3 st 11.75lbs down….sooo close to that 4 st. line..well there is always next week.
    How good is this.
We are going on hol to Herefordshire at the end of next week and I know I’ll be straying from the wagon…how far is the question. I haven’t fallen off in the last 16 weeks and am a bit worried about how hard it will be to get back on the straight and narrow. Maybe I’ll find I don’t enjoy the carbs as much as I used to, but must admit atm looking forwards to crackers and cheese, crisps and chips with my dinner, (not all at once) Cider with a pub lunch hmmm.
Hoping I try each once and don’t enjoy too much.

Hi everyone – yes I am still here – plodding along! Had a plateau for 3 weeks which was a bit discouraging and that is usually the point where I give up with diets but was determined to keep going and had a look at what I might have been doing wrong (probably taking the eating fat thing a bit too far). Anyway, finally I have lost 3lbs this week (now into my 17th week) and (big TA DAH) I am now out of the obese category and into the overweight category which is a big boost – have lost 2 stone 2 lbs so far. Saw my doctor last week and she was really pleased that I was doing something about my weight and agreed that low carbs was the way to go. She said I should wait until my hospital appointment (in October) about reducing my medication but she thought they would probably do that if I carry on doing what I’m doing. Best of luck to all of you and don’t worry when you have a few weeks when nothing happens – it will start going down again!

    Hi fi

Congratulation on becoming ‘overweight’ I reached this milestone two weeks ago which was a big boost. I’m on week 20 and last week I went back to writing down everything I eat to check my portions and values and I found that I wasn’t eating enough on some days!! My weight has slowed down but I’m still losing every week. Let’s hope we can get through the ‘overweight’ and get to the normal BMI with out to many headaches!!

Enjoy you two weeks football free!!

    Hi

Thanks everyone – it is a big milestone to get out of the obese category and it has given me a big lift. I tend to be quite strict with the diet Monday – Wednesday which are the days I work and then I am more flexible the rest of the week. I buy the low GI bread from Lidl and have that as a bit of a treat sometimes (when I crave a bit of toast and marmalade !). Yes, no footie and not having to watch my husband eating Chinese take-away will be good.

    Hi Smith

Great result😃 I’m in week 24 now, on holiday in Italy. Up to the day I left on holiday I’d lost 62 pounds.

Staying with friends and visiting folk is interesting now I’m on the 800 BSD. I’ve managed to stay low carb though. And tried to be careful with portion sizes. Back home late Friday night so will post results as usual on Saturday.

Folk I’ve been eating with have asked how much I’ve lost and about what I can eat. Strange to be in Italy and not eating pasta, pizza, ice cream etc. One trattoria we ate in, the only main course I could eat was sliced pork in a cream sauce (scraped off most of the sauce). But the antipasti are great – sliced meats and cheese. Would really do me as a main course. Another trattoria, they specialised in horse meat😱 I had lamb😃

Hello all, Did the eight weeks from 1 March with 15 kg weight loss. New jeans, leggings. Yea! Now comes the tough part. Past month weight has plateaued. Been eating low carbs, no sugar, back to one glass red wine, probably a bit too many nights. Now Blood sugar has gone up this morning to 7.7 (Aus) after weeks in the 5’s and dropping nighttime Metformin (with doctor’s approval). Must be the paleo apple cinnamon cake I made yesterday. Had a bit of honey.
How do people go with the 5:2? I think we (hubby very helpful) must start portion weighing and calorie counting again. Winter here in Aus now and fewer salads!
    Others in the same boat?
I was hoping to get off of BS meds completely, but won’t go back for next blood test until my readings are down again for a while!
    Cheers, g

    Hi GeorgiaRose
I think you answered your own questions, wine and cake. Don’t make them the bad guys, remember our thinking has to change… moderate, enjoy them, but less often. The success so far is the driver, it is possible to feel this good relativity easily. I am not diabetic but Thyroid issues kept me overweight and under powered for years, BSD has seen to that! I love it. This is week 13 for me and I am really cruising so intend to stay on a few more weeks, then do the 5:2. I am thinking I may even try a 2:5, two of anything, within reason, then 5 of the 800cal, then gradually convert to 5:2. MM does 6:1 I hear. What ever works, at least we now have options.

I am in the South Island in NZ, winter is a treat, snow on the alps, brisk walks. Soup has replaced salad. I have bought two fast diet cook books, great ideas in them, all the counting done too.

Jeggings is a new word around here, not just jeggings I remind all who will hear, SIZE 12 jeggings. Who cares if I am mutton and they are designed for lamb!

Here’s to your 5 BS results returning. 🙂
Australians all let us rejoice….I hold both passports.

Hi everyone. I’ve just passed week 16 and thought I should log back in for more inspiration. I started 14 Feb 2016 and my journey so far has been bumpy but still relatively successful. I’m no where near as consistent as many of you. I started at 156.5kg (24.6 stones) and am now down to 137.2kg (or 21.6 stones) [I’m deliberately ignoring that the scales jumped up 3kg yesterday!!! Read more on that below]. I have a long long journey before I could be considered overweight!! My congratulations to those of you that have made that transition – you must feel amazing!

I’ve been reading some of the posts and have been heartened by the similarities in our stories. Some people say I look amazing, some pretend not to notice (or perhaps just really don’t notice) and one woman at work keeps talking about how pretty my eyes are (not sure if that’s a euphemism or if she’s only just noticed them now that they’re not so hooded). Yes – my underwear is baggy, and for some reason (can someone please explain) keeps crawling up my bum!! My lovely work clothes are getting too big, but I don’t want to get more just yet. I cannot buy clothes here in HK so I have to get them tailor made which is just too expensive if I am only going to fit them for a few months. I did buy some clothes off the internet recently – I’m looking ahead and so have ordered size 20 for Christmas!!

And in a way, that’s a little depressing as well. I have calculated that even once I have been on this diet for a year, I’ll still only be about two thirds through my journey. But, at least I’m on the journey (about a quarter of the way there) which is better that being at the beginning – so I choose to look on the bright side!!

I mentioned that my road has been a bit bumpy. I tend to stick to the diet Monday to Friday and then have a few meals where I’m a bit less strict on the weekend…… And one night I’m permitted alcohol too. I also travel a lot for work, and that can be tricky. If I come back with no weight gain then I am happy!! So far it’s worked. But where I struggle is with discipline when I eat out lately. I was celebrating with my husband for his Birthday on Monday and found myself eating crisps over cocktails (I had to ask the waiter not to refill the bowl after the third time), the bread they bring to the table in restaurants (two slices no less) and then ordering a chocolate dessert (which I justified on the basis that the book suggests that chocolate has loads of antioxidants)!!!

But I am determined to get to the goal at the end of the journey. I was inspired by CaptainLynne describing how people would no longer categorise her as fat. That would be nice. Like Lynne, I do a lot of presenting for work and yes there are those awful photos that get posted at work!!! It will be nice not to be worried about the photos. It will be nice not to be worried about bus/train/aeroplane seats (even Business Class was getting a bit tight when I was at 156kg) and not to be worried about finding a parking space where I know I can open the car door…..but the absolute best thing will be to go unnoticed…

So – that’s me. Hi everyone – I’m very pleased to be a part of the “over the 16 week line” club!

    Cheers, V

PS It’s my birthday today, so I’m going to try harder to resist the bread basket and dessert at dinner tonight!

Thanks, Nettle, for your considered response. South Island is a great place. Our first grandchild is a Kiwi, so we have lots of trips to N!. (Returning in August)
Hubby is the soupmeister, so soups are definitely on the menu. Also, lots of kumara as they took over the garden this year.
Just have to get back on the low cal wagon, complete with a good mineral water for special drinks instead of the Martinborough pinots!
And I love dressing like a lamb. Haven’t been able to do it for so long!!
Beetroot and feta salad tonite as the sun has come out after all the terrible storms.
And may God defend size 12 New Zealanders 🙂 Good luck with the thyroid. I had it briefly, but seemed to cure itself.

    Hi folks

I haven’t posted for a while, and I was sure there was a “19 week and over” thread! I can’t find it if there was one, so I am on here for a few more weeks. I’m on week 19 and have lost 4 stone 4 lbs – a nice round 60 pounds. Oh and I’m now merely overweight and no longer obese!

I feel really good. I had to get my car back from the garage today, and as rain was expected I walked briskly for the 1.2 miles to the garage. It took about 20 minutes and I was as fresh when I arrived as when I started. I know it’s not very far, but previous to going on the plan I’d have been hot and really puffed doing that trip.

I’m getting baggy skin now in various places, and though I am hopeful some of it will tighten up over time, as I’m older (64) I may be stuck with it, older skin being less elastic.

My younger son asked me an interesting question the other day – what kind of clothes did I think I would be buying now. I realised I have no idea. I have spent so many decades wearing what I could get into, and choosing the style I looked least awful in, that now I am approaching the time I can walk into any high street shop, I can try styles and colours I would not have even considered before. I have to say I am quite excited about it – and I am someone who has always declared they have no interest in clothes!

I was originally aiming to lose 5 stone, but I may consider one more after that. I would plan to increase my calories a little for the sixth stone, as I need to find my maintenance level. This weight loss journey remains the most extraordinary thing I have ever done!

Congratulations on your results so far.

I’ve just completed week 26 and have lost 68 pounds so far, but need to lose about another 20 – 23 pounds. Or that’s what the medics have always said! I’m a couple of years older than you.

Fantastic achievement to have lost over 4 stones…..huge well done.
Week 20 for me and only 4lbs off being a so-called ‘healthy weight’!
I’m 63 and have lost about two and a half stone in my 20 weeks.
Love being a size 14 in clothes……not been this size for well over 20 years. It’s great to take ‘normal’ size clothes into the changing rooms and find they fit easily. So thrilled that I indulgently bought myself a leather rock-chick style jacket….. Totally wicked!!!!
Funny how doing something so self-indulgent feels so bad.
So go on…… be brave and enjoy wearing non-anonymous, non-baggy and non -bland clothing. (excuse grammar!!!!)

All those years at Slimming world and Weight Watchers eating jacket potato and pasta, done me no good at all.

Hi To women of a certain age.
    Hi Josie

I am fairly sure that over the years I have paid for Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig’s retirement funds.

I am 63 but after the success of these past few months I am feeling decades younger. Caramba we could hit the town together I bought some Jeggings, not just skin tight Jeggings but size 12 Jeggings as I like to remind the nearest and dearest. I had a moment of thinking can I leave the house in these….I had to to buy the boots to go with them! That leather jacket sounds like the business. 😃 When I bought new jeans on sale last week I bought a 14 for now and a 12 for….soon. They do up but would be standing only jeans and perhaps a canister of oxygen nearby just in case.

Dazzling, you too will find fun in fashion, the choices are great. What a great question for your son to ask.

Thanks as ever to the ongoing inspiration of our Captain Lynne.
    N.

PS: I am 64 in September. I had a moment yesterday when I thought how cool it would be to weigh the same in kgs by then.
68kg is my BMI target, near is as good maybe. Not far to go for that then I can wait for age to catch up.

You are off to a good start josie53, well done. Many posters have commented that it feels easier to do than they expected. It’s because the protein and fats keep you feeling full for longer than if you were eating carbs.

I started off following the plan and the recipes, but soon found that the calorie counts on most of the recipes weren’t accurate. Some of them were out by a huge margin. So I re-calculated every recipe I was using to be sure I knew how many calories I was eating each day. Some people however, have followed the recipes as printed, on the basis that even if the counts were wrong, they were still eating less than before, so should lose weight. It’s up to you really.

The book was designed as a plan for 8 weeks, but after a few more weeks on it I felt I needed more variety, so I started experimenting with different recipes, using the principles in the book. I also bought a couple of books on Mediterranean cookery to give me more ideas.

I am currently eating between 825 and 850 calories daily and losing between 2 and 4 pounds a week. I don’t miss the bready, biscuity carbs at all, although I am looking forward to being able to add a few more starchy vegetables to my meals when I reach my target weight. I’ve not decided what that will be – just keeping on keeping on for now!

    Hello Nettle

Who would have thought we would be re-designing ourselves in our 60s!

I had to look jeggings up! Not sure about them for me, but in a few months, who knows? It’s going to take while to change my mindset, something I hadn’t thought about until I started thinking about new styles of clothes. But change is good for us, so that’s OK.

I am down to a size 10 — I can wear a mini-skirt (well, just ignore the wobbly knee stuff). I was 66 on Monday, and today my total weight loss to date (after 27 weeks) is 68 pounds😃 I’ve now lost 30% of my starting weight😱

Californiagirl – I used to love mini skirts, they were the only ones I didn’t need to shorten LOL.

I’m not sure about jeggings either. Or jeans. I like cotton casual trousers – more like chinos. Being short (5ft 2ins) I tend to look better in more fitted clothes. 😱 Now it’s definitely no more elasticated waistbands on trousers or skirts.

What I do hope to find later this year is some nice boots, higher than the ankle boots I’ve always had to wear in the past. Even extra-wide leg wellingtons were really tight😱

    Hi all,
I haven’t been on the forum properly for a while, just dipping in here and there, I have had a health problem for a few weeks, a ‘virus’ which refused to leave me! Then a back problem that I have had for over forty years, then if that wasn’t enough to cope with I have had a bout of tummy trouble, I do have diverticular trouble, which this problem isn’t, however it is similar! So because of all that my weight and eating has been all over the place, losing one week then putting it on the next! Finally went to doctor, he was only helpful as far as my back was concerned! More nerve tablets to deaden the pain in back and both legs! As to the ‘virus’ and tummy trouble, he says It is
connected! And of course as its a virus I just have to wait till it goes, so Im in a quandary? I am really struggling with the way I feel, so I have been depressed, ( this happens to me whenever I can’t work out what to do) I have not eaten any bread, pasta, rice, I have had a chip here and there, although didn’t have more than one as I didn’t like the taste, so why did I even taste one?
We have had birthdays, Father’s Day, big family gatherings, granddaughters first communion weekend, then this weekend our church garden party, all this one on top of the other from 14 May to now! So that has meant foods I normally would have eaten before bsd! I have found it more difficult than normal with feeling so under the weather, and I’m sorry to say I have fallen off the wagon on a few occasions, which has lead to the yo yo feelings too!
I am trying to get ‘back on the horse’ and therefore carry on, I just needed to offload on here how I felt, I WILL get there it’s a case of when not if.
I am being gentle with myself, (trying) to do mindfulness too, trying to not feel guilty it only makes me feel more guilty and eat all the wrong stuff, mainly with me chocolate is my nemesis!
So, sorry for my rant, I hope it makes me feel better!

Not been a stranger to that myself in the past. Try – and I know it’s hard – not to feel guilt and beat yourself up for your transgressions, as it just makes you feel worse and makes you more likely to nibble on things you shouldn’t.

    Hi Lynne,

I have given my health issue a lot of thought since we ‘spoke’ yesterday, our big family weekend was great, however me and two of our daughter had a bit of a tummy upset, ( too many hands touching the food that was prepared possibly?) anyway they recovered quickly, whereas I am still feeling it, so I am thinking because I am already struggling with my compromised health, the tummy problem is linked In as much as it is struggling to recover from two things!
Now I have worked that out! I can work on getting a healthy gut and back on track! After every meal I get griping pains for a while so think it might be useful for me to do what I do when I get a Diverticular episode.
Great, I feel like I have climbed a mountain in my head to get to that! So instead of worrying silently, I must share, so that I get the right advice! Thank you Lynne, it’s taken me a while but thanks to you, Imogen and sunnyB I have got there!

Thank you for thinking of me! It’s appreciated.
I hope you are doing well and losing too? Good luck anyway.

Hey – glad that you are having a better day, let’s hope the only way is up from here. Have had a blip today, as the scales showed a 0.8lb gain this morning. Not a great way to kick the day off, but I know of course it’s probably just a blip. Struggling a little today though, even though I’m hopeful of weighing in at the end of the week on Sunday with an overall loss.
Anyway, have a good w/e. Look forward to news next week.

What’s the old saying, a pint of pure water weighs a pound and quarter. Could be as simple as the timings of when you last went to the loo that makes that difference!

My weigh in is always the same. Wake up, go to the loo, weight myself in my pants! This is before I have anything to eat or drink.

Oh Timmy, wish it was so, but I follow the same regime myself – up, in the loo, and then weigh myself sans garments. Only difference is a ketostick check while I’m in the loo. So I can’t pass this off as anything other than being 0.8lb heavier than I was on Thursday morning.

I can’t do mine sans garments as my scales are in the utility room and I think I’d scare my children when they were eating their breakfast!!

Keep at it, that 0.8 will be gone in a jiffy.

    Good morning fellow over 16ers!
    Finally got here!
Oh, the last three weeks have been VERY trying and was really doubting the scales would go any further down (mental image here….me picking up scales and shaking them to see if they were faulty/rattling etc) but in reality they were in fine condition. A few more days later and hey presto a tiny bit more off.
So my official weight is now10 stone 11 and a quarter pound. I started at 15 stone. Hopefully my maths is correct and that makes it a 26% of starting bodyweight loss.
My original goal was to get within the green area of the healthy BMI range but alas am still 5 and a quarter pounds away from the top end of it. I feel strong enough to do another week at a time until I get there.
Off to do a celebratory hoola hoop motion using my old belt
