Helloooooo Janey πŸ™‚ I don’t know what it is, I have this habit of making even the most innocent things sound awful? I have a feeling hubby and I are going to end up on ‘Overheard in Waitrose’ twice this week… he keeps pronouncing Fage as ‘Fadge’ which – around these parts anyway, can be a slang for a woman’s… er… nethers. ‘Here love, shall I grab some more of your Fadge?’ Fage however, is pronounced ‘Fa-yeh’ or something. And perusing the fish, he pointed to kippers, which he had mistaken for the smoked haddock that I like. He said that was the fish he hated. I said ‘Yes I know, it stinks. Although saying that, my smoked haddock stinks. Not a euphemism’. An old man shot me a filthy look and hubby walked off tittering and left me. It’s like being married to John Inman’s Mr Humphreys being married to me.

Back at the ranch… Fage Total is a greek yogurt. I’ve never eaten greek yogurt in my life, and if I had bought it, I’d have gone for the fat free. Oh no. You go for the full fat one. Oh my days. It is lush. And I had a good 100g this morning (a fifth of a pot) for 90 odd calories. Chopped strawberries on top. These fat-free yogurts have as many calories in them. I got mine in Waitrose, my local Morrisons only had the lower fat one. Not sure about Tesco. An ice cream parlour? That’s just cruel. I know the sorts of flavours these places have, things you can never buy in supermarkets. It’s good that your sugary taste buds have gone though πŸ™‚

Love chillies, I don’t know what these little sods are that are growing in my garden though, but they were hot, and I can do hot. Egg curry??? Pray tell? Please??

Ohhh I will have to have a look for that butternut squash, we like that and yes it is too much like hard work. Swede the same, that goes straight into the microwave, I’m afraid! I think for him it is the texture, in that Courgetti goes to nothing in his mouth. I’ve never tried quinoa, is it worth a crack? Next on my list in cauliflower rice. I love cauliflower anyway, so that’s half the battle.

In other news, I managed over 12,000 steps today, was just under 10,000 so I went on the treadmill for half an hour. Feeling very virtuous. Mum is having us all around for Father’s Day lunch, and I had to tell her no potatoes and no pudding. She asked if we would rather not come… ‘Not… not even boiled?? Not even jelly and tinned fruit?’ So we compromised, I will bring mashed cauliflower in place of the potatoes, and some Fage for the strawberries she will buy. This is the first time I haven’t relented and cheated on any eating plan. If this is for the long haul, I’m going to have to start making these choices. It felt good πŸ™‚

Ahem. Well, today I ate a chocolate hobnob snack bar. It wasn’t even all that nice. I paid dearly as less than an hour later it felt like my stomach has been infested with 267 tiny fiery demons all trying to escape at once. Indeed their escape became inevitable when I had no other choice but to run to the toilet. (much apologies for the tmi) On a positive note it set off no cravings and I’ve continued my day as normal. A mere diversion from the straight road as opposed to a momentous falling off the wagon!

The ‘fish fingers’ were a big success (picky daughter ate more than any of us!) So those could well become a regular addition.

Interestingly my calories today even counting the biscuit is 866 and 64g carbs so actually it’s still not too bad. I won’t need anything else tonight.

At the hospital a few more tests, poking and prodding and lots of questions. I’m going to be booked in for a tilt table test, which actually sounds like fun lol. I’ll be hooked up to an ecg and a blood pressure monitor whilst they tip me up and down to see if it affects the readings. He didn’t seem overly worried and I’m booked to go back in 3 months by which time I should have had the tilt table thing.

Sooo that’s all my news. I’m feeling tired again haven’t slept well this past few days. I’d like an early night but I promised hubby I would put the new tv brackets on the wall and the wall units he’s bought for the xboxes etc needs mounting. We both play games although I’ve not done recently- well I was addicted to tomb raider at the beginning of the year lol but finished that. I don’t have time for much. Anyway because we both play we have two tv’s and two xbox one’s, an old 360 which really could be put away, an old ps3 that he uses so these new things will tidy them all up.

I might suggest we just do one set tonight and the other another night. We have role reversal here lol I do all the fixing here!

Have to go put the small one to bed, bye for now!

Welcome back Caro! All I could think of as I read your posts is, “been there done that” Here’s the good news: it doesn’t really matter if you mess up, just start again the very next day. And it doesn’t really matter if you are perfect at staying at 800 calories, if you go over, it probably won’t be by too much and it works anyway! And it doesn’t really matter if you ever get on the scales again, you’re going to SEE the difference really soon. I am pushing 14 weeks and I have fallen into every pitfall there is, but, my clothes are falling off, my stomach is concave for the first time in ten years and I can honestly say this works. Just don’t quit!!!! Bad days of all sorts (physical and mental) happen to all of us — I had a bad day Monday when my dog had surgery — I drank a whole bottle of wine and also ate half a batch of cookies — but it is the next day that matters. Draw a veil over the crummy day and just start again. Good to have you back! P. s. Dog is okπŸ˜„ (and so am I!)

Haha Lucky, I had to stifle an hysterical giggle at my desk earlier when I was illegally reading your message about sizzling prawns at work!! What is this mythical Fage I suddenly keep hearing about?? Another dairy product I can add to my clutch?? My friend’s parents have literally today opened an ice cream parlour…..face palm! I sampled one of the flavours but TBH I’ve lost the taste for the stuff (thank heavens!) so don’t think I will be lured back to the sweet side….
Glad to hear you’re a fellow chilli head. I’ve resurrected an amazing egg curry which can be smugly consumed on this eating plan. And no, it doesn’t make you….
If you or the OH isn’t keen on courgetti try the butternut squash spaghetti instead. You can buy it ready shredded in Waitrose (let’s face it, life is too short and nails are too precious to try and do battle with a squash at home) and it’s a bit more textured than the courgette version. I’m also a convert to bulgur mixed with quinoa (apart from the odd aroma) which can almost be considered rice in low light!!

Have tried all sorts of diets from the ritual humiliation and hard sell upselling tactics of group weight loss. I can never do that again after Little Britain. Dust anyone?!

I’ve fasted, calorie counted, gone ultra low fat in the 80s, green cabbage, slimfast, hypnosis, the list goes on! And the weight came off and went back on. So I know it will come off…it’s keeping it off which will be the thing. I think my focus needs to change from normalising to thinking I have a condition. And if I had asthma I would follow the regime prescribed or recommended for me to manage it.

I am so greedy , I suspect I was a labrador in a previous life. Seriously, even when I am on a healthy eating plan I eat portions which are far too large. I need to follow a regime for life to manage my labradoritis. Here goes.

Just keep going. I had loads of plateuxs on the way which can be disheartening but its just the way the body reacts. I ended up losing over 2 stone over 10 weeks and now have maintained a healthy weight for over 5 weeks.
Stick with it i cant tell you how much its worth it. Can be hard at times when socializing but after a while you end up not stressing about the odd day when you go over what you should. I just eat really well now 90% of the time which then allows me the odd blow out with some alcohol. I have completly lost my addiction to bread spuds pasta. Dont even think about having them anymore apart from the odd crust off daughters toast!

I find that i really need to plan at start of every week for each meal. I know its somewhat boring but it works for me. I make big batches of meals so they can be frozen so there is always something to take to work. Sure beats the kebabs and chinese takeaways.
If i can do it believe me anyone can.

Hi Ms Bloody Minded, I too have loads to lose, I need to lose half my body weight. Probably over half if I checked properly. Day 4 and I’ve lost 10lbs already. And I’ve lost at least an inch from every measurement I’ve taken (apart from my left calf). Stick at it, it’s worth it! Apart from leading up to lunch and tea, I’m not feeling hungry, I’m not snacking between meals. I’m even waking up and not wanting my breakfast for a couple of hours. Really enjoying what I’m eating too, don’t feel deprived at all, and believe me, I could probably clear over 3000 calories some days, if not more. You’ll have great support here πŸ™‚ All the best.

Hello and well done on getting started. I’m 3 days in to my 5th week and really seeing a difference already. I too am seriously overweight, need to increase my exercise but struggling with that so concentrating on the diet and just trying to move more every day. My first couple of weeks I wasn’t really following the diet properly as I hadn’t read the book but still lost 11lbs by the end of week 2, loss did slow a little after that and after 4 weeks have lost 14lbs but have definitely lost inches.
I’ve managed to lose this amount before on other diets but the physical change has never been so noticeable, my clothes are hanging better and I feel much trimmer – even if this is psychological it’s a great boost.
It took me a couple of weeks to get the message about including full fat dairy in my diet – this makes such a difference and feels like such a treat – strawberries & thick cream who’d have guessed you could eat that on a diet!
    Good luck

    Hi PhilippaSmart,

    9lbs is a great start!

For me it was week 3/4/5 ( nearly 3 weeks) that my weight loss stalled…just dug deep and kept on with the BSD, made sure I was eating enough fat, drinking enough water, and I increased the exercise a little..for me keeping the carbs (30g) low helped start the weight loss again. I have just finished first eight weeks and lost 31lbs…so it is worth sticking at it.

It’s early days and your body is still adjusting…you will lose.

I think the best thing about the BSD is that it is very flexible. If one way doesn’t work, you can tweak it to something that suits you better. Once you are on the path that suits you, I’m sure you will see the results you want! Take care, & good luck.

    Hi everyone πŸ™‚

I had a brilliant first week with a loss of 9 lbs then in the second week lost nothing at all! I’m used to losing up to 9lbs in the first week as I normally have a binge before starting and so much of it is fluid, so that’s maybe why I don’t sound excited!

I have about a stone to lose and already I’m starting to weaken as I’m disappointed that I’ve tried so hard with no loss in week 2 – it’s disheartening. I started week 3 yesterday and I’d be really grateful if any of you could tell me if you’ve had the same problem and what you did to resolve it?

Thank you so much in advance πŸ™‚ x

    Hello Sarahs999.

Like you, I’ve just started. Well, I started, fell off, restarted, fell off, restarted, fell off. I’m 71 and don’t want this familiar dieting pattern to dog me for the rest of my life. So, no more doing this silently. I’m out of the dieting closet and sharing my food journey.

Today is my DAY 1: This morning 66.9kg ; FBG 6.1. I ‘m not diabetic and determined not to become so. I don’t think I could face my Diabetes Type 1 son if I allowed my self indulgence to develop into Type 2.

    B. Apple, cinnamon and FF Greek Yoghurt (Jalna)
    L. Left over Baked Beans on Corn Thin, topped by grated cheese, toasted on the sandwich maker. Coffee with skim milk, lactose free
Snack. 1 cheese (Bega Stringers – kept in fridge for grandson)
    D. Rice, quinoa, sauce with Thai flavours, Tuna in springwater.

Drinks during the day are green tea or herbal tea, current favourite is Lemon & Ginger, or water.

Heavens, I’ve just seen that it totalled 512 calories! Carbs 53.6. I’m not so hungry that I’ll have to eat before bed and that will make a change to will have to be aware. I will eat more tomorrow, it wouldn’t be a good thing to eat that few calories too often.

Today was also notable for the fact that I sat down at one of my usual coffee shops in the local centre and ordered ONLY GREEN TEA. Usually I have that plus cake, followed by icecream or chocolate in the car on the way home.

Good luck to us all xx

    Hi Orchid.
Thanks for your comments. In my first five days it was a great success. I could see the weight coming of my stomach and backside. I just felt lighter. The one downside was I struggled very badly with fatigue in the afternoon which i never do. So bad in fact that when i put my son to bed for his nap around midday ish i was dashing to the couch myself for a sleep. The tiredness was overwhelming – I couldn’t stay awake if i had wanted to. This was completely foreign to me as i have never been able to nap during the day. So after my night 5 dinner fiasco I found myself reaching for carbs to stay awake to get some jobs done while my son slept. Quick fix carbs. Have you had any of this sort of fatigue? Books finally arrived late today. Had a good dinner of salmon and salad. Need to peruse the recipe ideas. That is half the battle i think. Knowing what to cook and being prepared. How far into this lifestyle are you?

Well I found the first 2 weeks hard but I started to see when I ate and that was aching tv, studying, or just for something to do. I then changed my thinking and said every time I wanted to eat something outside the recommended foods – no that will put my sugar up and threaten my health. No the food is not worth the health risk. This made it easier and now I think twice about my choices. I have gone on this diet because I do not want to be diabetic.

Now 10 weeks later it is easy. I refuse to weight anything, I just eat much smaller because I weight and checked in first 2 weeks and not after that. I had to make it real and I don’t weight my food normally, just much smaller.

All the best with bsd, it really does work. Thanks dr Michael, I am so greatful you where in Australia around the time my BGL was 24.4mmol in March this year.

I currently work nights after working day job and find it hard to keep to 3 meals especially when does my day start. I made up curry vege soup for about 3am as well as taking an optifast sachet to work. I found drinking water has helped greatly. Occasionally work will provide a salad consisting of ham, olives, feta, lettuce, spinach and olive oil. I will have breakfast and go to bed – good sleep plays an important part in loosing weight also. I have now lost 17kg in 10 weeks and have 13 to go.

I have found that I don’t get that horrible bloating anymore. I don’t crave food now and I make sure I have a choice because sometimes at 3am I didn’t want my soup I had my optifast chocolate desert.

Oh! I also took leave to get me started this helped me focus on my health.

I started on Monday, after stumbling upon the BSD book almost by accident. It seems too good to be true. I am so seriously overweight and at risk of major adverse health diagnoses that I have to do this. Day 3 and other than thinking about food every single waking moment it hasn’t been too bad. I suspect I am probably more 1000 than 800 at the moment, but who cares? This is a huge improvement for me! I am allowing myself this week to do the best that I can, to gradually start moving and then I will build in serious exercise next week. Who would have thought that I could sustain something like this for 3 days? Only 53 more to go – and then we will re-calibrate. Can’t wait to meet the new me.

I’m a big eater in the evenings though, so that’s what’s putting me off at the moment, I try and save as many calories as I can for a decent tea, as evenings were my danger time. I love courgetti but hubby isn’t too convinced. Well, that sounds like a result anyway, beans v avocado? No brainer πŸ™‚ I’m having BLAT salad (Bacon lettuce avocado and tomato) for lunch tomorrow, with some full fat mayo, looking forward to it too. Morrisons had massive bags of avocadoes for under Β£2, I nearly cried when I saw them. I only usually have that kind of reaction to shortcrust pastry and Reeses Peanut butter cups. I tried but it was not well suited to my kindle so now I use FatSecret uk. Basic, easy to use (which works well for me). It allows you to record your daily foods, gives totals for carbs, proteins, fats etc. You can also track your exercise activities and weight. There is an online community supporting lots of different groups if that is of interest. Hi all,
Just completed my first month on Sunday, my starting weight was 14 stone 11, as of this morning my weight is 13 stone 7 pounds! My target weight is 12 stone 7 pounds, so I’m halfway there.
My BS is now in the range of 5.5 – 6.8 day and night, my blood pressure has gone down from mid 170’s to 120s, so I’ve stopped all the BP meds.
I’ve cut down the insulin by 2 thirds, my specialist said that I might not be able to completely cut it out as I’ve had T2 for too long, and my pancreas might have stopped working, but I feel that it must be working now, otherwise I would not have been able to cut down on the insulin by so much
The only other meds I was told to continue regardless are metformin and sitagliptin.
My only problem is exercise, apart from not having any energy, is that I’m unable to use the cross trainer I bought several months ago for very long as I have a problem with the pain from lactic acid in my thighs, any ideas how to overcome this would be welcome.

    Hello all,

Just wanted to say hi. I always find forums like this very supportive and a good way to stop myself falling off the wagon! I’m 45, work from home around childcare (writing and baking) and have put on an insane amount of weight in the past three years (about 6 stone). Impressive, huh?! It’s all emotional baggage tied in with things I’ve been dealing with, and deeply infuriating as I thought I’d got it all under control (got to goal weight on Alevere plan about six years ago and kept it off for three years). I even kept slim during my pregnancy! Coming out the other side of bereavements, house move, renovation and parental illness now, and feeling like I can do this. Husband is doing it with me; my biggest challenges are my work (baking cakes and not licking my fingers), trying to cook for a growing family without sneaking carbs, and my neighbour, who is wonderful but loves to pop round with a bottle of prosecco!

I should be writing so I’ll go now. Looking forward to meeting you all.

    Hi Sarah πŸ™‚
The wraps were here on page 16 of the recipes https://thebloodsugardiet.com/recipes/chickpea-flour-pancakes/
They are a fab alternative, we had them with our tea last night, and we’re having them with Chicken Shawarma tonight, and to dip in a curry on Friday. Don’t put anything too sloppy in them though (or wear a bib) (or a tea towel, like I have to do most meals). If I lost 6 stone, I’d be the weight I was when I met hubby in 1999. Still overweight according to the NHS and BMI and all that, but I’d kill to be back there. The confidence I had. I’m going to do it this time. Good luck to you, let me know if you like the wraps. My local Morrisons had a massive bag of Besan on offer for Β£1.49 in the ethnic aisle yesterday.

In other news, my tongue has swollen to twice its normal size and I can’t feel my lips because I didn’t deseed the chillies I picked from the garden to sizzle my prawns in. They were only tiny! Deceptive little swines. Grrrr.

Morning Janey, lovely to meet you! Aren’t they just? Hubby makes me laugh because he’s from Lancashire and when he says they’re the future, he reminds me of Peter Kay and the garlic bread. Fajitas! I love fajitas, I forgot about those, I think I’m going to stick those on the list for next week. Up to 8 am this morning, I’ve meal planned about three months ahead, just to be on the safe side. Curry is my favourite too, I’m the curry queen amongst my friends, I’ve been working for years to perfect Indian restaurant/takeaway style curries, without the copious amounts of oil though. Now at the next one I can have chickpea wraps instead of naan. Maybe everyone will have chickpea wraps because I can make about 5000 out of a Β£1.49 bag of flour – always thinking…

Well done on reaching week six and your journey downwards in belt notches and dress sizes πŸ™‚ I’m a bit obsessive about my scales, so when I read on the last two plans I’ve followed now that daily weighing was encouraged, the skies parted, sun rays beamed down on me and a choir of heavenly angels sang ‘Hallelujah’. As if I needed any more encouragement.

In other news, I have just come back from a long walk. 2.4 miles if my fit app thing is to be believed. 8659 steps, so it looks like I’ll get my 10,000 steps today for the first time since April #shameface. We had a lovely walk around all the local beauty spots and woods, pier, promenade and churchyard, took some photos then ambled through the woods until we reached Waitrose where I picked up another tub of Fage (this stuff is going to become my crystal meth, mark my words) and some Heck 97% sausages which I’ve heard people mention. On offer for Β£2. Bargain. My knee is hurting, my hip is hurting, my back is hurting, darn you sciatica, but the exercise and the weightloss will all help that part in the end. Off to sizzle my prawns. Not a euphemism. Onwards! πŸ™‚

I started this diet on Friday of last week and am using the recipes, but I want to do different food, can anyone tell me of a good side which will give me a breakdown of calories and sugar content?

Keep going and thank you for the questions you have put on the forums they are helping!

Yeo natural yoghurt, handful of blueberries and seeds, is really good and quick – I have this before going to work at 6.30 so it definitely is quick and easy!

Hope it goes well, I am on my fourth day so best of luck!

Re: the peeing, it’s my understanding that it is both factors. If you are drinking 2 or 3 litres of water, most of it has to come out at some point! But also carbohydrates make you retain water. I can count on losing a kg overnight any time I go from eating carbs to not. So at the start of the diet, at least, you’ll pee extra as you get rid of that retained water.

    Hey,

I started on Monday as well, like you, I have a long gap between getting to work and lunch time, so i have had to force myself out of bed 15 mins earlier to sort breakfast.
If you follow the recipes form the book, you will find that a lot of it can be done the night before, so i just finish it off, eat it and im ready to go.

I have also dived in head first as i think thats the only way i am going to do it.

    good luck

    Hi all

I am a newcomer this diet, which I have decided to undertake to lead a healthier lifestyle, and to help my husband who is boarderline diabetic.

Can you all give me some ideas what we can have for a quick breakfast, as my staples used to be toast or cereal …

    Thanks πŸ™‚

    So,
I’m onto day 3, not feeling too bad, have had the feeling that a headache is coming, but it hasn’t yet really hit. i feel a bit stiff and achey though.
Been enjoying the food so far, and haven’t felt enormously hungry as yet, still fancy some crisps and a beer, but i’m managing to resist so far.

I’m not measuring myself until Sunday, and i’m hoping i will have lost a bit.

Out of interest, when people say they pee all the time. how much/often?
I am going, but is that down to drinking 3 litres of water, or the diet itself?

    thanks

    Hi Gilliancrantock
Many ,many congratulations on your weight loss and blood glucose levels.
Fantastic results all round for you.
Hope you can drop the Metformin too but the feeling better and being much healthier is the main goal isn’t it???
    It is for me anyway.
I’m having a blood test on Friday so my results will hopefully be as positive as yours.
I have lost 40 lbs or 18 kilos since the start of February and have much more energy and zip!!
Only 6 more lbs and I will just be a healthy weight.
