Skipped the weigh in this week as I only got back on Friday and the water retention effect was in evidence as I pee’d like a horse all weekend. I did buy a pair of jeans in week one and had to get a size down so I’m now a 36 ๐Ÿ˜€
Lynne I reckon you could fall in a lake full of calories and still come out weighing less ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hi Bill

Great to have you back. Sounds like you had a great time, well done on resisting those flatbreads ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I managed to resist all the carbs in Italy and managed to leave 2 pounds there when I came home!

I think the key to this is not so much the calories but the carbs. If you can manage to construct a diet which works for you with low carbs, then eat plenty of good fats, then this is what is transformational.

I think that is what Captainlynne is saying, anyway! And she is an example to us all – among others – on this forum.

    Thanks Igorasusual,

I am determined this is going to work for me as I have never had such results on any other plan and believe me over the past 40 odd years I have been on all kinds … no expert on dieting like someone who has been fat all their adult life! I am sensible and cautious about the future losses – usually you lose big at the beginning but it slows considerably, especially as weight loss means the body needs less calories going forward. Hopefully I will still be inspired by Michael and people like yourself to continue even on the bad days!

    Congratulations, Bubblesdevere! Great results!

The key thing about this BSD is giving up the refined carbs – so your body changes to burn fat from your reserves. It’s a change in your body chemistry and if you carry on as you are going, you will succeed, just as some long-standing members of this forum have. Not necessarily as quickly, but definitely week by week.

What a great start for you! Prepare for smaller sizes!

Just been trying to get my head round my weigh in figures and dates! I “officially” started the programme on the 6th June and although I didn’t weigh myself on the day, I knew my last weigh in at the hospital where I get my immunotherapy treatment was 146 Kg – 23 stone. I have to be weighed to give me the correct dose of IVIG drips.

I was weighed again at the hospital on the 14th June and came in at 137 kg. They weigh me on a machine where you have to sit in a special chair.

Weighed myself on the 26th (on my own digital scale so may be some variation) and came in at 133kg. I am astounded – this is a total of 13kg or 2 stone in less than a month.

I usually eat around 1000 calories but some days less and other days a bit more but we were on holiday all of last week and despite family members constantly munching on chocolate, ice cream, burgers, cookies, pizza and cake, hubby and I remained steadfastly on the plan. The only thing that bugs me is my blood sugar levels have not dropped but maybe it needs more than a few weeks to make a difference. I have a huge mountain of fat to lose so despite the scales readings I am still massive and don’t see much of a dent yet but I am sure with patience, will power and this very helpful forum will see marked changes very soon! I did however, buy a pair of trousers a size smaller from a store I can”t usually buy their plus size as they don’t go up to a size 30.

    Hi Switzerland
had a brilliant holiday and had no problem sticking to the plan as the hotel had some of the best food I have ever had on holiday.
Loads of beautiful seafood and grilled meats and a ton of gorgeous fresh vegetables cooked as only the Turkish can.
I did have to resist the wonderful flatbreads and there were a few sneaky drinks but all in all I feel about the same, the clothes still fit anyway.
Check out my new thread for a couple of scary pictures ๐Ÿ˜€

Loft sounds great Izzy! Hope it’s a good and productive week. I hear you on the no work and staying at home making and creating things instead!! Can’t even dream of retirement as is sooooo long away and by the time I get there there may be no such thing :-))))) Still, I guess I do have every evening and weekends and will get back into knitting and making cards and photography. Good look with the writing!

ps skirts feeling good wahhooooooo :-)))

  • Hi Julie13! Congrats on starting, it’s my first day too ๐Ÿ™‚ happy to keep you updated, it will be nice to hear how you go too. Today went ok, not too hungry. I think because I haven’t had alcohol and bread for two weeks during my previous Dr Hyman detox that I’m not feeling so deprived. The BSD diet has lots of variety too compared to the detox, having dairy back on the menu for me really helps.

It’s great that you have the holiday goal. I’m aiming for my wedding day weight for my 5 year wedding anniversary in 8 weeks time. I’m feeling excited and motivated that this diet will bring results.

Captainlynne, good to hear you are still losing on your journey, 27 weeks wow!

The community here is so nice and friendly, everyone is so encouraging.

    Good luck to us all!

    Hi brrrr

Feeling cold is a symptom of ‘carb flu’ which some people experience when they reduce the amount of carbs they eat, and also cut out refined carbs. If you put ‘Feeling Cold’ in the search box top right, you will find the thread where this is discussed.

The good news is that the feelings pass, relatively quickly, so my recommendation is that you press on at the moment as you may find that things get better quite soon.

    Good luck!

Congratulations this weeks losers hee hee – in a good way of course. :-))

.6kg loss this week (and another +1kg lost mid week but obviously put back on during the week) but it’s ok as have learned a few things from the week and maybe time for a few tweaks in week 7! And a pound and a bit is still a pound and a bit less than I was last week ๐Ÿ™‚

So looking back at last months results, I definitely seem to put on a few pounds at that time of the month, and also, I seem to need more food! Does anyone find this? I wonder is this just psychological, as in I think I should need more, or is there something physical going on too… I wonder anyway but I basically spent about 4 days feeling constantly hungry though eating the same sort of stuff that has been working well for the last 5 weeks and finally gave in over the weekend and just had a few extra pieces of cheese, a few more cherries and probably too many tiny pieces of dark chocolate. So with some water gained probably and some eating more, this is why I put back on the kg I think. Also, I really seem to crave things like potatoes and white toast and butter (which I never eat or havent for weeks!!) at this time – it’s a constant head battle and must have something to do with hormones as it’s really obvious. Any tips gratefully accepted!

Another thing I notice, routine is a good way of sticking to this! I am fine all week in work, bringing in my lunches and sticking to the plan and then the last 2 weekends a lot has been going on and I try to be more adventurous and then end up losing less. Not that I want to never try out new recipes again or try new foods, but I guess it’s good to notice which ones lead to weight gain and maybe don’t make them too often. (This is stuff that fits with the plan too, not massively carby or anything, but recipes where it’s difficult to stick to only eating a small amount maybe). I hope that this doesn’t mean I will never be able to eat more than 800 calories again without gaining weight as that would be a depressing thought…. I know some of you don’t even count calories, jsut stick to the principles and it works so I will try to not panic :-))

And last thing – I find it harder to drink loads of water at the weekends as it leads to spending so much time out looking for the bathroom!! bUT the water definitely makes a difference in weight loss – such a small thing, but it matters clearly!

Anyway… that’s it… On to the next week!! Thanks for reading my ramblings anyone who does! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi, I am very new to this – have never joined an online forum in my life but here goes. I am very disciplined and I am one week into this. Now I am really struggling with very low energy and being cold. I am fine with the food and I am not particularly hungry – but on day seven, I am in bed at 8pm (before my kids) I just can’t keep my eyes open, or get warm. I have done 5:2 before, and have had no issues fasting in the past, in fact I quite like it. I have hypothyroidism but its treated and I am completely stable on that front. Also I have experienced diarrhea. Lovely, I know. I really want to do 8 weeks but this won’t work. I am not diabetic.

Been out of the loop for a while now and wanting to get back to ‘normal’ and start dropping pounds again. Sorry to have been out of contact for so long, but it was good to have a bit of a tech detox for a while, so I hope you will forgive me for not keeping in touch as before.

So anyway, I can report that after 10 weeks away, I arrive back to find I have gained 2.8lb – not a result to be sniffed at really and I’m quietly quite chuffed. Usually on just a short break, I can expect to pile on anything from 4lb up so 2.8 in 10wks is pretty good. Daily use of ketosticks has been a huge help and indeed, was my only indication while I was away, as to how I was doing – well that, and making sure I could get the waist band on my red cut-offs done up for the duration. Obviously there were days when I was out of ketosis, but the majority showed a positive result, even if it was only very low. Interestingly, I found that if I cut back the carbs too hard, the result was not as strong as on the days I was not a stringent.

Now I am home, my plan is to begin on the Fast 800 again, starting today. My intention is to stick as closely to 800cals a day as possible, but not to panic if I’m a bit over. However, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the carbs though and will continue to use the ketosticks and weigh daily. If I could drop another 14lb I’d be more than happy.

I haven’t had time to check the other forum threads yet, but hope everyone is doing well – captainlynn, Janet1973, hashimoto, Bill and all the old crew. Hopefully I will find your news as I begin to catch up with the forum again. Looking forward to catching up on things.

  • Hi Captainlynne,
Well done for continuing to eat healthy on holiday, I’ll use you as my inspiration!!
I am very much an emotional eater and a if I’m standing and just happen to nibble on something it doesn’t count kind of an eater, so I’m trying to be really aware of food as nourishment for my body not as a treat or as just something to do.
My goal is to do BSD800 for 8 weeks and then continue on a low carb diet I guess for life!!
    Wish me luck ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Thanks for your welcome Igorasusual! Day 1 has gone fine food wise and although I missed my before work exercise, I made sure I did an hour when I came home from work. I am interested to learn more about ketosis, so plan to look at the app you recommended. I have a little straight skirt and some jeans that I plan to use as my guide, but I will follow your advise and measure myself. Thanks for your encouraging response. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Two weeks down,

    feeling good.

    Did my measurements last night;
    101.5Kg (down from 112Kg)
45.5 waist (down from 48in – around the belly button)

    so happy with these results.
I dont measure it but around my hips has shrunk as well, my golfing trousers, previously tight, are sliding off me, and i have had to start wearing a belt again!!!!

As mentioned in other threads, I have had a load of unused leftover veg, so made a massive veg soup last night, going to eat that for lunch this week, although i cant calorie count, i dont imagine it will be highly calorific as there is nothing but veg and stock in there. Later int he week I am going to make a weeks worth of the Spanish Chickpea and Chorizo Soup, that way im not spending a fortune on food, and still sticking to the diet.

Basiclly going to have Bircher or Scrambled eggs for breakfast, soup for lunch, and then Veg curry or Frittata for tea. that will use everyhtingi have left, ready for me to start the cycle again.

with the exception of my back hurting (which may be a symptom of the change in my core muscles) I feel absolutely great, Im sleeping really well, i dont get poor circulation in my hands!!!!

excited for the next 6 weeks

Love the idea of tango shoes….mmm….red. Sounds great.Think I would hobble if they were too high!!!

    What about ballet flats?
Have started an adult ballet class as a complete newbie and found the shoes remarkably comfy.
Bought some to wear with jeans and I really like them.

Great that we all feel so positive about this diet and can manage to maintain the basic principles even when we go away.
It is really a life-changer that we can continue to follow.

What is not to like about being able to climb summits and have more energy? Well done Nettle.
    Keep on inspiring captainlynne.

I weighed this morning. Beginning of week 6. A few ounces more than Friday morning, at which I was pleased about (yes honestly!) had friends for the weekend and didn’t eat very strictly. So could have been far worse. I think the best thing is I can’t eat as much as I used to and feel quite ill if it’s too much wrong foods. A good cut off point!
1lb to go to a healthy BMI. I can hardly believe it! And my mum is melting! I still have a bit more to lose before I get to where I want but the results are encouraging.

    Hi Nettle

No shoes for me today. Waiting in for 2 deliveries – both due between 7am and 9pm๐Ÿ˜ฑ Now 9.30am Monday morning.

I agree, this is both a revelation and a revolution! It’s doable, achievable and sustainable. I started this saying that I’m my own lab rat – treating it as an experiment, logging my results carefully.

Now, even when away from my comfort blankets of scales (both bathroom and kitchen) and familiar foods, I’ve found it is possible to maintain the BSD principles. On holiday it can lead to ‘interesting’ situations, but also interesting conversations.

I’ve just booked flights to go back to Italy at the end of October. My friends have seen what I can and can’t eat so they’re used to it now (and to explaining to others – my Italian isn’t up to that!). wasnt going back until next year, but they’re feeling guilty because their dachshund has been diagnosed with liver cancer and they’re blaming themselves. The more often I go, it helps my Italian and maintains their English – win for both sides๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Lots to update since my last weigh in on the 6th June. First of all I checked my height properly and I’m taller than I thought, so I’ve updated my BMI’s on my profile and my ultimate goal has shifted slightly. I also saw the doctor at the beginning of the month and have been taken off all blood pressure meds, which is a big relief.

I was on BSD800 up until the 9th June, then went on holiday on the 10th. While i tried to be good, it didn’t last long and I indulged most of the time there. I didn’t regret it as it was a holiday, but the scales certainly showed what had happened, my weight on the 18th June was a whopping 94.3kg, a massive 4.5kg more than when i left. I was back on BSD800 and by Monday morning (20th) my weight had dropped to 92kg, still above my pre holiday weight, but dropping quickly, so I’m guessing mainly water retention.

On to today, a full week completed of BSD800 and here are the results:

    27th June 2016 – 87.9kg – 194lbs – 13st 12lbs – BMI 26.7
Weekly loss 4.1kg – 9.0lbs – Looks like still a lot of water retention, and the expectation is that the weight loss will slow down moving forward.

    Loss so far:
    Since June 2014 – 52.7kg – 116lbs – 8st 4lbs
    Since 1st March 2016 – 35.9kg – 79.1lbs – 5st 9lbs
    Since 4th April 2016 (beginning of BSD800) – 22.6kg – 49.8lbs – 3st 8lbs

Current target โ€“ 82kg โ€“ 181lbs โ€“ 12st 13lbs โ€“ BMI 24.9 โ€“ This will take me into the healthy BMI range for the first time since i was a child.

Monday night here, I feel good because I did the mountain again today, its a low one but to celebrate my first summit a month ago I did it again. It’s great to feel this way with so much energy. I used my sensible shoes.

Lost 13kg so far, first goal was to do another 3kg then 5:2 however if I go another 5 I will be in the ordinary weight band. I think I grew through that aged 12!

Isn’t this a revelation if not a revolution? I am not diabetic but thyroid and adrenals out of whack for a decade, now they aren’t, not seen the results on paper yet but just feeling alive again will do it thanks. The feeling of confidence that this will stick is gold.

I am a retired nurse, for some years I was a health educator responsible for teaching general practices the latest updates. I said to hubby yesterday that I reckon we will live long enough to see this BSD get the credit and kudos it deserves.

Have a great day in those nifty sounding black courts.

Well, I have been rubbish about posting my progress, last week was pants, only lost 1/2 lb , most disappointing. D is shedding the pounds at a rate of knots and is unbearably pleased with himself and STILL CHEATING! Anyone would think this was his idea. I think we are on week 5, which just goes to show how easy it has been. I have not got suddenly and ravenously hungry like I used to do and am finding my appetite satisfied when I eat.
I am taking a photo of myself every 4 weeks in my birthday suit for comparison and can see changes already which is most encouraging. Still got a long way to go but I’m sure we will both get there, one of us considerably faster than the other it would seem. Hmmmm, not that I’m jealous or anything.
JCH187 how are you doing, hope it’s going well?

  • Hi Julie13

This works. I’m 27 weeks in and still losing weight. I echo everything Igorasusual says. Also, some of have to keep our carb intake really low, while others can cope with more.

I’m just back from a holiday in Italy and even lost 2 pounds during the holiday. I stayed with friends and we ate out several times. Calorie counting wasn’t possible but I stuck with the low-carb Mediterranean style of eating as well as watching portion sizes. Hope this helps.

BEETROOT FELAFELS, CHEESY SCONES, COURGETTE AND APPLE MUFFINS.

I found the FELAFEL mixture quite wet too, the second time I made them it was wetter, I think it depends on how moist the beetroot are, but you can always add some extra chickpeas and make some more felafels to take to work for lunch๐Ÿ˜€ I will definitely try them with carrot next time I make them.
I tried making the CHEESY SCONES from the book, DISASTER. I ended up with a pool of biscuit which went out for the birds and the cat enjoyed munching on. (She’s weird) The quantities for this recipe are not right. Then I made the courgette and apple muffins, much better. If you are craving something sweet these made with the addition of a little sweetener would be great, the coconut flour makes them macaroonish.

Thanks for the offer. I would love to wear them๐Ÿ˜ƒ Unfortunately high heels give me vertigo ๐Ÿ˜ฑ And knowing me, I’d fall off them and break my ankle๐Ÿ˜ฑ But seeing them on the shelf would make me smile too.

Seriously, since I hurt my back a couple of years ago, high heels (up to 2 – 2.5 ins) seem a distant memory. I seem to have turned into a flat shoes type of girl ๐Ÿ˜ณ Perhaps I need to try again now I’ve lost so much weight! Work dictates plain black cort shoes (a rare breed!) but perhaps a wedge heel might work better for casual. You’ve got me thinking N. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Great results. How much have you lost now? Do you have much to lose?

The lady tomorrow is a ‘health educator’ coming to talk to my ladies’ group. We cancelled once because of bad weather, then she cancelled because she was ill (!) so hopefully it will go well tomorrow. She’s bringing colleagues to lead a ‘chair exercise’ session. If she wants someone to talk about the BSD guess who’ll volunteer! As long as I can fit it in with work. When I saw her early this year I’d just started the BSD and she was interested, but now she can see the results – and that it is sustainable. Need to be a bit diplomatic though, because she knows the diabetes nurse I see. I’ll let you know what she says tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    Good Morning lovelies ๐Ÿ™‚

I was very lucky not to sleep in this morning, I thought I set my main alarm but I didn’t and as my back up alarm on my mobile went off the battery died so I only had a few moments of music lol. However I’m up and breakfasted and lunch is made for myself and my son so no harm done. Usually my mobile is plugged in over night but I had gone to bed without the charger and thought it would be ok!

For the next 3 nights my husband will be on late shifts so I will hardly see him, but it does mean that as I’m here on my own with nothing else to do I can focus on my projects. I think I’m going to have a quick look in the loft to remind myself what it is like up there so I can see what I am going to need to do to use the space. It won’t need to be pretty and will stay loft like.

I’m also going to try to write a chapter or two, continue my painting and begin my first customising project. I have 2 in mind at the moment, well 3 but 2 involve the same items. I need to start using my creativity now that I have it back. I have missed it so!

The great thing about having so many projects and ideas and none of them expected by anyone but me is that I can flit around. I can do bits of each or concentrate on one thing. If I can’t think of the words for writing I can put it down and paint instead etc. No pressure, no deadlines, no limits. Just my own freedom of expression and escapism.

I’m far too busy for this ‘going to work’ nonsense, haha I wish I could stay home all day and craft/write – my ultimate dream.

  • Hello to all of those in fast 800.
I have been diagnosed as insulin resistant with blood sugar in the pre-diabetic range. I have lost 8kg’s by following a low GI diet and regular exercise which is just the beginning. Already my blood sugar has improved but I still have significant cm’s to erase as well as kg’s to lose. My doctor described me as deceiving as I am tall but my waist tells a different story, in a nutshell she said I was abdominally obese…OUCH! Painful but true. No point having a great set of legs if you don’t have the ABS to match!! LOL. However, I do know this is not a laughing matter. My father is an insulin dependent type 1 diabetic after having been type 2. You wouldn’t classify him as obese or overweight but he is slowly going blind and has poor circulation. I seem to take after him being an apple type body shape and if I don’t get my waistline under control I will be facing the same health issues down the track. I have managed to reduce my waistline which has pleased my GP but after having read Dr. Moseley’s book I believe i will become even more successful at whittling down my belly. My GP has been great in allowing me to tackle this without rushing to put me on medication. I have my next blood test and weight check in 4 weeks and will commit to the plan to prove that it can work. I have to admit I was shocked when I stepped on the scale but more shocked and concerned by my blood sugar results. Already others have noticed an improvement but at least I can now use my blood sugar as an excuse to avoid treats handed out at morning tea. People seem to take you more seriously if you say…no thank you I have high blood sugar, instead of I am trying to be good. When you rephrase it as a blood sugar issue then very rarely does someone say go on just have one. funny that isn’t it? Diet sabotage!
I am now planning my assault on the fast 800. I rationalized that if i joined the forums then it would certainly make me accountable and motivated. One day at a time, it seems a little daunting but seeing I have never been a breakfast person. I plan to do two meals and a snack if need be based on the low GI principles I have been following with real food, fresh and in season. I have already tried the 5:2 approach and found it easier than I imagined. My priority is melting away my belly fat and getting back into my jeans instead of jeggings, lol, nothing like a bit of elastic to keep one in denial. We are all pretty big foodies in my family as my sister is a chef and my mum an awesome cook so I am happy to share recipes as well. Thank you for reading.
    Cheers from Australia.

    Hi hashimoto,
I’m unable to sign your petition as I live abroad. Haven’t heard from you in some time. How are you going?

    Hi Bill1954,
How was your holiday? More importantly, how did your BSD fit into it?
Knowing how the BSD fitted in with your plans would be interesting for those of us dreaming of getting away on holidays.
I hope your health has stabilised/improved.

I continue to walk daily and have ditched inside exercise (for now). Even on wet days I’m trying to get out. I find it’s easier to reach
10 000steps when I’m outside and I feel more positive.

Hee hee no I don’t think you need to worry about me. I feel I have learned some degree of control that I didn’t previously have! I’ll keep moving forward hopefully in every way ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel like I’m on a roll!

Yay for clothes getting too big!

I know that difficult days are not so far behind me, I don’t need to go too far back to find some hard days in my diary. However right now I just feel like everything is right and I could achieve pretty much anything I want to. I’ve missed this feeling – the strength and lust for life. I’m not sure how long it’s been missing when I think of it… I wasn’t sure I could have it back.

I know difficult days will come and go, but this shows me that even if I lose this feeling, I can get it back again.

There are so many things I want to do now, my only problem is time! For the moment though it is time for sleep. Sweet dreams Happy, and all x

    Hi Captainlynne

I have something you can borrow to up the BMI a tad. Tango shoes, lovely red and black, strappy, heeled, tango shoes. A few weeks back I shared with a mate that I’d like to learn Latin dance again, last seen doing the cha-cha-cha in 1969. She gave me her tango shoes to use as a goal. I smile every time I pass them on the shelf. You are free to use them to boost the height anytime.

Week 16 half way through and I still feel great, weight is coming off at an average 1kg (2.2lbs) a week slow but sure, it is winter where I live but I am not having a problem wanting any extra food. Muffin top a bit stubborn if you have any tips for that I’m sure you could sell them at a profit. ๐Ÿ˜€ So far the best improvement seen is when I lie down flat….

Looking forward to your report on Tuesday’s meeting.

  • Welcome Julie13, I’m sure the BSD will work for you!

Measure as well as weigh, have some clothes to test yourself with, and focus on keeping the “good” carbs low as well as eating good fats to fill you up, and protein. And drink, drink, drink.

Very best of luck – keep us posted! ๐Ÿ™‚
