Keep going Lostgirl – you’re making such wonderful changes! Remember we’re all going to have ups and downs, the important thing is to learn from them.
Agree about stopping the Pepsi – bite the bullet and do it! Your body deserves not to have all those chemicals inside it.
Thanks Bill1954, great article! I was a clinical research nurse for 5 years, not in the Pharmaceutical industry, but in the NHS; so I know all too well how powerful the big pharma companies are.
What I liked about the BSD book is MMs reference to not just one or two clinical trials, but the evidence base as a whole.
Ha ha Newlife, at least I only called someone’s doctor a ‘plonker’ on this website!! But you’re right!! π
Catgirl, that made me chuckle – sorry – sorry.
I think fat might be the answer! x
Steve, I’m so sorry your GP was an asshole. Next time you go, make him eat his words!
In the meantime there’s tons of support and advice here π
Dear Christi1948,
I tried the ketosticks twice and never got past the 1st base readying, so much so I thought I mustn’t have got enough on the stick and ended up peeing on my hand! Sorry if too much info! We went out for a meal yesterday for my parents anniversary and had 10oz gammon steak with salad instead of chips, got home and found out the calories for the gammon were 420! Shock horror but ketostick this morning was the next colour up, how come? Maybe we haven’t been getting enough fat in our diet but chuffed with today’s result and another pound down.
We are out tonight for our wedding anniversary so need to carefully consider food choices and see what happens. Good luck and don’t get disheartened.
Same goes for you Lucia, I had a similar week last week and couldn’t understand why but woke up this morning and the black depressing fog I was carrying around a bit like the cloud above the car in the whacky races had lifted. Think back to where you were a month ago and where you are now, you sound like a different person that so many people rely on, so if you need to lean on all of us on the forum we are all here to support you and one another.
As the song says ‘ sisters are doing it for themselves’ (and brothers).
Well done Patsy!
I peeked on the scales this morning and I’ve lost another pound so only one to go for my first stone π
Way heh, Lynne!! Fabulous result!!! π
Well said, mummytummy π
Mmmm, well, I would check what you have been eating for the last couple of days. Enough fat? No little bits of anything sweet creeping in? Pale pink does mean you are fat burning, checking should help you adjust your diet a bit. Did you check first thing or later in the day? I find first thing I get a deeper pink result.
At least you know some fat is being burned π
Hi mummytummy, it’s great to have you on board as a more experienced voice.
Your take on things is absolutely they way I regard the situation too, fortunately I have a supportive GP but many haven’t.
Some won’t even pay their patients the coutesy of hearing them out. I’d be voting with my feet.
Just posted this link in another thread, I think it says it all
theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/nov/01/drugs-pharma-doctors-patients
Hi hashimoto
Did my first ketostix test last night it was pale pink, so what can I do to make it a deeper pink? I have dumped my last pair of black trousers in the wash, they will be recycled when they are clean ditto my lovely jumper, I only bought that jumper a couple of months ago too! Well before I started this diet anyway. As I am pear shaped still can’t get into some of my summer trousers, not much black or navy in those, will keep on keeping on and by the summer I will be in them, a couple of them I have never worn, naughty!
Lynne am I going to have to call you Ralgex ?
Rubbing it in indeed
Great result though, Judith and yourself seem to have this cracked, well done.
Hi Caz
I’ve just posted the nutritional info for the flour here
https://thebloodsugardiet.com/forums/topic/low-carb-bread/#post-11165
They reckon carb count is 10g per sandwich (2 pieces) of which 6g is dietary fibre
Nor sure on the cals but should be easy to work out from the recipe.
Lowest ever fasting blood this morning – 4.0. (Sorry Bill!). It’s been jumping around for a while but always under 5. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. π³
Hi eureka
Good to hear you got your size16! That is just a dream for me at the moment, it will come though. I ditched my last pair of black trousers last night and a lovely jumper, my daughter told me they hung on me, it was quite funny to be told that.
I am a pear shape and even though I have lost one and a half stone I still have a pile of trousers I can’t get over my hips, very frustrating, I know I will still lose and eventually get into them, so I’ll keep on keeping on. Good luck to you and your journey too.
That’s great news, Lesley! Keep at it.
I’ve lost 1/2 stone! (since starting, not overnight) I’m sure my thighs are less wobbly and dimpled too. Don’t know if that’s the diet or the extra walking, but it’s good news either way.
Kags that is truly heart breaking for you. let’s get the word out there to save others from that fate xxx
Fantastic Christine!! I’ve just been pestering a few friends via email!!
No worries. I truly hope this goes through. It still breaks my heart when I think of mum, who was T2 and moved on to injecting, told to eat up her carbs, stuffing down her salads with boiled potatoes, and her Weetabix every morning. She might have still been with us had we known about the BSD earlier.
Have signed and shared on Facebook.
Finally got husband to sign last night he also posted it on his Facebook page!
Hi. I was reading in the book that meal replacement shakes are permitted in the Fast 800 period and I’m thinking that these may be good for me just for lunches at work. Easier and I can get them as I need them. Does anybody know if any ones are better at filling you up than others ? I’ve tried the Celebrity Slim ones in the past and they are very unsubstantial. Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Oh Kags that is good to know!!! Thanks
Hi Bill
How many calories and carbs are in the flatbreads ? They sound really great. You said they have complex carbs so are they OK ?
Thanks
Just want to point out that you only need to be a British citizen, not necessarily living in the UK, to sign petitions to the Government. So, those like me – British exports overseas – can also get their finger out and do it π
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I’m going to try all of them π I’ll start taking my breakfast to work and eating a bit later in the morning. I have also been using low fat yogurt in the bircher to try and save a few calories but I won’t do that anymore.
All the snacks sound great so I’ll give them a try as well.
Really grateful for the advice.
Petition
NHS to encourage the treatment of type 2 diabetes with a low carbohydrate diet.
Professor Taylor has shown that Type 2 diabetes can be reversed using a low carbohydrate, low calorie diet. The NHS has announced it is rolling out a programme to give pre-diabetics lifestyle help. There is no mention of the blood sugar diet which pre-diabetics and diabetics should be following.
βΌMore details
The programme will cost Β£7 million pounds to run. The dietary advice will be the same as that currently being followed. We have a diabetes epidemic so the old advice is not working.
Dr Maureen Baker, of the Royal College of GPs, welcomed the scheme but she warned βThe long-term behaviour changes we need to see is hard to inspireβ. However, there are forums for the Blood Sugar Diet which offer the support and inspiration needed which will also ease the burden on GP surgeries.

I also read an article on the news this morning about problems with asthma diagnosis. Too many kids diagnosed incorrectly causing people to trivialise a serious disease. If you have seen someone having a life threatening asthma attack you will know what I mean.
You should look up that article Lynne posted yesterday. That was very refreshing to hear.
π
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I will add some beans into my salad for lunch. About 6 years ago I lost 12-14kg which took 8 months. I ate between 1000-1100 calories a day. I was able to keep the weight off until now. I have gained back 5 kg and want to take that off again plus another 5kg. My activity level is high as I train most days. Yes Cherriaine, my clothes are slightly fitting again and measurements starting to change. Maybe I am building muscle which weighs more then fat and therefore not so much weight lose. When I read 8 weeks, 15 kg, I knew it was to good to be true. Will keep you posted and thanks for the encouragement:)
It’s pretty damming when the professionals are starting to speak out like that.
I found the comment from the editor of the Lancet fascinating too.
” possibly half of the published medical literature may simply be untrue and that science had βtaken a turn towards darknessβ.
Louder voices to add to the campaign to sort the profession out.
Very true, Bill ! π
Hi April, take some paracetamol while you have headaches in these first few days. Once you are rid of the carb flu you will be absolutely fine!
Are you having hot drinks other than coffee? Try hot water with a slice of lemon or some herbal teas – they are more soothing than just cold water. And I hate to say this, but too much coffee can lead to headaches!!
Hope you are feeling better quickly π
I had ryvita last week and I’ve used the same cream cheese before without problems and everything else I had yesterday is in my usual food list.
Probably just a glitch and if it doesn’t continue not a problem.
Nobody ever said there wouldn’t be potholes along the road, and this isn’t enough to worry me, I was just really annoyed more than anything else
Oh well tomorrows a new day π
Thanks MerryMary, I will add coconut yoghurt to my shopping list!
Hi Debs14 – remember FAT is GOOD. If you are not eating dairy and mostly chicken, fish and veg where is your fat coming from?
If you are dairy intolerant you could add olive oil to your veg and salads, to your soups etc.
Like Cherrianne has said people often find their weight stalls and then begins to fall more rapidly.
Good luck! π
hi Bill, I’ve printed that article to read at leisure and share around. Thanks. How many pharmacists do you know who take a lot of drugs? Not many, I bet! They understand the interactions between drugs and the body in more detail than the average GP so avoid taking anything unless strictly necessary. I know my son is concerned about the number of meds I am on and pleased I am managing to reduce the massive doses of inhaled steroids I was put on by the consultant. π
Hi Liz
Per 28 grams (I only use 1 tbsp which is less)
17 grams carbohydrate 11 grams of which is dietary fibre so good carbs
5 grams protein
4 grams saturated fat
0 trans fats
Calories 124
Taken from
nutritiondata.self.com/facts/custom/591392/2?quantity=8.0
Thats for the coconut flour
hi Deb, what a lovely idea to count your blessings like that. We should all take a leaf out of your book!
Sorry to hear about your foot pain, could Cherrianne be right? Your poor feet would have got quite cold shovelling all that snow!!
Hope it is much better today π
Sharon sounds like Wednesday has turned out rather downbeat for a few people. Hope everyone’s day gets brighter.
You’re right about the immune responses – if I am about to go down with something I know in advance because my right kidney starts grumbling, usually 3 days before I notice I have an infection. Weird!!
Bill, read that article that Lynne mentioned about gluten. Who knows? Daily Mail yesterday.
π
Great advice here – thanks everyone. I am using all of these tips to jazz up my usual methods as I struggled way back when I embarked. On the 5:2 Fast Diet to lose my obesity and embark on a healthy eating plan.
This is always in my diet with is chai seeds, flax seeds, leafy veg, chick peas, lentils, coconut oil in strong black coffee:)
https://www.eatwater.co.uk/
Happy eating and well-being all xx
You’re right lostgirl, keep on eating the right foods. Tomorrow the scales could tell a different story. You know the cake and choccy set you back – not the real food!! Keep you pecker up! Put some good music on!!! π
Yeah… Bill that sucks…. but it is like I was saying before… the body responds to unseen and sometimes unknown (by us) stimuli – you may be in fact mounting an immune response to something… you don’t feel any different, but your body knows it needs more circulating BS for something… it can jump even if you get a little surprise – like being tooted at…. or you may have had a distressing dream that you don’t remember. Whatever it is I hope it is a one of for you… coz I am hanging my hopes on your success too…hahaha…. good luck and keep up the good fight…
I learned a lesson myself last night… for the first time broke my regime and snuck a piece of liquorice – bored and not sleeping well – others here speak of sleeping very well but I am having difficulty obtaining sleep…. anyway… thought in my befuddled state that my old habit of eating something “naughty” before bed might help…. wow… had racing heart, hot and cold, worst thing I could have done… felt like I had had half a dozen expresso coffees… wow… taught me a lesson though. BTW… fasting BSL is jumping around this week, but because of the posts on here I was expecting same, and rather relieved that it is happening… in week 4 now…
Cheers
Sharon
I’m sure this is counter productive but because I don’t see a loss.. It makes me not want to eat.
That’s bad ..: I know but I can’t stop myself
Lostgirl, you don’t need that nasty sugar filled cake!!! I drank a glass of wine last night, it fitted in with calories, but I put on a pound!! I know if I am good for a couple of days that pound will disappear and take a bit more fat with it.
On a positive note – if you do cut the pepsi max after a week or two other things will begin to taste much sweeter. Blueberries taste like blue balls of sugar to me now, almonds taste as if they have been sweetened. You may begin to like herbal teas once you cut sweetened things out of your diet. I know it’s hard.
See if you can do a pepsi max less day today and see if the scales tell you a better story in the morning.
Put some nice, beaty kind of music on and strut your stuff while doing the house work!
Hope your day goes on better than it started π
Yesterday’s menu:
B ham, walnuts, hummus
L ham, mixed salad, russian salad, beetroot, honey & mustard dressing
D meatballs, ratatouille, vegetable curry
39g Carb / 763 Cal
Lots of useful information – very helpful, thank you everyone
Bill, do you think it could be those nasty, limp ryvitas? Everything else you ate sounded good.
I foolishly imbibed a glass of red wine last night. Result? The scales tell me I put a pound on overnight! Now that hasn’t happened in weeks! I’m keeping off the wine now. π
