That’s funny living with the carb eaters.
So started reboot yesterday, 790/38 weigh in today lost .8 kilo, delighted excellent start to the week, mind you I know where it’s all gone, bathroom trips +++++++++++ one way to get the steps up on my UP, I’m duelling with lucky at the mo, hopefully she’s coming back on board she said. Missed her sense of humour.

Hope all of your days will go well also.

    Love Jan 😊

    Way to go Mommy!
    You’ve started, that’s half the battleπŸ˜€
Don’t forget to drink lots of water and weigh and measure all your food to try and keep under 50g carbs per day. Be careful of apples as they are particularly high.
    Cheers

Hi Billingebabe and all, away until the end of the month and things are much harder than being at home. Cutting out the sweet stuff and trying to cut down on carbs. Have a constant pain in my foot like a nerve pain on top of my foot. Bit frightening…..all though feeling better in myself.

Keep going you are all sounding so positive!

  • Hi frog

Never mind luvvy, it’s much harder I’ve found beyond the first lot of eight weeks, to avoid everything, I always remember captainlynnes post of her weight loss journey, and beyond the first eight weeks, she lost a steady 1-2 lbs a week, she lost over 90 lbs like that, I had a choc hobnob spontaneously, didn’t mean to, but opened the cup cupboard to make tea and bingo there they were, I cannot prepare my mind it seems for the unexpected, I also had 2 planned chocolates in the eve, much to creamy and sweet.

But well done on the smaller clothes, doesn’t it feel so good. So do you have a aim for this week. Keep at it, you know you love it. πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜Š

  • Morning all you lovely people, how is it going?? Well done Randam 5lb off, that is a result. I’ve weighed in 3.5lb less this morning which is a wonderful feeling.
Headache gone too which is a relief!! agree with Victorir, sleep pattern has been slightly disrupted. Not really hungry this morning so I’m starting with a good strong coffee and milk from my allowance and yogurt and fruit for lunch so I can enjoy a lovely dinner…..lots of healthy things in the fridge.
Well done guys lets keep each other going!! Xxx

Another pound off this morning, and 40.1% on the body fat measure. Yesterday’s slightly experimental porridge was excellent if quite carby, and at 340 calories quite a chunk of the days 800, very filling and I didn’t eat it until after 12:00pm. My protein shake which I had just before and after badminton was another 210 calories, the remaining 250 ish were a chicken breast salad, as an afternoon tea. Drinks were herbal tea, water and a sparkling water in the evening.

morning my lovelies. Well last night we didn’t actually have stuffed courgette as I started making a batch of almond flour crackers and didn’t have time. What we did have was pork mince bolognaise made with celery, onion, pepper, chilli and a left over carrot. with some chopped fried courgette and a few crackers, it was yummy.

The crackers are my best batch yet – I added onion salt and fajita seasoning to the mix yummy yum.

so today I have a day off work because I have my hospital appointment so we will see what they say about my tests and hopefully they can help me with my symptoms. It means I get a lazy start to my day and a leisurely afternoon πŸ™‚

Soon I’m going to have a shower and then I think I will make almond flour pancakes for breakfast, take my son to the childminder, go for my appointment, get some food shopping on the way home. Then I have my son’s birthday presents to wrap as he is FOUR today! no idea where the time went. Then I plan to try to tidy my van a bit before getting my son home again.

lunch might be soup or crackers, Dinner is going to be roast chicken, I will probably have mine with salad I think.

  • Glad to see you’ve joined us over here Tizzie! Good luck with this weeks challenge.

Phlebas, welcome ! Well done on your weight loss so far … great. Maybe trying to stick to less than 30g of carbs is a bit ambitious and I’m not sure about the wisdom of that. Maybe you should aim for 30g and if you go under then no problem. 30 may just be more sustainable unless of course that’s what you’ve been doing for the last five weeks.

Anyway good to have you here and good luck!

  • Welcome back Tizzie. If 50g of carbs works for you that’s great. You can always go lower if you stop losing.

Welcome phlebas. 29lbs in four weeks is great and there is a chance you may hit a plateau but it may just be that your body is settling down to your new regime. A pound is a pound and it’s in the right direction! How many carbs gave you averaged over the last five weeks? I may be wrong but seems to me that aiming for less than 30g a day may be putting too much pressure on yourself and may not be wise. Why don’t you aim for 30g and if you go less on a few days fine?

  • JulesM
I used to practice Yoga with my children many year ago, our instructor after a few months showed us the stance you mention above, we started of using a wall for support, most of us ended up in a heap, head first on the floor, definitely advance? but fun to try? Or was I younger fitter and a bit more stupid then?

  • Morning everyone… So I stood on the scales just now

    5lbs off!!! In two days!!!

Yes I know it’s water.. But those 5lbs are not going back on again!
    What a boost!
I’ve not had headaches.. But I have had the sleep problem Victorir…..although that could also be down to the fact I’m moving house next Weds … Hahahaha!

Well done everyone so far… Starting this is the hardest part,
and thanks for being on this thread/forum… I echo everyone’s comments… Great bunch of people xx .

  • Frog ….. what’s a few glasses of wine and canapΓ©s amongst friends!!!
We have to live with the ‘carb’ eaters and joining in with them now and again does no harm. It’s just being one of them that’s not too clever!! What is your carb level for the new challenge? You are joining us??

Talking about which just checked out future learn WOW WOW WOW! That’s going to keep me occupied for a while! Have signed up for a Spanish course. I did an OU Spanish course 10 years ago and then was about to start the higher course when I took ill. Would just like to get back into it and this looks ideal. So thank you, thank you, thank you! Will be checking out the website again later today!!!

So hard today went out to lunch in Sydney for Good Food month lunch ( booked ages ago) I worked out everything I was going to eat and drink but succumbed to a glass of bubbles – got home and I just want to eat something, first time I have felt the need since I started this, probably because I’ve eaten more carbs today! Never mind back to normal tomorrow and I’ll just have to suffer ‘hunger/carb’ feelings this evening! But boy would I like another glass of and some chocolate – mm – sorry I will behave now, thank goodness we are all in this together!

    21lbs in 5 weeks.

Hoping for more next week, it is hard to keep motivated on 800 calories a day when you are not losing weight.

  • Good morning all! The duck sounds delicious!
Agree with planning ahead! Stops grabbing something carby.
It’s great on here, all the supportive comments and tips. Well done everyone, we can pull this off! Think once we are into the second week we will really be feeling this is working and we can do it the whole way through!
I did the exercise bike routine from in the book yesterday too, 10 mins with one 10sec sprint, was good.
Is anyone else not sleeping well since starting? X

Which Spiralizer did you have? I’ve got a salter but have just bought the OXO good grips. Hope it will be ok.

My cooking lately seems to have gone down the pan!

A few days ago I ‘actifried’ cauliflower … huge mistake ended up with a few charred bits of leather! Last night roasted cauliflower with yogurt and Indian spices…. ugghh! So giving cauliflower a miss for a while and next time will just steam it and mash with something!!

Will definitely try your cougetti just need some variation!

Keep strong old frog, week 6 is a grand achievement and worth the work. I thought to give it a go for a few weeks to see and just stayed on…Feeling great now and I know I have the tools to keep on the straight and narrow. The only bad day I had was day three when the carb flu thing was full on, however I was lucky next day, it went and stayed away. So many things improved almost Stat that it is incredible. Now when I read the threads of newbies to this site I smile and nod sagely.

Off now to practice my best Ostray-yun ack-scent so they will let me back in “no worries.”

  • I fancy another challenge. Definitely helps to focus on a week at a time.
Keeping my carbs at 50 as still working for me although quite often have fewer
Weight loss target 3.5lbs, half a pound a day seems possible if I stick to plan. Hormones might have their say this next week or 2 though!
    good luck (planning) everyone.

  • 7 d reboot weigh in 5.5lbs down from last tuesday which means I’ve lost just over 4 stone in 4 months so doubly pleased.
Thanks Verona for starting me on the reboot, and congratulations on your results too. In fact pretty good results for everyone and nice to have you back greenjanet.

Just watching Panorama program on diabetes on iplayer and it’s heart-breaking. I know many people won’t be able to follow a LCHF diet but at least now the evidence is building about the benefits, they should be given the right advice. Years of meds, ill health, numbness and eventually amputations- it all seem so unnecessary now I know what I know!

I am really feeling the effect of carb/sugar withdrawal or something… Having made low cal fish and veg for dinner I caved in and had two small new potatoes. I had fried them in olive oil with shallots and garlic for my family – that’ll teach me! Looking forward to Day 3 tomorrow. Going to bed feeling very hungry and really can’t full up on any more water today.

FerretQueen, I am overweight, still obese, but getting towards overweight, no BS problems, but several medical conditions, high BP, heart disease, sciatica, old age 70, to name but a few, but I can assure you the diet will work for weight loss and probably for some of your other conditions as well,

JulesM is being careful and perhaps you should see your doc first, but remember if you had to have a serious op your surgeon would put you on a very low calorie diet for weeks beforehand. If you notice in another thread the BBC doco on the folks having bariatric surgery they dieted BEFORE the operation. I have not seen this yet because the BBC won’t let me watch it ( in OZ)

By all means consult your doctor, but do not let her put you off. Just read lots of the threads here for inspiration and good ideas – and look at folks like Igor and Jules among others who have had great success. My BP and cholesterol have both gone down and I have a long way to go.

    HI HappyGirl

Good luck – don’t think about it as an 8 week diet, just a new way of eating

there are several threads on eating out, mostly focusing on chain restaurants – the search box is in the top right hand corner to find them`

The family dinner – are you cooking or someone else? If someone else, ask what the food will be – if carby, take some courgetti and zap them in the microwave to replace the carbs (and if you want to be even less trouble, they are pretty OK raw with most things)

school trip – pack a salad

Sunshine Girl – I always think Berwick looks amazing when I go though it on the train – every time I promise myself I will take a holiday there one day, but haven’t yet. Do have a fantastic time!

so – week 2 reeboot, was going well until this evening!

    Pros
    14k steps, 2 hours kayaking
I went to a lecture at an organisation where worked until a couple of years ago – reactions ranged from dropped jaws, polite “you look amazing”s to people simply not recognising me.
I wore a smaller bra that I bought a few years ago that still had the label on – so from size 42 getting a bit tight pre BSD to a 38 fitting well
The smaller clothes that I bought online and collected from Debenhams on the way home all fit – size 16

    BUT
couple of glasses of wine, canapes
    – I did stick mainly to parmesan lollipops and olives though πŸ™‚

Also – subject of the lecture was fascinating – the future of digital learning
checkout https://www.futurelearn.com/ for a range of free online degree level study courses – quirky but interesting range of subjects.

lots in common here. 163cm, weight 13stone at start, nearly 70, also live in West Sussex, lost 25lb so far after 11 weeks (but 4 of those weeks have been working away ftom home). Can just get on some of my old size 14 clothes (yippee).

Best thing today was that I had some news which was very stressful but I didn’t reach for the bread for marmite sandwiches – my previous go to stress reliever. I didn’t even think about it. If this diet has conquered my comfort eating then that makes me feel very happy.

    Hello Everyone
I went out and bought a weighing scales, such is my commitment to losing weight.
I might get around to unwrapping it next week for I never thought such a small and insignificant machine could scare me so much!!!
Seriously though, I haven’t had dinner because I will weigh myself in the morning-I am nervous.
One small step for most normal people but I feel threatened. I will now have to face up to reality and do something. This diet will have to last the full 8 weeks. I can’t give up and revert to behaving myself and being naughty at the same time.
What do you do when you have an occasion you have to go to?
    Do you break out?
I have to travel away on a school excursion where we have a sleepover. There is a set menu which is child friendly, you know yourselves, pasta, chips, etc.
We also have a very special family dinner coming up too.
What advice would you give me?
My gut says just go with the flow, enjoy the craic and hop up on the wagon the day after.
But that’s difficult. Once a diet is broken, it’s hard to restart. Maybe my brand new shiny weighing scales can help me!!
    How have you all coped?
    Or am I being dramatic?
    Cheers

Hi JulesMaigret – my friend Ann, who made it for me at the weekend, said she didn’t use nearly as much oil, but hadn’t measured how much, we certainly didn’t need to drain off excess oil, nor did the remaining portion that we stuck in the freezer the next morning look particularly oily, but baking the aubergine sounds like a great idea, will definitely try that – probably easier too.

Verano – I did like the pine nuts with it, but I love them anyway, so a bit biased. I made the same dish for lunch though, and forgot about the pine nuts until the end, and it was still really nice. the pine nuts add crunch, and an extra dimension to the flavour. I decorated the top with a couple of cherry tomatoes today; it looked like something you could serve happily to guests.

I bought a new spiraliser and it makes much more definitive curls than the tiny one, so that added to how nice it looked. I took a photo today, and asked the techhies if they can add it to the recipe. (I eat it on Sunday to see what it was like before I entered it here, hence no photo!) The thicker curls taste better too – the smaller ones tended to go too mushy if you weren’t really careful with cooking

  • Sunshine-girl – your average of 5.1 is really good – which means your hb1ac must be really good also. I am looking forward to hearing what it is at the end of November.

My hb1ac is being done at end of October – that will be an interesting appointment – I will let you know how it goes.

Hi πŸ˜€ I started on the 26th. Yes, me too, feeling overall pretty good. I had a major falling off the wagon on day 4 when I had friends round for dinner. All my planned willpower went out of the window, but I lost 5lbs in week 1, so happy with that.
I’m an emotional eater too, eat when happy, eat when sad etc etc. I have about 100 lbs + to shift, so I have a long way to go, but I’m hopeful that this way of living/eating will work for me.
Good day today, 2 large mushrooms filled with cottage cheese & lg tomatoe all baked in oven
Small portion of hummus with loads of veggie sticks, then tonight, slices of pork loin with cauli mash, corgette and broccoli. Just had a peppermint tea, used to not like, but I think it’s going to be my new best friend – tastes are changing for sure!
    Good luck & best wishes.

  • Hi all.

The problem is ‘where do you start’.

School – when I was is school (many many moons ago) we had cookery lessons but what did we make? Sponges, puddings, crumble etc. because these were not things that could easily be bought and were considered as treats. At home we ate healthy filling meals.

Doctors Surgery/Hospital – as previously mentioned dietary information between them is often contradictory. My OH and I found this out firsthand as information the surgery nurse gave us was totally different from that given by the hospital dietitian..

It’s a pity Hospitals could not run some sort of daytime/evening weekly meetings on the same lines as Weightwatchers/Slimmimgworld to get the message over about diet, whatever your medical problem is. BUT once again everyone has to be singing from the same sheet for it to be of any good.

I am lucky that no one in my family has diabetes but out of my OH 5 sibling 4 of them are pre or diabetic.

  • HI Apatch thanks, Recipie is on page 136 of 8 week blood sugar recipie book but basically marinated duck legs in soy sauce whilst oven was heating to 200 and then turned down to 160 and cooked for 1 hour turning regularly. Recipe is in the 8 week book and very very easy. Lettuce leave replace pancakes but allows hoisin sauce which for me is the best bit πŸ˜‹ Definitely worth a try !!
