soups etc.
Like Cherrianne has said people often find their weight stalls and then begins to fall more rapidly.

    Good luck! πŸ™‚

hi Bill, I’ve printed that article to read at leisure and share around. Thanks. How many pharmacists do you know who take a lot of drugs? Not many, I bet! They understand the interactions between drugs and the body in more detail than the average GP so avoid taking anything unless strictly necessary. I know my son is concerned about the number of meds I am on and pleased I am managing to reduce the massive doses of inhaled steroids I was put on by the consultant. πŸ™‚

Yeah… Bill that sucks…. but it is like I was saying before… the body responds to unseen and sometimes unknown (by us) stimuli – you may be in fact mounting an immune response to something… you don’t feel any different, but your body knows it needs more circulating BS for something… it can jump even if you get a little surprise – like being tooted at…. or you may have had a distressing dream that you don’t remember. Whatever it is I hope it is a one of for you… coz I am hanging my hopes on your success too…hahaha…. good luck and keep up the good fight…

I learned a lesson myself last night… for the first time broke my regime and snuck a piece of liquorice – bored and not sleeping well – others here speak of sleeping very well but I am having difficulty obtaining sleep…. anyway… thought in my befuddled state that my old habit of eating something “naughty” before bed might help…. wow… had racing heart, hot and cold, worst thing I could have done… felt like I had had half a dozen expresso coffees… wow… taught me a lesson though. BTW… fasting BSL is jumping around this week, but because of the posts on here I was expecting same, and rather relieved that it is happening… in week 4 now…
    Cheers
    Sharon
