No worries, Nebilet67, you will soon get the hang of it.

I have posted elsewhere about having ‘eaten up’ some remaining apples and clementines after a family self-catering holiday. Only when I entered them into My Fitness Pal did I see the calories!!!! the carbs!!!!! aaaaaaaaaargh.

They’re not ‘bad’ for you but they do have lots of sugar in, and it’s just that you may prefer to ‘spend’ the calories on other things. And I used to eat both apples and oranges as if they didn’t count as food, really. It’s all an education, isn’t it. πŸ™‚

  • Well done all!

Denisesunny, you shouldn’t worry about how swiftly you lose, keep an eye on the measurements and see if your shape is changing! Often clothes are looser whilst weight is the same or not much less.
However, looking at your stats, it may be that you had too much protein and not quite enough fat. You may be interested in having a look at the following site

    http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com

If you enter in your details, your activity levels, have a good estimate of body fat and so on, it will throw out your calorie requirements for maintenance (which I found very interesting – much lower than I’d thought) and you can then put in the 800 calories and, if you’re doing 50g of carbs, you can put that in. It will then throw out protein targets and fat targets which you can put into MyFitnessPal (or whatever app you’re using).

You can only do averages by day, it’s not easy to hit precise targets as you will know, but it may be that slightly more fat (I know, I know, we all have to get used to that) will help with the weight loss within your 800 calories.

Hope that helps. It worked for me! πŸ™‚

Day 18 BS 9.6 mmol/L. A bit late today but was working very early , all things are good. I have been painting and planting my vege garden, plenty of greens and basil.

    Hope everyone is well.

  • Well, yesterday was interesting. I went out on a bike ride – a short one but still burned 660 calories. I then had to take the hounds out for a walk which burned another 150 or so. So I was pretty much in negative equity. By the time I got to the end of the day, I was massively hungry – there are only so many nuts that you can nibble on!

Went to bed, slept like a log but this morning I have lost another 0.3kg so worthwhile the hunger pain for one day I reckon.

So, 3.4kg lost since starting – it is quite steady – none yesterday (I dread getting on scales in case I have put any on!). Trying some spiralizing tonight to see if I can bulk up on courgette!

    Well done all!

  • Hi everyone.
End of week 1 for me. 3.6lbs down. Was 207.6, now 204.
Bit disappointed but know that I struggled on 3 of the days to keep undef 800 cals.
The headache has now gone and feel more able to see this through. Yesterday’s stats were – cals 799, carbs 43, fat 31, protein 86. Happy with that just not sure about the fat and protein figures?
Have managed to up my walking this week and was over my 10,000 steps on 4/7 days. Aim to improve on this too.
Thanks eternallyoptimistic with your post about salad, I am going to be weighing the lettuce from now on!
Have been following all your posts, so well done everyone for posting and for those on a plateau just stick to it and the scales will move.
    Cheering you all, Denise.

  • How’s every one doing? I’m down to half a sugar in my coffee. And that’s the only sugar I have. Made cauliflower fried rice tonight and it was so yummy. I haven’t missed crabs yet.. I’ve already noticed that my clothes, and watch feel a bit loser on me!!

  • Hi Snoop.
Hope that you are feeling better today. You mention that you are grabbing everything because of the economy and wanting to get you mortgage finished. You may not be loosing as expected because of stress. Stress is counterproductive if you are also trying to diet.
Here’s hoping everything turns around soon.

I have been on holiday. I went away weighing 11st 2lb and I came home weighing 11st 2lb. Remarkable. I did have alcohol. I kept to very low carbs. Very little exercise but every day walked. OH lost a lb. We had a very relaxing time.

  • I just want to emphasise what KrysiaD says about estimating vs weighing. I’m a big salad fan and I usually pile it up on my plate and tell myself that these are ‘good’ calories. Last night, as an experiment, I decided to weigh everything that I would usually put into a side salad – one that takes up about half of my plate. I was having this with the lovely spicy bean burgers. Contents: lettuce leaves, a handful of tomatoes, a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds, a small handful of black olives, half an avocado and a tablespoon (or so) of oil/vinegar dressing. I nearly fell off my chair when I added it all up to 350 for the salad and 150 for the dressing, total of 500 calories!!!! Ordinarily, this wouldn’t bother me as I know it’s all good, healthy stuff, but that’s about twice as much as the burgers! I’ll have to pay the price today.

I was in M&S on Monday and got measured. The assistant brought lots of different bras for me to try and I came home with two. Different sizes/styles, but they both fit. No wonder I get confused. The Β£5 voucher was usedπŸ˜ƒ

Hi everyone. My 9 week results are in. I lost 1.5 pounds this week. In total Ive lost 1 stone 3 lbs. Next milestone is 3 lbs more to go, then I will have lost 10 per cent of my body weight.
I will look out for the longley farm cottage cheese. verano.
Any more input on the spiraliser? Which is the best to go for if I do buy one?
Krysia, I envy you being 10 stone something. You have done so well. But I will get there, it just might take me a little while (as I have to get through the 12 stone and 11 stone somethings first!)

  • Hi Snoop – that is really good advice from Linda.
I was a very slow loser (15lb in 3 months) was eating all the right stuff but was doing all the calculations by estimating the weight of the food I was eating. I have just started using Fat Secret and weighing everything (well not everything as I don’t think taking scales into a restaurant would go down very well) and now realise that my estimates were not very accurate. The weight loss is now on the move.
An interesting side effect of the healthy diet we are following. I started driving in 1975 and have always struggled with glare from headlights at night – of course it has got worse since the diabetic macular oedema. I haven’t driven at night since I started the BSD but have the last two evenings – and what was so great was that there was no glare from headlights at all – how amazing is that! So even if the weight is not going down very fast there are so many other good things happening to our bodies.

  • Snoop – are you measuring? It maybe that your size is reducing even if the scales are not moving. Also building muscle (all that foot clapping!) might be off setting fat loss..Keep going you know it will work – maybe it will all drop off in one go! I’ve had more than a few hiccups (mostly due to social events) but even when the scales stall I can feel my clothes getting looser. Good luck πŸ™‚

Hi Tattiescone, some graphic descriptions there – the picture I have isn’t good!!! Anyway welcome to the ‘1st day of the rest of my life’!, make it a good one. I have lost another 1/2lb. So great actually losing weight quickly. I know it will slow down but this diet is great. Even though the portions are small, I am never hungry as they are filling foods. PLAN!! Then bad times won’t be so difficult ‘cos you’ll have your food organised. You can AND WILL do it this time. Don’t waste your life being fat (and I know what I’m saying there!). You are still young get on and start enjoying life. Get out and exercise. If someone has a problem with you exercising that is their problem not yours! Don’t let others problems cloud your life. Get your kids involved. Do HIIT in the privacy of your own home, it’s easy, or will be!! Climb those stairs yourself. You know the pitfalls, get strategies to avoid them. Lots of people on here each with lifetimes of advice, ask them for it. Look forward to hearing of your progress.
Have a great day girlies. xx

  • Hi Hazel
I agree with everything that Igorasusual has said.
I hit my goal weight last week after losing 26.9kg in 20 weeks. I’m not T2 or prediabetic, but I still kept my complex carbs to less than 50/day, often less and I ate NO simple ‘white’ carbs.

I also made sure that everything I ate was full fat and I ate no low fat or lite products. That really seems to be the secret.
    Good luck
    Cheers

    I am in the zone.
    Weighing myself every morning,
    Watching those sneaky little carbs,
    Not stuffing myself
    But
Not getting too precious about it.
I was offered a Wearther toffee,
    Yes I took it,
    I ate it so slowwwwwwwwwwwwww.
    It was yummy.
    Got passed it
And off again back to my diet.
What am I aiming for this week?
A perfect pound off my weight.

So are you in the right frame of mind to do it?

    Love Lucia

  • Hi Snoop
Are you drinking at least 2-3 litres of non cal fluids per day, that is vital. Most of mine tends to be from herbal teas, so it doesn’t have to be water.
Are you eating enough fat…from meat, avocados, some nuts, dairy? Anything low fat is loaded with sugar so will sabotage the plan.
Can you up the walking to at least 40 mins per day?
I’ve lost over 26kg in 20 weeks, so I know this works!
    Cheers

Well done 54andfatnomore – you lost in 8 days the same amount of weight as I did in 3 months (I am a very slow loser – my fault not the excellent diet).
Sunshine girl a really good result.
Yowzer – 4lb a week for 8 weeks – you must be so pleased with that result.
Loopylou – hope your mum is continuing to improve and is getting over the shock of her accident.

  • Well, I’m starting to feel like I’m letting the side down. No idea what’s going on. Maybe I’m genetically doomed not to lose weight! The only thing I can say, guys, is I’m not cheating on the figures for the cals and exercise. Maybe I just have to be patient and, when I get the book, try and follow the specified plan rather than just cut the calories and carbs. OH isn’t on the diet – he’s eating larger portions of the same food as me and lots more carbs (bread) – and he’s visibly losing weight.

    Day 8

    86.9 kg
    No change
    – 1.6 kg overall

    805 cals
Exercise: 1 h 30 mins gardening, 20 mins brisk walk with dogs before bed

I’ll keep going. Something has to give soon. At least I don’t feel so bloated when I go to bed and when I wake up. And not drinking is definitely having some benefits – my sense of smell has improved – and what with that and the healthy food, I’m feeling quite well and more alert.

  • Hi Hazel

If you look at My Fitness Pal you will see that an apple – I used to eat lots of those – is quite a lot of calories and carbs.

So in terms of fruit I didn’t eat a lot over my 8 weeks as I preferred to “spend” the calories on other things.

But so long as you add it it you could have a few berries (raspberries, strawberries, blackberries are the lowest cals/carbs) with full fat Greek yoghurt. And if you like you could add just a couple of slices of Apple to a salad.

In terms of snacks – I would have, perhaps, a Babybel cheese? Or if I really wanted something sweet six baby plum tomatoes eaten really slowly are 16 calories and 3 carbs.

And nuts are good – though not too many!

If you plan a few spare calories in, these are all fine!

Good luck and keep us posted how you get on!

Welcome aboard Seadog, your GP sounds like he is really on your side, which must be a huge help. But most importantly, you want to do this for yourself and you are already seeing that you can. It won’t always be easy, but you CAN do it and everyone one on here will support you through the highs and lows. I was not above eating a whole packet of glacΓ© cherries to get a sugar hit and I haven’t had any refined carbohydrates for 4 months and I don’t miss them a bit.
    Here’s to a new you!

  • Hi Lucyjane.
A day at a time. ..as corny as it sounds. ..that is the way i look at it. Otherwise 8 weeks seems massive and i am not even at the end of week 3 yet. Saturdays are my weigh in days. I occasionally jump on the scales during the week but gave up doing it daily as weight goes up and down daily and would get disheartened. So i am happy with down a bit by the end of the week. Still struggle with wanting chocolate. The sweetness of it. But when i have indulged i find i don’t want quite as much as i used to. Little victories. Week2 weigh in was down 2.8kg so shall see what this Saturday brings. Keep going. Even if you don’t always hit 800cals i bet it is a darn sight better than what you were eating. I know it is for me. Yowzer49: I had e-mailed Moogie twice so far and did what she said to do about the cookies and I still couldn’t get on. I’ll try to change my password and see what happens.

I started the BSD the first week of July and had lost 8 lbs. my first week but to many things came up with a lot of company. So I just started over again a week ago last Saturday and lost 4 lbs. my first week this time around.

  • I have woken up feeling inspired. I have just weighed myself and am 103.7kilos. Pretty much exactly where I was the first time round that I started the BSD:-( I don’t learn do I.

Still I had a holiday happen 5 weeks in last time and I am going to try and go to at least the end of October, change my habits and then do 3 x 800 days a week. My goal is to be under 90 kilos by xmas, which is what I promised myself last xmas.

I feel like I have flicked the I can do this switch on though, and find reading through everyone’s posts very helpful and informative.

Today I will have a 2 egg omelette with cottage cheese, ham and zucchini and for dinner a piece of salmon with yoghurt dill dressing and a fennel salad. I will then do an evening yoga class and that will keep me away from late night snacks. I am going to try and do 3 yoga classes a week and average 10,000 steps a day.

I find the afternoons around my children’s snack..cheese, crackers, apples a bit tricky. Not unhealthy but enough to quickly tip me over 800 calories!

    How is everyone else doing?

    Hi Puneet

Has this happened to anyone else? Oh gosh, so many. Yes, yes, yes. Just read these forums!

Try the search box (top right) with a few key words and see all the threads pop up!

Oh yes, there are many occasions where the weight loss seems to stop.

    However

Have you MEASURED? What’s happening to your shape? Often clothes feel looser, you feel slimmer as the visceral fat goes, while weight stays the same.

Are you still drinking lots? Try drinking even more. – it helps your body excrete the fat by washing it away.

Are you keeping carbs under 50g per day? If not, give that a try for a few days.

Are you constipated? That can sometimes help the weight hang on.
    Try a bit more fibre.

Can you exercise a bit more? That sometimes kicks it off again.

But otherwise, if BS is still improving, just keep on keeping on. I can’t tell you how common this plateauing is. I think everyone goes through it.

Keep the faith – the weight will start disappearing again! πŸ™‚

    MONFILLS!!!! MONFILS!!! MONFILS!!!
Man, he put on a wild show today. he is so entertaining when he plays. I can taste the passion of the sport when he is playing the game. I saw his new strategy:

He is right handed and he does not line up his feet equally. His right foot is a good 6 inches behind the left foot. So, his serve has a stronger power in it. Quite interesting. He made a big breakthrough. I like his style and attitude. And no bitching to himself like Andy Murray.

Del potro tomorrow! I can not wait for thim niether. I love both of their styles and flair of the game. Those 2 and David Ferrer are my favs in the sport today. Andy Roddick had a great style too. Most do not even smile during the match. ENJOY THE GAME!

If only people knew the pain and suffering they go through to be perfect!

What is the only sport the coach or trainer has no contact with the player???????? Not boxing, foorball, or Lacrosse!

Hi I too have the fatty liver problem as well as high blood pressure cholesterol and type 2 diabetes….I started the 8wbs in May and was going well until taking holidays. I found it difficult to forego the three or four beers after work each day which I have been doing for the past 40 years or so and so they were virtually eliminating the good work the low cal diet was doing. BUT I’m back….this time without the beers….and with more exercise involved….89kgs… 63 years age …. We will see how I go this time
