Wooohooo Keeptrying!!!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ Your post today was really great reading for me when I staggered downstairs to get some coffee! I think you must be commended for keeping on trying and now succeeding despite stiff opposition from the fat gremlins 😜! It can be so hard to maintain focus when the loss is slow but 2 and 1/2 stone is absolutely fantastic and I am so happy to hear of your success! If those fat gremlins come around and threaten sabotage you can show them the door (impolitely). I’ve had you on my mind, wondering how you were doing — it is a good feeling knowing you have been doing so well. Huge congratulations from California!

About 3 or 4 months ago I noticed my big toes were numb and felt thick. Doctor did a quick check and said I had lost sensation. I asked if I would get it back when my b/g improved and he said, no, it’s gone. Well so much for that. In bed this morning I could feel both my toes, double checked when I got up and, yes, I have got feeling back. Maybe because it was such a short term thing with me I have been lucky but just to be sure, I am never coming off this diet.

Hmm. That is a challenge Brambleberry.

I’ve got a catering business, but it’s only part time. Although sometimes, like next weekend, it means that Friday evening and all day Saturday (midday to midnight) I’ll be cooking naught food too!

I haven’t really though about what I’m going to do for that one, but for recent gigs that I’ve done, if I’ve needed to eat, I’ve just had a bite of whatever protein I’m cooking (e.g. fish but throwing the batter in the bin!) and some of the veg. The one thing I didn’t manage to achieve was to count calories of carbs on these days. That’s more of an issue for you as you will be doing it every day.

    Singing peaches… yay!

This morning we were in Wales, now you’ve all gone Chinese and Japanese.. no wonder I’m lost.

Cookies sounding great.. we need a pic! I just ate the cheesecake slice my boss bought me. Actually enjoyed it till about 2/3 of the way through then thought.. I’m done. Suspect the innards may be grumbling in protest all afternoon but it was nice for a one off treat, especially as we shall be feasting tonight on egg curry with a side of spiced leftover veg that I know is currently rotting in the fridge!

Pie… mmmm. I saw a recipe for pizza base made from gram flour too.. Now that would be worth having..

loopylou, great news on losing 6 1/2 pounds in one week. My week one weigh in will be on Monday and I’m hoping for five pounds. I’m on day 4 and still feeling a bit headachy in the mornings and for some reason am not sleeping too well but hopefully these symptoms will pass and I will fall into the rhythm of the diet by the end of week 1.

Continued good luck with week 2

Hi Rhodie, not to worry about high jacking my post ! I don’t think it works like that on here, it’s just a free for all ! Glad to see you are doing well ! I’ve got my wife’s birthday tomorrow, so not a problem as far as my wife is concerned, as she’s 100% behind me on this plan, but when the family come round tomorrow night then it may be a bit tricky ! I’m really not going to get into the merits of this plan with non believers,
my mother in law is a prime example, she just keeps offering cake etc. If I was you I’d just say that you’re reducing your sugar as people are just starting to realise that it’s not good for them ! Also, you could just say you had a big lunch with friends etc and you’re still stuffed ! It’s the trickiest part of this plan, dealing with others, so best of luck, let us know how you get on !!

Hahaha brilliant! The singing peach sounds promising… although, there was a red wine and drinking a bottle of Archers after it incident years ago. I was sick in my shoes. I still shudder when I smell peach.
You’ll probably get what my user name is then, if you’ve been to Japan – I collect them. I’ve got… 24 and a necklace, and a keyring and a cross stitch and a car sticker. I’m obsessed with the buggers. Workmen came one day and I heard them say it was creepy, they’re all over my kitchen. I like them, and I’ve been really lucky since I started collecting them so… pffffft to them.

Pie update. Pastry rolls fairly well. Decided to make two large pies as opposed to four smaller ones, and they can be shared. A respectable (for a pie!) 455 calories. Not great when you’re eating 800 in a day, but with a mound of vegetables and a vegetable soup for lunch, it’s very do-able for when I get the pastry urge. I was going to cook some off first but there wasn’t enough to spare… so if anyone’s interested in how the pastry looks (yellow) (ish)…

Ooops didn’t realise it would shove the whole twitter thing in the post! Aaaaaaargh. I didn’t know you could put pictures in posts??? Ah well. It looks yellow.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the advice – much appreciated.

I’ve never seen this doctor before, but was told how good he was (he’s from another surgery in a neighboring parish – but they’ve now taken our over practice also). He’s one of those good old fashion doctors who’s got the time for his patients. I went with another problem, but he made me feel so at ease that I was able to talk to him about my weight issues. He said he’d tried the diet himself, and was so impressed by it, that strongly recommends it, and he has referred the plan to three other patients recently, all of whom are doing fantastically.

I myself on the other hand is another matter. I started out this week really well, however for the last two days I’ve struggled and I’ve given in to both cake and bread. I know why (problems at work) but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I really struggle to manage my emotional comfort eating. Does anyone else suffer from this, or have any ideas on how I can combat it?

Also, I’ve tried looking for recipes books which would be suitable for this plan – I’ve printed off the recipes on here which take my fancy, but sadly its not many. Can anyone recommend any recipe books?

Well people do have different tolerances to different types of carbs, so you could say that you are being tested as to which one so you need to abstain from carbs for a bit.

    Hi Rhodie and welcome!

Re losing weight from various parts…..if you stick to the 800 calories per day, and keep the carbs low, with no refined carbs like sugar, pasta, rice, potatoes, root veg etc., then you will lose weight.

However, this is an interesting diet as it resets your hormones and clears not only the subcutaneous fat (the bit you can see) but also the visceral fat (the dangerous stuff round your internal organs). So it’s a great idea to measure yourself as well as weigh, because it seems sometimes that the weight stays level whilst the waist measure (amongst others) goes down.

And, sad to say, the bit of subcutaneous fat below the belly button seems to be the last to go. I have done my 8 weeks, lost 19lbs and got down to 9st lbs (my initial target was 9 stone, and I’m persisting till I get there), but the little ‘belly wedge’ is still stubbornly there.

So yes, you will lose the weight from your hips/thighs, but you may see more effect elsewhere first! πŸ™‚

With regard to your tea party, not sure how you can do that politely – have a slight tummy upset and say that you’re sticking to tea/drinks this time, as you don’t want to risk the beautiful cakes?

Strangely enough I find that after a glass (or 3) of wine I actually weigh much less in the morning! But this is only if I’ve abstained for a few days first.

If I were to drink every night then I would either be static or the weight would go up.

I have two Janey, we’re a family of 6 lol. An upright and a chest freezer. Before my BSD days I used to batch cook a lot, I need to start doing that again.

Pastry is made! Pie filling is made! Pastry is… not unbelievably sticky but one could imagine it sticking stone to wood. If my husband sees it he’ll no doubt find some DIY use for it. Better bake it asap and then give my opinion! Was simple though, if it works, whizz flour, salt, olive oil and water bit by bit until it comes together.

Yayyyyyy! PMT! I think my PMT is due any time soon, how wonderful! (Timmy, hide) We can be homicidal together πŸ™‚

Oooooh you’re brave, but enjoy what you do eat of it. If you don’t enjoy it, it’s not worth eating it, is it? That’s the way I’m looking at it. If I’m going to feel guilty eating it, then I don’t want it.

Hi there everyone – I am a July starter (currently on day 4) and am really encouraged by the losses that people are having. I find it extremely encouraging and motivating too to read everyone’s comments. I have a couple of questions – I am doing the 8 week 800 calorie BSD and do have a certain amount of fat round the tummy region, but most of my weight is around hips and thighs (classic pear shape) – will this diet help get rid of the excess down below πŸ™‚ ? Also, we are going to a birthday tea party this weekend which is sure to have lots of carbs, how do you politely say no without sounding like a fussy eater and admitting that you are on yet another diet (blush, blush). I am a classic yo yo dieter and having reached an all time low (and high weight wise) really want to lose the excess as soon as possible. Thanks

I was discussing them with the boss (ha!) last night and like I said, the wraps are like pancakes, aren’t they? So it makes sense that the batter would (should) produce something like a yorkshire pudding. I won’t risk trying them the first time when I’ve got a roast, I’ll do them before and if they’re ok, I’ll freeze them.

I saw something else last night, soaking raw poppadoms for a few seconds in water so they soften and using them as a spring roll wrapper. As long as you make sure they are the gram flour ones, I think some use rice flour. Looked interesting anyway.

Don’t they look amazing, Epspecially? I’m trying the pastry in a bit too (making it, not eating it!) I’ll bake a little bit to try and if it’s ok, I’m going to make mini pies with it and freeze them. If not, the pie filling (which is like Shepherd’s Pie) can have mashed cauliflower on top instead. Win win. I am really intrigued by the Yorkshire pudding though, now, if that works, it puts a different slant on having a roast dinner! Can you tell I’m more savoury leaning than sweet? πŸ˜‰ Although I would definitely have a nibble at least on a chickpea cookie, just to see πŸ™‚

Breakfast: 1 egg, 2 rashers, piece of white pudding, of black pudding, half an avocado (still had visitor and was avoiding the bread..worked out this was 524 calories – really wouldn’t advise this combination for anyone!! :-))

Lunch: Big green salad of kale, corriander, spinach, parsley from garden, and bit of a nori sheet

teaspoon of sunflower seeds for snack +one piece of 90% chocolate

Dinner: Small portion of homemade bolognese sauce,
28g of fage yoghurt with some cinamon in it.

Managed close enough to 800 calories so back on track. Am noticing how the weird feeling behind my eyes is back again today. Had this for the first week starting out, and it disappeared but it looks like a few too many carbs the day before yesterday and it’s back a few steps – though it’ll be gone soon! Forwards and onwards again! πŸ™‚

Hi Poppy, I am type 2 (diagnosed for 10 years), I take long acting insulin in the evening plus 3 diamicron tablets in the morning. The reason I inject is because I suffered from chronic and constant tummy troubles on oral meds. Obviously my b/g is going to be low on 800 calories but I also have a swim most afternoons and I didn’t want to fall back into relying on things like bread or high sugar juice. I think I probably did the right thing by having some ham and strips of red pepper. Checking through a list of complex carbs I now know I can turn to a small greek yogurt with a couple of prunes. Obviously, I keep checking until it passes. The funny thing is when I had my only hypo in 10 years my b/g was 125 (6.9) so there is no accounting for how your body can react. Fortunately, I can recognise the signs that I am low before it goes too far and I am able to react immediately, either at home or with my emergency supplies in my handbag.

On your last point about reducing meds, this is my aim and I have gone from 37 units to 35 last night in one week and will further decrease by one unit every few days if I continue to see such good results. I see my doctor in 5 weeks and hope to have greatly improved my HBA1C from 11.2 a year ago, to a more normal range.

    Thank you for replying.

Morning Janey! Oh my God, you just reminded me of something there. When I was young, I’d say 7 – 9, I was (and still am) an avid reader, and my Mum used to buy me a hardback Enid Blyton book every time one came out, and I built up a lovely little library. Brer Rabbit. Amelia Jane. The Naughtiest Girl in The School. And then there was a series called The Faraway Tree. My favourite. Remember that? Anyway. After I grew up, my Mum passed them down to my cousin, with the instruction to look after them, as she wanted them to go to my children when I had them. The time came. My youngest three sat on the bottom bunk, ready and waiting for me to start reading a few chapters of my favourite. I didn’t get many pages in, because the children were called Jo, Bessie and Fanny. My children were crying tears of mirth, I was crying tears of frustration. I have up after about ten pages. Thank God I didn’t get around to when cousin Dick visited, is all I can say.

    Hi Custarlover –
I know you have an issue with your OH tempting you with sugary ‘treats’, so if you can’t resist the sugar completely, perhaps you can make an effort to reduce the amount of sweet stuff you take in. Do you think you can cut out the potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, etc. ‘cos that would be a great start. Then try to cut out cakes, biscuits etc., but maybe allow yourself a low carb pancake, with a few berries and a little drizzle of honey? It might perhaps a way to ease into withdrawing from sugars and you can eventually leave out the honey – maybe swap it for cream.
I’m sure you can do this, it’s just a case of finding a way to make it work for you. Once you start to see results, you will find it easier to forego the cakes and stuff.
Good luck – keep us posted and remember we are here to offer support.
