Yay go for it Lucky. Your diner sounds great. I only on about 3000 but going out soon and hopefully pier and swim in the sea!☀️💪🏽💪🏽😂

Had spinach and bolognese sauce for dinner and Parmesan. And sneaky bit of the raspberry dark chocolate😜 Also found a coconut yoghurt at lunchtime which was low in carbs and high in fat but felt sick after it so no more of that for me! Coyo is the brand, but it’s a bit like the almond flour, eye wateringly expensive for what it is.might be good for emergencies though 😹

Just watched the cat stalking a fly, soooo concentrated, mindfulness in eating if ever I saw it!!😂😂

Annadongela, when something has 13g of carbs and 13g of sugar, it means that all the carbs ARE sugar.

So your raspberries are a total of 9g of carbs of which 6g is the sugar and the rest will be the fibre in the fruit.

Generally you are completely right to avoid sugar itself, but other foods do have sugar in various forms, like milk, fruit etc. So try and keep the carbs down low in general, and that will automatically reduce the associated sugar.

    Does that make sense?

    Good luck!

I have been low carbing and I thought I was in the zone. I had to eat 4 slices of gouda. So whilst I am now at aprox1200 cals I kept low carb. My tummy is turning in on its self urgh.

Feeling sorry for myself today. I know it’s worth it and this feeling will pass but I wasn’t expecting to feel so bad after a week of lchf.

My FBS still hovers between 85 and 100. So wonderful!! I am so grateful for this WOE and all the good people on this site. Downward!! Laura

Chin up blessedenough, it will pass I promise. Important things are to drink plenty and make sure there is enough fat in your meals, as this will help you to feel full quicker and for longer. It can be tough in the first few days though, keep with it though, because it will come right. Your new body is waiting for you to discover it, so don’t do anything to make it wait any longer than it needs to.

I have done a 4 week menu plan by following Michael’s plan but adjusting for things I don’t like (mainly fishy stuff). On week one I put the calories next to each meal with a total for the day. For weeks 2, 3 and 4 I did the same but also included the page number for the recipe as I got sick of having to check the meal, check the index then check the page for the recipe. So now I am super organised but I don’t know how to share this with you. Try using his menu plans.

The first thing I would cut out are the ground almond cakes – sorry.
Can someone advise how I can add, like a photo. I know if I copy and paste it will go all over the place.

Great news Lesley, have a brilliant honeymoon and then come back to us, ready to start afresh.

I’m annoyed and frustrated, as I managed to mess up at the w/e and so ended my week a pound up and further away from my first stone lost. Trying to refocus, get my head down and get to that milestone by this time next week – wish me luck.

Well done Ziggy!! Confess to being a tad envious, as I have gone back up by a pound – again!!!!! Mind you, wasn’t as stringent as I could have been over the w/e as we were visiting our daughter, so had a take away and a meal out, all of which must have taken it’s toll. Still, back at it from today, keep everything crossed for me, that I see enough of a loss to register a full stone gone by this time next week.
Hope your week three goes well – keep us posted.

Please, please continue with this. As you can see everyone here is very supportive. I have just completed the 8 weeks and half way to my goal. 26lbs lost already and I feel fantastic.

I’m a stress eater as well but have found that this diet really works for me and gives me a great sense of well being. There are lots of choices foodwise and once you get over the initial carb flu I have found you really don’t miss the sugar and starchs. Also it is the only diet I have been on where if I have the odd blip (and we all do!) its no big deal and I get back on the road pretty easily.

    Best of luck!

I’m having chicken tikka strips, salad, a drizzle of sriracha and I think I will make some fresh wraps to go with. Luvverly.

  • Hi
Only consider doing anything if next time you go it feels tough going (if you know what I mean!). It is natural not to go as often as perhaps you did initially. I have been going perhaps every 2-3 days. Everything has been fine when I have so I am not disturbed by the change in frequency.

OMG I just remembered an old ‘upsetting other nationalities’ moment! So, one of my ‘official’ abilities is being able to speak German (and a bit of French). A good few years ago I was in Germany for a trade show and staying at a quaint little hotel, with what can only be as a HOT waiter/bell boy. Bearing in mind I was mid 20s and a very bubbly English girl, he and I were having lovely chats over several nights so I could practice speaking the lingo (plus he couldn’t speak English). Anyway, one night I was in the bar and he looked really tired, and what I meant to say to him was ‘ you look tired, you need to go home to bed’… and thanks to language variations, what I essentially came out with is ‘ you look tired, would you like to go to bed with me’!!!!!!! It took me a few moments, looking at the stunned expression on his face, to realise my faux pas!!!!!! AVOID AVOID for the rest of my stay!!! 🙁

I have been ‘lurking’ here for a while reading everyone’s replies. But today I need to get serious and get on this plan. I was following low carb eating in March and April and I lost 22 lbs, but I lost my job, looked for jobs and then got a new job and now my loss is only 10 lbs from that time period. I keep saying I’m going to get this weight off, but I’m a stress eater so whenever we hit a bump in the road of life, my eating goes out the window too! But after reading everyone’s posts on here and seeing the great results you are having, I want to have great results too, so I need to get my butt in gear and just do it.

I’m starting at 272 🙁 and I hope to never see those numbers on the scale again. I’m living in Saskatchewan, Canada right now. I haven’t read about any Canadians on here yet, but I love reading the posts from all the Aussies and Brits. 🙂

I’m posting because I know I need the support. Whenever I try to follow a plan on my own, I fail. It’s only when I stay accountable I can be successful.

Twitter needs to be longer than 140 characters lol. I still to this day can’t laugh about it! For weeks after, hubby would randomly break out into laughter, in the supermarket, in bed, in the cinema… and he’d just shake his head and say ‘card’. And I’d know. I am still cringing about it, it’s the absolute worst WORST thing that anyone could infer that I was.

Ah well. I always put a little more thought into greetings cards now when I buy them…

    What a plonker…

Thanks for your reply. The myfitnesspal app gives me the carbs which I am keeping below 45 but it also gives the sugars that are in there too. This is hidden sugar such as that in milk – I have 200ml of semi skimmed milk a day and it has 13g of sugar as well as 13g of carbs, or natural sugars in the raspberries that I have in my morning smoothie – they must be allowed as they are in the recipes in the diet book. (I have half a cup of raspberries which gives 9g of carbs and 6g of sugar (unless it is saying how much of the carbs turn to sugar??)). I do have the occasional coffee with real sugar in so I know they’re a no-no, but I’m trying to get my head around the natural sugars and what should be the limit. Hope I’m making sense. Still not seeing a great loss after 2 and half weeks, less than 10lb so it has to be the sugars, right??

Have you got the BSD book by Michael Mosley. There are some good suggestions in there. Just type into Google, low carbs and low calorie and you should get some meals – watch out that they don’t have the traditional carbs like rice or pasta. I go on a site called http://www.sparkpeople.com and they have what they call SparkTeams, you can find one called Living Healthily with Insulin Resistance/ Low Calorie Diet where people have posted lots of ideas.

  • Not had aubergine since the 1970’s when it tasted bitter and had to salted and soaked. Had the aubergine lamb last week and it has now been highlighted (pink highlight = eat again) and is on my menu for Saturday.

Smoked fish and celeriac. Lumped both together as I had the luxury fish pie (minus the prawns) and I loved the extra flavour the smoked fish gave and the celeriac topping was yummy. Got that again tonight.

Ok but if I get reported, and banned from the forum, it’s your fault!!

It was about four years ago. Hubby had yet another operation, I don’t drive, and I didn’t like leaving him home alone after the op. So I figured out I could catch the bus outside my house, run around town, and be back in the house in exactly an hour. After travel and getting back to bus stop, it only gave me a 25 minute window to go to the bank AND get everything I needed, so I had to be uber organised. This particular day, I had to buy several greetings cards for different occasions and the three children had been invited to parties over the course of the next fortnight. So, I run up to the card shop with my list. Anniversary, Sympathy, Open Birthday – check. Two 6 year old cards, one girl, one boy – check. Two 8 year old cards – both for boys. Only one style there, typical, sod it, I needed them, only one card shop in town – check. Back home, children write on the cards, I stick a ten pound note in each card, stack them up ready for the parties. In my defence, I was very, very harassed at this point in time.

I take third child to his party. So, bear in mind, I live on a council estate, a very nice one granted. But this child’s house is down where the millionaires live. Birthday child’s parents are very well heeled, professional. Mother is lovely, father is a bit stand-offish. Both foreign. I drop my son off, I hand the card to his mother and I trudge home. Three hours later, I walk back down in the pouring rain. I was saturated when the mother opened the door to me, she invited me in despite my moistness, told me the boys were just finishing off and finding their shoes. So I stood in the large hallway, and she thanked me for the financial gift. I apologised at the lack of originality, explained that my husband had been quite ill, and anyway it was hard to know what children already had. She said it was fine and her son was saving towards some big item anyway, so it was much appreciated. Next minute her husband appears at the top of the stairs. He looks at me. His eyes narrow.

‘AH yes!’ he says, bounding down the stairs towards me. ‘I particularly liked YOUR card!’

I stop. I think. It was only a generic card, zero thought went into it, there was only one choice there, even! I must have looked blank.

‘Hang on!’ he exclaims, as his wife looked a bit puzzled. ‘I go get it!’

She smiled at me, I smiled nervously back, racking my brains as to what was so wonderful about my card that a grown man was RAVING over it. Back he comes clutching the card, the front facing outwards, facing me. My heart sank.

‘Look!’ he says. ‘It is a FROG! With the googly eyes!’ Then he started shaking the card manically. ‘LOOK! Look at the googly eyes! On the FROG!’

I’m stood there dripping all over their wood floors. I muttered something about it being the only card in the shop, just stopping short of doing a complete Father Ted ‘I am not a racist’ speech. Because I managed to innocently give the little French boy, a card with a frog on it, and his father managed to be very, very offended about it, and thought I’d done it deliberately! I am still mortified about it to this day, because I detest racism, I always have and I always will. The father to this day still blanks me. Everyone else thinks it’s funny though. I couldn’t get out of there quick enough 🙁

What a tale! Really bad but good you were able to pursue other avenues. Could have been so serious.
I did a food intolerance diet- it was only rice and lamb for a week, this was with a naturopath. When I then had dairy and then wheat – nasty symptoms of having a heavy cold. So I’ve stayed off them since.
Good luck with turning your immune system back on.

Do you mean actual sugar? If so, the answer is none at all. If you mean sugars in veg etc, it comes into your carbs allowance. BTW I had to cut down to less than 30 gms of carbs to lose. Hope this helps

Tokyo! You are absolutely incorrigible! Next time I go to a concert, I’m paying for you to come too! That’s nice of him, he comes across like a lovely genuine bloke, doesn’t he? We can’t listen to his music any more though, we were put on hold once, over a course of several days, several times, with a company with the most appalling customer service in the world, ever. Sometimes up to an hour on hold. And all they had on loop was the same 5 Buble songs. Over, and over and over. We were fans. We can’t listen to him any more.

Sports day over, and… the boobage is burned. I repeat. The boobage is burned…

I have another one, one of the most mortifying things I’ve ever done, but the funniest to everyone else that I’ve ever told. I don’t think I can post it in case it offends someone. It wasn’t done with offence in mind though. But I still managed it…

    Hi everyone
So glad found out about this way of changing my lifestyle as on reading the book and some of the threads here it so makes such sense!

I am diagnosed type 2 on metformin 2000mg plus added insulin as recently diagnosed with other condition needing huge doses of prednisalone at 50mg per day

Been trying low carb diet but really want to attempt the Med way of eating

Bit stumped at minute re calories, or carbs so wondered if anyone has got a daily plan / menus to browse as am much better at following something in black n white like that. I suppose I could follow the daily plans in the book, adding more to it as needed.

I have been making these breakfast muffins using ground almonds which are delicious and ground almond cakes as snacks but can see am probably going over an allowance to start losing this visceral fat I need to lose!

Any ideas tips or pointers greatfully received

    Thanks

Thanks Bill I did have paracetamol in the end and another pint of water. I have been low carbing all week so I thought I was past the carb flu stage. Oh well. I had another portion of yoghurt and raspberries as I was still hungry but I have accounted for it.

DHARAKO I Google all of my meal choices and tot it up. Its taking a while but I hope to build a selection of go to recipes.

This evening I am making ricotta quiches with chorizo and cheese. They are yummy and about 120 cals each. They will be perfect for picnics and quick breakfasts. Sadly I don’t like eggs. I have had a text from the school and need to make more blasted fairy cakes, my daughter was going to help but her main input was licking the spoon!
