I just logged on to fat secret, how can I change the calorie daily level to 800? I looked in settings and could see how to calculate it but not reset it, is that possible?
Also, when I clicked on the link, it sent me to the mobile site and then the App Store to access it.

Claire I am struggling too x (and have thought the same about you renaming the thread😂) I have read Bissels wise words of encouragement and it’s made me rethink the Frosties that were calling to me from the cupboard! (I know people will be shocked that we even have Frosties in the house but my slim partner brought them for a sleepover party the boys had on Wednesday night). Bissel, I have meant to say, too am a nurse 😃

I’d got to the point that I was thinking that I might start again on Monday, (boy’s back at school) but you have spurred me on NOT to give up x I have avoided the scales during the past week…. but plan to go and stand on them. (I feel like this post is a bit like Scot’s last letter?! If I never post again it’s because I have put all the weight I have lost on!)

Not a lot of posts for 5:2 BSD in ages. So here goes.
I am enjoying the 5:2 BSD lifestyle. It works for me. I continue to lose weight, albeit not as dramatically as BSD800, but I can really manage this lifestyle.
I incorporate regular exercise and also take time out of my day to focus on mindfulness meditation.
I commenced this journey to improve my health and just as it’s become second nature to eat low carb med style, I view exercise and mindfulness as things I do to maintain my health. The exercise and mindfulness are not yet ‘second nature’ but I’m working on it.
What are you doing to make your journey a success? Please share.

Bit of an update on the hair front….I saw a nutritionist this week and paid £75 for what was a bit of smoke and mirrors therapy sadly. Off to my go this morning. My thyroid test came back normal do will ask for dermatologist referral . In meantime have started taking starflower oil, omega 3, multivitamin plus iron and ginkgo biloba daily. No improvement as yet. Leeanne have you made any progress?

Morning Claire. It’s not easy is it? But the great thing is that you keep posting and searching for solutions, rather than thinking “sod it, I might as well give in”. Everyone is an individual, but here is what has worked for me. (A serial up and downer)

I don’t have anything in the house I might gravitate to in weak moments. This is easy for me as I live alone, not so easy if living with family.
I actually feel so much better and just looking at the ‘wrong’ food makes me feel queasy. I know, who would have thought it?!
I plan my food for the week and shop accordingly. Then I don’t have to think and there is no wriggle room.
I drink about 8 pints water a day. When I’m hungry, I sink another pint. Or have a cuppa.
I use quite a lot of salt.
I’ve chucked my old big clothes away (so if I regain weight I will have to go naked, not a good thought) and I revel in buying the odd new thing.

You will need to find the things that motivate you, only you know what they are. But you can do it.
    Best of luck.

  • Well done Autumn Rain for surviving a birthday party! Definitely would have tested your will power! Forgot to post totals for yesterday _ cals 787, carbs 27.2, steps 10,000+. Another 1.5lb off this morning taking my total to 8.25lb off in 4 days! Unbelievable so happy! Have a good day everyone!x

  • Hi Healthy again, so far doing good, the meals surprising have been quite good,I’ve managed to stick to it, my wife had one bad day but got back onto it again. Hello I’ve not posted in his thread before but I’ve just weighed myself and I’m super happy about it.
I’ve been following the bsd for 3 weeks ( but at weekends I have slipped up as I’ve had a party and night out ) . I started at 10 stone 6 weeks ago and it crept up after the party 🙁 for a few days but I’ve been on track recently and attending classes at the gym and it’s gone down to 10 stone 3 :). Can’t wait to see more come off.

I try and take my mind of the hunger/cravings. I have a bath, do some sewing, walk the dog, plan a day out, have (another) cup of tea. And usually it works and I go to bed feeling noble, rather than guilty. And a spoonful of peanut butter, slowly chewed, if all else fails.
Best of luck. It’s not easy is it? But stick at it, you will get there.

Morning all. I was thinking of starting a new thread called HELP!! But as you are all already here…

Well it’s happened: I start off full of resolve but after, say, 3 weeks, I begin the slow slide downwards. Nothing dramatic, more slow motion failure. It starts with not tracking food intake and then graduates to chocolate and biscuits.

So, pretty much failed over the last 10 days and need a bit of help to re-focus and re-energise. The big difference this time is that I’m not now searching around for something new (maybe I’ll do Slimming World…) as I absolutely know that the BSD works and make sense for me.

I’m 50 on 3 October and have two parties to go to with old friends. I really don’t want to be the fat one sitting in the corner but how on earth do I remember this when (literally) completely absent mindedly eating an entire bag of Minstrels?!

    HELP!!

Linda – minus 26.4 kg and only 1/2 a kilo to go – you must be really chuffed – what an achievement. Keep it up

ay caramba – well done on getting down to the “9”s – nearly there for that elusive healty BMI – some time this month, hopefully.

Lynne – 3lbs to go – wow – enjoy some more good breakfasts, AND all those smaller clothes – doesn’t it feel great?

Janet – thanks for your kind words – yes, of course I’ll stay in touch with the forum, but probably only on this thread now (oh, and “this has to work for me” – I couln’t unsubscribe from that one – great sentimental value – all our “early days” on there). Good luck with your maintenance project – just think, in only a few days Michael’s wife’s new recipe book will be out and we can all try loads of new dishes – we still eat mainly from the recipes in the original BSD book so a whole new raft of menus from HQ will be a great boon.

I’m having a great morning – I’ve jsut logged on to the NSI app and discovered I’ve won £100 on the Premium Bonds this month!!

    Yipppeeeee!

The best of luck everyone – see you on 1st October

    Onwards and downwards

Last week was bad for me week 8 and I was insatiably hungry and all I wanted was bread. I caved a few times and ate bread. The worst bit was when i went back to properly following the bsd and it was like a monkey on my back craving carbs. It’s taken a few days to get over the carb cravings. I’ve upped my protein at dinner which helps with that end of day craving. I also like apple cider vinegar in water.

  • Day 4:
Really busy day today! Did not have a chance to get my exercise in today, but survived a birthday dinner party filled w/ bad carbs.

    Cal: 900
Lost: 1 lb & 1/2 inch off waist

Breakfast: organic vegan protein shake w/ unsweetened almond milk
Lunch: chicken “pho” w/ shirataki noodles (zero carb)
    Snack: 1 hard boiled egg
Dinner: sashimi, baked flounder, sautéed green beans & bok choy

    Hope all is well!

Bye now. it is 6 even for the first set with Del Potro and Johnson. Chat you later!

GO DEL POTRO! (Yes, I am not rooting for the American!)

    Day 44
    Thusday September 1 2016

    Breakfast: None

    Lunch:
    1 cup cottage cheese
1 cup greek yogurt with strawberries
    3 velveeta slices

    Snacks: Chicken noodle soup

Dinner: 2 burgers no bun of course
    carrots with hummus

This is a fun match with Johnson and Del Potro. You would think I am cheering for Johnson because he is American, right? NOT! I am a fan of the Argentinians Del Potro. I love the country, especially Mendoza. The government sucks, but the culture is amazing with next door Uruguay. I can even play a game of polo in both countries. Hell of a lot more advanced than their fellow Latino neighbors.

It is 5 even both. Come on Del potro. Make a big comeback to the Tennis sport!

The stadium is wide open now at night. No more rain. I find that the closed stadium has better concentration on the players because of the lacking of hear the planes at JFK and Lagaurdia. They had a rally of 28 in the Serena Williams game. And another one was 40 for Andy Murray. WOW! That is a hell of a long rally.

Did I say I love tennis: The Gentleman’s Sport??????

Unfortunately Janeycoughdrop, there’s good evidence to support just about everything. There have been several very good studies in the past couple of years that have confirmed long term reductions in BMR after weight loss so what to you give greatest credence to? For most human beings (including docs) that will be 1) whatever agrees with what you want to believe and/or 2) whatever you hear most often. Yeh, the nurses and docs know this stuff but the reality is that most folks won’t stick to it anyway. Everyone knows how to lose weight but unfortunately most of us just cant keep it off 😕

Hi – glad you enjoyed it
I go to the Curzon at Bloomsbury mostly – Picture Houses are part of the same group, but they’ve kept them with a separate identity – although they have a similar atmosphere.
It’s just over a mile from home, so makes quite a good walk – and with a big Waitrose next door, also very convenient.

    Hi Christine
I’m just watching/listening to it now on iPlayer – they’re doing a trial of HIT exercise over several weeks that kicked off this evening. and looked at the beneficial effects (or not) of apple cider vinegar.

I started on 17 May so three and a half months ago – I’ve lost 15 kilos so far and about 30 to go to but me into healthy BMI territory. I’ve gone from being a large size 20 (ie M&S only), to around 16 in most things – my target is size 12 with calves thin enough to wear knee high boots!
I’ve had a few holidays and bingey weekends, and lots of plateaus along the way, but no dramatic increases. I’m certainly not as strict about it as most people, but I try and keep to 50g of carbs or lower, but sometimes hit 60 – but some days are lower so probably averages to 50g. My laxity is the reason for not losing superfast, but I’m not too bothered as long as the general direction is down.
My blood levels, after being diagnosed as diabetic nearly two years ago then rocketing up to 112 (and being told they were too high for me to join a medical trial for diabetes and diet!) are now well within normal range so that is brilliant – and I stopped taking metformin a couple of months ago.
I think that I will try and keep to relatively low carb going forward, and experiment with what works for me on keeping my weight steady.

I can see from your posts that you’ve had excellent blood results recently too – have you decided on your route forward?

    Hi yowser49,
We had a good visit to Nottingham, we had lunch there, we were going to take husbands cousin and his wife out for lunch, however when we got there Tony was too ill to go out, he has Alzheimer’s and had got a kidney infection too so he was even more confused than normal, so Ann had made us egg sandwiches and pork pie, it’s a good job I had decided to take a few days to decide my next step, the good news is, I haven’t put any weight on, yet!
I see you also like Peter Kay and count Arthur strong! We love Peter Kay, and my husband can watch count Arthur strong on a loop, he has even got our daughter whois with us for a year or two onto him too!
Hope you are doing ok, keep on keeping on and all that!

I’m hoping that the program, trust me I’m a dr is recording on TiVo!
I’m well pleased with my results, have taken a couple of days off diet as I was visiting relatives in Nottingham yesterday, we were given egg sandwiches and pork pie! So it has been a case of needs must! I will make a decision in a couple of days, I haven’t put weight on though! so that’s a good sign.
I hope you are doing ok? How far along the road are you, and what are you going to do when you reach your target?
    Good luck whatever you do.

Great news about your healing faster Frog!
My unintended consequence is that I can now garden kneeling down on the grass instead of using a ‘kneeler’ that is raised 4 inches off of the ground with two handles either side that are 2 foot off of the ground to help me get back up. I’ve been using this for a good few years and yesterday, without thinking about it, I picked up the plant that needed planning, a trowel and hand fork and walked over to the gap, knelt down without thinking what I was going, and carried on to plant 5 plants, getting up and down with no help! it was only after I realised that I had not been able to do that for over 10 years!

As someone who succumbed to a whole cheesecake in a depressive mood (I craved *and* it was reduced) , you are are not alone.

However I have found the cravings lessened. And a majorly stressful week this week has had only limited crash – and I needed that drink! It delays things but not stop the gains, though I was aware after cheesecake day that I had to face the sugar ‘cold turkey’ anew – a good enough reason to add to the ‘resistance movement’

Day 3 done and dusted! Felt done in earlier but forced myself to go for a 2 mile walk and was pleased I did, felt much better on return. No problem with food except I used to have a banana at midday and do miss it, but I drink some water and I think having to go and get it along wih drinking it makes me forget about food for the moment.
Jooles – I will see if I can access the video re fasting. Thanks for that. I love watching diet programmes, reading books etc. My family and friends despair of me, but I find it all so interesting. They are discovering so much now. Watched ‘Trust Me I’m a Doctor’ tonight. Some very interesting bits on that.
wendyq – sorry to hear your son has been in and out of hospital, I hope he is on a more even keel now. It makes life so difficult when you have illness in the family, but sounds as if you cope brilliantly. This time round we are going to hammer this weight problem for good! We are going to use our strengths to get us through. ☆ (should be a smiley face, but where they’re hiding goodness only knows!!!) There are some really good meat free recipes on this site, but I expect you have already looked.
Natalie – sorry to hear about your blip, but 1200 cals is still very good and an hours walk, well done. Keep those positive vibes going. When hunger strikes try writing a post on here, even if you are in the midst of cooking! It will take your mind off of food hopefully and refocus you on your goals, as this forum is what it’s all about.

Thanks for getting back to me…I was just diagnosed with prediabetes and I know if I keep at the rate I’m going now I wind up a diabetic myself. But that’s good to hear that your doctor said to keep going very encouraging to me as well and that’s exactly what I’m going to do …just keep going and hope for better stats…

  • Sandralea, I have been diabetic for 11 years and have not taken the book title literally. To cure diabetes in 8 weeks would be almost a miracle. That is not to say that people who are pre-diabetic or have only been diagnosed for a couple of years have seen the condition reversed and been able to come off medication. Some diabetics are only controlled by diet so making a big change in their diet would possibly give them normal blood glucose results. I am now doing my second round of 800 calories and low carbs and I don’t think this will be my last. I have reduced my HBA1c from 8.2 to 6.6 and want to be down to 6.0 on my next test, still very much a diabetic. Maybe in a year I might see my numbers returned to normal and that is my goal.

As for my doctor, he is more than happy for me to continue, I have around 10 to 15 kgs still to lose and will continue until I get there. I don’t know if he believes my diabetes will be reversed but he has seen my health improve and knows me well enough to know I am a little terrier who has the determination and motivation to keep going.
