Well done Patsy!

Well it’s something they don’t tell you when you are diagnosed and I only got on to the modified release version because I did some research, there will be people out there suffering because they don’t know any different. Normal dose Metformin costs ยฃ30 and modified cost ยฃ120 a year so it mounts up if you don’t tell anyone there is an alternative.
Day 33 weight 10st 6lbs – the pound has come back off
Blood sugar 10.9Have got the fitness dvd’s out from the back of the drawer – have been watching them while waiting for the man to repair my oven. I want to check that I will be able to do the warm ups before I actually start doing any exercises. Now he has fixed the oven I have to clean the house for my visitors coming for lunch on Sunday – just having a coffee before I start. I’m not a fan of cleaning.
Hope everyone is resisting temptation, I’ve been bought two big reduced sugar eggs by people who know I’m on this diet! They actually have more sugar per 100g than my husband’s dark chocolate “normal” ones.

Fantastic weeta
You coming over to the ‘over the 8-week line and after’ thread?
Keep letting us know your progress.

on 24 Mar 2016 at 15:05 in Fast 800Some of us diabetics can’t cope with porridge – it spikes our blood sugars. Others are ok with it.
I normally have bacon and egg, or cooked meat. It keeps me going until my evening meal.

Looks like we need a bigger venue for the ‘over the 8 week line’ party ๐
That’s so encouraging. All these people finishing the 8 weeks, with great results, and sharing their successes on here. ๐
Well done to those approaching that 8-week line. See you on the other side!

Hi bill1954,
I was getting a bit worried as I was doing all the right things, then wham it just started to fall off again, thanks for the support, I know I am a wimp, I have done every diet going and after always put more weight back on so this has to work for me too, you wouldn’t believe that I got married in a size 8 and with every child put a stone and never lost it (I have five children) so at size 20 and pre diebetic something had to give, can’t wait to see the kids, they live all over the place, to see their reaction. Anyway ramble over and thanks again! -
LOL Judith. If I’d have been there I’d have given you a hand. Are you buying a belt?
-
Hi everyone. Just catching up on the threads today.
No diet I have ever been on in the last 50 years has ever been so successful, or produced such quick results. The others (and I’ve tried just about every slimming club and diet book you can think of) have never retrained my tastebuds like the BSD has.
I’ve not touched bread, pasta, pizza, or chocolate since I started this in December. The smell in the bakery section of supermarkets is no longer enticing. I am even losithe raste for diet fizzy soft drinks! Today I was out shopping and wanted a drink, so looked in the chiller cabinet in the last shop I was visiting – the only sugar free drinks were 7up free or still water. I prefer fizzy drinks so bought the 7up free. Two mouthfuls were enough to convince me I’d made mistake. It was far too sweet.
I have been thinking long-term and know that I have to keep low-carb for the rest of my life. The moment I let my guard down and allowed those nasty carbs back in would be the start of a very slippery slope.
Judith – did you buy a belt for your jeans?
-
Wow !!
Well done! ๐ -
Hope you’re ok Judith.

Answer received:
“Thanks for emailing Steve Rowe about our meat and poultry products. As a member of Steveโs personal team, Iโm replying on his behalf.
Iโm sorry youโre disappointed that some of our meat and poultry products currently contain sugar.
Our cooked chicken and some of our meat products contain a very small amount of sugar. This is added for two reasons – to improve the flavour of the meat, and to enhance browning during the cooking process. It is used in very low levels and the products arenโt marinated in sugar.
Iโd like to assure you that sugar reduction is very much on the agenda and weโre currently investigating alternative ingredients which deliver the same succulence, flavour & colour.
On behalf of Steve, many thanks for getting in touch.”
Two interesting points: sugar added to improve the flavour of the meat (!) and ‘products aren’t marinated in sugar’. I’ve never added sugar to meat, surely it has enough flavour of its own. And the label on the roasted chicken products clearly states ‘roasted in a sugar marinade’.
Methinks a response is necessary, but will have to wait until Saturday when I can hopefully get a photo of the label.
But at least they replied. And quickly.

Hi Scotgran. Nothing wrong with interesting food combinations – that’s the story of my life LOL.
-
Bee Lady, you can do it! The recipes are in the book – there are links in various sections of the kindle book to take you through to the recipe section, or go to the contents page and get there that way.
There are some recipes on the website, too – take a look under the “recipes” menu at the top of the page.
-
I am hopefully starting this today. I cannot find menu plans on this site. Are they in the book? (I have Kindle version)
My HbAc1 was 64 last week. Today I weigh 79.1kg and goal weight is 65kg. My last Retinopathy showed ‘slight bleed’ in 1 eye. That scares me and I know I MUST do something positive. Trouble is though that worrying also raises BS. I’m feeleing very anxious -
First way in. Day 4 and I’ve lost 3lbs. Quite pleased with that. My weight varies quite a bit from day to day anyway so I’m not sure it means much but it’s encouraging.
-
Wow! I weighed myself last night, after 10 days in, and 9lbs down! can’t quite believe it – don’t seem to have lost anything round the waist yet, but looking forward to getting back into clothes I haven’t been in for a couple of years!

on 24 Mar 2016 at 13:50 in Fast 800Thanks. I thought it was OK after the 8 weeks, but not before – could have misunderstood. Will check the book again as I like porridge and the weather is getting cooler again so it’ll be more appealing than yoghurt.
-
Well done FiFiP and husband!
-
Weighed myself this morning and I’ve lost 3 lbs. Quite pleased with that.
My husband just ate a biscuit and I was very tempted to have one, but resisted. He’s eating what I am in support, but having extra food too as he doesn’t need to lose any weight.

on 24 Mar 2016 at 13:38 in Fast 800I think that porridge is okay as long as it isn’t instant or otherwise heavily processed. The book mentions it and I think you’ll find it on here.
Many on this site are taking a harder line on carbohydrate than the book does.I had it for much of my first two weeks which went very well. Since then I have more or less skipped breakfast and had larger lunch and dinner, or if dinner is going to be later had a 4pm snack.

I like yoghurt with chopped pear and some coconut shreds.

I’ve made a few substitutions too, to use up food we already had. I know the book said to prepare first, but I knew if I put it off for a few days that would turn into a few weeks.
I’ve been on the diet 4 days now and lost 3 lbs, so I don’t think I can be going too far wrong.

I was feeling lonely! Seemed like no one was replying to my posts. Then I discovered they’d all gone to the junk email folder. Without permission! I’ve sorted this now(Ihope) and just read loads and loads of your encouraging replies. Whew, glad it wasn’t something I said! It’s been an interesting week, I stupidly used an app that reminded me that I had only eaten so many calories, then slowly realised it was because I was entering exercise. So now I know you literally cannot have your cake and eat it. Food wise, I’ve been looking after the grandsons in their house all week and as we get ready to join their parents for the Easter weekend, the food supplies here are running down. That’s led to some interesting meal options which I’ve not cal counted but have left me full and also “got things moving” which was becoming a problem. For example I had to sub the ingredients in the no carb Bircher. We ran out of yogurt and blueberries (the kids ate it all) . Soaked currants in apple juice then added the flaxseed and two tablespoons of double cream. It was delicious. Lunch today was bizarre, a portobello mushroom filled with liver pate and a salad of spinach and celery. Looking forward to my batter less fish no chips and mushy peas, great idea, thanks for that. Happy Easter everyone. We don’t have Internet connection where we’re going, speak again on Tuesday x

I echo what Bill1954 said.
You are not alone anymore
And to lose 13 is one week is AMAZING!!
You are going to do this – you are going to have the life you always wanted
GO GIRL !!! -
Great way to get the word out Steve and Ei
Anyone who mentions I have lost weight get’s regaled with my BSD stories.
I bet I’m considered as a bit of a bore now, but ask me if I care !
I may just be doing someone some good. -
Me too. Bought a jacket on the “expensive (by my standards), but will last me for ever” principle, and now it hangs in the cupboard, with some other oversize stuff. Now operating on the cheap, and cheerful basis, for a while. Two pairs of jeans for a tenner in ASDA, and surprisingly good.
Ei is still going down the weight range, taking it slowly after the initial 8 weeks, so we are buying a few things as we go. Not too much at any size. Hooked in a shop assistant, overhearing our discussion, for the diet, a few days ago. They tell you, “I’ve tried everything – how have you done it?” -

Nowhere near as expensive as the reception, hotel stay, and transport, and it does make a good keepsake
Judith there is a new member, Lostgirl just posted in the (I think) BSD way of life thread I’ve replied but I think she may need a lot of support. -

Guess what ??
Your’re not alone any more.
You now are part of a worldwide family who all have exactly the same hopes, fears, and goals as you.
The fact that you are ready to start a new lifestyle (and it WILL become a lifestyle not just a diet) means that you have taken a massive step to a new and healthy you.
There will be pitfalls along the way, you may suffer a few initial side effects, but if you cut out the carbs and stick to around 800 cals a day you will soon see the weight move and you will feel better than you probably have in years
Make full use of the forums and the recipe section, there is a mountain of advice and tips in there.
Don’t forget to throw the low fat stuff away and start to enjoy full fat products and keep the water intake up to 2 to 3 litres a day – this is important
If you need help, just shout out. There is almost always someone there with a swift answer
This way of eating will not just save your life
It will recreate it ๐ -
God, bill, what a pity it was an expensive jacket! It must be very rewarding though to see it ‘fitting’ like a tent ๐
-
Lol, merseychic, even your shoes are too big! You must have achieved more than you realised. I have had an experimental week of eating more calories but sticking to the principles, weight appeared to stay the same but I noticed my clothes were looser, the ketostix were showing I was still fat burning, then the other day my jeans nearly fell off in the middle of town!! I was trying to carry my shopping with my elbows tucked in trying to hold on to my jeans – I must have looked like a crazy duck waddling around. :0
-
Judith
I bought an expensive jacket for my sons wedding 9 years ago (Gretna Green would you believe) and it is like a tent on me now, and not just a 2 man jobbie.
When everything else goes, I’m going to hang on to that jacket and 1 pair of trousers as a reminder of what could happen if I don’t look after myself in future. -
That does sound as if they are dodgy Bill. I know it’s a shame but if I were you I would be tempted to buy a new tub. If the new sticks work better you could always complain to the manufacturer
-
Hi Steve and Ei, first, congratulations on your amazing achievements! Same size as you were at 20, that really is something to celebrate (with a nice piece of cheese or steak perhaps?). ๐
Not being able to have a glass of wine pales into insignificance next to those stats! You must be over the moon. I certainly will be if I can achieve that (I’m 63 as well) it is still a dream at this stage.
Sadly, Bill, I haven’t kept any of my old clothes quite that long, I wish I had, you would hear me crowing all up the North East if I could parade around in my 43 year old clothes! ๐

Great news merseychic
You will soon be at your target weight so well done on that
Are you planning a retail therapy session ? You’re gonna need new outfits for the warmer weather ๐
Come join us on the 8 weeks and over thread next week. -
Well 6 weeks (7 on Saturday) since I started this diet and although the loss has been slow and I had a fortnight of stagnation. I am now 4lbs off my goal weight with a loss off a stone in total. Total loss since the begining of the year on another diet 19.6lb. I found my stagnation was the worst and in the end I took drastic steps Fasting for a period, only eating when hungry, no nuts and down to 500cals for 2 days. Since then it has been coming steadily off and people are noticing. None of my clothes fit even my shoes are now too big.
-
Judith, I’m wondering if I have a dodgy batch of Ketostix
The first couple of tests I did showed ketosis but since then I have absolutely no colour change at all (over a week now)
The tip of the stick is way paler than the chart says for 0 ketosis so it’s the only thing I can think of.
Not too bothered as I’m still losing weight and I know I’m keeping the carbs down but it is a PITA when I went to the bother and expense of buying them. -
No problem with the diet. Past the 8 weeks and looking to a continuation of the principles. Me. now at the weight I was at 20, at 63. Enjoying our food, and getting a lot of interest about how it is done now effects are actually visible. A lot of people will not change, though. We’ve had, “Oh, just take the tablets and you can eat anything.” Still, up to them. Many more have bought the book, and started.
My only sadness is I still can’t drink wine over the “occasional one with dinner” rule. Puts my fasting BG up. Not the next day, but the next, and for several after that. Always has, and diet, and weight loss, hasn’t cured that. Looks like it’s the naughty step, for ever, for that, unfortunately. -
Yeah, cherrieanne, are you having a bad night too? Hope not ๐
-
Hi Mandy, they come in a tub of 50 sticks. The tub has a colour code on the outside. Dip a stick in your first urine of the day and compare the colour at the end of the stick with the chart on the tub. It tells you if you are burning fat. The ones I got are called ketostix ๐
