Morning everyone.
I agree about the feeling of anticlimax. I hit target weight this morning, and that’s exactly how I’m feeling.
Yes, I’m happy to have lost 6st 7lb, now weighing 9st 7lb. But having put so much effort into this since 19th December, part of me is thinking ‘OK, what now?’
But I know this is now the beginning of a new stage in my journey. I’ll start my ‘maintenance’ notebook next Saturday (official weigh day) and spend some time thinking about what I want to do now.
I’ve had many problems looking for new clothes, partly because I am only 5ft 1in, so I may devide to start making my own again. Or start using my craft supplies. Or ……. !
One thing I do know is that I’ll continue to post on here. It keeps me accountable. When we go to the major slimming clubs we get whatever ‘rewards’ they use along the way, and one gives (or gave) a key-ring on reaching goal (I never got one!). With the BSD the reward is the weight loss itself, combined with all the health benefits. But having been indoctrinated with the reward system of the slimming clubs it can be difficult to change that mindset. But the clubs, even with their rewards, didn’t get me to target, whereas the BSD has. The support on here is amazing. So thanks to everyone who has supported me an my journey, and is still supporting me. ππ

Hi everyone
Unofficial weigh this morning shows that pound has disappeared this morning so I’ve hit my target of being in my healthy BMI at 9st 7lb. Total to date of 6st 7lb.
My current thoughts are to stay between 9st and 9st 7lb, so I don’t mind losing a few pounds more.
I’m starting my ‘maintenance’ notebook on Saturday – my official weighing day.
-
*waves*. Morning π
Unofficial weigh this morning shows …… *drum roll please* ……. another pound gone.
So this morning I have reached the top of my healthy BMI at 9st 7lb. A total loss to date of 6.5 stone, 91 pounds, 41.28kg. π
I’ll wait until my official weighing day next Saturday to start my new ‘maintenance’ notebook, recording as I have been doing just so I know what’s happening and can deal with any problems as soon as they start.
I don’t mind if I lose a few more pounds, but don’t really want to go below 9st. My thoughts at the moment are to stay between 9st and 9st 7lb. That keeps me in healthy BMI, and gives me a little wriggle room. And sets boundaries for me.

Hear, hear Igorasusual, well said. I’ve just noticed I have a site called “8 moves to get a bangin’ booty” open on my iPad! Never in a million years would I have been looking at that 4 months ago! (Still don’t think I will get said bangin’ booty, but never mind)
I’m planning a meal for friends later this week (I bet they are dreading what I am going to serve them) and have been revisiting Diana Henry’s book ” a change of appetite”. Some really good recipes and others that can be adapted to LCHF.
Glad to hear about the extra hours too!
-
I think SunnyB is right. No low carb beer, sadly. “Liquid toast” is what it’s called.
So plan it in, as recommended. There’s no harm in that, or in a holiday croissant, so long as we all know what it’s doing. The problem is only when we eat/drink all of these things – sometimes as treaty extras – without appreciating what they’re doing inside in terms of carbs and not-needed calories.
though do watch out – OH decided to have some (well a whole portion) of chips with his steak on a recent weekend away and had immediate indigestion. He’s now much clearer that just a few would have given him the same enjoyment without the bad effects!
Have a lovely holiday and keep us posted how you get on!

Hi Flowerpot and all
Re giving up sugar – it took me 8 weeks to really stop noticing my drinks didn’t have sugar in. I’d heard it was 6-8 weeks for the tastebuds to change. But here I am drinking a really lovely strong cup of coffee (and looking forward to the next one!) with no sugar. And a “treat” flat white the other day was so sweet with just the milk that I couldn’t imagine how I could have had sugar in it before.
So keep on keeping on – it does get better – and it’s so positive to have given it up. I worked out my normal pre-BSD sugar intake was about 800 calories a week! A day’s worth of eating!!!!!
Good luck with your whole journey.

Hi, just found this topic and so pleased you started it Izzy. Have read through all of the threads and I too have enjoyed many of the books mentioned. Particularly “Girl On The Train” !
I have just taken The Alchemist off the bookcase (The Pilgrimage is waiting too), these were my husbands books but can’t wait to read them now.
I have to finish my local “Book Club” book first – The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. A good read so far.
I have also ordered two audio books this morning – A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled by Ruby Wax (Izzy) and We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver (a few of you). Also just pre-ordered the new BSD recipe book.
Putting my purse away now. -
Jumped on the scales this morning and the holiday three-quarters of a pound is gone and another quarter pound also – so have taken a tiny step off the plateau at last! Yesterday did 698 calories and 31 carbs – wasn’t hungry at all.
-
I agree about the need to have another project.
OH and I are researching all sorts of recipes which have come out of BSD discoveries. I found chillis and curry and many spices were so delicious along the way so we are exploring Indian cookery and revitalised our spice drawer ( you know, the one with 5 year old jars in). I am planning on creating my own homemade dhansak, which is my go-to takeaway dish. Have bought mustard oil on the net which makes the flavour very authentic.
Also started grinding our own coffee beans as we have really enjoyed our morning coffee. Still in experimental stages with that and glad to have scales conveniently to hand as we try to convert bean quantities from well-established ground quantities.
But whether you’re like Izzy with her extra energy and enthusiasm for her craft projects, or someone who’s always wanted to do more exercise and now feels able to do classes, or start running or swimming without so much struggle and embarrassment, I think we should all consider what we can use our BSD gains of aliveness to do to enhance our lives.
Given OH and I are now up at 6.30 each morning even at weekends, we’ve gained extra hours too!

on 4 Sep 2016 at 08:04 in Starting the BSDSuch a useful lesson. I found that a couple of glasses of wine really gave me the munchies.
So if I am planning on drinking, I also plan lots of sparkling water in between sips of wine (actually adds to rhe pleasure of the wine, I find) to dilute it all. Then I also have potential post wine snacks – cheese rather than handfuls of nuts – and then the “damage” isn’t so depressing.
You won’t have done yourself much harm – and having a plan how to work round that inevitable drink will really help for the future. I should think really positively about it!
I’m now on maintenance and whilst for some reason – still working on why this is – I get late evening munchies, I am munching on far better stuff (cherry tomato and cheese anyone?) than I would do before.
Have a good week and congratulate yourself. It’s all a learning curve! π

on 4 Sep 2016 at 07:27 in Starting the BSDWell this weekend was not my best work…i drank on Friday night , felt terrible and ate to make myself feel better..but it made me feel worse!! Lesson learned and back into it today. I had no loss over week 2 or 3 so was feeling a bit over it. Carbs remain under 40gm and drinking heaps of water.
I want to drop a kg this week!
I see others have been finding the weight lose has stalled or is slow…I may be one of these.
Good luck all.

Hi
congratulations on JOTF Lucky.
I still have to go thru the piles of stuff that I bought home from the storage unit last week!I was at my sisters again yesterday – it was cold in the evening so borrowed a jumper – first one I tried FITTED! No searching for a large one.
my sister is my half sister, so no particular size similarities between us, and until probably the last 10-15 years, she was a size ten or twelve, so quite odd to fit into her clothes!Did a nice walk in the afternoon, organised by a local village fete (local to my sister and the village next to the one where my storage unit is). It seemed odd to organise an activity that was going to take a large group of people away from the fete itself, but it was nice to do a walk without having to look at maps because it was so well marked out, and marshals at strategic points along the route – although the signage was so good we didn’t really need them.
Got there very early, so had first dibs on the book stall and a beetroot muffin (carby I know but not sweet or iced, and more fairy-cake size than giant muffin. And it was very nice!)
Just had a look at a recipe and I think it would have been about 25g of carbs – so not too horrendous.when I got home the walking book that I ordered online in the week of Hampstead Heath had arrived, so will have a look at that today and take it with me when I go on Tuesday, and walk in the afternoon after the Nordic lesson with a bit more purpose.

on 4 Sep 2016 at 06:30 in Welcome to the BSDI’ve had the same – excellent – optician for the last 20 years and annual eye tests, although only diagnosed as diabetic a couple of years ago.
My distance vision was only ever slightly impaired but I’d had glasses for driving at night for a few years. I was surprised that my vision improved had improved & the optician said I no longer needed them. He did give me a very long explanation, but essentially saying it wasn’t uncommon for vision to improve once blood sugar issues are resolved.
Sadly I still need reading glasses though. -
At 14st 12lb and 5ft 7in I am an obese 42yr old woman with a BMI of 32.5.
My healthy weight range is 8st 6lb to 11st 6 lb, none of which I have read in my scales for over 25 years!
I’m a full time working mum of 2 boys (8 & 5)
I am:
Depressed
Overweight
Exhausted
Irritable
– With an under active thyroid & 1 in 3 breast cancer risk ( due to family history)
– a history of dieting all with varying success followed by a re-expanding waistlineI lead a busy life and use a Fitbit. My target is 12000 steps which I rarely miss. I frequently reach 15000 or more.
I need a fresh start!!
29 Sept 2016
I started fasting. -
Linda, I do so agree about the tendency to feel a bit anticlimactic when you reach your target. Part of the buzz of losing weight for me has always been the “oh aren’t you doing well, how much weight have you lost this week?”. When you “stay the same” it’s all a bit flat. This was always my problem with SW and WW etc. All very shallow of me, I know, but I think it’s important to work out what motivates you in order to keep the weight off.
So I think you are spot on by saying a successful mainenence program will help you and others on this site. It has become a new project for me too, and I’ve also taken up (on a very low key way!) exercises to go alongside the walking. Maybe I can improve my strength bit by bit.
I think that being aware of one’s motivators and triggers to lapsing is key and it sounds like you have got a real insight into what works for you. And well done on resisting the pasta and the expectation that goes with these kind of events. Very strong! You did what was right, not what was easy. -
I have loved reading your posts plumpticious, I am on day 7 of my first 8 week fasting. I have done so many diets over my life time, all with success for a given period followed by gradual re-expansion in the waist etc! Amazingly this one really suits me, yes I know it’s early days- but positive frame of mind is important!!!!, and I have already lost 8lbs. I’m going to keep watching your updates, you’re inspiring me!

I read some information on a pdf from Moorfields Eye hospital which said that Macular Oedema was caused by high blood sugars so it made sense that normalizing blood sugar levels through the BSD would help. I then read on another site that normalizing blood sugar levels would either improve it or make it worse. If it made it worse it would only be temporary and patients whose oedema got worse initially would end up ok in the end. As I didn’t know which group I would be in I was very nervous at my last eye clinic appointment. I knew very quickly that my eye was ok because when they photograph my good eye the green line that you can see before they take the photo is straight. On my bad eye it is wavy. This time on the bad eye it was straight as well. I was so relieved.
re: the cost of the eye injections – my consultant said that there is another drug that works just as well and only costs Β£50 per eye injection but the drug company won’t license it – its not hard to work out why they won’t at Β£800+ per injection. -

Hi Natalie, I’m in Aus too. I just started for the first time round yesterday. One day down and feeling good.
-
Thanks again and good tip. I forgot about the waist measurement.
Starting Stats :
Female
Height – 165cm
Weight – 82kgs
Age – 51
Waist measurement – 101cms
Bum/ Hip measurement – 111cmsDay one was good. Drank lots of water, ate avocado & ham for brunch at 3pm. For tea at 7pm I made the veggie frittata which was delicious and filling. Didn’t do any exercise as I was still stuffed from coming off night shift, today I’ll take Patty pooch for a nice long walk. Woke not feeling hungry which is great, have eaten a late-ish brekky of tuna, onion and avo, I won’t eat again until tea time. I’ll post my stats again next Sunday to see how I’ve faired. I read someone else’s post about being accountable by putting stats up for all to see, I feel the same.
To be honest I have found quitting sugar to be harder than giving up the smokes which I did some 20 years ago. -
Lynne, you so rock!! I know you’ll keep at itπ
John, you’ve hit the nail on the head. I do feel flat and don’t feel like I have a project anymore. I guess time will tell, but what I do know is that I don’t want to put the weight back on, although I’ve said that before.
Perhaps that can be my project…a successful maintenance program and then I can help others as well as they follow this journey.
Exercise will continue to factor in my day, but just walking. Our winter is not bad enough that I have to stay indoors and it’s lovely walking in the Sydney sunshine in winter.
RozyDozy, you’re right, I think doing this gradually is the way to go. I’ll weigh in weekly and if I continue to lose, I’ll up the cals a bit more, if I start to gain, I’ll drop back. Slowly and surely π
We won our softball grand final yesterday and we had a pre arranged ‘set’ dinner at our presentation night. 3 choices…pasta, pasta or pasta! The included drink…lemonade! The dessert….cake! I was so fearful of stuffing up that I ate nothing and came home and had a chicken and cheese omelette and some yoghurt! The only thing that passed my lips was water!
Onwards everyone and stay with it. It really works!
Cheers

Keep me a seat on the bus! I have dabbled the odd day and did qiite well on 5.2 diet. I will be 40 in December. I have had 4 children and have the body to prove it. Have been walking load too which I intend to keep up ! I am not weekly weighing as I get despondent on poor results but would hope that in 8 weeks I will see some results! -
What an inspiration you are, captainlynne. That is some achievement. Congratulations. Hope you’ll stay in touch with us here.

There also used to be the Dr Hay Diet based on Food Combining. I remember that the very basic principal was you should not eat carbs with protein. So no cheese sandwiches etc. Macaroni cheese etc. I remember it being quite successful.
Looking back, I think by accident, following this diet would have made people eat fewer carbs – so people were probably getting 5:2 type benefits.
Sadly I remember my Mum, back in the 60’s saying to lose a few lbs cut down on bread and potatoes and me (grumpy, plump teenager) arguing with her that her advice was not modern and not scientific and fat was the problem not carbs. 1 gram of fat has XXX calories and all that mantra.
Took me a lifetime and on Horizon programme to slowly start to correct myself. -
Thanks Ruth – I think even 8.5 stone was too light (I’d been ill). I’ve a passport style photo taken at that time – I say it could be used to scare naughty children! LOL.
That’s why I think 9 to 9.5 stone. Just waiting to see how it goes when I hit 9st 7lbs.
I’ll start getting the cyber food ready for the cyber partyπ
-
captainlynne fantastic pics. Lovely collar bones and look at the chin. I think maybe 7 stone could be TOO thin -lol. I think we need a cyber party for you
Christine, I have a long way to go. Just getting to mini goals. I do have JOTF, one does up but is still too tight, and there are 2 others I have not even tried yet. One pair cost me $3 in a one hour sale years ago.Beautiful jeans. One $3 pair fit me and is long since worn out. The other is still in the cupboard, waiting…..PatFraser, remember quite a bit of that 11 pounds was fluid, so the fat now has to catch up. As everyone says that was a mega start and you will go on. Just keep on keeping on.

I didn’t have any new photos until I was in York a few days ago. Now I know how to post photos I’ll try to post the 2 old photos I found yesterday. Not too recent, but give an idea of what size I was.
You’re doing really well π Please keep posting your progress.

Hi Christine
Glad the links worked. I found 2 old photos yesterday. When I go on the pc I’ll see if I can post them too. Scary!
York was great, and so was the weather – didn’t need a cost all week, and could sit in Museum a Gardens – that’s where the birds of prey were. The one I’m holding is a barn owl. He must have thought I was a mouse because he kept pecking meπ±
Sounds like you’ve had a good day. I’m tired after all the walking/shopping/travelling. So went food shopping. Much black coffee later I’m awake – but ready for my bed. Just watching a rather silly Midsomer Murders!
I’ll post when that pound disappears, and start the new thread. Already prepared new notebook readyπ
-
There we go, the Jeans of the Past must go! I sort my wardrobe about once every four weeks now, and the left hand side is ‘nearly’ in size order from ‘almost’ to ‘HA!’ π But I got rid of another bin bag of stuff the other day!

Freudian slip there!! SLEEP well x

Wow captain Lynne,
Great to see photos of you and you look amazing! You have come so far and been an inspiration to so many of us and I really appreciate your still logging in here and letting us know how you’re doing it!
I’m doing really great as well and I’m now down 84 pounds, 54 on BSD in the last four months I think.
I’m trying to catch up on everybody’s post as often as I can but have been only getting in here once a week!
Still going strong on the program and wishing everybody the best!

Not such a good day calorie wise 1300 but carbs 47 so like you Jackieppp, I feel I need to read the book again. We need to get it firmly under our belt. Fatsecret says I have 52lbs to lose, it sounds better in lbs than stones!! Had 1/2 avocado, 2 dry fried eggs, 1 slice ham and cooked mushrooms for brunch and for dinner smoked mackerel, salad with 60g butter beans and homemade oil and vingar dressing. 3 coffees throughout the day. Been pootling about all day so lots of exercise, walking, lifting etc, but not many calories burned. Weight stayed the same today, but with calories not as low as they should be it would, wouldn’t it?!! Hows it going with the grandkids?
DiviB – thanks for the advice. Just can’t bring myself to drink goats milk or eat goats yogurt, but love goats cheese. Kick back to childhood!!! I have found my mouth gets very dry so am drinking quite a lot, but having read your comments have decided to measure water into a jug for personal use, so I know I am having enough. I have uploaded food for the last 2 days onto Fatsecret so when I have sometime I will sit down and study where I can make changes.
Bfn, slerp well. See you ll tomorrow! -
Hi Imogen and lucky Maneki,
Oh right! Jeans of the future, I have loads of them, I did actually do a lot of sorting today and sent two black bags of stuff to the charity shop, they were all clothes that are now too big!
I have a nice little pile of clothes that I am waiting to fit into, mostly trousers that I can’t get over my thighs!
It now makes total sense! Doh I’m kicking myself now, it’s so funny! Thanks for putting me out of my misery!
Christine. -
Hi Lynne,,
Great photos! Did you enjoy yourself in York, it looks like you were getting acquainted with a lovely owl! The first time we went to York was before we were married, we were visiting university friends of David’s, we were going round York during the day talking about what we would do in the evening, and we were also being told things about York. We thought the ‘bars’ they were talking about were actually bars as in pubs, it was so funny when we found out what the bars really were!
I have had a very productive day today, between the three of us we have finished tidying my work room, stored a wardrobe full of Angela’s clothes that she doesn’t want at the moment but wants to keep, we have bagged them up in vacuum packs and they are now in the loft. She has cleaned her room!!!!! I have then finished cleaning my kitchen store cupboards and got the Christmas cake ingredients sorted, I have to make the Christmas stuff for the rest of the family.
I’m still not settled with my weight, I am as you know having a relaxed time, plus experimenting with eating some (normal) foods, I will weigh myself on Wednesday morning to see what my weight is, I am going to start the bsd again when the girls and Angela go back to school and (for Angela) the botanical gardens. I’m sure the last half stone will fall off.
Good luck with your last pound!

Hi Christine,
JOTF = jeans of the future.
Those old favourite jeans that we hang on to…even when we can’t do them up…or that create a huge muffin top when done up…or the ones that you can’t get past your thighs…or the pair we bought in a smaller size in the sales in the hope of slimming into them…the ‘ when I lose a few pound’s’ pair!!!π»

Christi – They’re ‘Jeans of the Future’ – that pair of jeans most of us have that don’t fit. Now most of us have pairs that fit π
