  • What do you mean, anyone else Verano, of course I’m with you. See my post on 7 day reboot. I have decided on 800 calories and 40 carbs because 30 was doable but such a juggling act. Heres to the next 7 days.

My menu today comes in at 730 calories and 26 carbs so I am still well under but got a bit of wriggle room.

    Hi everyone
I have returned from Italy one day later than planned as Easy Jet cancelled our flight on Sunday evening. This trip was a complete failure for me in terms of BSD as we ate at friends of friends or restaurants where they just bring you food (which was lovely but not at all BSD friendly – lots of bread and pasta and very few veggies in sight – not MM’s mediterranean diet, that’s for sure). In fact knowing that it was going to be difficult and I was not going to stick to BSd made me think it was OK to stop BSD a couple of days before I went! I am my own worst enemy.
Anyway I have put on shed loads of weight, but am ready and back on the bus … again.

How did you 30g carb girls get on? Was it possible and was it worth it? I may have to give your 7 day reset a go. I could certainly do with it. I have been rubbish this 8 weeks with very slow weight loss. I can’t remember if I’ve got 2 or 3 weeks left, but I intend to give it my best shot.

Glad you’re all there with me. Otherwise I may have just given up.

  • Welcome Flash21!

Don’t ‘aim’ just say ‘this week it’s going to be 40g’ ! After all it’s only 7 days!!

Have done today’s menu, find that’s really the best way for me to keep on track and have just 22 carbs and 690 calories!!!!! Will have to add to that but maybe it’s not going to be as easy as I thought to up my carbs!!!

  • Verano – I really love the 7 day challenges – it really helps me to focus on just one week at a time.

I am aiming at 30g carbs because at the moment it is right for me. Have just bought a little backpack and have started walking in my break times. I used to drive to Costa Coffee at tesco have a coffee and do a bit of shopping at the same time. Now I leave the car at work and there are two places to have lovely coffee in walking distance and I have my tablet, magazine and newspaper in my backpack so I can sit and relax. There is a Co-op, a natural health chemist and post office in walking distance so I am hoping with all that walking I will be able to eat more vegetables which I am beginning to really love.

Yesterday I walked to the hairdresser – nearly a mile and a half and all uphill. Never noticed the hill in the car. Still it was lovely walking back downhill to work.

  • Hi sunshine-girl

Glad you’re joining us. I’m going up to 35g as I really have found 30 difficult because I have to compromise on vegetables. So have done todays menu and guess what 22 carbs a 690 calories!!!! Probably because I had a high protein breakfast with few carbs!

Well done on your loss. As long as it’s in the right direction that’s fine after all a loss is a loss!!

So exciting about your insulin! Just have to keep your fingers crossed and hope your blood sugars stay steady at today’s level.

See you over on the new thread!

My weight today is 74.3 kg or 11 stone 9, 3/4 lbs. I started at 80.9 so just over 1 stone loss. To be fair, I had lost 3lbs before starting BSD but it took me from Christmas to June to do that. So on this, in 12 weeks I have lost 5.3 kg or 11 1/2 lbs (what happened to the fraction button on computers). I know this is slow in comparison but I put that down to insulin. And if it took me 6 months to lose 3lbs and then 3 months to lose just under 12, then I am doing very well. I hope it will encourage others who are on the slow side too, we don’t all have to be losing half a stone a week. Think about previous diets (mine for instance) when you would lose 3lbs in week one and then lose at half a pound a week for ever. That is why other diets don’t work, at that rate you get bored and tired of waiting so give up. Keep up the good work ladies and gents and keep on keeping on.

I should also say my blood glucose, which is my main concern, is down to 4.5 and I have reduced my insulin further.

  • Hello my friends, end of our 7 day reboot. Great weight loss Verano, and you too Krysia.

    Here are my results.
Weight start 75.4 weight today 74.3, lost 1.1 kilos or 2.5 lbs.

I am thrilled with that. I have now lost 6.6 kilos or 1 stone 1lb. Not a massive loss by others standards but I know some people have lots more to lose and it comes off quicker. Also, I repeat myself, I am on insulin which is a fat magnet.

Because I had a really low b/g yesterday morning 65 or 3.5, I decided to reduce my insulin by 1 unit last night. So origianlly on 37 units, got down to 26 and yesterday 25. Today my blood glucose is 4.3 (79). Leaving it at 25 for the next few days. Then we will see. If what happens to Krysia happens to me I might be well on the way to being in remission although I am still taking it steady.

As for a new thread, yes I’m up for it. I have another week before I go to Scotland for nearly 2 weeks (help) so want to keep up the loss. I have done a menu plan for the week but concentrating on keeping to or under 800 cal, and it appears the carbs are automatically low or can be adjusted. Today I will be having 730 cals and 23 carbs. I don’t mind going up to 40 carbs as 30 was hard work. Still, we have done it.

    Re carbs and fibre:

In the UK the packets (and MFP etc) show NET carbs (total carbs less fibre). And that is the number we are counting for our “50g or under” target.

In the US (not sure about elsewhere) the carbs on the packet are TOTAL carbs so you need to deduct the fibre grams to get the net carbs to count.

Hope that makes sense. If you need lots of fibre, just look for stuff with plenty in, but less net carbs.

    Hi everyone,
I think we should all give ourselves a big pat on the back for realising we want to improve ourselves and for being here.
I started the diet yesterday with my Husband – who I don’t think really believes me – but I think will change his mind once he starts seeing the results – as long as he is honest with himself and me!
Yes I’m hungry – but I keep telling myself that’s a good thing – my body is using the food I give it.
I think using the books and being organised is the key – and reading the great posts on here to keep us going.
Best of luck everyone – we can all do this!!!

Hi there, 9lbs in one week, wow. You have had a really big loss and your body is saying ‘what the hell is going on here’ so it is going to recalculate what it knows and expects. It is not going into starvation mode where some people believe your metabolism stops. That is no longer seen to be true. It is just adjusting, to the weight loss and to the changes in food intake. Also, on this diet because of the way chemicals in your body react to carbs and the work it has to do to process them (thats the science bit over) you may actually be losing internal fat around your liver and pancreas, which weight different to body blubber. That is where the good work is happening, although you don’t say if you are diabetic and I am too lazy to check through any previous posts you may have made (that was a joke) but, even if you are not, there will be things going on behind the sceens. Like, your liver improving, your cholesterol going down etc etc. It is a mini miracle.

Before IGORASUSUAL comes on and shouts HAVE YOU MEASURED YOURSELF, I will do it for her. Sometimes loss is seen in other ways. Come on Igor, tell it like it is. LOL.

Don’t get disheartened, have you ever lost 9lbs in one week before. I bet not. Keep on keeping on.

It happens to loads of people Jimjamz. Just put plateau in the search box!!!

Please don’t worry. But have you MEASURED????? And are you testing yourself against target clothes?

Is your waist slightly smaller? Is your belt looser or are you using a different notch?

Sometimes visceral fat (round your organs) goes first and for some reason doesn’t show in the weight.

But whatever – don’t lose heart. Have you worked out what 10-15% of your starting weight is? Ok, now pick a figure at the low end – say 12%- and divide this down into 8 weeks. This is the amount you should lose ON AVERAGE each week. But it won’t necessarily stay level each week as everyone is different.

Don’t lose heart – keep on keeping on. It will happen in the end. Believe me πŸ™‚

Talking food and creativity lovely themes for the positivity thread.

    Mine are

    1. a lie in this morning: reading online newspapers, catching up with friends in text/FB/email. Daughter up during the night, so remembered to take it easy this morning rather than leaping into the day. Hoping my batteries won’t run flat by the afternoon. This is an important learning for me to ensure I don’t relapse back into ME. Easily forgotten when you feel a bit more alive again.

    2. Realised that not only have I lost lots of weight this week, but that it took me out of the NHS weight charts OBESE category, and I’m now simply OVERWEIGHT. Hoorah!

    3. Today is my Amatsu therapy day. I simply love this. I’m sure it’s made me feel a squillion times better.

Happy Tuesday all. PS the sun is still shining in England in October, which is really a 1. 2. and 3 on the positivity scale πŸ™‚

Hello Emily and all of the 1 October starters, I don’t have a huge amount to lose, but it would be heaven to be a stone less, but I have dieted and lost and found the same 14 lbs over and over again, since I was nineteen!!!! NOt good, but now I am older (67) it gets harder and harder to lose a pound let alone a stone, I have thyroid problems which don’t help either – but I have stuck with the diet since 1 October and feel really motivated that so many of us are doing this together, with all of its ups and downs and I don’t want to let anyone down so that way my conscience has stopped me drinking wine (despite a family BBQ ) and eating away from the confines of the diet. ITs easy to follow and the food is good I went out for a mammoth shop today to make sure I had the foods on the menu plan so fingers crossed on SAturday when we post our weight ( if peeps want to) I will be happy to have lost anything, though more would be better than less! Food today, no breakfast, ploughmans – no carb for lunch and one sausage and cauliflower mash for dinner, with tea etc just over 800, good luck to everyone X

    No, not slimy!
I really like the taste of aubergine – I will post that recipe too
My favourite is ratatouille – I haven’t made that for a few weeks
Years ago you had to salt it and drain aubergine, which was faffy and took ages – I don’t bother, but apparently the bitterness has been “grown out of them” now. this wasn’t the article I read that in – but here is a similar one:
    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2010/feb/10/salting-aubergine-eggplant-crossing-sprouts
It also absorbs mega amounts of oil if you put large quantities of oil in when you cook it, which will contribute to it being slimy. The original recipe talked about using tons of oil, then draining it off. Duur?!
I will make it myself, and do it with as little oil as possible, then post it.

I also bought some delicious aubergine ‘dip’ from Waitrose – it was called a dip, but more of a pate consistency. I added yogurt to make it more liquid.http://lovemoorish.co.uk/moorish-baba-ghanoush-ish-aubergine-dip/

    Hi Jimjamz,

Sorry to hear you’re feeling despondent. From what I’ve read on these forums, a plateau is fairly common soon after you start this plan. The key is to keep going and not give up as you could only be a couple of days away from a sudden big loss. Have you done anything differently this week compared to last? Have you kept up your water intake and so on? Small changes might make big differences! Also, are you tracking your food/cals/carbs?

I’m having difficulty finding out an accurate carbohydrate listing per 100grs & although I am rereading the BSDiet book I’m not sure how many carb grams we are supposed to be eating with 800 calories a day? Having eaten avocado yesterday I was trying to find out how many carbs are in a large avocado. They are one of my favourite foods & I have three more in the fridge!
We are embarking on day two so hoping it will be OK because we have never had two “fast” days together before.
Good luck everyone on their second day.

  • Hi Doordie. If I understand you first post right you detail calories and protein. You might be like me and need to track your carbs more carefully to get a weight lost boost. Some of the BSD recipes can be a bit high in carbs for some. I was sticking to 50g carb limit a day then dropped to 20g and lost 7 pounds that week. Whilst also upping my calories from fat. Some people can eat much more carbs than me and lose.

    Hi
Anjiejag, Theresa May is T1 diabetic, rather than type 2, causes and risk factors are significantly different I believe.

Someone I worked with had bariatric surgery about a year ago – she has lost weight, but no more than people on this forum (less than you I believe Lynne) – and ended up with a very calorie restricted diet.
In the period that I worked with her, she wasn’t making particularly informed choices (pizza, albeit in v small quantities, sweet flavoured yogurts with commercial muesli), and made with the knowledge that if she over indulged, she’d be sick anyway.
When I discussed it with her, she said it effectively gave her a year to change her eating habits.
I don’t know whether or not she was diabetic, but I don’t see what the surgery added that she wouldn’t have got from a year of BSD

    Hi all,

I started on 3/10 too…off to a slightly slow start as I think I may have exceeded (obliterated) the 800 Cal limit (learning early on just how easy it is to do!). Even so, I still went to bed last night with a migraine πŸ™

    I’m hoping to lose about 2st eventually…

    Happy Tuesday πŸ™‚

  • Thanks Igor for the measurement tips! I don’t know where my tape measure is so I will find some test garments and see what happens with them. Have already had to go onto the next belt hole and the one after that won’t be far off! Usually it’s going the other way….

I’ve just done my official end of week one weigh in and am 10lbs down! Can’t believe it πŸ™‚ Well done everyone on your week 1 successes too – I hope you are feeling like you can take on week 2 with ease now!

Feelinghopeful – welcome! I often do what dlmoulton does and head for bed. But other things to stave off hunger include a big glass of sparkling water, something crunchy like celery sticks, or just distracting myself by going upstairs away from the fridge and cupboards!

  • Hi kriysiaD

Not sure what I wrote that was anything useful, I’m usually full of waffle, hehe and fat pixies, but it would be great to have you on board the reboot BSD bus, we all sit on the back seat together, cuddling up and supporting each other. 😊😊😊😊😊

  • After a really successful 7 Day Reboot a few people would like another week plus challenge.

I find moving on one week at a time suits me best so for the next 7 days please choose a carb level to suit yourself and let’s see where it takes us !!

I am moving up to 35g of carbs this week because I really need to add more vegetables without having to juggle too much with other food.

I know Jan and Krysia are on board. Anybody else ?????

I still have a lot to lose. She was really interested in what I was doing and recommended after 8 weeks to up the calories and fat a lot more but cut carbs way down. I am a bit scared to go past 800cals but she really knows her research and says I will still lose weight quickly. It is so motivating to talk to a doctor who is open to this way of dieting.

I’ve also seen the results of bariatric surgery and personally I’d rather be fat!!!!

Seriously, I wonder about the wisdom of ‘routine ‘ bariatric surgery as ‘cure’ for diabetes. I think that at the end of the day less maybe spent on treating diabetes but I think the mental health bill will escalate . Why would anybody be happy to spend the rest of their lives eating ‘6 teaspoons ‘ of soup when they could have good, nutritious low carb ‘real’ food!!!!

  • Verano very well done – what a stunning result from your week at 30g. I think the majority of BSD people do well on 50g carbs but some of us (a much smaller percentage of people and I am one of them) need to go lower or we don’t lose weight. It is such a good idea to increase by 5g per day to find your ideal amount which is probably pretty close to the 50g. I will be doing that when I reach my target weight. 30g doesn’t give you enough vegetables long term so I am looking forward to more veggies soon.

Greenjanet – it is so good to see you back. When I first started BSD I did a marathon read of loads and loads of threads and I loved reading your posts.

Weight lost this week 2 3/4lbs which takes me to 1 stone 1/4lb lost since 3rd Sept. I am so happy with that.

I would like to join your new thread as it really helped me posting on this thread. Although I may only have maybe 7lbs to lose now I will more than likely need to restrict carbs long term to 50g or lower because I would be absolutely heartbroken if I had to go back on insulin. I feel that need to treat my pancreas gently and not make it work too hard so that it keeps on working.

Yesterday I substituted some veg for 2 squares of dark chocolate – which was lovely but my tastes must be really changing because I wondered as I ate the chocolate why it didn’t taste as amazingly good as it used to.

In Week 7 I lost 7 pounds! Now down 29 pounds and starting last week of Fast 800. My weight loss was slowing down to about a pound a week which I felt a bit disappointed with so I looked closer at my macro nutrients. Had been keeping to under 50g (usually between 30&40g) so dropped to 20g max a day and lost 7 pounds. 5.5 inches off my hips and nearly ready for another change of jeans! Good thing I kept some smaller pairs!

I watched the programme, too and it brought it home to me just how damaging this condition can be. Since starting on the BSD I have spoken to quite a few people who have been diagnosed with type2, just in the village where I live! Even Theresa May is a diabetic,as she revealed on TV this morning. As a nation, we really need to wake up and address this ‘epidemic’. I was astonished to learn how much this is costing the NHS. I never considered myself to be much overweight and didn’t consider myself to be a big eater of carbs and sugar. What a wake – up call!

    Hi Verano *waves*

Many years ago I watched a programme about stomach stapling. A woman featured had the surgery performed four times. Yes, four times! First time she realised she could eat liquidised Mars bars! Then various things happened, leading to the repeat ops. Three of which were on the NHS 😱

Again, many years ago my mother was in hospital and I was speaking to her surgeon. As well as the op she was having, he also performed stomach stapling and each time Imsaw him it seemed he was looking at me as a prospective patient so I wrapped my coat more tightly round me. And I had seen some of his patients post-op!

I was, for the want of a better word, surprised earlier this year when I read that bariatric surgery would be routinely offered to all diabetics.

Perhaps the programme will lead people to get their bloods checked so if they are diabetic or pre-diabetic it will be picked up early. And for those who have already been diagnosed hopefully it will lead people to take more care of themselves. But as long as the current guidelines are in place I do worry about the future

It was also concerning what was said about the form of diabetes that children are being diagnosed with being “more aggressive”.

    Hi Suoon2bethinner πŸ˜ƒ

I did think that about the woman! Thinking about the Ribena – years ago my aunt was diagnosed with diabetes shortly before her 60th birthday. It had been missed and when it was finally detected she was immediately admitted to hospital. On the ward was a woman, also diabetic, who drank neat fruit squash. Yes, the squash you dilute – she was drinking neat, straight from the bottle! Makes my toes curl to think of it😱

I also started yesterday 3/10. This is my second time. I lost just over 2st between March and April. My diabetic medication was halved and I got excellent blood results. However a few bad habits crept back in, as did a few pounds after a holiday!! So, I’m back on it now with the aim to lose another 2st and finally come off all medication (hoping to get to 10st).
I’ve found it easier this time round too.

    Hi Frog

Jan has started 800/50 but would like some company. I plan on 800/35 for a week. Come and join us if it helps …. haven’t a thread yet!

I look forward to the salmon recipe. I actually don’t like honey unless it’s ‘hidden’ in something but I always have it in as my OH loves it!

Can I ask about the aubergine ? I haven’t eaten it for many many years because when I did have it, on only one occasion, it was ‘slimy’. Is it still the same?

I have a great butternut squash and chickpea curry recipe but it is rather high in carbs. Only have if when I’m desperate for spice and stodge !! It’s roughly 20g of carbs but only 250 odd calories. Freezes beautifully.
