Eggs are amazing and quick to cook and also very filling. Have had chopped up omelette with stir fry veg tonight-you can buy frozen packs of stir fry veg if you don’t have the time to chop everything up yourself. Make a vat of soup and freeze some portions for a quick meal. Tonight I’ve had a few almonds which have killed the hunger pangs. Good luck.

Hi. Have you had a look at the lists of potassium-rich foods online? Not sure how they balance out carb-wise but probably worth a look.
-
hi i am after some advice last year i had early stage ovarian cancer i had a hysterectomy and six months chemo i have recovered well and back to normal back to work all be it with over two stone extra weight !!!!
so have been looking at this diet and fancy giving it a go any advice would be greatly recieved many thanks x -
12 stone 2 pounds, loss of 1st 8lbs in 8 weeks 5 days so all good.
-
Thanks Izzy. Daytime hunger doesn’t bother me but evenings bad. I did 6 weeks after Christmas with no sugar apart from in berries and didn’t lose half a pound so that is why I am trying to cut down on carbs in general. I like all foods but just don’t want to spend hours preparing. I tend to prefer hot food instead of cold
-
thanks will do. After years of no fat food as you say you tend to automatically buy it. I can’t stand full fat milk in tea now but I will try some as a hot drink at night (without chocolate!!)
-
Have managed below 800cals today and under 60g carbs. but my fitness pal shows I have had only 1/4 of daily potassium quota. Guess I will need but and mineral supplement. I am overweight and feel at risk of diabetes so want to give this a good try. GP has advised low carb but gym trainer tells mecI don’t eat enough and should eat 1400 Cals a day but that is not for me
-
In week 2 I have lost 2 lb, which makes a total of 7 lb.
What I have noticed, is a difference in my shape. I seem to have lost the roll of fat that used to stick out over my waist band, and yesterday I wore a pair of trousers that were uncomfortable last time. Now they fit comfortably.
Don’t get me wrong, I still have a lot of weight to lose, but its great to see a difference.
-
Burger soya and linseed is 11 carbs but that is a large slice
-
I have fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. A few times I’ve either not been able to get full fat or have bought the fat free I used to buy without thinking and even though I’ve had more, I’ve been much hungrier than when I’ve eaten the kinds with fat in, so do try switching to that to help the hunger pangs.

I have started this week and really tried to keep to 800 calories but I have symptoms I would assume be hypoglycaemia. I am not diabetic and not on any medication and have been really careful about no carbs but I wake up starving and anxious, then been dizzy confused and feeling faint and really hungry between meals. I have topped up with more water and raw cashews but that has taken me up to 1200 calories. Anyone else struggling with hunger and confusion? I have managed the 5/2 for a few months on less calories before but not sustained it as it has felt harder and harder as time goes on. Any advice appreciated.

Hi SnowWhite
if you haven’t read the book, may I suggest you start there as it appears from your food choices that you’re doing a low carb, high protein diet rather than following the principles of the BSD.
Food wise, you need to have fat to stop the hunger, so ditch all the low fat products and replace with full fat. Full fat yogurt for breakfast, full fat milk in your hot drinks, try adding cheese to your salads, try adding some fish into your diet (salmon, mackerel or fresh tuna are ideal) snack on a small handful of nuts or seeds etc.
As others have pointed out you need to be drinking lots, approx 2-3litres a day, I know if I don’t drink enough as my weight loss stalls.
Hope things start to move in the right direction soon x

Hello JK88
There have been several comments on these forums about the calories counts in the book, as many of them are inaccurate – sometimes by a fair way – and can be either up or down from what is stated in the book when calculated using any of the calorie counting resources found online.
Some users say as you do, that going by the calorie count in the book will probably even out over time. Other people weigh the ingredients and do their own calculations so they know exactly how much they are eating. Certainly weighing is more accurate than using spoonfuls as a measure, unless you are using measuring spoons. And different brands do vary, but they all have the info on the packaging, thank goodness!
And congratulations on getting started. It’s quite a journey that we are all doing, and there are some amazing success stories to inspire us.
-
Wow Alan that’s terrific! Big applause for you!!! Are you a hypnotherapist?
I still two weeks to go to join this group legitimately but wanted to get inspired by everyone!
Hope it’s okay I came in a little early!
๐ -
Wow congrats Polly! You are noticing several improvements!!
-
I might put some new batteries and try again tomorrow!
-
I eat some every day but it’s sure true our tastebuds change. Huge congrats on getting through your trip!! Glad it was fun and you were able to stay on your plan and take care of yourself!!
๐ท -
I give you 10 hearts for being able to juggle the carbs!
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ -
Get a new scale – that is too big a jump! Unless you are readying for your monthly visit.
-
Gutted – I weigh myself each day and today got on the scale and put on 7lbs since yesterday! How – I ate 789 calories – according to my fit bit burnt 3202 calories, drank about 3 and a half litres of water ๐ข๐ข
Luckily I have written it off to hormones – maybe water retention coz of warmer weather so it hasn’t demotivated me, hopefully scale will drop back down in the next day or 2!
-
Thanks everyone for your advice…I have looked at other ideas and things as well. I work in a school and have a long stretch from waking up…working out…then work…then lunch…I do sometimes just have the two meals a day with a snack mid morning…but this will vary from day to day.
I like the cold ‘quiche’ ideas a well so might do something like that in my muffin tins etc. -
Never thought about salt. I never have been a big water drinker . I will drink more and see if that helps. Thanks
-
I drink 4 cups tea no sugar skimmed milk. About 4 cups peppermint tea and 1 or 2 pint glasses of water a day
-
i don’t have all the details of your diet, but I’d ask you how much water you’re drinking like Patsy said and what is your salt intake. Try ditching the ham/pork and see what your weight does. I notice that when I have pork, even within my calorie budget it causes me to retain water which equals no weight loss or worse weight gain. If ham is something you feel you can’t give up try to drink more than the recommended 2 liters of water a day, like 3 or 4 liters. I’m guessing the salt is sabotaging you. I hope that helps!
-
What are you drinking and how much?
-
Thanks, Orchid – yes, I know all sorts of things affect actual weight ๐ Not too much detail, it’s all helpful!
It’s just sometimes you feel that if you’ve hardly eaten anything, then SURELY the kilos will fall – and then they don’t.
So I’m focusing on the measurements, still, and leaving the weight to deal with itself.
From the way I’m feeling at the moment (stomach bug still around, unfortunately), it’s going to be a 414 calorie day with 19 g of carb, as really can’t face dinner, and it may be yet another night with 2 bottles of fizzy water. And possibly some Gaviscon. (it didn’t occur to me to check the calorie/carb count of a teaspoon of that :-0 )

Hi
I am an overweight pre-diabetes 60 year old. I am reasonably active – have 2 donkeys, 2 dogs, and look after my granddaughters once a week but have osteo arthritis which prevents long walks.
I stared the BSD Saturday 4th June and am doing the 800 diet but not lost a lb. I get quite hungry but do not give in despite desparately missing toast and marmalade! I have followed some of the recipes and my day is:
breakfast – low fat greek natural yoghurt with strawberries
lunch – ham/chicken/eggs with salad
tea – salmon/chicken/pork with salad or vegplease can you help?
-
Hi Igorasusual,
Sometimes you just hit a plateau or the body decides to slow things down while it catches up with the changes. Also – I find that once into the BSD I was not moving my bowels daily, but every second day. I generally find that the day I don’t have a bowel movement my weight does not change – may go up a little, the day after the bowel movement my weight drops. Basically – the bowel needs to get to full first and the less I eat the longer that takes – and the poo weights something! That is how I explain it anyhow – probably too much information :-). -
No problem Venusflytrap. Ours didn’t look quite as good as that pro picture but tasted great. We’ve just made another batch but rolled it out flat as a pizza base!
Yes, the Dietdoctor site is great with a heap of free info on it and perfect for BSDers. ๐
-
I think it seems to be useless to worry about weight – on Wednesday I seemed to have some sort of stomach upset. Had indigestion (couldn’t pin down a reason for it) and eventually resorted to some Gaviscon, and had an early night.
Thursday I felt better in the morning and was travelling for work – had some eggs for breakfast and a Pret a Manger protein pot for lunch, then stomach was uncomfortable all afternoon and when I got home I decided simply to drink some water and go to bed so final calorie count for the day was only 508, with 11 carbs!
Decided to treat that as a fasting day (no eating between 1pm Thursday and 11.30am Friday), and thought I would see some result on the scales this morning, Friday – but no! 1lb up!!!
On the other hand, looking quite slim. Hello ribs!
And fat burning according to my Ketostix. I’ve not got a lot to lose, and weight loss has not been as dramatic as other people, but I do keep wondering if – after something like the last few days – I will get up and see a kilo or so gone overnight.
not yet….
-
I started a variant of BSD on June 2, thought I’d put in a weekly update.
Starting weight: 110k.
Week 1: 106.I am a member of the nutracheck calorie counting website, but I’ve been pretty dormant for the past year or so. Am now back on the case with logging all calories and exercise.
I’m not going for the full 800-cals per day BSD, but have gone for the following:
Breakfast: Fruit & Greek yoghurt, smoked salmon and/or omelettes for breakfast.
Lunch: Either chicken breast or fish fillet with lettuce, tomato, peppers, cucumber dressed with yoghurt & mint plus apple
Supper: Protein + vegetables + pulses &/or salad supper, once a week berries with cream or Greek yoghurtThis week I’ve managed one fast day of under 600 cals.
I’ve also started more intensive exercise – I use Davina McCall DVDs, so am mixing up cardio, HIIT and resistance. I try to walk an additional 6,000-9,000 steps as well.
First review is June 30, when it will be four weeks into new style of eating, second review will be July 28. I’m aiming for weight loss of about 10k by then, with another 10k off by September 30 and hopefully a final 6-7K by mid November. I’m tall 5’81/2), and I’m a straight 14 dress size when I’m about 82-84 kilos. If I can get to 79-80 kilos by NY, I’ll be very happy.
-
breakfast – berries walnuts and yoghurt
lunch – cheese and onion frittata and salad
dinner – 1 baked portabello mushroom filled with bacon and brie, with baby spinach and coleslawalso 4 tiny squares of dark choc
2 teas
1 cup of milk
(hoping, since it is only 5.35pm – that I wont eat anything else but cant guarantee it) -
Breakfast – strawberries and yoghurt
Lunch – egg and cress salad
Dinner – will be a curry with gram flour flatbread. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m going to have a glass of wine too. -
Hi all,
Im brand new and starting the diet this Monday coming.
Im 32, a Dad of One and in December going to be doubling that up. after hearing about the diet on the radio, I looked into things a bit closer.
Im currently sitting at 110 Kg and all of my weight goes around my waist, so I know that i am a prime candidate for the issues this diet combats.I want to get much healthier to be able to play with my kid(s) as they grow up and i get older, and also as a small treat for myself, I was bought a skydive for my 30th birthday that i haven’t been able to do as the weight limit is 100kg.
Im a massive snacker on crisps and nuts, so this is going to be a real challenge for me, but im going to follow the recipes in the book and use it to help me focus on the diet.
I play Golf and have a garden that I am clearing, so my golf scores and the progress of my Garden are going to be tied in to the diet to try to keep me motivated!!
wish me luck!!!
James

So is the consensus on this that different brands offer more or less calories?
I suppose if you stick to the figures on the menus, in the long run it wont make such a massive difference?

Hi Polly I hope your crackers turn out well ๐ the granola portions are certainly going to be small. but it tastes yummy ๐ I’ve divided it into 3 tubs so it is easier to guage the portions, each tub having 8 portions (assuming half sized portions from recipe) so although it is still small it will be a good 2 tablespoons per portion I think. Nice to top some yoghurt, or to mix with a few chopped berries and have with a little almond milk… or it’s nice just to eat as it is, so sometimes I might take a portion out just for a snack.
Hi Happy ๐ I don’t know why but I can control it all ok. The granola although high calorie is really mostly nuts anyway! I struggled a little at lunch as my son had a lovely slice of seeded bread and it looked so nice… I’d have been ok if I’d got around to making crackers but I didn’t have anything to dunk in mine! I just ate the soup and made do though!
Lunch was another happy accident. I had a left over chicken breast that needed used up so I popped it in a pan with an onion to fry then added chicken stock, a carrot, a can of tomatoes and lentils and blended it into a yummy soup! I have 5 portions ready for the freezer ๐
dinner is going to be roast chicken as my daughter complained recently that I never do it anymore. It is because I used to do it in the slow cooker but my big slow cooker broke and we’re not planning on replacing it as I don’t use it as much with BSD food.
My daughter is home from her trip and seems to have had a great time, enjoying Kayaking most of all. I’m off to get the playsand now so I will have it here for tomorrow and tonight I will get the corner of the garden ready for it ๐

Hi.
New to the site and just starting out on the 8 week diet. I’m interested in knowing what I’m starting from and am thinking about getting a blood sugar monitor. I see there are some devices listed on the site but on checking Amazon (other sites are available) my eye was drawn to the iHealth BG1 Smart Gluco-Monitoring system, I like the idea of it automatically logging results and also the fact that it seems to integrate with the Apple Health app. Has anyone here used it or have any other recommendations?
Many thanks
David

Not convinced by the low carb cheese thing! I didn’t have mozzarella to add in, but a bit dry and – yuk

Hi Timmy, I just HAVE to try Marmite with Marmelade now. Well maybe when I’m not having a hungry day and have the kcal to spare. I was wondering if the urge towards Marmite was genetic, and your family would seem to prove that. But Flytrap Junior does not share Flytrap’s and my taste for it. Maybe he’s a foundling or a substitute as there is his anti-gravy stance as well?
Thank you for the recipe, outrunner2k7. It actually does look like real bread in the picture and the grains in the recipe mean that it doesn’t sound too outlandish. Actually thanks for the link to the whole site, it looks perfect for the BSD tribe.

Hi Izzy,
Hope all is going better and that the smell of granola made you happy!! Isn’t it funny how smells can make us feel better – aromatherapy on our own!!
More power to you as I stay away from any carbs except fruit or vegies. Just too risky for me!!
Happy day everyone!!

Well I made it through week 6 without any issues. I can’t believe it’s still so easy to stay on!! And I lost a lot this week!!
Lost -6.6 lbs for a total lost of -24.3 so far!!!! I don’t think I have ever lost that much so far in to any program and I still feel great also!Well Izzy right now I decided to try and take four days a week off and see clients three days a week and then after a month I will try and every other week seeing clients. Can’t do it yet as I already have people booked each week this next month.
Today is a day off after working everyday and working 7am to midnight last night either with clients or on my website work. I was tired!
Finally get to see friends today and tomorrow and Sunday! Today two gal friends are coming over for lunch so we bought salad fixings and will chop them all up like a salad buffer for every to choose items they want on their salad. And then we will repeat that tomorrow when a guy friend from my old job comes over. This was planned so it’s easy for us to eat on our food plan!!
On Sunday we go out with my work buddies from my last job but I picked the place for lunch and will have salad with crab.
It really pays off for me to plan ahead. Brown I don’t have to worry about what I might eat.
I also hope to have time to go through my clothes because I need to find some clothes that fit better. I must have some in a drawer or box somewhere!! HaWell I wish you all an amazing day and thanks for all your support!!

Hi I have just started the diet after buying the book and checking this site and forum x I weighed in at 13 st 5 lb and I am pre diabetic . I am finding the diet easier than I thought and inspired by a lot of the forum posts on here . I am a vegetarian and cook most of my meals but snacking is my downfall x
I haven’t used the recipes in book yet but following my own using app to count calories . I have been shocked by how high some of my ‘healthy’ smoothies and meals are in carb values , which is probably why I haven’t lost any weight using them this last few months x
Trying to get my head around diet and confused by some things x how many carbs can you actually have every day ? I have been feeling bloated is this normal as I am drinking more water ?
Thank you -
Just finished week 6!
This week I lost 6.6 lbs – on week 6!!!
Total lost is 24.3 lbs on this planLoving it and all the friends here and support! Thanks to everyone for helping me keep going! It seems easy to stay on still and many friends have started it and also lost a lot.
Hugs to all! ๐๐ท

Hi everyone
In the 3 months we’ve been doing this we have finally found a recipe that is actually looks, feels (in the mouth) AND tastes like bread!
We made it today and it’s awesome, Highly recommended (toasted with lashing of butter and Marmite!?!)
http://www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/the-low-carb-bread
Enjoy
P.S. Fellow marmite lover ๐

It’s the cocaine, sorry, flavouring on them that makes them so moreish and temping. Not after reading that article though. Yuk!
-
Thank you ๐
-
“slurry of wheat, rice, corn, and potato flakes” doesn’t feature on the cartons or the advertising
might as well put “sweepings from the factory floor’ on the ingredients list
-
http://naturalsociety.com/how-pringles-are-made-potato-chip/ I don’t like how Pringles are additive. I no longer buy them. Are they in fact a food anyone would want to eat?
-
Oh yes, Flower55, that is your carb addiction speaking! It’s a very common feeling, and is a really good sign that you are taking control and telling your addiction where to get off! It’s not going to control you any more.
Keep on with the fruit teas and do stick with it – it gets better soon!
Good luck!

Day 5 & doing ok but today I’m feeling shaky at times. I’m drinking plenty of water & fruit teas which helps with hunger pangs. Has anyone else experienced the shakes….like you wanna eat something sweet or stodgy to get rid of it?
