Hi Janet I know what you mean, it never happened to me either. I am loving this BSD I have only felt hungry a few time, but I have found I have so much more energy after 4 weeks on this eating plan. I lost 16lb in the first 3 weeks but nothing last week, I have lost 1lb since Saturday, which I’m very pleased with. Good luck on reaching your stone.

    Hi Mumofsome
Welcome on board and well done for taking the plunge. As you say there is never a perfect time to start this but, as you read around the threads, you will see that people are managing to still have great lives and enjoy all those events and still stay on track so we have every faith in you! Let us know how this first week goes for you and use us as much as you need to.

Hey Mumofsome welcome to the forums and a whole new lifestyle
You’ve already seen some of the success stories on here, now’s the time for you to join them.
Just stick to the diet (800 cals sounds scary but it’s amazing how full you feel when eating 800 cals of the RIGHT food ) Drink lots of water, try for at least 2 ltrs a day and 3 if you can, unsweetened tea, coffee, etc can be counted, and above all, remember to get some fat into your daily food, it keeps you full and gets your body into fat burning mode.
We are all here to help you along the way so keep posting your progress and if you have any problems, just shout. (do it at night and watch what I laughingly call the “Australian Air Diet Ambulance Brigade” appear like a flash
Enjoy your next 8 weeks, It’s going to be awesome.

Same has happened to me Hawks. Nobody has commented on my weight loss, but if I mention it they say “oh, I thought you’d lost weight’. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

My uniform has gone down one or two sizes (funny how skirts get longer when you lose weight!) and they’ve also seen me in smaller trousers and new (smaller) tee shirts.

Luckily I’d kept my old uniforms as I grew out of them so can now work my way back down through them. I am disposing of the big sizes as I’ll not need them again, will I?

    Hi Trees

    Brilliant weight loss. Congratulations.

I’m another one staying longer on this and have just finished week 13.

Like Bill I can’t imagine going back to the food I used to eat, or the amount I used to eat, so I’ll be around on here for a while yet as still lots of excess baggage to lose.

I love this new way of eating. Got on the scales this morning, delighted to report that i am now exactly two stone lighter than i was at the start of this journey. Also five inches has disappeared from my waist measurement.
Still about a stone and a half to go, so may have to do about 10 weeks. But has i had one week break from 800 cals and maintained, i know that long term this is an achievable lifestyle choice.
Best wishes to everyone. Hope you all achieve your goals. It feels fantastic.

Hi there, I’ve just started today and I’m so encouraged by how well everyone on here is doing, and how supportive you are. I’ve procrastinated about doing BSD for about a month, ‘there’s never a right time to start’, ‘oh but this function is coming up’, ‘when am I going to find the time to get it all organised’ – all those rubbish excuses. But after a weekend of baking cakes with my children I’ve realised now is the time! I got my birthday coming up on Easter Sunday so it could be double trouble, but it really is now or never. Have a great week. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It does feel good to really see something happening. I’m feeling so much more positive for having that good result this morning and being able to zip the dress and feel comfortable. It’s encouraging to see the BMI coming down too – still have a way to go – being short doesn’t help that cause! After the glums last evening, today feel much sunnier.
Thank you both for the praise, even though the results feel most accidental than intentional.
Hope you are both having good results too.

Hi Sharon. I just hate that. People who don’t really try yet lose shed loads of weight! That never happens to me. No really, I am pleased for your hubby but jealous too! Well done for achieving the rosy pink stage (if your ketostix look like mine), its a very reassuring feeling to know you are burning fat. I can report another pound list this morning since Saturday and I have only been at 1.5 for most days. I am at 13.5 pounds now in 6.5 weeks – a true miracle for me. When I reach my stone you won’t need me to post, you will hear me cheering! All the best, keep posting, I find it all fascinating.

    Hi reedeen.
Have a look at my postings. You will see I was heavier than you when I started. Also you will see that I would eat Chinese takeaways and family bags of chocolate for just one meal. Millions of calories.
I am now a little way into the diet, and I no longer will murder for chocolate.
I also loved buttered toast, a whole loaf between me and hubby. On Friday I tried a half slice and it just didn’t give me the buzz I used to get, so I passed it on.
My taste buds are changing, I am trying different things. I had feta last week, I haven’t had that in many years.

I used my first week to gradually change to the diet. I thought it would be too hard going from one to the other. Again, look back at my blogs here.

But, don’t ask me about bathroom scales nor yoghurt as I hadn’t realised either of these were giving me a hard time.

I now enjoy a small tub of yoghurt and ignore the scales until my weekly weigh in.

There is a section called what did you eat today, that’s a big help for ideas.
I haven’t tried the recipes yet, I will do them when I get bored of what I am eating.

In getting out and about, I am enjoying the fresh air, probably too much. As I wax lyrical about it all.

You have done the biggest step, joining and deciding to change your diet. Congratulations. That is the big-y. Now just enjoy each day, and if you make a ‘mistake’ just acknowledge it and go passed it. I put weight on and I could have hit the chocolate big style, but I sulked for ten mins and then got my head together.

    Hope you post and share.

    Love
    Lucia

Totally agree with Bill. Nothing can take away from your success last time round. I think when the 5:2 came out, low carb high fat was still in its infancy and seen as a faddy diet. Now there is much more evidence to support it as a long term change for life. You have the choice now. You can either do what you did before – it worked but maybe didn’t give you the lifestyle changes to keep the weight off. Or you can be open to the new evidence and give it a go and see how it works for you, hopefully gaining some new lifelong habits as a bonus. Wishing you every success whichever you decide.

Hi fifip, I think I have led you up the garden path a little bit. The number from the days of yore I meant was the number 13 which you haven’t seen in 12 years! I’m definitely an old money girl too but I’m quite proud of how adept I’m getting with kilos. Although if you’ve caught some of my other posts I hopelessly confuse grams and ounces! But kilos have a nice rhythm to them 2.2lbs is 1 kilo, 4.4lbs is 2 kilos. That’s the limit of my maths capability. Like you, I am soon to see a number on the scales I haven’t seen since 2012. Can’t wait!

  • Hi Sharon,
Ironically Saturday I froze all day, to the point my daughter came in from work, (she’s a gardener) and got a blanket to put over me. Sunday I was nice and warm and today I am hot! And no it’s not the menopause! I have been through that and come put the other side ok. I haven’t a clue what’s happening to me, just hope the weight loss kicks in again soon, I am getting frustrated at the moment! Thanks for responding though, will let you know how I get on.

    Thank you,

I understand the differences between these diets but I was just wondering that the BSD was newly researched and eliminating the original 5-2 as out of date research.

I was on the 5-2 before falling off the fast train and I’m now wondering if it was all for nothing in the first place if the 5-2 has now a newer sister.

  • Hi allychat
I too am getting confused with the fat thing, however I am trying to have more olive oil, nuts, and avocado! I am doing ok on the diet, even if I have a gripe every so often, or when I am feeling down mentally, I am still not losing weight 2 lb in just over two weeks, I think the problem is you lose so much in the first four weeks, you expect it to continue, then when nothing or hardly anything happens you get all anxious, (well I do) especially as I am cooking for two others, they are happy to eat what I eat, except they have the carbs and the desserts and the odd bar of chocolate! Which is really hard, as I am not diebetic, just pre diebetic, anyway I digress! I will try and up my fat and see what happens, thanks for the tip, will let you know how I fare.

Hi Janet! – I can’t do ‘new money’ as it’s called in our house, can’t follow any recipe in grammes, has to be lbs & oz…..have to convert all recipes – that way I can always ‘see’ how much food there is & if the recipe is modest for 8 people or huge for 4. Obviously the BSD recipes are different as they are set for this diet, I just double up when my hubby is eating it with me. But honestly, outside of spoon measurements, I have no clue how much food will actually end up on the plate!!

Brilliant to read! I am nearly three weeks in – down 3 kilos – not huge but feeling good. I wonder why some people’s weight loss slower – any ideas? I started at 66.6 and now I am – was 63.1kg this morning. Its all coming off the stomach area. But yes I feel great and when i awake in the morning – thats the biggest difference i feel – I don’t feel groggy anymore and have alot more energy. I love making all these dishes and seeing how they all taste. Well done all of you – great positive encouraging posts – thank you!

  • Hi Cherianne,

Thank you for your supportive message xxx

Yes, being cold and feeling a bit anxious becuase of the environment is never a good mix. However, Sunday was much better and I brought a lovely warm scarf with me to snuggle up in.

It is interesting how we all reach for the comfort food when we feel certain forms of fear and uncertainty. I think you’re right about humans being the same in this respect. I am determined to examine my uncomfortable feelings and be present with them, instead of falling back into unconscious patterns and giving in. If I actually fancy a hamburger and chips or chocolate, or whatever, I think that’s different. I just don’t want to eat those foods with the mistaken belief that they will make me feel better or soon I will find myself stuffing down every uncomfortable feeling with food.

I was actually OK in the end.. I resisted going to the burger joint, came home, warmed up and made the Fritata which was quick and easy and exactly what I needed. I don’t eat eggs in most forms, but I do like omelette and fritata, and I think I needed that protein hit. I felt much better the next day and the craving for a hamburger and chips didn’t even enter my mind!

I will visit my health food store and see if they have proper chai tea, thanks for the suggestion!

Just to update you, the weekend turned out to be much better than I thought it would, and it was a great learning experience!

For me, (not diabetic), this has been my worst problem while on this diet. I haven’t had a problem with hunger and I’ve always had headaches (lots of stress) but I have struggled with constipation. I seem to have found the answer (for me) which is to have 30g rolled oats made into porridge (with mostly water and a splash of milk) and 2 tsps flaxseed mixed in – this is breakfast. The book says ‘rolled oats’ are ok, which confused me at first until I googled it and discovered that normal porridge oats are actually rolled oats! So I don’t have to scout about for jumbo oats, which is good news because oats can be bought very cheaply for a large bag. My OH, who is diabetic has eggs for breakfast, but was also having these problems, eats 20g of All Bran in the evening as a late “supper”, which has done the trick for him. Hope this helps someone. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well done to all of you have lost weight. I have weighed in this morning after my first week on the diet and I have lost an incredible 6lbs. Although I must say I don’t feel like I have lost that amount. Probably because I have so much to lose that it isn’t going to feel like it yet. Maybe next week. I find that I usually dip in feeling tired and hungry around 15.00hrs, I usually get a drink of warm water and that seems to satisfy me until I get home. I have cut my coffe consumption down to 3 cups a day, which is very good for me. I found the weekend a little difficult, not quite as easy as the week days. Have a good week everyone.

  • Hi Julia,

That is so lovely, thank you. I feel really uplifted by your text. A hot bath would actually have been amazing (and a great way of getting really present and thinking about whether it would be worth sabotaging the diet) but I got your message the morning after! I will keep that in mind though, I think that would be a great remedy. And since I can now actually fit comfortably in the bath (seriously!) I will make use of it.
Sunday was much better as the environment felt more familiar and I had connected with a few people. And I brought warm clothes with me! I get a bit anxious in some situations that feel unfamiliar and my default is to reach for comfort foods – I know I am not unique and this is the story for millions!

It shows how many calories, protein, carbs, fat etc eaten and can display in a chart, pie chart with coloured portions to make it an easy picture to realise the balance between fats carbs and protein.

It can no doubt do lots of other clever things but Im just learning to use it. Its not hard just me!

I will still be doing the 800 for a few weeks yet and then going on a 5;2 later, maybe. Still a lot to lose. I really don’t think I can face upping my calorie count to be honest, maybe a gradual rise in the future. HbA1c has come down to 40 but want to get it down further. Any people out there starting, thinking of starting or thinking of stopping, keep at it, have a go, do your best, follow the advice on this forum and you will win through. Onwards and downwards.

But that’s a kilo this week and you are averaging a kilo a week too. Never mind comparing to others, whatever they manage is great for them, its what you manage that matters to you and I bet this is the quickest you have ever lost weight. Hello fellow lifestyle changers, read this thread over the weekend & want to add my good wishes for a positive outcome to Auntylil.

I also have 2 questions to ask relating to what I have read about water alternatives. Hopefully someone can help me as it’s a forum about drinking.

1 ref adding a fruit tea bag to water (guess this is cold fruit tea) has anyone found any that taste of anything that don’t have the weeny capsules of colourant and flavouring in them please? I found out a while back that several of the popular brands are ‘tampered with’ so to speak

2 I have seen people mention (can’t remember which forum, sorry) Fruit Water Makers & there is a recommended brand in the BSD products sector. I have looked them up on the web but (probably not looking hard enough) cannot find out what they actually do, the promo stuff says healthy, low cal etc, but what do you actually have to do with them, has anyone got one please – how do they work? I have so many gadgets, I wanted to make sure it was practical before I add any more clutter to my groaning cupboards.

Really enjoying this thread and after 6 weeks on Sirt & 2 weeks on BSD, I am now under 13st for the 1st time in 12 years. Tummy has shrunk and can’t say that I have been screamingly hungry either. RESULT!!!

I have thought about the muscle increase, i also have been drinking more water since joining a gym, i also went from a fairly active job to a more sedentary, hence the gym membership. I just don’t like my weight jumping all over the place – when i first started it was jumping around just below 60kg and is now stuck at 60-61. I will keep track of it in a diary and see if it is going down overall. I haven’t tried the 16:8 fasting period but that does sound like it would be worth giving a shot.

Michael Mosley talks a lot about quitting sugar too? Do you suggest doing that also or maybe trying to do the Mediterranean diet? I don’t eat gluten and minimal dairy because my body hates it so i’m not huge on strict diets where i have to cut things out further but i will give it a go if that’s what i’m doing wrong. I also eat a lot of artificial sweeteners and am trying to switch to stevia if that is also an issue haha.

    Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
