    Hi there,
I am in my 3rd week and have amazing energy BUT in week 2 I had a couple days I felt very weak and like I might faint. I upped my water intake a lot because I read in the book that you lose a lot of water with the fat leaving so you must drink a lot (I forget how much).

Also take t easy on yourself through week two as the energy does seem to come back for all. I feel more energetic than I have in years but week 2 I thought, ” how are people exercising? ”

A doctor I know told me it takes a little while for our bodies to figure out where to find fuel when we switch from carbs to protein. It keeps looking for carbs for days and then once it figures it out we feel great again. It’s that few days it doesn’t know where to look that we feel weak. As if we hadn’t eaten almost.

    Best of luck everyone!!!

Feeling a lot better today, thank goodness. And got on the scales this morning and have lost another 2lb. That’s 10lb in a week and a half. I’m fairly happy with that considering how slow weight loss is with some other diets. Plus, I don’t feel deprived on this diet as I have done with others, which has led me to give up.
Bissell …I see you’re learning Welsh. Where are you from? I live in South Wales, but do not speak the Welsh language. Good on you for learning! Languages are not my strong point!

    Hi roses posy,
Yes there are lots of us on this path and some of us are already around the bend!!

As it is only 8 weeks maybe calculate your finishing date and do a count down, ticking off the days on a calendar.

As it is a count DOWN and not for ever, maybe you can do it this time.

I know what it is like with distractions…… Oh she’s got a nice pair of shoes…….
Sorry, yes, it is so easy to wander off.
Always know , we are family.

I like bacon and broccoli in some chicken stock. I use a little bit of potato to give it a creamier texture when it’s blended up, but if you wanted really low carbs you could leave that out.

  • Hi Rozy,

hahahaha BSD book right by the bakery section that IS funny!

I’ve got major projects at work in a job I dislike so brain fog is something I need to fix, still having issues drinking enough water. I weighed myself this morning and no further weight loss – motivated me to come into work, fill a glass and drink – only finished it now though oops!

Awesome news on the screening! its lovely being given the green light on health checks.

Yep exercises in the book, need to find my book, I left it in the kitchen and think one of my housemates must have picked it up but yeah, adding steps each day to walk more and strength resistance exercises etc. I think I will start more strictly next week. Right now just need to stay focussed and get through the weekend without falling off the wagon.

So I’ve done my first day on the BSD diet and now into day 2. Yesterday I made a batch of the Superfood Soup and found it filling and tasty. I also have been having 1 hard boiled egg for breakfast and a diet shake for lunch. I did have some snacks of nuts and seeds to stave off the difficult hunger pains, but I think I am well below 800 calories a day.

And I made myself walk up the 9 flights of stairs to my flat, once. I aim to increse these stairway ascents as time goes on. I also did some situps today.

I really, really, really hate dieting, but after reading the BSD book, I feel ready and motivated.

I’m also hoping that this forum will offer some support!

    Hi All,

Phew! Thought it was because I had a major slip up end of week one then started again. I lost 3.2kg in week one even with the slip up and so far week two I’m on Day 4 and only lost 700grams. I am feeling a bit low but then keep blaming my Nando’s dinner even though I didn’t eat the skin on my chicken butterfly and only had a leafy salad to go with it – could it be the glass of diet coke I wonder….hmmm only just remembered the diet coke. I looked up online for calorie count of the chicken butterfly and though there were a few different posts, the highest one was for 350 calories so I counted that and 25 calories for my leafy salad. I had a deficit of 40 odd calories for the day but guessed since I messed up end of week one it might even out – lo and behold I weigh myself this morning and no movement!

I can start seeing this as a way of life too as Linda mentioned so I’m not too fussed as long as I’m not putting anything on I’m happy.

MooLoc do you keep a food diary (don’t want to be assumptive but seems like you do) I just spoke to a friend who is also on the 800 cal fast and she doesn’t do exactly 800 calories every day she goes up and down but makes sure that the weekly intake averages out to 800/day. She says this works for her because her body doesn’t get too used to it. I plan on trying that for my next week on BSD.

So I’m looking at a can of beetroot and wondering if it would be okay to have some with my salad tonight. I’m thinking “6g of sugar, that’s probably a bit much…” when it dawns on me that this time last week I was having ten times that much. FOR BREAKFAST! And then again a couple more times during the day. Bloody hell! How things change.

    Hi Clairebear,
Oh dear I feel a bit guilty saying I stand at my computer when I’m retired and only use it at home.
BUT it is a challenge for me and it soon forces me to move on and get on with something else , probably more important.
So it is a good thing.

In the BSD diet book on p 160 they did an experiment where the asked volunteers to try to stand in an office for 3 hours per day. They found that they had better control of their BS levels and burnt an extra 50 calories an hour, equivalent to 30,000 extra calories a year.

Not saying this is good for everyone but some people may want to consider standing up when they can as it seems to be beneficial.
After all many people stand up all day with their jobs anyway.

Good luck with any plan you decide.

Last week I passed the 16 weeks line!

I have lost 3 stones and I am now in the middle of the NHS healthy weight and BMI range.

More importantly my health has improved.

Last week my doctor agreed I could cut my steroid inhaler use further, taking it down to the normal recommended dose!

    My acid reflux has gone.

I have fewer problems with my diverticulitis

Stomach bloating is a thing of the past (apart from the Gf brownie incident)

    I have lots more energy

I started increasing my calories in week 8 and now eat a normal amount of calories for a 63 year old woman without putting weight on!!!!!!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I still, and always will eat the BSD way!

Many, many thanks to Prof Roy Taylor, Drs Mosley (Michael and Clare) and all the wonderful new friends on these forums ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I am 44 years old, 5’5″ tall and in February started the BSD approximately 14 weeks ago. I lost 20pounds in total over 10 weeks (stuck at it like glue and yes it was hard at first). My start weight was 11stone 12 pounds, I am currently 10st6. I was not pre diabetic but needed to break the cycle of eating little protein and too many pieces of bread as my go to staple along with induldging in red wine too often. A year ago my weight maintained at 9st6pounds so had let it creep up through back end of 2015 only adding to it big time over Xmas. I am a VERY active person, I run daily on my treadmill, since starting the diet I have consistently averaged 84000 steps a week, I power walk for 45mins a day with the dog and have over the last 4 weeks started to train on a total gym to build some lean muscle adding in lean protein in to my diet also, I have also changed my steady runs for hiit workouts with sprinting for between 20 and 45/minutes. I haven’t significantly been able to up my calorie intake since officially finishing bsd, I gain if I eat more. Now averaging around 800-1000 calories a day. I am intermittent carb cycling so carb up days mixed with carb deplete days. I also exercise in a fasted state every day of the week. I occasionally have had a diet day off having healthy food, still no sugars though, but have had red wine on that day off. My major question here is I want to know if the low calorie diet has slowed my metabolism down as I haven’t had a drop in my weight for some time but know that I am counting and exercising right. I am still clean eating with no sugars and with limited off days. I wonder if my weight training is effecting my weight on the scales? I want to lose approximately another 13 pounds, would be even happy with 10. HELP!! Am I in trouble with my metabolism, has this low calories/carb diet damaged my hormones/thyroid function. I am panicking over this. Have booked in to see my GP tomorrow. Answers…anyone?

  • I usually make up my own meals which consist of some protein, fish nor chicken. I’m not a big meat eater but actually eat bacon on this way of eating. Weird. Anyway, lots of veges but the low carb kind. So broccoli, cauliflower, courgettes, lettuce, capsicums. Meals could be just salad and chicken, prawns or salmon. Or stir fry – no rice. If I feel like it I make cauliflower rice. Or spiralise some courgettes and throw them in at the end for noodles. Or a vegetable curry with lots of spices. The weekend is a good time to make some things ready to take to work. Frittatas are good and I have even been known to make scrambled eggs and bacon before work to take for lunch. The key for me is to have a few good meals to rotate. Go to http://www.ditchthecarbs.com if you want to look at some recipe ideas. I have to admit I drink buckets of coffee every day but the caffeine police don’t live on my street so there you go. Hope this helps โ˜บ๏ธ

    Hello everyone,

I’m new to this online chat, but i’ve been very inspired by what I’m reading. I began the eight week diet three months ago, was totally inspired and absolutely loved the food, but after a few distractions along the way, I slipped up. I’m determined to get back to it as it is the most wonderful diet I have ever found. This is day one for me – a new start. I hope you don’t mind me joining in as I love your postings.

Really excited about my weight loss this week which was an astonishing 5lbs which means that in 2 weeks I’ve lost one stone and a half a pound. 1st 1/2lb // 14.5 lbs. Really amazed and ready for week 3. I’m a vegetarian and sticking to most of the week one meals from the plan in the back of the book. Drinking green tea and lemon water, it all helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi everyone, well its the end of week 8 for me and today the weight is 105.2 kg. I started at an insulin resistant 120.2 kg so that’s 15 kg (or 2 stone 5 pounds in old money). That’s 13% reduction in body weight. Even more encouraging is the 5 1/2 inches lost from the belly (started at 50 inches), 2 1/2 from chest and 2 inches from the thighs, so 12 inches of my body has disappeared (hopefully never to return).
I also started to take my BS levels for the past 3 weeks and my fasting levels have never been higher than 6, pre dinner 5.7 and post dinner 6.2. Looking at the guidance that puts me in the normal range for non diabetic.
The weight loss over the last few weeks did slow down but remained steady at about 1 1/2 kg. Went through some issues with constipation and at times very cold fingers and toes but these passed and so left feeling healthier, happier and more confident.
Although the diet is an 8 week program I still need to lose more inches from the belly as my waist to hip ratio is 1 which is still high risk.So I’ll carry on and try to hit the 100 kg mark and get the hip/waist ratio below 1.
    Keep inspiring me people.

    Hi gang.
    Goal.
    What is yours?
Mine was to be a size 12 or to be 11 stone.
    These are numbers.

I want to redefine my goal.
So let’s look at what I have done to myself on this blog.

I have gone from being permanently on the settee glued to the telly. Now I am able to walk 10 miles, cycle to the shops etc. Run a bit, eg to the bus without having a heart attack.

I have gone from eating two meals of Chinese takeaway with a huge bag of chips plus three family sized bags of chocolate plus bags of crisps.
Now I eat ham or chicken salad. Or veggies with fish. Or bacon egg mushroom toms. Or just veggies.

So I am able to move more, eat less. I guess I have already hit my goal without noticing. This is what I am going to carry on doing, but if along the path, I bump into a size 12, I will be happy. But if I don’t, I have got something much more than that….. My health back.

Sorry to be a bit deep this morning, I think it is because another pound of wobbalocity has dropped off.

    Love Lucia

Today I’m doing veggie burgers and celeriac mash – wish me luck!

So day four has dawned and I have already lost five pounds. Last week for some reason my ankles were puffy at the end of the day which is unusual for me. I put it down to my coming out in sympathy with my daughter who is expecting a baby this week but actually it was probably fluid retention. I know that most of the weight loss in the first week is water so an added bonus is that my ankles are now behaving as ankles should.

I have attempted a couple of the recipes which have been very successful. Cauliflower rice was pronounced yummy by my husband and the hummus is great with loads of cruditรฉs.

I am not actually hungry but feel a bit peckish from time to time which I am hoping will lessen as my body gets used to low carb eating. I counteract the peckishness with drinking soda and convincing myself that any pangs I feel is the fat melting๐Ÿ˜‰

yes Happylife you are right I like feeling tired a lot less that is for sure! I’m tired this morning too but I’ve had two late nights in a row.

Thanks Stacey, If we jump back on the wagon we will still get to our destination. Life goes on around us as we make our life changes and I’d rather step into it than sit on the outside. This doesn’t mean I will always compromise my new habits, but ya know… sometimes is OK.

I was really proud of myself last night. After dinner I zoomed off to pick up my friend for the history tour (got my 10000 steps lol) and due to a miscommunication we were too early, so we went to the pub. I was driving anyway so not tempted by alcohol, in all honesty I don’t much drink anyway so alcohol isn’t really a big deal. My friend bought a packet of crisps, and I didn’t eat any. Just had a diet coke. Now I know that isn’t best but fizzy drinks are a rarity for me too. Later on after the walk on the way back to my car we were both cold and nipped in to Burger King so she could grab a coffee and she also bought a do-nut. Again I didn’t have anything. I actually didn’t even want anything anyways but I still felt a little triumphant. I didn’t fall off the wagon yesterday, I just stepped off for a moment and jumped back on.

Today, I’ve had yoghurt and a satsuma, felt like a change! lunch is cheese and cucumber, and dinner is going to be chicken and cashews.

Tonight I am going to make pickled eggs ๐Ÿ™‚ but it’s two weeks until you can eat them.

Well I guess I better go start my day, but at least it’s the end of my working week. I only work 4 days.

    Have a nice day!!

I found this website in my news ticker yesterday – Reading it was very helpful to me as I was concerned with the news of the last weeks regarding regaining weight. The Doc, I think, presents a very balanced view of weight loss. A healthy approach, at least from my perspective.

Hope others find it useful… might be useful in other forums too… will leave it to those more experienced and involved in the forum support network to make that decision. Please feel very free to share if you think it would help others too.

BTW… bought some scales – loss since March 12 is 13kg… very happy with that considering I had several weekends off!! and played around with carbs a bit. Total loss since beginning my wight loss journey toward better health began is now 32kg (70 pounds)… 27% of starting body weight… feeling fairly overwhelmed with that number…. 10 more kg to go…. wonder if I will make it…. life gets in the way sometimes huh???..

Good luck to everyone… Love reading posts and getting further inspiration….

    Cheers
Not quite so fatty – but still a bit!!!
