Well done on taking your first step to a new you. It’s a good idea to stock up of the foods you will need, otherwise the temptation to resort to the naughty stuff might prove irresistible.
Good luck and be sure to let us know how you progress.

Maybe I’ve missed something in the book. Should I be counting total carbs or net carbs?
Thanks -
Week 3. 10.5lbs gone. That includes my 1lb put on as a result of my holiday now lost again.
1 inch off from waist, hips and each thigh.
I am really pleased with my overall weight loss and the fact that BSD is so flexible. However, I have struggled this week sticking to it. I don’t really know why. I am going away again (lucky thing) on Monday but it is self catering with extended family so should be easier to stick to low carb although I will not stick to 800 cals.
Veranso, well done on your will power at the indian restaurant. Very admirable.
China2013, what a fantastic weight loss! Is there something else you can drink that will make it feel special, to replace the wine. I make up a diet tonic water with ice and a slice. It feels like a gina and tonic even though it is not. I think it really helps. I think it stops me wanting the real thing.
Good luck everyone with the forthcoming week. Heres to more weight gone forever. -

Decided to start today and do more shopping later ( heat permitting )
Breakfast: Looked at recipes on here and chose the Avocado / baked egg one even though my fitness app was telling me the calorie count was much more. I entered the barcodes from the packets of the foods and decided to have half the amount per person, so, half the advocado and 1 egg. Actually delicious!!
I followed the recipe and used just the yoke in the centre of the advocado and made a small saucer size omelette from the white part so plate looked amazingly full.
2 glasses of water and meds….so far so good -
Hi I started the diet yesterday but wondered this morning whether it was okay to have plain Greek yoghurt instead of ordinary plain yoghurt. I thought it would be okay but I’ve just looked and it says 100g contains 5.4g of sugars which as it is plain with nothing added I was quite shocked at.

Well, last night went like this. After posting my last message, I was ‘gearing myself up to go on the treadmill’. What happened is this. At about 7.30 pm, I fell asleep in my chair. I missed; a) the darts b) my family leaving the house to pick up daughter on return from Alton Towers c) my daughter arriving home – and she’s loud! Hubby finally woke me at 11 pm, I felt drunk and stupid, like you do when you’ve fallen asleep in the day. I don’t remember going up to bed, but according to my fit app I was awake for a total of 4 minutes from waking on my chair and before falling back into a deeeeeep sleep in bed until the alarm this morning! I must have really needed the sleep or something! So I am wearing one slipper of despair (for not managing more than 5509 steps yesterday) but I also have the cape of smugness over one shoulder, because this morning, the scales show 100.1 kg. So close to my next mini goal! Into double digits 😀
Janey, sounds like an eventful evening. Frog torture and a live XXX show, even if it was just pigeons having a menage a trois… Every one is eating salmon, and I love salmon, and him indoors doesn’t. But I do all the cooking so… I think it’s salmon for tea 🙂
Tokyo… OMG! Yes, I can see why you couldn’t post that!! The mind boggles at some people. *retch* hahahaha. I think that story wins 😉 I didn’t realise you could send long messages via Twitter, when did that change??
Hi Jilly B – I’m 6 weeks in but I will definitely have to do a fair few more though until I get anywhere near where I want to be. Yes, it’s definitely an eating plan and not a diet. I haven’t eaten out yet on this, haven’t felt quite brave enough yet, plus I’m one of these that wants a bit of bang for my buck lol. If my burger and chips costs £10 and I end up with only a plain burger and side salad on my plate that I can eat, still costing £10 then it’s a no-go for me, I’m too tightfisted lol. If it’s a special occasion though, that’s different, and I’ll have to put a bit of thought into it. But it’s definitely stopped the ‘shall we go out for lunch today, darling?’ mentality. Which always, always involved chips! Can’t even fall back on the jacket potato any more 🙂
Good luck with your restart, Treanna, I have to say this 6 weeks has flown by for me. Hasn’t seemed as much of a chore as any other eating plan.
Beautiful sun-shiney day here folks! I’m glowing like a neon tomato. I was in too much (sunburned) pain to even put a bra on this morning! See how many steps I can get in today, aiming for 8000 again Eps. Must try harder, eh? 😉

on 19 Jul 2016 at 08:38 in Welcome to the BSDDecided to have a go at making the advocado baked egg for breakfast today – in Recipes on here
Calories stated as around 200
On checking in MFP I am making it more like 300+ per serving..depending on which calorie value you choose for the advocado
So, my question is, ( obv my decision, ) I can use half the amount for a portion, so half an avocado, 1 egg etc BUT am feeling a little despondent at finding this out at the beginning of starting out…grrrAny ideas>

Hi All, just wanted to ask advice / opinion …
I started the BSD two weeks ago – I have lost 4kg and feeling real good – surprised I’m enjoying the food and finding it easy to stay motivated… probably being put on Crestor for highish cholesterol is the reason! 🙂 5.9 was my cholesterol reading…
What I wanted to ask is that in just two weeks, my readings have been very constant – from being 6.0 to 7.7 in the morning to 8.3 after a meal… I now am always between 4.8 & 5.3 in morning and around 5.5 & 6.0 two hours after meals (only once peaking at 6.8)
However – I am still on my meds (metformtin) as my doc wasn’t convinced and wants to see weight loss and stable readings before even thinking about changing things…. and for months not weeks!
I will be seeing him again at the 4 week mark – if I have lost a good amount of weight and can show a stable reading log (which I am keeping of each reading and meal) – should I be firm and demand I go off meds or at least get the mg lowered?
Thanks – hoping to keep it going – I hate losing!!! -

Hi gang,
I will tell you how I felt about exercise when I started.
So I started cutting down my food and changing what I ate in my pre-diet week.
I thought right, I will jog, run, gym, do weights, skip, go to yoga each day, yes all of it.The actual effort to get just my brain to work. To send the signal to get off the settee. For the message to get to the rest of my body. Just that effort was huge.
To actually waddle to the end of the garden was such an effort.
When I got back, I sat on the settee and sweated, red and puffing like a steam train. So, ok I will ease into the exercise.
Just moving my size 22 to the end of the garden and back , that effort, that strain, was incredible.
So, no matter what you do, do it.
As the tv commercial says…. Every little helps ?😀🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻😉😉🚶🏻When pegging washing out.
Don’t take it all in the laundry basket.
Instead , get s few articles out, walk outside, peg, walk back, bend to the washing machine and repeat.
This is still exercise. A good exercise.
You don’t have to pay and go the gym, get expensive clothes to exercise.
The only expense, if you don’t mind me suggesting it , is, a good pair of trainers shoes.
Protect your feet, get good grip, they won’t fall off your feet. It’s taken months and months.
Now I feel fit enough to get through 30 mins in the gym.
I couldn’t have done it at the beginning.
I would have needed to sit in reception, then sit in the changing room, sit in the gym. Do nothing other than sweat and waddle back out. What have I learned?
Know your limitations.
But with perseverance , you can chip away at it, one pound of blubber at a time, and reveal a masterpiece.I am still chipping, still in my plateau, but … Hey, I am only human.
So gang, keep put of the sun, put sun block on, drink gallons of water. Keep your vest tucked in at all times, and most of all…. Keep smiling.
Love Lucia

Good Morning BSD-ers Hope you are all well.
It is weigh and measure day, sadly I’ve gone up 1/2 lb since the weekend however I’m still 1.5 down since last week so I’ll take it lol. Also my boobs have gone up 1/2 inch and everything else down 1/2 inch so those pesky hormones could be doing their thing. Anyway still edging nearer to my next goal.
I did have chickpea pasta twice over the weekend as well… I will try it again with almond flour and maybe only allow it once a week if it’s good. chickpea flour pasta maybe I’ll keep until I’m where I want to be.
I ran out of yoghurt so had none in my morning shake, added 1/4 of a frozen banana in with it as it adds creaminess too. yummy
Lunch will be soup, dinner will be something eggy.
I went to bed early last night I was watching youtube tutorials but was falling asleep by 2150 so I switched it off, think need a few nights of doing that.
I ordered a pack of wooden coasters for painting last week and they have arrived 🙂 a pack of 30, so between those, and the other things I have in mind I’ll have plenty to amuse myself 🙂 Looking forward to a months time when my son will be at pre-school on Friday mornings and I can spend that time crafting 🙂
Work is beckoning once again so bye for now.

Hi LaCali21! Good morning from sunny West Wales! You are right, it does take courage to make a decision to change your lifestyle and stick to it through thick and thin. Lucia,
I forget where you’re based, but here in the UK we’re having a bit of warmth at last, and being a few stones lighter really helps me cope – I normally am not a fan of warm weather as it seems so energy-sapping.
It’s supposed to be well over 30 today (in the 90s in old money) and I might even enjoy it 🙂
Now that’s a change

Day two.
Thankyou Switzerland.
It has been a hard road over the last three months. i have special needs kids and one tried to hang herself and then we found out my son was being “groomed” at the sheltered workshop he is at and was sexually assaulted. We are in the process of sorting it out with the police so food has been a comfort for me. But have made it about me at the moment. Trying not to let myself get back to the old me. I have health problems and losing more weight will be fantastic for me. Thankyou for responding. <3 -

on 19 Jul 2016 at 04:04 in Fast 800Hi Figment – it was lovely to read your posts above as we are starting from roughly the same weight (I have been hovering just under 100kg for most of the last couple of years and dreading that move to treble figures) and I started the BSD 800 yesterday. I am technically pre-diabetic but my partner was diagnosed with Type II a year ago. He is a big lad but I’m not going to put his weight on here because he’d be embarrassed … I am using the myfitnesspal app too and I have found a lot of the recipes from the book are in there already from other users. If you add ‘blood sugar diet’ or ‘BSD’ to the food description when searching you will possibly find them. They’re not all there (I was a bit miffed at not finding veg curry and cauliflower rice and thus having to enter them by ingredients which was tttteeeddddiiiioooouuuussss) but many of them are, which helps make the app easier to use.
Well done for your efforts so far and big kudos for hitting the gym! You’re an inspiration. 🙂

It is so good to see so many newcomers since I started , about 16 weeks ago. I have officialy finished my 8 weeks but found it much easier to just keep going as I still had fat rolls to vanquish ! I have bravely ventured out to some restaurants and have been surprised to find that I am able to stick to BSD quite well. Goes to show….I used to hone in on all the bad stuff before and didn’t notice all the other food .
Great to see so many people from other countries and chat to them. Although Australian, I am of Irish, Scottish and Manx stock, anyone from The Isle of Man ?
Good luck to all you newbies, it’s really the best diet, or eating plan I prefer to call it, I have ever done….and believe me, there have been so many I have lost count.

Sorry never replied sooner. Had a bit of a melt down since Friday and yes I broke the diet for a couple of days. But not massively . Hubby is still going strong.
I met with the fitness instructor but still awaiting a program . Although I have been 2 times to the gym over last few days. That’s something I never thought I would do.
But for tonight I am hurting so will write more about my missing days tomorrow
Until then

on 18 Jul 2016 at 23:47 in BSD Med Style Low CarbHi 1960smp,
There’s a lot of good information on this website (Get Started and Recipes) that helps you get your head around the low carbohydrate med style of eating. If you follow the tips in the Get Started section, you’ll find that calories and carbs are automatically reduced.
There’s a huge range in the grams of carbs people can tolerate and also what motivates people to follow the BSD (eg to reverse Type 2 diabetes, reverse insulin resistance, to lose weight, to lead a healthier lifestyle).
In the BSD book, the only macronutrient MM quotes grams for is protein, and I remember it’s 45 grams/day for women (because it applies to me).
Read the forums, read the book and all of the information on this website and even throw in a bit of your own research by exploring what else is around about low carb med style eating.
Best wishes. -
Hi Janet. I’m going to London mid-August to get new uniform. They’ll pin the jacket and skirt to fit, alsp pin the hem. After making the alterations they’ll post it up to me. Will also need more blouses and possibly a weatherproof jacket (but that can wait, just need to know the size).
How are you?

on 18 Jul 2016 at 23:26 in Starting the BSDWelcome to the BSD and the forums quinnt. This way of life really does work.
The first 1-2 weeks are the hardest and if you can manage it (you know, the social stuff) it’s much easier on you not to switch back and forth between eating styles.
Can I suggest that you look for the thread ‘this has to work for me’. Bill1954 started the thread and (as well as many others) he is a true inspiration. Recently Bill posted ‘before and after’ photos of himself – living proof that this works.
Once you’re settled in to the diet you no longer have to worry about will power because you just don’t have that unrelenting hunger.
Very best wishes to you. -
Hee hee sickening price, yes lucky stripe😝👏🏾👍 Hope you got a few more steps in if you felt up to it👏👏 I am wrecked, walked for ages and freezing swim🦀🐳
Janey dinner sounds delicious. I think stuff like almonds last way longer than they say they do! Though 2012 might be pushing it🙏🏻😝 my dad eats everything well out of date and he is very healthy so maybe it’s all a bit exaggerated. Think use by is the important one and best before is only a recommendation😹

So I have cleaned the Windows,
Washed the gutters,
Where am I getting the energy from?I think it’s wonderful.
I even go to the gym on my own, walk on my own.

on 18 Jul 2016 at 22:06 in Fast 800My friend and i are doing the diet together, and yes her bowel movements have changed to some days of feeling constipated, but our bodies are readjusting to an alternative way of eating, however, if you are failing to pass stools for a few days and are straining badly, have a chat with your doctors practice nurse about it, she may suggest ex lax or senna, something along those lines. I personally have always found a very strong blak coffee can act as a laxative!

Thanks so much for the welcome and tips. 🙂 I really appreciate it. From what I have read, you all seem to be very helpful and there for each other.
Irishgirl that is awesome!! 26lbs in 8 weeks is great.
I think I keep not succeeding because I feel defeated that I have over 100lbs to lose. It seems like such a large amount but I want to do this with diet and exercise, not quick fixes so that’s why I just need to get my butt in gear!!
-
Still sitting out in the garden.. Lovely! Roasted salmon with carrot spaghetti, mange tout and green pesto for me! Think I may have to use up the coconut flour pancake mix in the morning.
Can almonds go out of date? Just found half a pack of ground almond in the cupboard and it seems a travesty to waste it. Only problem is the 2012 sell by date 😳
Cats are in the garden, catching frogs and making them squeak. And there is a triumvirate of randy pigeons getting amorous in the trees and making a dreadful flap.. Quite literally!

Due to my previously crap diet and Metformin, visiting the loo up to 6 times a day with diarrhoea was the norm for me. Now I go once daily or sometimes once every 2 days. Occasionally I get constipation but nothing too bad. Honestly for me this diet has bought so many benefits!!

9.5lbs!!! Now that is fantastic!
You must be so pleased. It’s definitely working and that must be so motivating.I went to the gym this morning and I’m hoping that will give me a good loss this week. Plus I need to ensure that I don’t get complacent with the good loss that I’ve achieved.
Today’s intake:
Breakfast: 1 Poached Egg and Flat Mushroom
Lunch: Salmon with Salad and a ‘dollop’ of coleslaw
Dinner: 150g Caribbean Chicken DrumsticksTotal: 810 calories, 20g carbs
Water: 1.5L
Steps: 13,679
Active Minutes: 62 -
1. OH at home today, so getting to spend some time together
2. Good weather and can get some washing done
3. Got some gardening exercise in over the weekend -
I have been bouncing around within a pound or two of this stone for three weeks now. Need to really apply myself now and get it done.
Tell me about sweet potato toast please, as I’m always on the look out for interesting meal additions.
Tonight is cauli rice, two lamb sausages and leek au gratin. I’m doing well on fluids today – not struggling for once.
Anyway, look forward to hearing your report soon as well, hope week three goes well for you. -
Wow reversing_prediabetes, that’s brilliant!
Thank you Linda – it’s excellent advice and I think I know what you mean about the ‘carb flu’. I am really motivated at the moment, with this forum and supportive colleagues at work, so I feel very lucky and in the right frame of mind.
It helps that this morning I weighed in and I have lost 9.5lbs! I am ecstatic! I have always struggled with my weight and to lose this much in a week – it feels unreal!
My diary for today:
Breakfast: my happy staple of yogurt and blueberries
Lunch: mixed salad, tinned tuna and a mini babybel cheese
afternoon snack: raspberries
Dinner: 2 egg omelette with mushrooms, onion, and halloumiTotal kcal: 816, Carbs 37.5g
Total steps: 11800
6 reps of squats and lungesI didn’t quite manage the 10k steps everyday last week, so that’s my target for this week, along with keeping my carbs under 50g.
I haven’t been measuring my water intake, but I have always been a big water drinker and usually have around 2-3 litres a day – but that’s probably something I should keep track of as well.
Such a great day!

No real toughness involved, maybe a tad more difficult than usual.
Thanks for the advice. Keeps losing.

Thank you SunnyB.
You have to give yourself a raincheck for your weekend . I knew you were away this weekend. The thing about diets like this is that they are fine in the sanctuary of your own home but out in the wild world and food places and takeaways can ambush you.
Hope you get to that stone – how long has it taken to lose this stone, I know you have lost more? I will be waiting to hear of your success.
Week three day one all meals apart from my jelly, fruit and cream later Yum
Have you ever tried sweet potato toast?
