Hello everyone, I’m new to the BSD.

I’ve previously lost a lot of weight doing 5:2, but thought I’d give BSD a go for a change! I’m 41 & would love to lose 31 pounds. I am a definite carb addict – bread & wine mainly so have gone cold turkey on both. I’m planning on staying alcohol free for the full eight weeks.

I’m on day 14 and have lost 13lbs so far … pretty happy with that!

Welcome to the forum phlebas and well done on the results so far, you have every right to be thrilled with it and it is more the 33% of you target loss too!

Keep doing what you have been doing and I’m sure we will be reading more great results from you soon.

    Thank you Sunny! ๐Ÿ™‚

Weighed this morning – another 2lbs making a total loss of 15lbs.

I’m keeping carbs to around 30g & definitely feel like I’m in ketosis. I was really hungry yesterday – managed to resist cheese on toast & had 25g of cheddar and an early night instead!

Only 2lbs to get into the next stone down.

Hi phlebas. I have also started BSD recently after doing 5:2 a couple of times. I don’t have a lot to lose, I seemed to be stuck at 11st 2lbs after doing the 5:2, and am aiming at 10 st. (5ft 7in, 62 years old). I record my calories on Calorie Count web site which I have been using for several years off and on, but they recommend low fat and ‘good’ carbs, so I am ignoring all that. What do other people use, I have seen mention of my fitness pal, is that a good one? I am toying with getting a fitness band, but not sure which would be best for me.

I have lost 4 lbs since 9th Sept which I am very pleased with. I think I need to concentrate on keeping carbs lower, have been around 70g per day, but managed to hit 58 yesterday! Got caught out by cashews – 6g in 20g of cashews! Going to change to almonds in future.

Welcome to phlebas and Norfolkgal – some great results from you!

I don’t know if my thread ‘Not too much to lose…’ (can’t quite remember the whole title, but you can find it using Search top right for my username and the title) might help. I posted on it again relatively recently.

I lost 26 lbs in just over the 8 weeks, starting at 10 stone 8 lbs and ending at 8 stone 10 lbs (aiming for first of all 9 stone 4 lbs, then 9 stone, then thought I’d give myself some wiggle room and got to 8 stone 10 lbs). More than 15% of my starting body weight. I’ve got a small frame and am 5’4″.

Also feel absolutely great, and can confirm that more than 4 weeks in from finishing and on maintenance am still at 8 stone 10 lbs this morning. And that was after a visit to relatives yesterday which involved a glass of wine and some sourdough seeded rye bread (which I was pushed to try).

    Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚

    RESULT!
One week in, another pound down, total loss for week 5lbs!!!
I didn’t take any measurements before I started and now I wish I had, measurement around navel last night: 33.5 inches. I certainly feel I have lost around my middle. Today I am wearing an old favourite pair of peddle pushers that I haven’t been able to wear for about 2 years. I feel a wardrobe clean up coming on. :-))

Norfolkgal … that is a brilliant result …. well done!!!

I haven’t weighed today (I have a bit of a scale phobia!) but will tomorrow … it just occurred to me that I only have 16lbs to go of my initial 31lb. Wow!

I have completely lost my carb cravings (including wine!). I feel so much better calm, well rested, happier (think not drinking at all has a lot to do with that). I just had some baked salmon with a cheesy spinach thing for lunch (that will be my main meal). No craving for bread or spuds. Incredible, no way am I giving this up.

When I’ve got rid of this 31lbs my next goal will be another 20lbs.

Well done, keep it up. I am just looking in my books for a lunch recipe, I think it will be omelette with creamy mushrooms (using some soft goats cheese I have in the fridge). I was afraid I would crave bread, chips etc but I am finding it quite easy to resist at the moment. I may have a single oat cake as I do miss having something crunchy on the side.

Feeling quite energetic today, over 10,000 steps logged.

OH has decided he wants to join in so I am having to log his food as well as mine. He is 72, 13st 11lb, 5ft 8in, he does quite a lot of intensive rowing (single sculls) so is worried that 800 cals will not be enough – he is thinking of aiming for 1000 cals.

I have logged 1037 cals today, with 84 carbs, but we did have sausages and roasted veg for dinner, tasty though! Will try harder tomorrow.

I’ve been letting my carbs creep up, need to be more careful this week … I’ve got 13.5lbs to go & I’d really love to see 5lbs gone in the next week.

    List to motivate myself:
    – 70lbs to final absolute goal which I haven’t been since my first child was born (16 years ago!). That seems like a nice round number ๐Ÿ˜€
    – 5lbs to get into next weight bracket, then 6.5lbs to first goal, then 20lbs to next big goal.
    – my bras fit again
    – I see cheekbones & have lost a double chin!
    – I’ve lost some back fat
    – my tights fit
    – IBS is under control
    – I’m managing fine on the eating plan (need to watch for sneaky carbs though)

Going to have shakshuka & salad as my main meal today.

That’s an excellent list Phlebas, I have noticed today that I my bra needs to go to the next set of hooks, so I must have lost some back fat too. Also although I don’t have full blown IBS I feel my stomach has been better behaved this last week or so.

I had a good sort out in my wardrobes at the weekend and found several pairs of trousers which I can now wear, and filled a large bag for the charity shop with things that are either too big, or that I never wear. Very satisfying.

I found my step counter on Friday and have been reaching over 10000 steps per day over the weekend, but I don’t think I’ll be anywhere near that on workdays. Also had a short cycle ride yesterday, intend to try to build that up with time, very out of practice. I have been feeling quite energetic which is great.

Looking forward to my next weigh in on Friday.

I went over yesterday – impromptu meal with my parents & lots of wine! I was good at recording what I ate & drank though – 1750 calories & 25g of carbs <- that was mostly from the wine ๐Ÿ˜‰

Back on the wagon today. I’m doing a few days at 600 calories to limit the damage. Had cheese salad for lunch & that was my main meal, I just had a light tea of veggies & a few nuts. I’ll finish on 550 & 16g carbs.

Not going to weigh for a few day!

I can relate to a few things on yr list..my bras fit better..like NORFOLK GAL said, they hook up easier and sit better.
I’ m more cheekbone- y tho i noticed last night a small new crease on one cheek, quite ageing..a friends mum alwatys advises folk not to lose weight as they get older ” you dont see wrinkles on an inflated balloon!”
However BSDand 5:2 fasting seem to lead to shedding weight more on tum, hips, thighs, than on face, fortunately.

Hi there, have fallen from grace after loosing 1st a couple of years ago. Found your thread on Thursday and read the posts and thought this support group is just for me:) Love the Beach Boys!!!!! Wow the skill of those surfers! Sunday 25th; I shall weigh and measure and record. My key motivations are getting rid of the jelly belly, increase energy levels and improve my health stats for much later in life, as the NHS sure can’t afford us to be ill! I am without doubt a sugar junkie, like no other and my mature bod just doesn’t burn the cals like she used to ๐Ÿ™
Your results are epic – I can’t wait to join the results record! I have read the website, the book and made key notes to keep me on track. Just received the new recipe book produced by Michael, looks god on first skim. Have he next 2wks as a good window to get on track and in the groove.

    Hi phlebas,

Thanks for the post – the bread, baked potatoes and crumble – all faves of mine but soooo carb laden too – well done you with the smoked mackeral pate and veg – sounds yum.

A PT once advised me that the trick is to find things that you like to tempt you, helps focus on the foods for you.

Day 1 not too bad, am drinking either water or herbal teas (my preference) to distract myself from the usual conveyor belt of picking / eating all day long. Also keeping busy with things, again to distract myself. Did a 20mins RT DVD and then a 40mins jog, beautiful day – I looked like a tomato!!!

Have a great week everyone – can’t wait to weigh at the close to see the scales going in the right direction ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi there

A bit late posting as I have had a busy weekend. My daughter is visiting from Australia, not seen her for 2 years. She is very keen to join me on BSD, so my second convert already!

On Friday weigh-in was another 1lb down, so a total of 8lbs in just over 2 weeks. I have not really counted calories this weekend but have tried to keep the carbs down, will weigh again tomorrow.

Day 28 here – 4 weeks in. Life is pretty mental ATM, I’m not having much time to think about eating (which is good). I still haven’t weighed myself – I must get over my fear of the scales – but am back in my size 14 clothes & have lost 4 inches from my waist in the last 4 weeks.

Disappointing weigh in this morning, 1 lb up since the weekend. ๐Ÿ™ Daughter has been cooking so calories have not been counted and carbs have probably crept up. She is off visiting her dad over the next few days so intend to be stricter while she is away.

Hello. I started the 800 plan today. I am a huge eater and have 100 to lose. I am not diabetic as of yet but have high bp and have hypothyroidism. I have to admit I am starving today. I hope this will soon go away and I also have a huge headache. I am thinking the carb withdrawal as I was a HUGE carb aholic. Not sweets. Just breads. Pasta. Potatoes in any form… Oh and alcohol. I will admit I was a nightly wine drinker as well. Awesome to see so much success. Is it possible for me to lose 100 lbs on this plan. If love to lose a majority by Mid March for a vaca! Thanks and nice to meet you all!

Kristin … good for you to try and nip things in the bud … before you possibly get diabetes.

So far i have had my ups and downs with the 800 BSD plan … but i have stayed away from breads, chips/crisps, chocolate, cake … even sweet potato fries with chipotle dip!! A Kaiser roll and butter still sounds wonderful.
I need to stop buying liquor that i like. (p.s. i don’t like the tast of most liquor). The liquor store has moved to the mall where my gym/fitness club is located so i’m there quite often. I have to just nip THAT in the bud.

I have learned a number of lessons with the BSD plan …. and one is that if i get upset or stressed i do tend to eat to much AND turn to some alcohol. I am going to have to try mindfulness and meditation.

The BSD plan involves 3 points … the food, the exercise, and getting one’s head straight. It’s clear they all go together and that i have work to do on all three fronts!!

Hi Kristin, I have a similar thought to you regards prevention of diabetes. Also my sugar addiction and eating way too much. Like Shalimar, I tend to eat to emotionally support myself, whether I have had a particularly successful day or awful day!

I agree that it is the food & drink consumption, recording in a diary for one week usually brings it home; exercise is important and try to work towards daily routine, starting 2-3 times a week initially; your ‘little me’ ego will be chattering constantly in your head, to distract you, so yes meditation / mindfulness is useful, again daily is what to work towards. I have done meditation for about 3yrs now, mainly to deal with life’s stressors; it really does help, just 10-20mins.

Most importantly, be kind to yourself, you have had decades of honing these habits; they are not going to instantly disappear. Baby steps and recognise you are moving in the right direction. With the support of these forums and the nuggets of advice from Dr. Michael ‘s BSD; we will all get there.

It is good to have goals, as it states intention to yourself – have it written down so you can see it every day, with a feel good picture.
    Good luck!

okay I did weigh in the end – 20lbs in 28 days.

Weight loss is slowing a lot – from reading the forum plateaus seem quite common in week 4/5 … I’m going back to basics & making sure I weigh & record everything. To get to absolute final goal I need to lose another 67lbs; I want to have a really good few weeks now if I could lose another stone that would be brilliant.

I am finding the eating plan really easy – no carb cravings, no alcohol cravings, not really hungry … when I’ve gone over (twice) it is because we’ve been socialising. I’m eating lots of veggies, eggs, cheese, some fish, nuts & yogurt. Lots of mint tea!

    Hi Kristin
I too have (over) 100lbs to loose and it does seem really daunting, but I have got to the stage where i’ve just got to make this work. I am now on day 4 and so far it’s going ( much to my surprise ) really well. The scales this morning show a loss of 4 lbs, and my aching knees seem a bit better too !
I used to eat huge amounts of food, I love everything, and had got into the habit of 2-3 large glasses of wine every night. I didn’t think I could do this, but by planning, it’s very do-able. I drink loads of water, green tea, a low- cal dry ginger when craving something sweeter and a 39cal hot chocolate at night. I fill up with tons of salad or veg and make everything very tasty so you don’t feel deprived at mealtimes. Home made soups or even a bovril/oxo type drink between meals helps too. Good luck

Have lost no weight at all for 5 days – have been absolutely accurately recording everything. I’ve stuck to <30g of carbs & 800 calories everyday, no alcohol, lots of water, sleeping okay. No reason for not losing weight that I can see.

I will continue & weigh again in another few days. Hope everyone else is doing better!

    HI phlebas

    Sorry you are plateauing.

    HAVE YOU MEASURED??????

What is your waist doing? Are your clothes looser, your face a little thinner, does your belt do up on tighter holes?

Because – I’ve got a tape loop for this ๐Ÿ˜‰ – sometimes weight will stay the same whilst the visceral fat goes away and your shape changes! This happened to me, and happens to loads of people.

It is immensely frustrating and I don’t know why it is, because surely visceral fat has weight as well as subcutaneous fat????

But tell us how your MEASUREMENTS are doing!

    And don’t despair! ๐Ÿ™‚

Still, my trousers are looser and I feel much better but I wouldn’t have thought it would be possible to gain weight on 800 cals a day :o(

21 lbs in 5 weeks …………… How on earth can you NOT be motivated with those results …. that’s practically a miracle already. Pat yourself on the back …. give yourself a pampering ….. I know it’s all relative BUT i would be thrilled!

I think we often lack a little patience …. that’s a lot of weight loss in a short period of time for a body to get used to.
