on 27 Jul 2016 at 14:55 in Welcome to the BSDGood advice from FoFi. You ask what carbs you can have. You need to go online and look up the good GI carbs. Forget about bread, rice, pasta, potato and chocolate cake (that was a joke). Look for carb like chickpeas, lentils, nuts, beans and pulses. I know they don’t sound very appetising but tell me honestly what rice tastes of, nothing, bland, boring, until you put a sauce on it or do something with it. Same with good carbs. Make yourself a pot of hummus, if that doesn’t suit your taste add some frozen peas and mint. Have something with you to nibble on like carrot sticks, celery, an apple, a small handful of nuts. These all contain carbs, just good ones.
I’m known for being bossy, so here goes, stop making excuses and get started on this wonderful journey for your health and weight and well being. You will enjoy the food when your taste buds get used to the change.
Also, can I just say, yes it is scary, it is new and innovative and exciting too. Join us guinea pigs and show the pharmaceutical companies that we are taking control back.

Day 9 – I couldn’t resist, I had to step on the scale this morning, I just felt smaller. π I’m at 8.6 lbs lost since my start last week – not bad for 8 days. I’ve been eating a lot of salads the last few days, I don’t know if that’s the help our if I’m just getting into the groove. Energy is back up. I weeded my garden for an hour last night and then got on the treadmill for 35 mins, not at the speed I was going at before, still not there for energy, but I felt being on the treadmill period was a good thing!
Way to go Napangardi! π LOL I had to laugh a little because I pictured you literally having 1 cup of cacao with a bit of water. ha ha I’m not a morning gym person either, in my opinion mornings are not fun, give me night anytime! I can’t even get downstairs to get on my own treadmill in the morning, so I sure as heck am not getting to the gym in the morning.

Yes, I loved the aubergine recipe, I hadn’t had it since the 70’s when you had to salt and soak it to take away the bitterness. Now, I believe they had that fault bred out of them. I have had most of the recipes in the book and the only ones I don’t like are Beetroot falafels and anything with fish, prawns etc.
-
That sounds wrong. I’ll make a fresh batch of yoghurt using a live culture currently in my fridge. That’s better.
-
Bought some full fat UHT milk and milk powder. I’ll make a fresh batch of my own yoghurt tonight or tomorrow and report back!

Sorry Izzy does not like Rollercoasters. I have no idea if I like or dislike them…….. I never been on one thanks to epilepsy! It sounds like you are melting away!

I think you should really reward yourself….Like a swedish massage or something of that sort. What an accomplishment! 7 days and my handlebars and getting smaller. I am still waiting for my scale and glucometer to come. This is what sucks about buying online!
Wish you all for following The Witch Of The West and succeed in MELTING, MELTING!!!!!!!!!

on 27 Jul 2016 at 13:32 in Starting the BSDHey there sunshine-girl, yeah I really wish I could persuade my dad to go on the diet but he is incredibly stubborn and hard to persuade π I am hoping that if he sees me getting results and losing weight it might persuade him to hopefully give it a go, or at least switch to low carb mediterranean food. Fingers crossed…
Greenjanet that is fab you haven’t wanted to comfort eat! I know I haven’t been hungry at all, I just get that wee demon occasionally in the evenings saying ‘ooooh something sweet would be nice’…it’s not a hunger voice it’s a boredom, ‘what will I do now’ voice I think. So I need to keep myself more occupied in the evenings π Off to the gym tonight for a quick HIIT session on the bike (and then a nice steam and hot tub after, ahhhh, makes it all worthwhile!)
That’s great you are on week 2 Yowser49! How are you finding it? Good to know that the tiredness/weakness should pass. I woke up this morning and could barely drag my weary limbs from the bed lol. I just need to be consistent this time and keep going. I like the forums on here, it’s great to have a community of people to talk to with advice and encouragement π
Anyway nearly 3 days in, am going to have to find some new lunch recipes, I’m well supplied for dinner ideas but I bring a packed lunch to work so will have to get a bit more creative…today I had the lentil dahl from the Fast Cook book, it was very nice and filling, had it with a small flatbread yum yum!
Onwards and upwards…

my pedometer is broken – it had previously survived a 30 degree wash cycle, but the 60 degree one was a bit much.
It’s had a couple of days sitting in cat litter, and tried a different battery, still very dead.
I am getting quite good at judging how much I’ve walked (I guess at the end of the day and compare it to the pedometer), but back to amazon for a replacement. -
Welcome onboard Puneet. If nothing else, we aim to entertain as you lose weight and get your levels under control!

hi just joined yesterday.I did a similar venture 3 years ago when i was diagnosed with diabetes. lost 13 kgs. Soon i moved to a new job which turned out to be extremely stressful and my weight started creeping back up and went beyond the original. Now after about two years of suffering trying metformin I bought the book and am motivated to start again. last four days that i have been on this diet my morning sugar levels have been dropping and when i get home from work and check my sugar i almost jump with joy. I had forgotten how good it feels to get a decent reading.
reading all these posts is helping me stay motivated and foccused.
Cheers

on 27 Jul 2016 at 13:05 in Starting the BSDThanks all for the kind words of support!
Frog, yes my mum is easy, i ask her what she feels like and she just says give me whatever and she eats it, her favourites are the no carb waffles, the turkey and apricot burgers and the cod with lettuce and peas, but she honestly enjoys it all. She was in a food rut with little appetite before the diet, except for cakes! Now as we are having such a variety of food and different everyday shes enjoying it more.
As others have experienced, we sit there looking at each other in wonder saying ‘are you hungry, cos i’m not!’ its amazing. My mum is happy with her own weight loss and inches too but is made up with my weight loss as well, i tell her its partly down to her for doing the diet with me and being so easy, as i find it easier when both of us are on it, eating the same things and using up ingredients etc,

I am still here. It’s just I am in Portugal at the mo. Very nice and hot. I am not bothering too much with 800 calories while I am away but am eating low carb. It’s just I find it a struggle not to have a glass of wine which then turns into several more! Hope it won’t do too much damage to the scales when I get home!
I have lost 10-11 pounds, but plateaued at that weight for an entire week which was frustrating.
But I am sticking with it. Well done Indy. Fantastic results. On your say so I have bought a fit bit. It is definately motivating.
Fuzzy Jammie’s, it seems like you are going through a lot at the moment so sny loss is a real achievement. Good on you.
I will post again when I get home. -
Never let it be said I am not a bargain hunter. Got a slight second yoghurt maker, 9 various sachets of the mix and delivery for less than Β£19!!
-
I’m going to give it a go. This BSD is costing me a fortune in appliances and gadgets!
-
Hi Frog
We’ve found it very odd and also a bit confusing as we stock in both Co-op and Budgens! -
You can start it with an easiyo sachet for your first one, then when you’ve got 2-3 spoonfuls left, just use that as your culture for your next batch!
Apparently adding in milk powder makes it extra creamy.
-
Hi Lucky Maneki
I put weight on at the weekend (think pizza, cheese cake, croissant, carrot cake) once I’d had one ‘bad’ thing, it all went a bit mad.
But – couple of days of being very sensible, and I’ve lost the additional kilo and a bit more, so don’t worry about it too much! It’s odd how supermarkets swap round isnt it? Our budgens closed a few weeks ago, and is having a makeover as a co-op, and I was driving away from home yesterday and a Morrisons I used to use on a regular commute has closed, but a tesco in the shop next door.
-
I’m googling live yoghurt cultures.. available on Amazon!
-
Just did a quick bit of googling. Looks like it’s dead easy to make it yourself in the easiyo equipment. You can do it with normal milk, but this involves heating the milk to kill of any bacteria then letting it cool. Or even easier, just use UHT milk.
I’m going to buy some organic UHT and have a go this week.
-
Ah yes, you see that’s what I’d try because it’s not supposed to be difficult. I will buy the smaller 500g version I think as I’m not sure I can get through a kg of yoghurt alone!
-
Each sachet makes 1kg of yoghurt! That’s pretty good value. In the supermarket you’d be looking pay Β£2.50-Β£5 depending on what you buy. Also, if you get the sachets on offer then it makes it even cheaper!
I’m planning on using my own culture though. The only thing I’ll be buying is milk then.
-
Timmy – just so I understand about the Easiyo… you buy the maker and then it’s Β£5 a time for 3 sachets??? How is that good value? Or have you tried with live cultures?
-
Every one of those 6 will work.
-
Those were the only non sweary 4 letter words I could think of to describe a person! Lol. I can think of at least 6 naughty ones.
-
Steak with creme fraiche and peppercorn sauce. A MA ZING
Although it will take up over half of your calories, but it is well worth it!

Paltrow. don’t get us strated…

I made this recipe yesterday, my 2nd out of the book (previous being the portabella toast stuffed with cheese & nuts).
Proud to say it was a HUGE hit for my boyfriend and myself. I never thought eggplant could taste so delicious! I’ve only ever eaten it sliced, dredged in flour and fried like chicken (which didn’t taste nearly as good).
The flavors again just melded in our mouths, along with the textures. I could eat this kind of food the rest of my life. It literally feels like food that heals each bite we take.
We’ll be making the portabella toast and these stuffed eggplants very often. What should we try next?
Anyways I didn’t have lamb on hand , no pine nuts either so this is what I did:
Roasted the egg plant with sprinkled salt & olive oil for 20 mins.
Fried up some minced onion with the cumin, paprika and cinnamon, along with plenty of salt. Threw in ground pork in place of the lamb and browned nicely — slightly caramelizing onions in the proccess. Then added pistachios instead of pine nuts and flax seed instead of pomegrante seeds (didn’t have those pomegrante seeds as well); along with the tomato paste.
Then spoon it in the eggplant and roasted 10 more mins. Garnished with thinly sliced scallions.

Hmm, add the Oppo Pound to the list Lucky (now you’ve surfaced). This is described as a BSD miscalculation rather than misdemeanour..
I’m waiting for my Up2…… where’s my Up2 got to??!!
-
What is the beef with Paltrow??!!
-
‘Fried’ Oppo Tokyo??!! Don’t do that, it’ll be another ‘butterflies’ culinary disaster!! I’m hopeing Lucky hasn’t run off with MRS Martin either, or she will be in the clutches of Paltrow.. *gasp*
Ooh runforfun, now I’m intrigued. Obviously if you need product testers…….. π
-
Fried Oppo? Are you from Glasgow originally Tokyo?
I’ll be donning my speedos in the outdoor pool tonight and doing my best to splash the non-wet hair swimming brigade.
-
Lucky I’ll have to try find you on UP if you dont make an appearance soon ;-)) You can walk but you can’t hide :-))))
-
Morning Tokyo, Josie, Janey, Janet, Timmy, Collie, Runforfun, Frog and Eps! Apologies if I missed anyone out π
The scales are up. I repeat, the scales are up. I have gained – a new one for the list…
An OPPO pound – the random half a pound to a pound that is gained when the night before you ate nearly half a tub of OPPO by confusing millilitres with grams. Because you’re a tool.
Oooh Janey, bet your house smells lovely! Not quite safe yet, but safer than yesterday anyway. So far. It’s not afternoon yet.
Greenjanet – spoke too soon… lol. We had the Co-op in our village, which was then replaced by Waitrose. The Co-op moved to the next village, replacing the old Kwik Save/Somerfield. Co-op used to be really good, you could do a decent shop there, but this one looks like something has dropped on it. It always looks untidy, the reduced section always seems to have more in it than the actual shop has, it’s hideously expensive, and it has one wall of a frozen section. I’d say 60% of which was dessert lol. But, in all fairness, they stocked the Oppo!
Timmy – hope you and your wife had a lovely anniversary. And if you can’t treat yourself on your anniversary, when can you?
Yayyyy Runforfun, and one thing you can guarantee is that you’ll get an honest opinion. If we make bread, or cake, or pizza (eggy pizza meh) and it isn’t like bread, or cake, or pizza, we will slaughter it. Mercilessly. Oppo have made an ice cream, that tastes like a luxury ice cream! And it’s a ridiculous amount of calories. I’m just waiting for someone there to say ‘Oh, shoot… my bad. Miscalculated that one! That was meant to be 176 calories…?’ haha! Good luck on Day 3, it gets easier, I’m on Day… 47. It’s flown.
So I’m not completely bonkers then, Eps? π Not completely, no…?
Tokyo, you have not fried Oppo? Like you get in chinese restaurants, where they batter it? Oh my GOD! DEEP FRIED OPPO IN CHICKPEA BATTER! Or am I overthinking this?
And I wouldn’t run away with Mrs Martin, aka PALTROW. Pffffffffft :-p -
What a lovely thread! Such a good idea π
My positives today are:
1. Just started BSD (on Monday there) and not hungry at all – feeling good π
2. Had a nice walk in the park today with the dog and no rain
3. I’ve already lost some weight so feeling positive about the new changes!Have a great day everybody x
-
Haha Jenny, we are actually in the middle of not only creating another flavour of Oppo Ice Cream but also another Oppo product maybe a couple of desserts..
Im sorry Especially! We are trying to get Oppo over to you!
-
i have not fried oppo yet but it sounds like it will be a winner
janey i shall be round bout 7 for my te ok?
wheres lucky to today ? has she finally run off with mrs martin??
and timmy on my way to work this morning i saw to young persons wearing red sweatshirts that had ” team speedos” written on the back !!! i thought of you as i drive past laughing !!! -
Morning all, not for me. My blood pressure is mint (this is a complete guess as I haven’t had it checked in over a year, but it “seems” ok).
My SiL has been impressed with my weightloss on this WOE and is thinking about getting on the BSD/Med style diet. I know that one of the benefits of this is that it lowers your BP, but does that mean it isn’t right for people with low BP?
