Wow Bill, 7lbs in 4 days is brilliant. Great news on the blood sugar readings as well.
My blood sugar reading today is the lowest ever since starting the diet 3 weeks ago 4.5. Four weeks ago I had blood taken and they checked my HbAc1 level which at the time I found out today was 48 so four weeks ago I was officially a diabetic. I saw the doctor who said he would repeat the test in two weeks after the start of the diet, I told him about the book at the first appointment. I got the results today and they are now 40. The doctor was amazed and asked me to email him the link to the website. He told me to book in around July for a follow up test just to make sure. But he declared me no longer a diabetic, especially after I showed him my fasting blood glucose levels for the past three weeks.
This does work!
Good luck everyone

Hey Pinay, stick with it !!!
I had a day when my sugar reading, rather than go down, shot up from 9.8 to 12 !!! I persevered and after a couple of days it sorted itself out.
the weight loss “plateau” is a well known phenomonen. Just keep going, you’ll get there. -

that’s why I refuse to have scales in the house. I’ve seeen too many people lose confidence in their diets by getting weighed too often. I now use the scales at my local pharmacy weekly, it gives me a chance to see a weight loss and gives me a few more steps to walk.
For the record I started the diet last Monday and had my first weigh on Monday night. Saturday morning I had lost 7 pounds and blood sugar fasting reading down from 9.8 to 7.1 with a bed time reading under 5 now.
Their are some amazing results being recorder by people on this forum, that can only be of benefit to new users so keep em coming folks. 🙂 -
Morning, I would listen to your body, if your not hungry then stick to the 800 cals. But maybe if you have pushed yourself doing exercise a few more would probably be ok. But maybe you should ask Michael on Twitter.
Good luck -
Hello everyone,
3 weeks in and I am 10lbs lighter and lost an inch off my waist. But the biggest news is that my HbA1c level is now 40! It was 48 only four weeks ago. My fasting blood glucose level this morning is 4.5 down from 8. The weight is probably a little slow due to not being able to exercise properly due to having fibromyalgia. But I am over the moon with my results so far.
Good luck everyone

on 8 Feb 2016 at 09:24 in Welcome to the BSDI have just started on the program and find no real problem sticking to 800 cal’s per day. My question is if I burn, let’s say 800 cal’s per day undertaking exercise does my daily calorie alawance increase or remain static.

Good for you Ddraig, perhaps you could get your partner to add some new recipes to the site, as a chef he may have some ideas and he will know about carbs calories etc., when he asks “what are we having for dinner” tell him to make something up that will fit in with the BSD
It’s a great diet and I too am trying to get rid of 4 stone, and have lost a good few pounds already(10lbs in three weeks) are either of you diabetic??
GOOD LUCK TO YOU BOTH. -
Both my partner and I are about 4 st over weight, the difficulty is, he’s a chef and is constantly surrounded by food at work. He thinks about it all the time, I can guarantee that just after breakfast he will say “what are we having for dinner” he also eats and serves up, what he calls “chefs portions” sigh..
I’m in no way using him as an excuse for my weight gain, he just hasn’t helped lol
So, today I start the first day of the next 8 weeks..
I’m 5’3 (same as my partner) and weighing in at 186lbs
Aweigh we go 😉

Weight the same today but lost a bit of fat. My tummy wodge looks smaller too. Bsg 6.3 this morning so very pleased. Told oh off for leaving chocolate in the kitchen. Thinking about getting a lockable box for that and the biscuits!

Hey guys, I always planned to make Saturday my weigh day so I wasn’t expecting much this week as I had my first weigh on Monday teatime. I was shocked to see that I have lost 7 pounds in 4 days !! More importantly, fasting blood sugar reading is down to 7.1 from 9.8. I’m really happy with that 🙂
Ali, you’re doing great my friend, keep it up. Wobbly, ok so you don’t have the blood sugar motivation, but the way you can lose weight on this diet should be more than enough to keep you going -
I keep a daily log of weight, steps done, calories eaten and BMI. I have found there may be one or two days when my weight has not dropped but suddenly on third the scales show I have lost over a pound. It’s happened twice now so I’m no longer discouraged when I fail to show a weight loss for a day or two (scales measure ounces as well as stones and pounds). I have noticed that on days I do a lot more steps as well as keeping my calories inside the 800 I do tend to show a bigger weight loss. Not always easy to fit in over 5000, and rarely manage 10k +. I started on 20th January so more than a week in.
Let’s all keep it up as this is really working. Like Notsosweet said this plan is a doodle after doing the 5:2 -
Yes I have the same question
-
I survived the first week. Managed to lose 5.5kg (12 pounds). Haven’t done the measurements but my work trousers were definitely a bit looser this morning than they were last Monday morning. Blood sugars aren’t dropping yet but I think that will take a while for me as have been a diabetic for more than 12 years and have a lot of weight to lose (approx 50kg or 8 stone). Am finding this eating plan a doddle. Great healthy food and I’m not feeling deprived. First few days were a bit rough but lots of water and hot cups of tea helped get over it. I’m not expecting this sort of weight loss to continue but its a great start to a new way of life for me.

posted by Pinay on Feedback Day 13 BSG Result but weight loss stalled any ideas?
on 7 Feb 2016 at 23:22 in Fast 800I’ve also stalled both on BS and weight-loss. Thanks for tips here. I caught a cold at the start of week 2 and have been nursing a cough that keeps me awake or wakes me up in the middle of the night. Been going on for more than a week now. So maybe that’s the reason my blood sugar isn’t coming down. Anyway, will try to go back to strictly counting calories and increasing exercise. I am now starting my 4th week. Btw, if my diabetes is genetic (3 out of 4 siblings have diabetes), will I still be able to reverse it?
-
Just finished the book. Tomorrow is day one. Really excited to start. Will be weighing and measuring tomorrow and would like to keep you all informed on how I do. I am 40 years old and have had T2 since Jan 2003. I need to reduce the meds I’m on as I currently have to take
2 x 1000mg Metformin
4 x 30mg Gliclazide
1 x 100mg Sitagliptin
Lantus Solostar insulin as required at night.Plus meds for high blood pressure & chlosterol.
Got plenty of monitoring to do whilst concentrating on the new meds ….. My diet lol.
You are all inspiring me to stick to this diet and to lose some weight.
-
Thanks, Penny. I’m giving myself 10 weeks to reverse my diabetes, which is type 2 and genetic. I know there will be ups and downs.

on 7 Feb 2016 at 22:57 in Welcome to the BSDWell…here goes! I love Michael Moseley and yes, I DO trust him! I’m waiting for the BSD book to arrive before I decide how to start. My biggest fear is failure. If I can’t do this, I’m not sure where I go next. There was a 12yr age difference between my parents but Mum died 3mths before her 60th and Dad died 1mth after his 60th. I’m 62 in September and after a heart attack in 2010, I can definitely hear the clock ticking! 😱😏
I was diagnosed T2 at 40 when checking in to hospital for a gall bladder op. The nurse was so excited – she’d never diagnosed diabetes before! I just wanted to run like hell!! I was about 1st overweight and started on diet only, then moved on to Metformin and pee sticks, which went off the scale (black) every time! After following NHS diet advice and gaining couple more stone, I was put on insulin to use in conjunction with the ‘healthy’ diet. So here I am 20 odd years later, 5ft tall and weighing 14st!!
The posts on this forum are inspiring and fill me with hope. It’s so good to see all the support people offer each other. Might need that support as I’m a carbaholic!
So, as I say…here goes! See you all on the other side – in a good way! 🙌🙌 -
Hello, I read the whole of the book today and found the website and forum. Yeay! Everyone is so positive and doing so well. I’m keen to start too, so I’ve given myself a whole week to plan meals then find and recharge my fit bit, and I expect to start 16 Feb. I’m going to try a few recipes this week to get a taste of what to expect. I wondered if you experienced folk out there know of any threads about substituting foods? I know that doesn’t sound quite the spirit but I don’t like coconut and whilst I’ve previously used olive oil or gluten free flour instead, I don’t know if I will be missing out on nutrients if I make the wrong substitute. Keep up the fantastic work, I’m looking forward to following in your footsteps soon.

on 7 Feb 2016 at 22:14 in Welcome to the BSDHi Mooster! I’m waiting for the BSD book to arrive so not started yet. I take 150mgs Thyroxine a day – amongst various other meds. Should be interesting to follow how we each get on and whether we react differently etc. This could make a huge difference to our lives 🙂 fingers crossed. Good luck x

Hi everyone,
great to see you are all doing well. Love the tummy wodge phrase – mine seems to be slightly smaller too.
Week 1 – 3.8 kgs weight loss, 3cm off my waist. Blood sugars back into the normal level. It was all fairly easy, not hungry at all.
Week 2 – .4kgs loss, waist the same. This week was much more difficult. A bit of eating fatigue set in as I was eating too many of the same meals for convenience. I need to make an effort to try some different recipes. I broke down one evening and had a small bowl of popcorn that turned into the bag – so I’ve learnt how easily a taste can turn into a binge.
I did try on a pair of pants I couldn’t fit into yesterday – and now I can put them on – so I am very determined to continue and am looking forward to this week. I want to add some more exercise in this week and see how that goes. -
Hello Wobbly
Did the Almond butter have the textureof butter, could you spread it, I have just made some and its nothing like ‘butter’, should it be???
Tastes lovely though!! -
Good luck Niffer and womble1920!

Hi. Does anyone know what the carb/protein/ fats ratios should be on this diet? I want to update Myfitnesspal with the right percentage split if possible. Thanks.
-
Hi Hopeful
I have just bought a book called ‘Carbs and Cals’, which lists hundreds of foods and ingredients. Its basically just a book full of all the nutritional values of just about every food you can think of. Its available on Amazon, and there is a pocket version as well. It has been invaluable to me, as I have also struggled a bit putting in all the details to MyFitnessPall. Hope that helps. -
Niffer…lots of people on her use the Myfitnesspal app….great for doing the calorie counting…best of luck

Hi. I am starting tomorrow, I want to get going. I am hoping I won’t feel wobbly on 800cals. Anyway good luck to all, wherever you are on your journey

on 7 Feb 2016 at 19:28 in Welcome to the BSDI have some fuzzy feelings and light headaches in the evenings but nothing too bad. I did yard work for 3.5 hours yesterday and my blood sugar level was great afterwards. I am so sick of feeling the way i do now and taking ever increasing amounts of medication that I am committed to sticking with this for as long as it takes. I am originally from England and my mother sent me the book after hearing so much about it over there. I am so glad she did as the book explained what was going on in my body so well and gave me hope and understanding of what needed to be done. I’m also writing this as a way of reinforcing my commitment. I have had type 2 diabetes around 10 years now along with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and, now, problems sleeping. I have 20 to 25 lbs to lose. I’ll post my progress and read other peoples progress to stay motivated! Thanks everyone!

Hi, I’m using “PhD” protein diet shake powder. It contains green tea, which helps with weight loss. I use them not only as a rehydration drink with water when I finish in the gym, but also as a meal replacement. When I do that I use almond milk. ( not the unsweetened variety, it’s thin and tasteless). It’s calorie count is way below that of milk and it mixes well. Try the Bakewell tart flavour, it’s lovely.

Hi HelenD,
I look forward to sharing and comparing with you, it will be good to use this site as a support. I feel so determined, I am planning this like a military operation! Photos & measurements taken, new note book for stats etc. Ready for th big weigh in tomorrow! -
Hi Aliba
I’m not bad at putting together healthy meals, it’s just calorie counting I find hard work. Especially as I want really good weight loss in the first month. I think there are some good Low GI diet recipies out there, I hope they should fit in ok with this plan. At least I like exercise. Thanks for your tips, I will look at people meal records they have posted. -
Just taken got m husband to take some ‘before’ photos of me, they are shocking! At least I will have something to compare my skinny photos with…her will be skinny photos! Will check starting weight tomorrow, but was 14st 12.25lb this morning. I’m 5’7″, size 18, 45″ stomach measurement. I have three weeks before being measured for new work uniform so I hope I can drop a fair bit of weight to start. After that I have less pressure asmy Son’s wedding is 12th August so want to buy outfit in July. I lost 50lb 5years ago with Weight Watchers and went down to a size 10/12 and kept it off 2 years until had to move in with my Mum for 7months looking after her prior to her death. Being away from home and stress and doing my back in just finished me off, boy did I comfort eat! So excited to know I will be a size 14 again, I plan to be an easily maintainable weight so happy to drop 2 dress sizes. Looking forward to Monday morning.

Wow! fantastic – well done you

I almost fell off the scales.
Lost 16 pounds in 2 weeks!!

Hi Niffer
I’m a rubbish planner and not a great cook so tend to stick to easy things. I have made lots of stir frys using Turkey breast or chicken, steak etc a little coconut milk, soy or fish sauce , some chilli flakes and lime juice. I serve it with pak choi, tender stem broccoli or cabbage also stir fried.
If you are serving someone not on the diet just add rice or noodles.
I posted my first week on here somewhere, think it’s called what to eat.
Anyway good luck all -

on 7 Feb 2016 at 17:10 in Welcome to the BSDHello everyone. I started the 800 diet 12 days ago , and to date have lost 9 lbs. I am about three stone overweight and this diet is perfect for me. I am not diabetic or pre-diabetic that I know of, but I think this diet is one that seems healthy and balanced and if it prevents me from developing diabetes that can only be good. I have enjoyed reading everyone’s posts, and am looking forward to trying more of the lovely recipes. I am dairy and gluten intolerant and happily these recipes don’t contain gluten, and I substitute soya or nut milk products if required. Good luck everyone !

I just made the almond butter and apple recipe – sooo easy! Apparently, cinnamon can help with weight loss and BSL so I added a good shake of ground cinnamon to the nut butter portion I had with the apple and it was delish.

Does cloud bread work without sweeteners ? I really dont like them (nor sweet tasting bread )

posted by Clare (BSD Admin) on Is anyone on the diet who has hypothyroidism?
on 7 Feb 2016 at 14:56 in Welcome to the BSDI can’t see any reason why you shouldn’t do the Blood Sugar Diet if you are also taking Thyroxine. Diabetes and Hypothroidism are often associated, but if your levels are Ok and you are not getting thyroid related symptoms, you should be fine. As Hopeful says – ‘no bad effects, only good ones, like losing 10lbs!!!’ for which congratulations !
-
I’m starting on Monday too. I’ll definitely be planning ahead and aim to start with some of the easy recipes. I think lunches for work are the most challenging but will aim to either prepare salad with meat/fish or take a homemade veg soup and heat it at work. Breakfasts will mostly be yogurt based or egg with avocado I think. Shouldn’t be too hard to stick to the meat/fish and veg for dinner but the main problem I think I’ll have is portion size to ensure I don’t go over the 800 cals. Will be using Myfitnesspal to log everything so hope that will work. Good luck to everyone starting tomorrow!
-
Looking forward to finding you all there!
I know it’s early days for us all but do any of you have any idea what kind of macro ratio we should be aiming for? The default 50% carbs is probably too much isn’t it?
Today so far mine are 74% fat, 22% protein and 4% carbohydrate (based on a cheese and onion omelette for brunch).
Haven’t started the diet proper yet but beginning to follow the principles. Waiting to start it with my mum over half term and I will be curious to see what the macros look like!
Would anyone care to share their recent macro stats? -
I have also read the book and keen to get started it is breakfast I am struggling with as I don’t like eggs! Also nevber have a lot of time before work in the am.

posted by bruce on any other long term diabetics using this programme?
on 7 Feb 2016 at 14:19 in Fast 800Hi all, I’m about to start the programme this week and feel extremely positive about it. Have just finished the book and it seems that when someone has had diabetes longer term, the ‘reversal’ will probably be less dramatic. Having had diabetes for 21 years now, and longterm insulin for 6 or 7, I don’t want to have any unrealistic expectations but would love to look forward to reducing my medications – metformin and levemir – along with losing more weight. Has anyone else any experiences to share? Cheers!

Fantasic weight loss, Bernie, Yes I am looking forward to another week also ..( I think I may be another pound down now also 🙂

I thought about a sprialiser, but then its just another kitchen gadget to store so I got a juleinne peeler instead .. it does the same thing , but is much cheaper ( mine was £3.99 ) and you can store it in the cutlery drawer!
