I had similar problems, we go caravanning for a week at a time and it is like a walking and mountain biking bootcamp and we cram in as much as possible, I found myself flagging a bit in the Brecon beacons trying to stick with the calorie restriction so I stuck to the foods and forgot about the 800 calories, on the hills I had high protein bars, nuts and squares of dark chocolate to keep me going but still needed the odd jelly baby.

Thanks Bizibee, will bear that in mind when I get to maintenance stage.

At the end of week 2 and I have lost another 3lb. Making 11lb so far. I am starving hungry today but have kept on it. Had a small piece of pork with homemade lentil n onion daal and greens. Delicious but tiny. I now need to keep out of the kitchen until tomorrow morning. I am quite tired tonight and definitely feeling a bit miserable about portion size. Stay out of the kitchen Polly! I have felt very good and energetic a lot of the time but not tonight. So it goes eh. Keeping out of the kitchen as I say is a must. I keep repeating it to hypnotise myself into actually doing it!

Hi all. I’m starting the 800 cal BSD tomorrow. I’ve read the book, doesn’t mention carb counting, only calorie counting but carb counting is all over the posts! How many grams of carbs should I be aiming for in an 800 cal day? Also what’s the best app for carb counting ? Hope someone can advise, thanks.

The results are in of my annual bloods (type 2 for 5 years). They’re all normal thankfully.
I’m pleased with serum triglyceride of 0.93 (a year ago it was raised at 2.70) – just proves that excess weight is a nightmare!
Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio is 2.5. Last year it was 3.6.
    HBA1C is 45mmol/mol – 6.3 (is this correct?) A year ago it was 57.
There’s a note on the hba1c level stating type 2 general target is 48 to 59 – so am making an appointment for medication review. (I reduced the Metformin to half dose off my own bat).
So I’m pleased with those. Very thankful that I discovered the BSD book – a new way of eating forever. 31lbs down and BMI down by 5 to 27. Keep on keeping on for now!!

    hi all –

well, i’m back. back with my tail between my legs. these past few weeks have not been kind health wise & i’ve put back on 8 of the 14lbs i had initially lost on BSD.

as of today i have 10 weeks until my wedding and i am going to do my utmost to stick to the fast 800 BSD until that time. i am responsible for my choices & my health. this diary i hope will help keep me accountable, and i’ll be more active so as to help encourage others. i need remember that excuses are only that – excuses. yes i have some weird variables in my life right now, but who doesn’t have challenges to face when they are changing their life?! if i must eat out, i will have salad & protein, no dressing. i will do my utmost to NOT eat out and to cook lovely meals at home. this won’t be possible on thursdays, but i will plan ahead.

will check in tonight with today’s numbers. all the best to everyone out there!!

Thanks Timmy, lots of good advice there. Will shop for the breakfast stuff tomorrow, that will be so much easier. I love the sound of the curry too. I hope you enjoy your new cooker! Mine hasn’t worked in over 2 years, that’s how much I’m interested in cooking. πŸ™‚ I use the hob, my microwave and a slow cooker. Just made beef goulash today which I will have with cauliflower rice. The goulash is 228 cals per serving and found it in a 5:2 fast diet slow cooker recipe book. That was fairly easy. πŸ™‚

There is definitely a gap in the market for someone not into cooking! I don’t have things like blenders and food processors and don’t want to buy them either. The ease sometimes of just being able to make a simple sandwich is wonderful. I’m sure I’ll get more organised soon . Good luck. πŸ™‚

Loving it and take so easy to stay on.
Grandkids coming over to head to the pool and I am wearing a bathing not suit ten sizes smaller than the one I wore two months ago!!
Made a huge low carb vegie salad with berries, salmon, and hard boiled eggs that all five of us can share for lunch. Had an ounce of cheddar cheese and 1/3 c blueberries for breakfast.
My little dog, Muffin, is doing much better on his meds so that makes me happy!

  • I thought I had written that until I saw your name πŸ™‚ Exactly the same as I do, I am a paper person and everything written down. I also use a pressure cooker and eat lots of beans and pulses.
I don’t have a lot of weight to lose but I don’t want to go on as I am doing at the moment, gaining about a pound a week so things have got to change and back to doing things probably instead of guestimating things, having home made wine and eating cake. I use myfitnesspal for the carb and calorie counts in food and find it mostly accurate.
I only got the book today so will spend tonight reading it whilst OH watches football and found youtubes of the Michael Mosley programmes so will have a look at those. I have done odd days the odd fasting days in the past and am ok with that.
Most of the diets are written with meat eaters in mind and so glad I found this website. Good Luck with your weight loss.

Hi Wooly, I have just finished my second week of nights, my routine was scramboed egg when I got in from work, sleep and then in the afternoon i had a meal so that overnight I took some hummus and bits to nibble on during the early hours, bulking up with water and going off to find something to do when i got the nibbles.

I also made some onion soup to take if I wanted something warming two onions finely chopped two cloves of garlic chopped, about a litre of water with a knorr vegetable stock cube, I don’t put salt in as i find that stock cubes can be salty, and black pepper for seasoning. Saute onion and garlic in about a tablespoon of rapeseed oil or a non flavoursome oil, add the stack cube to the boiling water, i also use a beef stock cube (sorry forgot to say that one) and stock to onions then bring back to the boil and then reduce the heat ubtil the onions are to you liking. Then flask it up.

i took it to work and it went down very well with my colleagues and myself at 1am!

Best of luck on nights, Wooly.

    Hi Timmy,

Sorry…not really the person to advise you on this…but feel that if you need to increase carbs for your training schedule the healthy ‘good’ carb choices would make perfect sense.
Also, if you are training at a high level intensity you may need to increase the calories as you will be burning off a huge amount. (Perhaps, monitor your weight loss and energy levels carefully and be guided by that). I am sure our more physically active members will be able to advise more specifically.

Good luck for the assault course – am suitably impressed!

Wow what a programme, good for you, wonderful. Don’t know but doubt you can keep up that sort of training on 800cals daily. Sure you need to up them considerably. Expect there’s some guidelines somewhere on the internet.

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well 😒

The fair was a team effort, but I spen Thursday and Friday afternoon baking, and then decorated cupcakes on Saturday morning😱

Sorry, but I can’t really suggest interesting meals, mine would probably sound boring! . I do weird combinations sometimes – depends on what I have in and what I fancy. If you tell me what you like to eat I’ll see if I can think of something.

I dry fry aubergine, when I actually get round to cooking that is. Sliced medium and placed in dry, hot frying pan, turn occasionally to stop burning and wait until they go soft and browned. Really tasty, but haven’t worked out the calories yet. Do the same with beef tomatoes.

A quick question about how to cope with intensive training/sports.

I’m doing tough mudder in a 8 weeks. It’s a 12 mile assault course, and I need to up my training now. Previously I would have relied on carbs for doing endurance training, but it doesn’t really fit with this way of eating. Or do I just have to make sure I have the right sort of carbs, i.e. buckwheat etc??

I’m going to be stepping up the training even more after tough mudder as I’ve signed up for the Blenheim triathlon again, and I’m targeting an elite time (sub 1 hour 20). So same question goes for that really. When I’m in the swing of it I’ll be doing 2 x 3km freestyle swims, 2 x 10k runs and 2 x 30km bike rides per week.

And in February next year I’m going skiing again. I’m a go hard or go home kind of skier and normally lose weight on my skiing holiday despite eating 3 breakfast, a large lunch and a 5 course meal in the evening plus lots of beer and wine! I’m worried that there will be nothing left of me!! Any advice would be gratefully received!

Has to be olives for me. I will pretty much eat anything, but olives and oysters I would always avoid. I always wished I liked olives because they are so good for you. Well it transpires that I quite like them now! I think my tastebuds have changed quite a bit doing this “diet”.

Oysters can stay were they are though.

    Hi Lynne,
Only just resurfacing after our big family weekend!
Well done on the Β£400 raised at your church ‘do’ you must have been up very early to do all that baking?
I am going to re-think my next target, I m going to see the doctor tommorow afternoon, I haven’t been feeling great for the last three weeks, and my body feels like it has been used as a punch bag!
I will see what the doc says then do a re-evaluation of the situation.
You seem to be able to keep to the diet really well, any tips on interesting meals to try?

Hello keeptrying, I really empathise with you, I have just struggled with diets for so long and just because I am managing to overcome my cravings mostly this time, doesn’t mean everyone else is! How much “healthy fat” have you had today? That really helps.
Coconut oil is meant to be good for killing hunger cravings. Just 3g uses 21kcal but you may find it worth it. Originally used it to help with candida. On a sad note I completely lost the babybel I packed for my lunch πŸ™ oh well I will try not to indulge elsewhere!

Hi Baristagirls, In our Lidl it’s normally on the right with the other blocks of chocolate as you go in. Like I said it just looks like a block of dark chocolate (also comes in milk ). The packaging is mostly white and is described as chocolate mousse. Inside are 11 small individually wrapped bars. They aren’t always in but there more often than not. Hope this helps!

Epspecially – definitely agree, a square here and there is better than snapping and falling off the wagon completely. I think I may have tried it, is it a very thin chocolate, and the raspberries like freeze dried? If so, yes, it’s lovely πŸ™‚ I’m trying to hold off everything and be really good for the 8 weeks, but if I have to have a little bit of chocolate here and there, then I’m going to. So far, so good though.

Hi Jimbo, well done on the amazing weight loss! This is only my tenth day so I don’t really feel like I can answer your questions as to why it’s slowing down. I always found (on other diets) that when I hit a plateau, if I cheated for a day or two, it got things shifting again, but on this plan, cheating would mean reintroducing things that I don’t want to. Re the bowel thing, I am stumped. You’d understand it if it was at the start of changing a diet, but to happen a month in is a bit strange. Sorry I can’t be of any help.

Good morning from California KeepTrying! I’m just going to give thumbs up to what Inofen, Igorasusual and Rozy already said — we are all very unique and although the happy “fast-losers” love to post their results (and I enviously read them!) there are plenty of us out here losing slowly! It all adds up though, week after week, until suddenly there really is something significant. Specifically for waistline issues, I recommend some fast aerobic exercise — do you have access to a stationary bike or a treadmill? The more aerobic I did (do), the more I lost at the waist — but not quickly — looking back over my journal, it took about ten days to 2 weeks for each inch at the waist. And, the number wouldn’t change for days and days, then suddenly I would lose the inch overnight. Go figure! How does that work?

I’ve been on the BSD since 11th May and have lost 11.4kgs, which I am delighted about. I started at 98.4kgs, & would like to get to 80kgs by the 8th or 9th week, although that maybe a bit optimistic.

    1. My weight seems to have stopped at 87kgs, and It does not seem to be going down. 85.6kgs is the my next target as that will be equivalent of 2 stones lost, but I don’t appear to be getting any closer. I run & cycle about twice a week, I walk the dog most days, & 3 mornings a week to the press ups squats & crunches. There have been a spate of social events recently which have taken me ‘off piste’ on a number of occasions in the last week, and I suspect that this May be a factor. But what else is happening to stop the weight sliding off as it once did?

2,The other issue I have is that I have a colostomy, & for the 1st four weeks, there was no reaction to the new regime. However in the last week, my bowels have come very busy, and I am wondering if things will settle down as my system gets accustomed to the diet. As the diet is working, I am loathe to change. Anyone had similar experiences.

Any observations or advice will eagerly read.

    Regards

    James

BUT one square is not too bad think 60/80 calories and not many carbs and if it helps me continue with the plan, it’s well worth it!
