    Hello Leanne
I just love the Middle Eastern recipe, it is only 90 cals, and is yum, I did find planning ahead helpful to me.
I make a lot of my own veg soups which I count the calories of all the vegetables I put into the pot. They usually come out at around 100 calories for a big pan full, which does me and my husband for a couple of days. Then I can have a few more calories with my dinner dish.
    Hope this helps you.

    Hi Rose and Ella
    Many thanks for the replies.
Rose, great achievement and I’m glad your approach is working well for you. Stick with it !!! Let em know how you are getting on xx
Ella I have been doing burst exercise and you’ll find once you start with the the rowing you’ll have more energy and sleep even better. The fluid in take may account for no weight shift in three days?? But I’m certain once you start with the exercise the weight will shift. Xx

I struggle with a work life balance but am now incorporating quick bursts of exercise either at work, whilst commuting or a quick walk with short sprints around my block (that way I can run indoors if it pours) !!

Let me know how you get on this week xx

    Hi Teej,
It seems that most people are going to plateau at some stage or other, that’s what I get from the forums. But don’t be too hard in yourself – your body is genuinely sick at the moment. Your mind’s priority might be to lose weight but I think your body has more pressing issues just now. Eat to boost your immune system and be kind to yourself, the rest will follow. The flatbreads are really quick to make and the coconut flour will help you.

Hi Rach19c – are you the lady from Mumsnet? If so I think the forums on this site will help you, might be an idea to start your own chat as there are so many streams & many are quite complex with all sorts of sub-streams and q&a developing. As you areT1 and have been for a while might be an idea to flag this to a broad audience although there are some amazing people in this stream Bill started – I have read the lot since joining and my head is buzzing with ideas.

Someone posted that we are pioneers and that is true, there will be ups & downs and everyone is different, I am learning fast. I know that T1 have very specific issues, but healthier eating & making good food a lifestyle as opposed to a diet has to be better in the long-term. It is great that your nurse is supportive – how are you on the exercise front ? I am no gym bunny (I wish I could!!) but do try to get on my bike, walk & have signed up for aqua aerobics (this is for more mature ladies, hope I don’t displace too much water when I get in the pool…….) what Hawkeye says is very true, shifting fat reserves is key & giving them a healthy kick up the bum is a good way to start!

    Good luck!

    Hi Onphone
This sounds fine. I didn’t have extreme hunger either. The less appetite seems to be standard. I think the science is that the carbs put your blood sugar up then down then you were hungry again. Now the carbs aren’t there to do that and you’re burning stored fat.
Great isn’t it! We re all amazed that here’s a diet that works better, much better, than others we ve tried and is easy to do.
We all tend to find it weird but wonderful.

    Hello Lou
I generally follow some recipes in the book, other times I just weigh out my own veg and cook some fish or meat, and count the calories to as near to 800 in a day.
Just as long as I stay to the 800 mark in a day, I am happy with that, it works very well for my husband and I.

Hi. I’m over the 8 weeks. I asked the team and they said it was ok to continue on 800 calories for a few weeks if I felt OK and had no problems.

Last Daturday I had done 11 weeks. I’ve been on holiday since Monday so just eating low carb.

I’ll check my weight and fasting BG tomorrow and report back on my other thread. But I will go back on 800 calories for a while yet as I have lots more weight to lose.

    Hope this helps.

Welcome to the club Hashimoto 😃

Just back from holiday and catching up. Will post properly tomorrow, when I’ve weighed and checked fasting BG.

All I can say for now is I’ve avoided carbs (as far as I could tell), eaten protein and veg and walked miles.

Believe it or not, I bought a 6″ sub from Subway (long story), ate the meat & salad then threw away the bread. Today I left the airport without grabbing something because I just wanted to get the train home. When I changed trains I needed food. Only choice was sandwich, chocolate or crisps. So I bought a BLT, ate the B and some T, and threw away the rest!!!!!

That’s all for now folks. Need to catch up with myself, and get some rest.

    Will write properly tomorrow..

    Night all 😃

Well done you have done so well, but I would suggest to carry on for another week or two and see if your waist measures what you want to see then.
I am on my third week, and I know I need to put in more exercise. Get more steps done in any one day.

    Hi,
    Yoghurt and apple for breakfast.
Salad and cottage cheese at lunchtime. The salad was 24 calories.
    Carrots and chicken for tea.
The pistachio nuts I bought last night, small bag of 100 Grams. I thought, I will have them but guess what, for the second time today, I looked at the label, the bag is 620 calories. WHAT, for that little bag, I thought they were healthy. So I have had seven little ones, not the whole bag . It just shows you.

So I think I am in the right frame of mind, I think I can cope with the change of food, I think I am able to actually realise what I am eating. Most important of all, it is not torturous, it feels nice.
Day one, 12th March I am ready, forwards to the month of May
    Love Sue. Xxxx

Re gram flour drop scones – no sugar of course – I use 80 g gram flour, an egg, 50 ml soya milk. Stir it a lot. Drop spoonfuls onto oiled frying pan. Turn over when bubbles appear.

There should be a ‘Contact us’ link at the bottom of the page perhaps where you send your question. All the best.

So, my 8 weeks is up tomorrow…….
24.5 lbs (might have been a bit more but I stumbled more than once!!).
    5 inches from my waist.
Fasting sugars down from around 14 to 5.5. Waiting an hba1c test.
Dropped my sitagliptin and forxiga tablets altogether.
Metformin down to 1 tablet per day (used to be 3).

My waist is still higher than considered healthy, and so far the only new item in my wardrobe is new shoes! Just my luck, i seem to be shrinking from the feet up!!

So, where to go from here……….suggestions welcome, please!

    Hi all

It’s been nearly two weeks since I had those glorious 5.6 and 5.5 levels and I miss seeing them. I’ve been deliberately avoiding taking any readings so as not to face any disappointment but did it tonight before dinner and was at 8.5. I wasn’t feeling too bothered though after discovering everyone else is getting the same problem. I don’t feel so alone! I guess it’s just going to take longer than I hoped. Keep positive everyone. We can do this.

Sounds like you are keen to get started woofmum and there is lots of support and tips on the forums so make the most of them. It wouldn’t hurt to make a start cutting out sugar and starchy carbs before the book arrives, to start getting you body ready for your new eating regime, but be sure to read the book when it arrives, as it will help you to understand the changes you need to make, to achieve your goal.

Good luck with it and do let us know how you get on.

  • Hi kiwi, although I have finished the 8 weeks i am continuing for a while longer while slowly building the calories. I doubt I will go back to eating carbs the way I used to – it clearly didn’t do me any good. In future things like potatoes will be a very rare treat same with rice just a small spoon of brown rice with a curry, but feel i do t need it as i like the gram flour flatbreads 🙂

Hey Lolo – the general wisdom is that if you are sticking to the 800 cals it will happen. I am almost at the end of week 3 now and so far this week, I’m down 1lb. I’m not stressing about it though, ‘cos I feel better and my body is looking less bulky, which will keep me going until more pounds drop. Losing inches any where shows something must be happening, so use that to keep positive and motivated, the rest will follow I’m sure.

    Hi everyone,
Well done everyone on their weight loss. Really helpful to be reading this thread. I am in week 4 and have only dropped 2.5lbs over the previous 1.5 weeks… Topping that, I also haven’t lost any inches around my waist! I have been loosing from my thighs, bum and boobs!! *sigh* However it has to eventually start coming off again and from my waist, right?! Been helpful to read these posts. Thanks x

Lidl do a 10% full fat Turkish yogurt which is fab – 111cals per 100g, but because of the higher fat content you don’t need a lot to give a satisfied feeling.

Thank you folks for your responses. It looks like I’m on the right track. Cherrianne I feel the same way about Quorn, but love your idea with sunflower seeds. Thank you. Jackfruit is another thing I have used a couple of times but maybe too processed. The mushroom options work well for me too. Cheers.

Also, although the book has a lot of different breakfast options, it would expensive to make them all. I’ve just chosen a couple (either an omelette, or full fat yoghurt with fruit) and make sure I have the stuff in the fridge, and just alternate between them as I feel like it. People are generally used to having the same thing to breakfast every morning, so that is no stretch.

I think learning to cook with fresh ingredients is a bit of a learning curve if you’re not used it. It takes a bit of experience to learn how to use leftover fruit and veg in different ways (soups and salads are always good, just throw in what you have!) so that it both doesn’t go to waste and you don’t get bored.
Takes a while, but you’ll get the hang of it.

Hi Rach19c, I was interested in your info because my son is Type 1 and I wondered if he would benefit from this diet so he could reduce his insulin. I have been on it because I was getting high blood glucose but was not yet diabetic so a panic to get rid of my belly (I had also had a gall bladder removal and when you get photographs of your visceral fat its mighty alarming). I too have plateaued which is very frustrating. Its possibly because I am getting a bit blase and not taking so much care, or that my body is trying to hang on to the fat I have left! One of the best ways I have found for moving it on is to do exercise, so I do a 20 min intense training cd (only on level one because I am unfit) or I go for a walk/run for 20 minutes. I do it before breakfast so I force my body to use my fat reserves. I find this gets the weight loss going again. I would also say dont give up because once you get to your target weight, you will have the knowledge of how to stop it from creeping up again.

I can see where you are coming from mad medic, as it is much cheaper to have a ham sandwich or beans on toast instead of salmon salad or fish with vegetables. The same is true of potatoes instead of loads of veg and I know I have spent more on food since I have been on this diet but I am very lucky that i have an aldi very close to where I live. But having said all that I hope you dont feel you have to abandon the diet because I am sure in time, like me, you will find it is the best thing you can do for your health. Do keep logging onto the forums because there is lots of really good support and help. Good luck to you and your wife.

Oh sugar. It didn’t. I didn’t want to take over bills discussion.
Is it best I start my one chat?

I am a female, type 1 for all my life, now mid 40’s, on a pump for last 13 year.
I know it says this isn’t for t1, but I couldn’t see why. On the diabetic forums loads of people do low carb, helps the spikes in blood sugars. Many do fasting, 5:2′ so I thought I’d try.
I wanted rapid weight loss. I’ve been on it since the beginning of Jan, so more than 8 weeks. Although I haven’t always been strict. There’s been a couple of curry and wine nights!!!
I lost a stone. Great. But I’ve lost nothing for 3 weeks now. And I can’t work out why.

My diabetic pump a specialist nurse was well aware from the start, and is thrilled with my better blood sugars.
But I have another stone to lose, maybe a stone and a half left to lose. And if I’m not losing , why bother? I’m fed up now. No loss for 3 weeks.
Plus it gets on my nerves when I do go low, forced to drink lucozade, undoes all my hard work that day.
I went on MFP to log my calories. But I had been recently adding fats to things, thinking I needed it. Cream to soup, bacon bits to salad. 300 or 400 calories meant I was way over the 800!
I’m struggling to work out what’s gone wrong.

Hi folks, there shouldn’t be any problems including tempeh and tofu in your diet. I use both and just count them in my daily allowance. Quorn (ughh) should be fine too if you like it.
Some of the usual protein sources might be higher in carbs, but the legumes as opposed to grains, are more beneficial as they are usually low GI.
Sunflower seeds are low carb and quite high in protein too. If you heat a small fry pan and add a few teaspoons of soy sauce then throw in the sunflower seeds and cook until coated in the sauce ( only takes 1-2 mins), you have a great crunchy topping for salads, soups etc. they will store well in an airtight jar and make a good snack for when you fancy crisps or crackers or just something salty to munch on.
