Best sort of barley to use is pot barley – it is unprocessed unlike pearl barley, can take a bit longer to prepare but you can make a good amount and freeze some, you can make an orzotto with it if you want – an alternative to a risotto. I haven’t had an orzotto for ages, and won’t be having any during my fasting phase. Doing the 8 weeks in summertime is great for salads etc.

Hello Tokyo πŸ™‚ Good grief, hasn’t a week gone quick? I know it was Friday last week wasn’t it, but still, it’s flown by? Remember to check in tomorrow and let us know, you in work or off tomorrow? Hope your tracker arrives soon. Any news, CInderella moments, compliments?

You’re welcome Imogen. I meant to add, I don’t mean like 1000 steps precisely, I’m not that good πŸ˜‰ I think it’s actually over 1000, but it’s a good figure for a guesstimate. That’s great to hear that you’ve been doing more than you thought, you’d be surprised at how they add up through the day. I normally find that on top of my daily pottering (on a good day!) I usually need an hours walk to get me to my very rare 10,000 steps. So that’s a 40/60 split of pottering and housework and then treadmill. Awwww I wish I had something old that I could send you that worked, but every bit of tech I have stashed in drawers is older than what we’re using now, and with the exception of my Apple bits, nothing seems to work.

Fingers crossed for a lottery win and I will buy everyone two. One for each wrist. And a case of Oppo. I’ll have yours shipped to you Eps by special freezy van πŸ˜€

So I went out for a meal with a good friend tonight.
Instead of grabbing the menu, we talked for a good time.

I ordered chicken, didn’t need anything else.

When asked about puddings and coffee , it was nice to say, not needed.
Previously I would have wanted to order two or three puddings just for me.

It wa the company that was so fine, the meal wasn’t really needed.

    Love Lucia

My OH is a long time salad hater, but if I drizzled a spoon of Tahini over it and a little really good quality balsamic over it and add a twist of seasalt, he will scoff down every last bite.

I have found there are plenty of meals that can be put together on this diet, with almost no preparation or cooking. Have you thought about antipasti? just put together a selection of cooked meats and/or fish, a couple of small cubes of cheese, some pickles and some cloud bread – recipe can easily be found online.

Sometimes put some in with mince to pad out a bolognaise but I do have Michael’s chicken on lentilsm had it twice in 4 weeks so not a staple in my diet, thanks for the heads up lac.

That’s a shame Josie. I think it’s hard to gauge the cooking times on these ‘new’ cakes. I haven’t tried making one yet, but if I’m honest, I’m having so much success with my cupcakes/muffins that I’m not too bothered. I know having a whole cake looks nice, especially if you’ve got company, but if they’re for personal consumption (and if like me you don’t trust yourself having the remains of a cake around) cupcakes freeze so well, you can properly calorie count them. I made lovely chocolate cupcakes with the recipe Eps posted a few days ago, they took exactly 15 minutes. I’d imagine it makes a lovely cake too. Didn’t do the ganache on it but the cake itself – wonderful.

Never a dull moment in this head of mine, Imogen πŸ™‚ lol, I don’t think I’d want to be any other way now though. It’s not easy being me, but it is a lot of fun. I am a bit obsessed with food and when I’m on a diet, I become a complete diet bore, so this forum is a godsend for me. And my friends. And my family, who are now spared the sermons from me πŸ˜‰ I remember back when the penny was dropping for me, I was plucking up courage to raise the matter with my husband. One night in bed, I very hesitantly said ‘Babe? Do you think I might be Aspergers?’ Expecting a ‘Nooooooooooo don’t be daft.’ or laughter. He just replied ‘Oh yes. Definitely.’ Evidently more obvious to other people than I thought then…

I know this is probably no help whatsoever, it’s just that I like figures and numbers and stats. It depends on how fast you walk etc. But I’ve found as a rule, 10 minutes of walking at a steady speed, not ambling, not power walking, gives me 1000 steps x

You may want to watch the lentil intake too sunshine-girl. According to MyFitnessPal 1 cup is 230 cals and 40 g carbs. I only use any pulse as an addition to a dish, not a full serving. But I’m trying to keep my carbs down to promote faster weight loss. πŸ™‚

Yes, it’s worth remembering it’s not the only band available and others may work with whatever phone you have. It’s just a shame because the UP2 are dirt cheap on Amazon at the moment. I think they are better than bog standard pedometers because as Eps said, you get a right row (or buzzing) if you do. Uber patronising app at times to the point of being funny. Tracks all manner from what food you’ve eaten to how well you sleep.

Eps, I’m not sure if I ever want to duel with you :-p You really would whoop my ass wouldn’t you? Let me know if you want to compete πŸ˜‰ And I’ll think of some excuse… heheheh jk

Two portions of ice cream? Or two scoops? Sheesh, you’d better put your back into this walk, lady! Maybe it will do you good if you’ve been feeling dizzy too. Definitely step away from the ice cream or you’ll end up in a vicious circle from Wednesday to Wednesday!

Can you actually ‘walk’ a cat?

Oo sorry Imogen I’m not much use to you either as am using it on an iPhone. Used to have a Samsung sonething and I know the operating system was t up to date enough for the app to work.

I’d say if you send the up or Fitbit customer service an email they’d help? And if that doesn’t work tell them the other has it and you want it to workπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜‚

Hope it works out anyway. Once you have one you won’t sit down for hours ever again!! It disapproves of sitting too long and gives tips 😳😝 I have Up2, nice comfy band and I like it. Makes me walk waaaaay more than usual, especially at work when I go out mini walks that add up.

Lucky? Hiiiiii πŸ˜‚ Just going out for a walk now so will be sending you and Janey competitive vibesπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» though to be honest, I just had two potions of our version of healthy ice cream and it has way too many calories (made of avocado and coconut milk and honey and cocoa) but there you go it’s done now and I actually feel better after it!! Was feeling bit dizzy and weak today but probably hormone related. So walk now and tomorrow begins again! 😎

Have hump of week to get over as last week lost up to Wednesday and then put on again so am basically back to where I was last Wednesday now. Want to move on to the next number!! So yes, first step should be step away from the ice cream ha ha ha I know..

Walk walk walk..pity the cat cAnt come too😿

No problem. Mine was old too until my birthday and I managed to get a decent phone on contract with a better plan for Β£4 more than I was paying for PAYG so it was a bit of a no-brainer for me.

No, you need not say any more πŸ™‚ I have four at different stages on the spectrum, and I can tell you that did come from me πŸ˜‰ Although not officially diagnosed and I am very unlikely to be now at my age, I’m 99% certain I’m Aspergers. Learning about ASD as a Mum, time and time again and the penny dropped, oh my God, that’s me too lol. Might have saved me a lot of stress and trouble while I was a teen growing up if I/other people had known. But hey ho, I’ve made it this far, raised four children, maintained a 17 year relationship and long term friendships so, I’m doing ok. Might explain why I’m better with people online than in real life though!

Does your son not have a piece of tech that you could shove the app on?

Nothing like watching Bill Clinton last night at the Philadelphia Democratic Convention. And guess what!!???? He actually had his pants on during the speech! LMAO Except for being a left wing Socialist, he is very must like the long lost twin brother of Berlusconi! LOL

My city tis of the sweet land of liberty (Philly) was in chaotic violent protests after Bernie Sanders did not get the nomination for being a Commie President. The Walt Whitman bridge was surrounded and I think The Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) was shut down. It made me so upset seeing such chaos in the city. good thing I do not live in Northern Liberties. But, it is still my town.
It was a setup by Jill Stein the green party candidate. She seems to be getting all of Commie Bernie’s votes instead of Hillary.

Here is Bill Clinton’s campaign strategy for Hillary: (Adult content)

I got way off the subject of losing weight and health concerns. In 7 days it feels like I lost atleast 5 pounds. But, I need Mr. Scale to check that out.

Last night was no snacking up to 11 PM watching Bill Clinton’s Speech.

I did snack in the afternoon: 3 Celery stalks with cream cheese. I did it again this afternoon at 230 pm. One thing different and it turns out to be a habit. But, I need more veggies for the higher fiber content. One can not get fiber out of beef strogonoff. Well, atleast it is not snacking on the Cronut in NYC’s SOHO area (half donut half croissant):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5ERDxnEu48

I do need more fiber, yet needs to cut out the KRYPTONITE: anything dairy. More spinach and greens would be best. I got almond and coconut milk yesterday at Price Chopper. Cut out the fresh milk. Challenging, but able to get it done. Atleast not eating the NYC and Philly junk foods anymore.

From MyFitnessPal – 35 grams of pearl barley (sounds like a portion to me, not an expert) is 120 cals but 27 carbs. If you’re trying to restrict your carbs to under 50g per day to drive weight loss that is quite a lot.

So I think that LACali21 is probably right, you should perhaps swerve the pearl barley unless you plan it in carefully.

Awwwwwww don’t cry… What phone do you have? Because it is compatible with…’Android devices equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 and running Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or later.’ Which means absolutely bugger all to me.

On the same page at the bottom, you can use the app without a Up wristband, but it seems this is via newer phones https://jawbone.com/support/articles/000011529/device-compatibility

I didn’t know about the above.

  • Yes, try an app – I do manage with MyFitnessPal, which I find helpful – it shows you all sorts of interesting things about the makeup of the food.

If you can keep your grams of carbs under 50g per day, that does help with weight loss.

Re nuts – just to let you know, it’s not the carbs which are the problem but the calories. For instance 25g of mixed nuts (which is not really a lot, probably c 20 – 22 nuts) is 166 calories, 1 carb, 16g fat. The fat isn’t a problem, on BSD full fat is good and it fills you up. But if you’ve only got 800 calories to play with, do use nuts in moderation!!

…just my thoughts to add to the host of ideasalready here for you!
I wasnt a lover of green veg two weeks ago..i seem to be addicted to it now!
Being able to put some delicious grass fed proper butter on them helps…
and Birds Eye do veggy steam-bags..stick in the microwave and 3 mins later theyre ready with no steamy kitchen or pongy cabbagey smell. They do a variety of mixes,my favourite is green medley: broc, peas, beans with a hint of garlic.
As for salad, i wasnt a big fan either but ive just had a load of lambs lettuce, watercress, red onion and celery with my dindins..its so nourishing, packed with vits and mins,so for the sake of good health if nothing else, tuck in..you’ll be glowing! πŸ˜‹ Xx

No, it was the tomato puree that I put in to counter the appalling taste, texture and lack of spice.

Do it!!! That’s what I did on Saturday, walked around the perimeter of Chester RUFC a few times because I’d been sat in the car. It’s amazing how all these steps add up. Even hubby pushed himself today, he’s got his set at 4000 at the mo, which isn’t great but it’s better than it has been for a long time as he’s had a lot of ill health. Plus, he’s exceeded it every day, in all fairness. Just keep edging it up a few hundred every couple of days and he’ll get there in the end. It does make you think about how much (or how little) you actually move. I’m on 5491 for today so far, which isn’t fantastic but it’s better than nothing.

Yayyyyyy Tokyo! Hellooooooooooooooo dear. I was hardly here myself, cleaning day today as little one is 10 tomorrow. Not so little one. So wanted house tidy for the swarm of visitors. I wonder if I’ll be able to resist the cake? I’ve done ok so far, but not going out and buying yourself a cake, is different to being faced with a cake, isn’t it? I might defrost a chocolate fairy cake and have it warmed with one scoop of Oppo on top so I don’t feel like I’m missing out. That would be double decadence because the cakes were lovely too, you wouldn’t be able to tell that either were ‘good for you’. Both would be just over 180 calories. Mind boggled. I’m already foregoing the takeaway (and no, I’m not paying for a bloody loose burger by throwing the bun, I can do that for myself at home, cheaper! πŸ˜‰ )

Tea was good, a Hemsley bap, toasted with poached egg on top, bacon medallions, waitrose pork sausage and some plum tomatoes.

Yayyyyy looking forward to ‘Challenge Tokyo’ then πŸ˜‰ Anything that encourages us to move more has to be good. And if that means competing, then so be it .
