Hi – when I was 29 I was diagnosed (after 5 years of symptoms) with Hypothyroidism – once on Thyroxin I was told that I would be back to being a whippet! As the only overweight person in my family I was relieved to hear it – it didn’t work like that and now – 26 years later I am even more overweight and a diabetic to boot. I didn’t eat too much and cut down on fats and ate far too much of what I thought were the foods that were good for me.

I am waiting for a really horrible abdominal operation that has been put back and back due to my weight. Almost by accident I read about this diet and began it four weeks ago. One stone down and my insulin has been cut by a third already. I may just have found a way to live with this! My aim is to lose another 5 stone and suddenly it doesn’t seem quite so difficult – I am so relieved and overjoyed. I have to ask though – why oh why was I not helped like this by the countless number of doctors and diet experts I’ve seen over the years?

    Hi JeannieOne

Welcome in, this is THE place to be as you have found. I am hypothyroid, twice tried Thyroxine in the past 10 years and twice crashed and ended up in a/e. Third time I was prescribed it by the specialist endocrinologist I refused to take it. I have tried all sorts to lose weight too, now on week 16 BSD, have lost 13kg, slow but sure, my energy levels are amazing, up hills no problem.

When out on a walk the other day I started feeling frustrated that the past decade had been wasted…then I decided to turn that around to thinking I will celebrate a healthy next decade. It certainly made my day. Accept what we can’t change.

I’m waiting a few more months before I go get repeat blood tests but I know the high readings will be near as normal.
I am an RN, it was disappointing and unsettling at times to work with professionals who thought they had all the answers but patients were not improving.

Being in the best nick you can be prior to surgery will make for an easier recovery.

Well done on your progress to date, one stone in a month is life altering, it’s also empowering.
    N.

    Hi jeannieone and nettle.

Yes I find this revolutionary diet nothing short of a miracle, mind you only started yesterday, but have absolute faith in the science behind it all. Having dieted badly for 41 years I was aware of all this but all the advise always said the opposite. I don’t have the condition you both have but have other conditions I have to be aware of. But having been reading the forums here for the past five weeks, no one appears to have experienced any serious debilitating occurrences and if there was as this diet is so high profile in the media at the mo, Im sure the media would have found them to make an interesting documentary or something. So onwards, and I absolutely relish this new approach wholeheartedly. Keep up the excellent work both of you. Here’s to lots of losses, and healthy blood sugars, and I’m sure everything else will normalise also, or at least improve.
