I feel a little like that sometimes so occasionally I have Nairn’s fine milled oat cakes with a strong cheese … just two!!! They are 36 cals each and 4.3 carbs so not too bad as long as you can stop at a couple!!

I always used to say I’d never met a cake I didn’t like! I drooled over recipes, GBBO, made lots myself, bought them in cafes. But I haven’t had a cake since I started this way of eating, back in May. I’m maintaining my weight now, having lost 2.5 stone, and I can honestly say cake holds no attraction for me any more. Nor bread, rice or pasta. And lord knows I’m no saint. The desire just fades away with lack of use!
Stick with it, all will be well. -

A strange day yesterday . Had all my food logged and tried to cook cauliflower in an actifry !!! Huge mistake . Started with 200g of lovely fresh cauliflower and ended up with a few charred rubbery bits of something! Anyway had to improvise so calories a big high.
Calories 991
Carbs 30.7
Fasting bloods 6.4 even though they are meaningless I feel good that they’re coming down! But, lost another pound!!!! That’s 6.2 in five days!!! I must have been rubbish at counting and weighing before!
Krysia, my ‘history’ is very similar to yours. Started July 5th, lost 15lbs in first 8 weeks, actually more if you include the pounds I had to lose twice!! Then went away for most of September and put on 2.6lbs. Now after 5 days of being ‘serious’ I’ve lost 6.2lbs!!!
I couldn’t agree more about planning the day in the morning rather than just going with the flow. It does give you the flexibility to tweak here and there when needs be.
Have a good day everyone.
-
@shalimar – did you use a blender on the soup?
-
I started on Friday 30th September and have done 2 days so far without the carbs. Was so surprised not to get hunger pangs like I have done in the past when dieting. I am a 49 year old woman with about six to seven stone to lose. I have never joined a forum before but find this thread very encouraging.
-
Sprouting things is a great idea, tigs. I hadn’t thought about that. If I recall rightly, it ups the protein content amazingly. Years since I’ve sprouted beans and lentils. Thanks for the reminder.
I was going to say the same as Frog, nuts. Almonds in particular are very crunchy.
Raw veg is another: in salads or as sticks for dipping in tzaziki or hummus.Or you could try these:

on 2 Oct 2016 at 07:15 in Welcome to the BSDWell, I had a disastrous day yesterday. No exercise but lots of mad rushing about and unplanned food eaten in a terrible hurry. No idea how many calories.A seriously bad day, as shown by my weight this morning: 84.4 kg. Scary how much can go wrong in one day!
Anyway, I’ll be back on Saturday, an honest woman and a bit heavier. But I’ll be back on the bandwagon immediately.
Good luck everyone. -
Hi Willbeskinny. That is a great result so far and every pound gone is a step in the right direction. They will quickly add up! On the cake side I agree tough to think it is out of reach for now. From what I am reading, you may just find you no longer crave it as the carb addiction gets dealt to so well on this WOE. Hoping that is the case anyway. Be strong and go well ๐
-
Tired and Trelawny, you are both awesome. What great progress!
-
Ok I am very encouraged to get the book! Those recipes sound delicious. Does it have calories and macros measures with each recipe?
-
I have got back into sprouting things and pea shoots are amazing! Just had a salad and they made it super crunchy and tasty

on 2 Oct 2016 at 04:09 in Welcome to the BSDThanks for the shake/smoothie idea pgates, I’m always excited for something new. Carb cravings are tough! Hang in there… sounds like you’re doing well. Mine gradually decrease over days to a week. They come back with a vengeance if I indulge. Water helps a ton…and like you said, distraction! Two days under your belt! Great start!!
Today: 749 Cal’s
56 carbs
Weight the same this morning -
Thanks so much for your help. I’ll look up recipes for rotisserie chicken just to be on the safe side.

EnJOY A glass of red wine!! Just count the calories and carbs!!
3 rd blessing of the day : left a nice chair yoga class to run to bathroom, sick, dry sinuses … went to bed when i got home … SILVER LINING is that i stayed within BSD diet!!! Too sick to eat!!
-
Did CHAIR YOGA this morning. Instructor great! Left class early to run to bathroom …. think dry sinuses didn’t help.
Did you know that you can’t kill Kale!!! I had some chopped kale i put in the soup pot at the same time as the dried lentils … lentils are soft, kale is still tough!!

on 2 Oct 2016 at 01:38 in Fast ExerciseMy yoga class this morning did CHAIR YOGA … I could do a lot of it … til i got really sick and had to leave and run to the bathroom. Dry sinuses made it feel like i was breathing in sand.
There is actually a local class on Friday morning by Coleen, the same person, She makes it seem good and possible for me, when i’m healthy.
Took a sinutab and other stuff … Hope to go to aquabics class with my sister Sunday morning.
BTW … aquabics is great if you have trouble with feet/back … especially when the pool as noodles or even better those large waist tie life vests …. no impact on feet/back. Even just moving for an hour is great.
-
Splashing in water and children … life in heaven!!!
Haven you noticed that when you are hungry that food tastes great????
I’m starting to enjoy vegetables without dip …
Made some soup with lentils, beans, cauliflower, spinach with you-can’t-kill-me chopped kale!! Boy that kale is tough!!
Went to yoga …. but had to leave as i got sick. I think now it was my dry sinuses … the air seemed to full of dust it was somewhat painful … was wondering why no one else noticed. Did chair yoga … i could actually do some of it until i got really feeling like i was going to barf!
They had a rummage/jumble sale there …. and i got 3 cookbooks by Giada de Laurentis … had been looking around for a copy of Everyday Italian …. and a Readers Digest big book of salads. I think i can adapt some recipes to BSD. Salad book has some good ideas. Only 2 dollars per book!! That’s almost free.
Kept to the BSD diet today … being sick helped!!! a lot!!!

on 2 Oct 2016 at 00:16 in Starting the BSDHi Emily and everyone, I started on 27 September 2016, after the long weekend here in Western Australia. Like BigWendy I was recently found to have high blood pressure, and a borderline blood sugar. I need to lose about 13kg or 29lbs. So far so good with diet. Planning coq au vin for Sunday lunch (recipe was in Daily Mail as promotion for the recipe book). Good luck with Day 2 guys. Weigh in Tuesday morning.

Thanks Frog, great to see you! Hope things are well and going great!!
-
not lots, bit carby, but raw white cabbage – lovely spread with hummus
nuts
cauliflower rice – raw or microwaved just enough to heat it but not soften it
somewhere I used to work sued to serve parmesan lollipops as canapes (melted parmesan that has hardened – stick optional) I had some melted cheese that had done the same when I was cooking the other day – delicious!I suppose you could try baking a gram flour batter until it went crispy

A quiet day today. Took my son to the park in the rain. He loved splashing in the puddles in his wellies. When we got home he slept for three and a half hours which is a monumental nap! We vegged out in front of the telly and planned next week’s food and made a shopping list and an online order.
Later on we went into town to get a new frying pan – we went for a GreenPan fry pan and sautรฉ pan.
My wife went out for the evening with a friend. Didn’t get my son to sleep until 10pm – I wonder why?!
Feel like I’ve eaten loads today but that’s not true at all:
Baked eggs with pea and feta salad – this was delicious. The eggs needed 20 mins, not 10 – 12 like it says in the book. They rose up just like soufflรฉs and were a very tasty treat.
Turkey burgers and Moroccan salad – loved these as they were nice and spicy -
Had the skinny cottage pie tonight, was very nice, having some more tomorrow for dinner and got 2 portions of the mince mixture in the freezer for a quick dinner one night, just have to add the mash on top and pop in the oven.
Sunshine-girl – re the carbs and cals in the cottage pie, i entered the recipe in fatsecret and got 300 cals and 7.9g net carbs, thats with the cheeses. Fatsecret seems quite reliable for me but i guess there are variations in all these calculators, anything that seems hinky i double check with nutritional values online just to make sure i’m not adding something that is wildly out.

Morning, well it is here in Australia, one day down, managed NOT to drink wine last night ( miracle) and drank water instead, it was ok and I feel good this morning, going to have eggs for breakfast, ploughmans (BSD) for lunch then meeting the family for BBQ and to watch the Cronulla Sharks match (up up Cronulla!) will try to avoid wine, made chick pea crackers yesterday (amazing and easy) – so good seeing so much support on here and wonderful Emily rallying us all.

Hey all!
I’ve been out of touch for a few weeks as I was traveling but stayed on the program. Hope all is well with everyone!
Lost another inch this week although no weight but am still down 85 lbs total and just finished 21 weeks.
Still have farther to go!!
I joined a Facebook group for 800bsd but they blocked me today after I asked if they were affiliate with Michael and the book – when they said no I suggested they honor the link to this website and the forums. So they blocked me.
Be careful – seems there are some FB groups out there seeming to be connected although they aren’t really.
Wishing you all the best! -

on 1 Oct 2016 at 22:48 in Starting the BSDHi! I just started today in California. I’m 52, am pre-diabetic with a diabetic husband. He is not doing this with me for now. The fatty liver and fatty pancreas make absolute sense to me. I got down to a goal weight using an herbal supplement that is no longer on the market. The diet was 1200 cals per day. Weight loss around 8 pounds per month. I kept the weight off for over a year with little effort. I’m not sure what triggered the re-gaining of the weight. I’m thinking – re-stressed the liver/pancreas. I am looking forward to this – using this forum to inspire me through the day that my body screams at me for carbs!

Good thanks. Half way through week 5, lost 1stone and feeling so much better. Well done for stickng to plan when stressed. Bet you’re feeling good!! Your weight loss is fantastic and your health already sounds much improved. Great that the whole family is joining in. I am staying with my daughter for a couple of weeks and we have all been eating low carb evening meals. My son-in-law and grandaughter are converts to courgetti and cauli mash and we are all really enjoying the recipes from the books. Enjoy your weekend. xx

on 1 Oct 2016 at 22:37 in BSD Med Style Low CarbHi Orangeblossom, Since starting this plan I have been eating full fat yogs and cheese and even have butter to cook with as well as the olive oil and, yes my cholesterol was way down too and so were my triglycerides and also my HBA1c down from 8.2 to 6.7. My husband is a skinny thing and only has high blood pressure, but he tends to eat what I cook and has stopped asking for potatoes or rice with his meal and he has also reduced chol and tri but also his blood pressure is down so much that the cardiologist wants to take him off b/p tablets but our GP is a bit more cautious.

Well that is Day 1 done! I won’t lie…I do feel rather weak and am now slumped in bed. But am still feeling determined to carry on and hope the weak feeling willl pass once my body gets over the shock of no bread or wine on a Saturday.
It is so great to hear from eveyone. I have read the whole thread and I am not sure I could do this without this group.
P.S To those asking “can I join?” …of COURSE you can! The more the merrier. And I am not the boss of the thread! I just started it out of fear ๐
P.P.S For my own accountability, I read logging my start weight as 14 stone 2 as that is what the scales said today.
Night night all

I’m still waiting for my book to be delivered so I’m winging it a bit with what to eat, but I have lost about 4 lbs so far, and am looking forward to getting to grips with exercising again. Thanks fairydewdrop, and everyone for all your positivity, advice and encouragement. Here’s to starting anew tomorrow ๐

Hi everyone, I’ve been skulking here since I started on 27th September, I’ve lost 7lbs and its not even a week! I would like to say I’m super pleased, but I want to lose 4.5 stone so 7lbs is drop in ocean and total seems such a long long way away.
I am trying to get my head around carbs and calories, having done the no count with WW it seems slightly confusing as I’ve never calorie or carb counted. I am currently using online recipes and from the 5.2 book. Haven’t got the new one yet. I am eating brekkie and tea only, this has not been very hard as I love shashouska and it is really filling so a few times a week, although I usually have an egg based breakfast.
I really hope to keep to this successfully and I am shocked that I have not really felt ill not eating sugar or bread. I have no cravings at all, very little hunger, its usually just boredom calling me to fridge, apart from nibble of coconut I’ve been super strict.
I do think, no I know, I will struggle never being able to have coffee and walnut cake again. I have absolutely no restraint and once I’ve broken through.and started eating poorly again I’m like a crack addict.
Any support or advice in coping techniques when you just need a coffee and walnut cake much appreciated. I would say, at the risk of over sharing, pmt cravings are really difficult to cope with. -

on 1 Oct 2016 at 21:13 in Starting the BSDToday I received the 8week BSD book. I haven’t read it completely yet. Saw this site so thought I would check it out. I’m 68 and have been on a “diet” most of my adult life. I am keen to start this but as I have a freezer full of foods that won’t be appropriate feel I will not be able to it do 100%. I am not in a financial position to waste these foods. I will do my best to adapt some of my foods to BSD. Which I did tonight by making the chilli con carne which I served with steamed broccoli. Good look to all hope to join you completely when my freezer haul is depleted.

Saturday – Day 7 of BSD Fast 800. Really, really struggled today. Have gone over on kcal’s, but stayed low on carbs. Eaten loads of veg though too. I feel as though I’ve done the best I can today, but am missing ‘eating as a hobby’ โฆ I hadn’t realised how attached to cooking, nibbling, having a lovely glass of wine or a beer I am both in terms of sheer pleasure, but also as an activity.
Didn’t get a good night’s sleep last night – which always makes me hungrier. So maybe a combination of the two.
Managed not to eat the homemade cornflake crisps my youngest daughter made, or eat even a lick of the spoon of Hagen Das โฆ so am not beating myself up. Just went over with Roast Pork Belly โฆ
Today is a blip, and I shall hope to get back on track tomorrow. Fingers crossed. If not, my wiggle room is that I can perhaps swap over to the having a couple of days of more regular calories, and do 3/4/5 Fast800 days. We’ll see.

on 1 Oct 2016 at 20:51 in Fast 800At 50 and six stone lost so far, I am pretty extreme and do not really have any problems. (My bikini days are probably over, but that’s not just a bit of loose skin, I prefer swimsuits for comfort). I have your classic ‘wings’ when holding my arms up and a little empty skin around the remains of the stomach flab, but have moved from size 22 to size 14 with no concerns. As I move closer to my healthy weight I intend to up the exercise particularly around the stomach and arms to see if that will help tighten the skin any further.

Day one – so far so good.
I’ve been trying out some recipes since Thursday (when my books arrived) and so far they have been filling enough.
Breakfast – Greek yogurt with raspberries and blueberries + black coffee
Lunch – Made a ham, mushroom and spinach omelette amounting to 336 cals (olive oil was 119cals!!!)
Dinner – cauliflower rice, prawns + side of lettuce. Some background – I’m Asian and I like to cook so altho the recipes are to my tastes anyway, I also have to cook for my mum’s tastes. I was able to adapt tonight’s dinner for both us. Using MFP app is great for adapting recipes.

Welcome back Janey ๐
Not sure I would be brave enough to bare all these days…might blot out the Sun…๐๐๐
Reminds me of a holiday in France (way back in my early twenties), when a friend from my college days invited me to join her, her husband, and their children on a weeks seaside camping holiday. I travelled across from the UK by train to meet them at the camp. Wasn’t till I arrived that they ‘shared’ the information that the campsite and beach were designated as a naturist site๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ First day kept my clothes well and truly on!!! Soon felt ridiculous and shed my inhibitions pretty quickly (for an uptight Brit!!) – really enjoyed the freedom. Still drew the line at supermarket shopping naked though๐ฒ -
@fairyface best of luck to you too. I have found the first day easier than I thought, would usually be sitting with a glass of cold prosecco right now but have swapped it for a large glass of fizzy water. We had the Thai red curry for dinner tonight, have noted only 3 tsps paste needed next time as it was a bit too spicy for me. First time I have had cauli rice and enjoyed it definitely better done in the oven. keep in touch with your progress ๐
-
Good Luck with your adventure too Chris (Fatbloke). Day 1 almost over and I have really enjoyed the food I have had so far and yes smoking is a hard one to beat so I can do this. ๐
