Hi Rachel. Not sure where you are starting from but here’s a bit of my story

Started at 115.8kg 11th January , after 1st week following the menu plan in book 112.8kg, after 2nd week following plan 111kg, after 4 weeks following menu plan down to 108.9kg. Week 5 108.4kg, week 6 108.8kg, after 9 weeks 105.7kg (14th March). Weight today 10kg.
I think your 9lbs is pretty normal from what I have seen on here.

I had a few weeks of plateau but found when I increased the exercise and drank more water it started coming off again. I have not been sticking to it for a few months now due to various reasons. I will be getting back on it soon and my exercise will be increasing.

I have found it the best way of losing weight fairly easily and keeping it off. Weight has came off areas like the bat wings, that it didn’t come off from before. Also my stomach cannot tolerate as much food as it used to so portion sizes reduced.

I suggest you make a list of the foods you like to eat that are included in the menus and search for some recipes that suit better. I found the 5:2 recipe book quite useful.

If you really don’t like any of the food then you might struggle but I suggest you try things you think you may not like and you could be surprised. There are quite a few good recipes on this forum.

I love the no carb bircher. Apple with nut butter and seeds. Sardine dip. Courgetti Prawns, Spanish chorizo soup, fish in foil, turkey and lamb meatballs. There were some meals I didn’t like so I replaced with ones I did with same calorie count.

It does take a bit of getting used to but if you persevere, exercise and drink water, the weight will shift AND you will feel so much better. Onice the sugar is out of your system your taste buds will act differently too. I had to force a glass of wine down – it tasted very chemically and different. โ˜บ didn’t stop me mind โ˜บ

It’s not easy resisting the sugar, but when you can go to the shops and try on something in a smaller size you will feel better and motivated to get more off.

If all else fails read bill1954s posts – his story is so motivating.

I am glad I don’t have diabetes to contend with, it’s affects sound awful and following this new healthy eating reduces the chance of getting it I hope!

Stick with it and you’ll get the results. Keep logging in here, you will get great advice and lots of genuine support.

Good luck, keep us posted.๐Ÿ˜† Jackie

your fasting readings can be notoriously erratic due to the dawn effect and 6.9 isn’t bad.
Try testing just before dinner and see what that says.
I started seeing a drop in the first week, dropped a med after week 4, and now I’m med free.

Eeureka . Re Eatwell plate. Didn’t Michael Mosley mention that in a talk he gave, noting it doesn’t reflect this later thinking? probably saw it on the video he has added on his blog on this website. I still see ‘trusted’ government advice on the drinking of 8 glasses of water per day which has been discredited for some while now. Pinch of salt and watchfulness methinks.

I have enjoyed your post and am keen to follow your results, i am a believer in research based work but all research can be flawed (that is what I tell myself when i am hungry ha ha ) but so many can not be wrong, can they? I am feeling better in my headspace but find menu planning challenging as I eat a lot in volume so a real learning curve.
I am seeing my gp soon and want some facts to take with me so here goes. Thank you Collie

regret not spotting this thread earlier. My attempt was a disaster too. Flat pancakes which stuck to the parchment paper and didn’t taste very good. Looking at other posts I will try to forgo baking for the 8 weeks as so far just created lots of washing up and me looking for a biscuit or cake!! ( I haven’t got any ) Lesson learned.

Could be nice to go with curry – not been brave enough to try cauliflower rice yet lol.

    Many thanks

Hi I am not diagnosed diabetic but am suspicious I am pre diabetic. My fasting morning BS 6.9mmol/l. (14hr fast). At what point in the bsd800 have people noticed their fasting sugars to reduce. I appreciate we are all individuals and have our own diet interpretation, just wondered what a rough estimate would be.
    Thanks

Hello everyone and well done to those who are doing so well.
Unfortunately I cannot report the same results, now on day 17 and although Ive lost 9lb, (nowhere near what I expected given how strict Ive been) I havent lost any inches and I still feel dreadful. Absolutely exhausted and drained, zero energy, SO irritable and still really hungry. (not enjoying the recipes on the whole)
I just dont know what to do, Ive still got loads of weight to lose but I dont know how I will get through another 6 weeks of feeling like this. Would be so grateful for a bit of advice please.

    Hey Izzy

Have saved your diary to favourites, what an inspiration you are! Love the foodie ideas, I’m going to try the mini quiches this weekend – where did you find the silicone quiche cups by the way?

The crustless scotch eggs sound tasty too, do you make them the traditional way with sausage meat?

I found a curried chicken recipe which is quite dry and might work well with lettuce wraps or as a pepper filler, so I’ll put that on the recipe board later.

Massive congratulations on your weight loss so far!!

It does not rise and fall but has done the job well, the built-in programs are not particularly appropriate for us here but as it is continuously adjustable from 1 kph to about 15 or so it is perfect and records time, distance and approx calories (no inputs for weight or anything) it does what it says and does it well.

    Hi Alger
You can do this. After the first few days you will experience the increased energy and wonder why you ever doubted yourself. The extra energy will come in handy with 3 children to care for. Maybe caring for the children will help you take care of the exercise component of the BSD (all of that racing around after them).
Busy mothers often put themselves last. Keep focused on the 3 principles of the BSD (the diet, exercise and mindfulness). The mindfulness section at the bottom of the forum front page can give you some tips (if you need them).
You can be the example that you want your children to model as they grow up. Eating healthy food, exercising and caring for your whole self.
Best wishes for your BSD journey.

Keeptrying, that is what you are doing. One day only you had a minor slip up. Get back on the wagon and all will be fine!!! We have all had a slip up somewhere along this journey. The beautiful thing about the blood sugar diet is that it is so easy to get back on board. So no guilt please!!!

You will be surprised how much sugar is in all cereals!! So forget them! Make yourself a nice big batch of coconut flour flatbreads ( recipe on this site) and freeze them so when you feel the munchies due to stress you can have one of those as a meal with a dollop of yogurt and a few strawberries. Even without any added sugar they taste sweet and should satisfy that need.

Switzerland has just made the guilt free chocolate brownies and said they meet her chocolate craving. Make a batch and freeze them for emergency situations when you feel like you will lose control – and like Bill says, just shout, we are all here for you ๐Ÿ™‚

Guilt free brownies – being a chocoholic from way back, the no chocolate thing has been difficult for me to harness. At times over the last 5 weeks I have had 200mls milk and 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder. Today it was all too much, so I went to the shops (15 km away) and bought the ingredients for the guilt free brownies (recipe from 8 week BSD book). I knew I needed portion control, so baked 16 in patty tins. I ate one. It was perfect. Totally satisfied my need for chocolate and tided me over until dinner. My palate has changed and the cocoa nibs, that I thought I wouldn’t enjoy, satisfied my need for chocolate.

Hi Bill, you can call me anything now I am an incredible shrinking man. When I was looking for a name for my business of aerial photography I found most of the names taken. I adopted Lancashire as my favourite county after North and East Yorkshire of course. Being a Walker by name and also by nature that was the easy bit. So pardoning the pronunciation; if you wanted an aerial photo there are the four stages, 1 Look! 2 Sky and 3 Walker 4 Photo. Of course I was a bit of a Star Wars fan in the 80’s and have been known to use “The Force” of willpower to achieve things, like the Fast800 for example. So, I still answer to anything and have been called all sorts of things over the years!

I was also a big gainer of stones when I stopped smoking about 15 years ago. 7 in total. I went from being a big lad at 15 stone to not looking at the scales when it went over 22 Stones. A couple of years on some antidepressant meds added to the weight piling on. Sedentary life style and a fondness for takeaways did their stuff.

On this diet I’m now coming up to a 5 stone loss. 2 to go.

I feel good in myself and empowered to deal with my health issue. Life is good. My mood is usually light and the effort/focus required here isn’t as big a deal as I remember coming off the fags.

Hi all, well its the end of week 7 following the BSD 800 fairly strictly and keeping daily carbs to below 40g. I started at 120.2 kg and weighed in this morning at 106.2 kg, a loss of 14kg (or about 2 and 1/2 stone). After a rapid loss start I’ve settled down to an average of 1.5 kg a week. Some of the issues that I continue to experience include cold fingers and toes and peeing often. I have read that this could be the effects of Ketosis and a rapid change from very high to relatively low carb intake. But these downsides are more than off set by the feelings of more energy, clearer mind and confidence.
The only other issue I have on this calorie restricted lifestyle is that I am finding it difficult to get enough fats into my meals and trying to keep to 800 cals a day. From all the research now available its clear how important natural fats are for the good health and weight loss. If any of you read the Diet Doctor site and the principles of the low carb high fat (LCHF) way of eating will have seen the impact this has on health and weight loss. And as I love all things buttery and creamy it seems like the diet from heaven.
I’m going to keep going on the BSD until I reach a 20% loss of starting weight and then look to the LCHF and intermittent fating as a way forward.
Keep up the great work everyone, your all inspiring.

Eating doesn’t solve problems and I bet you feel worse at this moment than you did reading that letter.

I guess I have the right name – although it should perhaps be keepfailing

I decided to start yesterday, and began by having scrambled eggs instead of cereal
that was ok, I guess, it certainly kept me feeling full
all went ok until the evening when I got in to find a letter that just tipped me over the edge – which is never very far away!
    so handfuls of biscuits later
then fish and salad which I hated
    then more biscuits
and feeling, knowing, it is pointless

trouble is I LIKE CEREAL and it works for me, and its quick, and its not even a sugary one, and I like milk
    and
well and I feel like a pathetic angry heap of …. today because everyone else manages it and so did I a month ago
and actually – hotter weather seldom helps because I really don’t much like salad

    ok
moans and rants out of the way, now I creep off and leave you in peace!! for now at least ๐Ÿ™‚

hello everyone, I have not posted in this thread before as I was “doing my own thing” given that I counted calories and sugar but nothing else. I cut out my staples; bread, cereals, potatoes and most of the milks and cheeses. I carried it on for 10 weeks and changed my eating style permanently. 2 weeks ago I stopped counting calories and 1 week ago I stopped weighing daily. Today near the end of the 12th week I am still losing slowly – down 17.6 kg / 38.6 pounds. I hope you all have great success too – most will. I still need to do more exercise and muscle toning but at least it is nearly summer and not winter. For the purists on here who argue about replicating Prof Taylor’s work and so on, it is just a case of spreading the common sense principles of healthy eating which we knew most of already. As somebody on these forums succinctly put it – if you don’t want to get fat then don’t eat white food. I didn’t, I’m not any more and should never be again, because with a bit of intermittent fasting I can dissolve away excess fat. My BMI is now 25.7 so it appears that I may get to 25 after all without much more effort. Perhaps “common sense” as we like to call it is not so common after all?

Since then I have felt great although I had a serious cold for about 6 hours yesterday but even that vanished with lots of water and vitamin C.

    Hi,
I am still suprised that I didn’t give up after two weeks which is my normal pattern.
It is a crazy way of doing things, but when you think about it…….
If you don’t put it in your mouth , it won’t go on your hips. Duh!!
    I get the picture now.

I think on Saturday I will put one blog in the section called … After eight weeks. Just to show my face.

I think as I still have a long way to go, I will continue for a little while longer, then change to the 5:2 diet.
If anyone meets up with doctor Michael Mosley, please give him a hug from me. He will never realise what gifts he has given me just by writing this book, making this website at the right time for me.

If you are reading this message and not sure you have the will power to do this diet, please read all my blogs as I have had ups and downs. No one has told me I was a failure putting weight back on, they held my hand, gave me encouragement, and got me going again.
The nicest thing is ,… You all have laughed with me but never at me.

Oh and the best advice for newbies, beware of the dollop of yoghurt… You will have to read my early blogs to understand the daftness behind that episode.
    Love Lucia
