http://naturalsociety.com/how-pringles-are-made-potato-chip/ I don’t like how Pringles are additive. I no longer buy them. Are they in fact a food anyone would want to eat?

Oh yes, Flower55, that is your carb addiction speaking! It’s a very common feeling, and is a really good sign that you are taking control and telling your addiction where to get off! It’s not going to control you any more.
Keep on with the fruit teas and do stick with it – it gets better soon!
Good luck!
-
Day 5 & doing ok but today I’m feeling shaky at times. I’m drinking plenty of water & fruit teas which helps with hunger pangs. Has anyone else experienced the shakes….like you wanna eat something sweet or stodgy to get rid of it?
-
if you are looking at measures like tbsp you need to make sure you are specific as well. For almonds are they whole, flaked, ground etc. a tbsp of ground almonds would be more than a tbsp of whole.
-
in the book it does say that the success rate is great but not 100%, and those who don’t reverse are usually people who have been type 2 for a long time prior to using BSD.
My opinion for you for what it’s worth is that this is working for you. It might not cure you 100% but from what you have said it will still have helped to make your type 2 more manageable, and minimised any risks you have because of it.
Are you overweight or approaching a healthy weight? If you are still overweight I would say to continue and see what happens as you lose more weight. If you are nearing or already at a healthy weight and turn out to not be cured of your type 2, I would still stick with the BSD way of life as it will help to control your type 2 better than going back to carbs. So to answer your question as to where to go? here, stay here.
Fasting bloods can also be tricksy. I think it was Bill who said he doesn’t care about them as they can go up and down due to the dawn phenomenon. He goes by his other BS readings through the day – apologies if my memory is crap and it wasn’t Bill.

No Venusflytrap, my house is a house of marmite lovers. Me, my wife and all kids absolutely love it. We get through it like it’s going out of fashion. In fact I think all of my siblings and their families all love it, as do all of my wife’s siblings families, although some of them take it too far and have marmite and marmalade sandwiches.
-
Hi Timmy, you’re not dissing the Marmites are you? You know the love it or hate it thing? Well us addicts are very protective of our treat. So watch out! —- And now I’ve read your post properly and realised you’re one of us! Just finishing a jar of Sainsbury’s own brand yeast spread. As a Marmite fan, won’t be going there again. And the jar lasted ages, because no one else would eat it. And I was brought up by someone who lived through rationing, so I cannot throw food away. So still eating the damn stuff months later because I have to forget I don’t like it before I have some again! I’ll join your gang if we are going to do over the Vegemites. I could do with an antipodean holiday. I’ll bring the jars of the real stuff!

Is it definitely type 2? I read something the other day about someone that had been diagnosed as type 2, but was actually late onset type one.
Might even have been MM’s BSD book – not sureHere’s an article – http://www.diabetesforecast.org/2015/sep-oct/diagnosing-type-1-in-adults.html?
Please note, I have no specialist knowledge – but it might be something to consider
-
someone else commented on that a couple of weeks ago with a different product.
I think different yoghurt brands do vary – someone commented that Fage is lower carb than most. With the almonds, are they (or the nutrition info your looking at) processed or coated in any way?
Failing that, just check on several sites and see what seems probably, based on the most common data from the sample. With online databases, remember that most database entries will be added by users, often without much checking going on.
I selected tomatoes on myfitnesspal this morning, which came up as no carbs at all – I think whoever made the database entry was counting calories and fat, but not carbs, so didn’t bother entering them. There is an option to report incorrect nutritional info, and amend it. -
There are lots of wonderful stories here about blood sugars coming down, hb1ac tests coming up as normal. Are there any people that have been unsuccessful?
I’m finishing week 6 and I have lost 10% and my sugars are down also but my fasting bloods are still too high and I am starting to worry.
Am I the only one? And where to if it’s not reversed?
-
OzVeggy, I suppose the one benefit of not eating bread is not having anything to spread that disgusting vegemite on! 😉
Marmite all the way!
-
thanks Timmy
that should be enough to put me off of Pringles and Hula Hoops for ever.
The residual waste from making crisps. Lovely -
Izzy – your post reminded me of a funny Austrian Doctor that I used to have, many years ago.
She was shorter than me, a similar build – poss a size 16 or 18.
I was overweight then, but less so than now, but also quite muscly as I did lots of weights. I didn’t go to the GP often, but every time I saw her, she insisted on weighting me, and pronouncing crossly “If I weighed as much as you do I would be very very fat”.
Made me laugh every time!Health professionals are still human – I’m amazed at how many smoke! And drink excessively – no automatic passport!
I used to have a brilliant Dentist – I also knew her on a social level, and used to try and schedule appointments to avoid Mondays when she might be hung over & not fully recovered from any coke excesses at the weekend.
I also had a very slim nutritionist – she was good-ish, I lost weight, but over the series of appointments I had with her, there was only one food that she ever expressed a liking for – one evening she got really excited that purple sprouting broccoli was about to come into season. On reflection at the time I wondered if she had issues with anorexia – but to engage yourself with food as a career when you don’t actually like it – Weird!
-
Thanks for this, I also just looked up calories in almonds and 1 tbsp ranges from
63 calories to 130 I am so confused!
I don’t see how this recipe can only have 100 calories regardless of brand difference?
It’s extra annoying as its delicious! -
I’m the same so I have a low carb low cal shake and that see’s me through till lunch.
-
So got some ketostix and after 3 days of eating around 30-35g carbs the stick finally went pink yay! but my weight still isnt shifting arrgghh! I think I’m frustrated more becuase I’m hovering around 70.7 -70.4kg and I so want to smash through 70kg on the scales. That will also be my 10kg lost, I know this last 6kg is going to be tough so Im sticking to everything without tempation and I know it will happen soon. It has to! Thanks for being there guys, this would be hard and lonely without your posts and support.

I think a buffet thing would probably be the most problematic. Too much pastry stuff (which is probably what would be challenging for me). For dinner out there is always the chunk of protein and a big salad/veg option 😀
Have a lovely night out, Epspecially. All the chatting with friends will help anyway.
Izzy, that granola does look yummy, I’d have problems with portion control maybe. Although I had pistachios last night and managed to just eat 30g so that’s good
Might try making some flax/sunflower seed crackers today
-
I’ve been giving my husband’s aunt chocolates as presents for years as she is well known as a chocoholic. Tomorrow I’m giving her a potted cyclamen instead!
-
I find it weird that chicken seems to spike me sometimes, yes – healthy chicken lol. I’m thinking that maybe I should only be eating organic as it’s possibly the hormones and other junk they treat them with – even though I buy free-range as much as possible.
Have had lots of plateaus, was a bit obsessive about weighing myself to begin with but it’s probably counter productive.
All losses are good though 😀

Yuk that really is gross. It funny but I worry about what is in my dogs food they eat raw meat responsibly sourced !! Yet I have been stuffing rubbish, where does this rubbish stop. I remember jamie Oliver ( love him or hate him) going on about turkey twirzzlers and kids is any one big enough to take on the giants of the food industry. Sadly the food is relatively cheap in monetary terms , it would be good to think that a thinking democratic country could use it intelligence to the better . Heres hoping Im a glass half full person.
On another note Holland and Barrett (UK) have nuts on offer . -
Lol. Funnily enough thinking of a flat belly was what stopped me in the end. That and remembering seeing a program about how Hoola Hoops were made. I think Hoola Hoops and Pringles are made using pretty much the same process, which is a by-product of making crisps.
When they wash/boil the potatoes for crisp manufacture, loads of the starch comes out into the water. And whist the actual potatoes go off to become crisps, some clever clogs thought it would be a good idea to boil down the water and retrieve the starch. Then Hoola Hoops were born! They are basically nothing but potato starch, exactly the thing we are trying to avoid!!
-
well done for not eating them Timmy! think ahead to the sixpack…
-
I feel the same Happy in the way that you feel that this time… we can really do it , it’s great!
Your idea of having extra weeks off in the summer sounds great you should definitely do that if you can, enjoy life 🙂
it’s nice that most of your clients are noticing, funny about the doctor one you would think they should be trained to notice the details!

It’s not just the supermarket that has the temptation either, it’s all over my bloomin house! For reasons known only to her, my wife bought 2 tubes of pringles for the kids yesterday. It took all the willpower I could muster not to shove one in my face! In the end I had to hide them from view.
Although she did admit that after seeing the kids with all the weird white powder that came off them all over their lips, it is the last time she is going to buy them! Thanks god for that.
-
it will depend on the yoghurt maybe? I just tried it in my fitbit app and 80g of fage total is coming up at 77 calories.
-
As well as the health benefits from changing the way I shop, I’ve also seen a reduction in the bill! I now only shop once a week – the exception being running out of fresh strawberries which I’ve had to buy more of mid-week. I still buy a few treats for the family but have come to the conclusion that it was me all along eating us out of house and home!!! (Wk 14 and weigh in now starts with an 11!)
-
that’s ok it was my own reading of the post that made me think it seemed harsh not anything you said lol. Definitely no harm intended or done by either of us I hope 🙂
Glad you like the recipes, I love experimenting and trying new things.
I’ve been guilty of giving the gift of chocolates to people in the past as well for various things without thinking of the fact they may have been trying to avoid such things. A fruit basket may make a nicer gift to consider in the future but even that has it’s flaws!
-
Oh No Izzy you were defo not harsh or judgemental I was trying not to be harsh by seeming ungrateful for the presents . OOPs no harm intended love your posts . Your recipe post help me enormously xxx

Hi everyone,
I’m on day 2 of the 800 calories a day and I just entered the blueberry and green tea shake into my calorie counter but 2 tablespoons of full fat Greek yoghurt is coming in at 103 calories whereas the whole thing is supposed to be 100 calories.
Can anyone advise? The Internet is saying 1 tbsp yoghurt weighs 40g. -
It is smelling amazing! after 45 mins it still seems too moist though so I’ve popped it back in. Some of the recipe comments do point to people baking it longer to get the drier consistency of granola so I’ll play it by ear.
I hope you can stay on track at your friends party, there may be nibbles like chunks of cheese and that sort of thing that would be ok. Alcohol seems the main thing stay away from that lol.
-
not at all I don’t think anyone ungrateful. My dietician could have had other health issues too, it isn’t like she would tell a patient that sort of thing. I wasn’t meaning to be so judgmental my post came across as harsh.

please share it is the reason i follow the forum it helps inspire me and hearing stories and struggles is beneficial. Everyone need a hand at time either to lead or guide wether it is by digital or in person. Some lose all the time some plateau ( thats me ) it helps to hear the variety so you can identify and keep going in a world desiring you to partake of carbs and sugar .xx -
Hi
Shamanic
I always thought we had to have breakfast but after reading the book have experimented with waiting until truly hungry. I am time poor on work days so the night before I have started to cook an omelette store in fridge and eat with a few cherry tomatoes , yes cold na did tastes good. I was surprised a do add a very few chilli flakes peps it up.Also the face yoghurt and berries si good. The key is to eat when hungry. Good wishes if you come up with any other ideas let us know . Everyone on here seems to be inventive Im going to make the crackers this weekend . -
Izzy
Oh how i so agree with you , all the healthy slogans on food stuffed with additives and sweetness. To be honest I knew this but was truly addicted. I still miss them but don’t want them I have made huge strides but am working on the longing almost like a bereavement for carbs!! How sad is that.
The adaption process is about re learning what gives the same feelings – definate work in progress.
Sometimes at work we get healthy food gifts but 99% are chocolates hence this health professional being fat. I do not expect gifts and am very grateful that people are able to think of others while vulnerable. Please don’t think we are ungrateful. -
Yummm Izzy that Granola looks great! Will have a try too.
So glad it’s Friday! :-)))) Going out for friend’s birthday dinner but not planning on undoing all the good week’s work – just having a great time! (well, that’s the plan anyway!) It helps when scales go down, it’s helps my will power a lot…
Hope you all having a good Friday 🙂

Ha sadly Im a midwife so lots of pregnant women and Im elderly or getting that way xxxx -
Freya absolutely adores foals – infact there is no better mother than her – and she will “tell” mares and foals that they are not doing a proper job! She lives on a polo stud,She is either in a field with the mums to be, or with the yearlings looking after them. (they can hide behind her if there is something scary!)
I am thinking that potentially the food intake is going to be off kilter on show days a bit of porridge will keep me going until I find the right food. 30g of oats at stupid o’clock is actually quite a lot! come the winter I may change my mind though. However, whenever I eat porridge I have two dogs that tell me they need to share. If they are poorly it is their comfort food. so basically if the horses don’t want it the dogs do! (they also love carrot and apple!) -
times have changed and evidently not for the better.
I hope the health guidance starts to trickle through now that some research has shown that our old advice is not just outdated but harmful and causing obesity.
When I think of the dietician I saw at the end of last year she was a lovely lady but I just got the same old advice when I was hoping for something more targetted towards insulin issues. She was overweight herself. If the professionals can’t stay healthy knowing everything that they think they do, isn’t that a big sign that something has gone wrong?
-
Hi Claire you may well find your scales are spot on! many people do lose a lot especially in week one and you’ve done all the right things. Good idea to avoid the temptation of the shopping! I’ve never fancied making the bircher.
I had to make the granola in two batches as I only have a small blender, it’s in the oven now and smelling yummy!
Hope it turns out well!

What wonderful support and good advice from this community! Thank you so much.

Hi Izzy – totally agree about the yoghurt. I was shocked when I went to buy full fat yoghurt to find that I really struggled to find it – 2 cases of fat free, low fat – I eventually found some full fat Greek Yoghurt, but I really had to hunt. I also wanted some sour cream, which is usually well hidden and picked up the one brand there. I was really shocked when I got home to find that the sour cream was low fat! When I used to look for it as a low fat product it did not exist….. times have changed.

Hi Maefly, congratulations on coming off of Metformin – well done!
-
Just had a visit to my lovely diabetes nurse. Having lost 10kg since February, 7 of which were in the last 7 weeks on the Fast 800, I now have a HbA1c of 40 (5.8) and can stop taking Metformin. Woo hoo!
I am so pleased. I have been finding the 800 tough for a week or so now, my weight has been up and down and the carbs have been calling. I have three weeks to go until I have a long weekend away so I am going to save my remaining Metformin and take that week to mitigate the pancakes I have been promising myself. -
Hi All!
I am definitely a BSD diet convert – day 3 and I feel great – headaches gone and a clearer head and bags of energy. I had the no carbs bircher this morning – I’m not really a raisin fan but it was nice enough! I made myself the beetroot falafels last night to have for lunch at work today – I didn’t have a food processor though only a nutribullet so mixture a bit sloppy but still worked out ok! I have lost some weight according to the scales its 8lbs but I’m wondering if they need a new battery!?! as that seems quite a lot in such a short space of time – although I have noticed I am not so bloated. Managed to fend off the craving for a nice glass of vino with my partner last night after a stress day at work – I made my shopping list on ASDA website for week 2 to keep me busy and focussed. I found this was really useful for this week as I did click and collect to keep me away from buying anything naughty – so only have BSD things in my fridge.

Actually I’ll be doing the quick version… I thought it said cook at low for 4 hours but actually it’s 24! I can’t have the oven out of action that long as I’m needing it to cook a chicken later.
-
Most of the local supermarkets I can think of have the fruit and veg closest to the entrance (maybe the occasional special offer of muffins or donuts plonked immediately inside of the door. Maybe they think you;ll start of virtuous and then give in to cakes and chocolate.
Not being one to make lists, I prefer to choose my meat and fish, and then go back and decide what vegetables I want with them, so lots of criss-crossing – but loads of superfluous aisles now.I agree with you on the yoghurt front – and someone was saying on another thread that her local supermarkets rarely stocked full fat cottage cheese.
-
it’s this recipe Frog.
https://elanaspantry.com/granola/and I’d probably have room but don’t have kale and unlikely to find any in our local shop lol. I’m not sure I fancy them but I might try it sometime because you never know and it’s worth trying new things I think. That’s what I keep telling the kids anyway!
-
Hi Izzy
Is it a recipe from one of those paleo diet websites, or maybe written to appeal to those following it, maybe? They have guidance on not cooking at high temperatures. If you have the oven on really low, there’s a recipe for kale crisps on a recent thread – or will the tray of granola fill your oven?
-
it isn’t just that they are full of rubbish food, they are designed to entice. The first aisle in the store my husband works in is full of breads, cakes, cereals, biscuits and cereal bars. You have to run that gauntlet just to make it to the fruit and veg!
Our co-op has a long stand open at both sides that houses all the chocolate and sweets, and where is it? right where you queue for the check out. I use the self service most of the time so I don’t need to stand beside it but you can’t avoid walking past chocolate. There is also a costa coffee machine in the same area to entice (I don’t like coffee but love a hot choc)
I’ve trained myself to just not look now. I have ‘shopping tunnel vision’ !
The thing that really annoys me isn’t so much the chocolate and sweets. We all know that those things are unhealthy. The thing that really gets me is that there are so many things we have been told are healthy that really just are not. Low fat products for example and wholegrain cereals.
aaand before I stop my rambling. I’m always shocked in the yoghurt aisle 95% of the yoghurt available is low fat and you really have to look to find full fat yoghurt!
-
I just googled images of Percherons and Suffolk Punches – they look amazing – good luck with the baby! Poor Freya, having a squealy thing underneath her! My sister did a course at Wimpole hall a few years ago on handling heavy horses that she really enjoyed (she doesn’t have any, only a dog, but likes horses)
I think the answer is making sure you get a share of the carrot and apples!
there was a thread about porridge yesterday – the jumbo oats that you soak overnight are OK in moderation.
30g contains around 17g of carbs, so a bit highish for everyday – and 30g of oats is lowish until you get used to it, I think the recommended portion on the packet is 40g (and I used to ignore the portion size mostly, or look at it an laugh or thing “Really??!!”)
