Thank you to both Hishimoto and Spirit for the encouragement -much needed and much appreciated. I am determined to see the diet through and already know it will result in a long term change in my eating habits. I feel more vital and sleep better, although I find I need to get to bed earlier than before.

It is comforting to know that the stalling is normal and that things will begin to move in the right direction again. I’ll keep a tight reign on the calories and look forward to some more positive results soon.

I really need a list of allowed foods. I have swapped to this from Harcombe as I felt I was just constantly eating the same things. Ging to give this a try.

    Hi sunnyb,

Yes week 2 and 3 I stalled pretty much completely despite sticking to the letter of the diet. It was very frustrating.

I read that Jenny Rhule book (Β£3 on kindle) which explains why stalling happens on low carb diets. I made a few changes to my diet. some quite drastic and I wouldn’t advocate anyone else do it – i cut back for a few days on cals, about 2-3– a day. that got things moving a bit!

Stick with it, you will come out the other side smiling.

Many thanks to the three people who have replied to my message – all useful tips and hints. It is quite daunting, but I am a good planner and completer-finisher by nature, so this sounds just the ticket for me to eliminate my sugar addiction, gonna take some determination! Thanks again. πŸ™‚

Yes, Mum will be in hospital until the physiotherapists decide she can come out, and then we will need to figure out how it will work at home.

Day 16 weight 10st 9lbs ( no more has come off, but no more has gone on!). I had a bit more to eat yesterday, I had stewed blackcurrants and natural yogurt for pudding.
    Blood sugar 12.4

A curve ball problem occurred today, but I dealt with it really quickly and feel glad that I did.

I’ve made a load of ratatouille today, so will have it with some meat tonight and freeze some portions for another day. I am not a fan of chopping vegetables, but I now look upon it as a form of exercise. πŸ˜€

Have managed to stick with the 800 BSD for two whole weeks now and am starting in on Week 3. Week one went fine – no issues sticking to the 800 calories and seeing a little progress on the scales almost every day, dropping a total of 4lb in the week. However, week two proved to be a real struggle, with no evidence of any progress on the scales for almost the entire week, with 2lb lost towards the very end. Have been keeping a log of everything consumed and calculated the calories everyday, but it has been really hard to stay motivated and focussed, have managed to stick with it though.

When I did my stats this morning, it would seem that the 2lb I did lose last week was mainly from my waist, as it was a full inch smaller, which can only be to the good. I am hoping this week will not be as difficult and there will be steadier progress through the week. Am very aware that I need to move around more to help burn calories and drop pounds, but this is my ‘bete noire’ and my main area of poor motivation. I am trying to find small ways in which to increase my activity, without making too big a deal of it.

Has anyone else had a tough time in the second or third week and do you have any advise or tips? I’m determined to keep going, but it would help to know how others are managing.

Hi Jandz … welcome!! Now I am one of those lucky ones that work from home, but because of that I forget about lunchtimes etc., and only remember when there are hunger pangs … and I hate to say it, I’m not always as organised as I should be. However, I have bought lots of green veg, and this lunchtime I found some fine green beans in the fridge, which I chopped up into 2cm (or about) and put them in a microwave steamer for 4 mins. Opened a tin of tuna chunks and drained it. Then I ran the beans under cold water until chilled, mixed with my tuna and a tablespoon of mayo with a dash of vinegar, salt and pepper! Then ate every mouthful!
    Good luck x

Ok … end of week 1 … and this is where you say “And look what you could have lost if you actually stuck to it!!” πŸ™‚
No seriously, 6lb off!! Last time I lost that much in a week was when I was in a coma!! πŸ™‚
I have religiously kept off all starchy carbs … and had no sweets, or any other processed foods. I started counting calories on day 1, but realistically found that I was still eating too much and therefore averaging about 1200 cals. I have not been hungry at all, but have had no exercise at all … taken the dogs training only once … slimfit hubby has been exercising them whilst I have been chained to my desk!!
BGs have been much better!! 6.1 this morning!! I did get very close to a hypo with a bg of 3, and decided to half my insulin on one day … but that was cos I panicked … so have gone back to same dosage at the moment and just keeping a strict eye on it.
I’ve had no fruit, and stuck to meat, fish, cheese, vegetables, eggs, greek yog and berries. With the one exception … hmmm …. confession time … sugar free liquorice … “100g”, I hear you say??? Err … no … 200g!! “Did they last all week, bearing in mind the sweetener/bottom effect”??? Err … no … Saturday and Sunday evening … and I still haven’t “been” since Thursday!!! πŸ™ My hand is still smarting since you smacked it!! I feel suitably reprimanded!!
Oh, and I haven’t been drinking enough water. My thing was tea with milk and diet ginger beer. Now, its been hot water (occasionally), fruit teas, liquorice teas, creamy coffee … but only the last two days have I been having water … but its still not really been as much as I should!!
Hey, don’t get me wrong … I am actually a half full kind of gal, so am delighted with my lower bgs, 6lb weight loss and 1.5 inches off my waist … oh, I forgot to tell you that bit!!! πŸ™‚ But I know I can do better … and I will try, honest!! πŸ™‚

Thank you, you lot … you are the ones that kept me from slipping even more!! I’m gonna find my poncho out that I started crocheting some fourteen years ago … I may even finish that to keep my hands busy in the evening!! πŸ™‚ x

Ok, so I’ve just wee’d on a stick (I know,TMI) and it says I’m not in ketosis. Which is fair enough given the inordinate amount of carbs I ate yesterday (and loved eating every one of them). But that gives me a good base line to know that what I do over the next 24 to 48 hours will determine whether I achieve ketosis or not.

  • Hello Nelliewilde, There are several threads on this forum saying the same thing. Nothing from the team yet about it. I have recalculated every recipe I want to use as the majority of those I’ve checked are wrong. Frustrating and time consuming! My copy of the book is full of scribbles and crossings out – and I would never normally write in a book!

the weight loss may slow a little as you get further in but hey, that first 6 days result is a winner and will only help in motivating you

  • What good news peterking. I bet you’re pleased with those results. And losing a stone makes you feel so much better. I’m amazed at how more flexible I am already having also lost my first stone – although there are several more to go!
It is very encouraging to see the scales shift so much, and referring back to Janet1973’s comment about the difficulty of keeping motivated if you are aiming to lose weight slowly over a long period, I think this is one of the big plusses of this diet.

Have you done the blood sugar diet for 5 weeks and now moving on to the 5:2? How are you getting on? I did the 5:2 a while ago but stopped as was always hungry. I think following this plan as 5:2 makes more sense.
