Something that I’ve been concerned about for weeks (not strictly BSD, but the explanation kind of is!) is that when my cat has her favourite food, she tends to eat a lot more than when she has pouches (typically she’ll eat around 300g, where as 2 pouches is 170 to 200g) I don’t want her to get fat, and her Vet says that her .current weight and shape is ideal.

It has only just dawned on me – after weeks of counting calories and carbs for myself! – her favoured food is nearly all lean chicken, with no grains or junk added.
Duur – it will be high protein, low carb, so 300g could well be the same calories as smaller quantities of other cat food.
My intelligent little Froglet doesn’t need calorie counts on the tins to know how much to eat (it would help me though!!!!)

Think I’ll miss breakfast & go for brunch – although there’s a small piece of smoked salmon in the fridge, and the thought of it nestling next to a poached egg & some avocado is tempting!

Gooooood Morning Frog! That sounds like a very reasonable night out both alcohol and food wise.

I’ve just googled Susan Calman, I see she has one picture with a stuffed cat at her shoulder πŸ™‚ I can’t say I recognise her from her picture… although sometimes you have to see someone and hear them speak to recall… but I did see she posted this on Twitter

‘Thanks for all the lovely comments about @Go8BitComedy. It’s on UK Play now and on Dave on 5th September. Fab show, I lose my mind slightly.’

So I will set a reminder for that. I barely watch any television now. I maintain that I don’t like it, but I suspect the real reason is that I don’t get to control the handset in my own home, so I’ve probably fooled myself into thinking I don’t. If it’s not cartoons it’s Police interceptors, or coastguards, or fishing trawlers, or ice road truckers, or grown men eating bear poo in the wild, or customs officers, or people with shocking tattoos… And let’s not forget Rugby, Football and the Darts. Don’t mind so much about those but everything else… meh. You will always find me in my chair reading a book.

I do have a big tub of those tablets left, they just seemed to be full of spices and herbs and natural bits, so I will try seeing as I have them in, and failing that I will try the senna. I have to say I’m one of the awful ones who has never heeded the salt warning, I like my food salty, but in saying that, I am probably eating less salt now than I ever have. As you say, just by means of cutting out the processed foods alone, and the dusting of salt on the savoury food I actually eat now is quite possibly not cutting it. Good point. I will hunt that thread down now. Thank you Frog πŸ™‚

Morning Gavin! Enjoy your breakfast πŸ™‚

  • There’s a link that Igor posts quite often
    http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com

It helps you work out the quantities of fat and protein to aim for, based on the calorie and carb input.
TBH, I hate planning ahead and knowing exactly what I’m going to be eating the next day, let alone a week ahead – I tend to focus on counting calories and carbs, and the rest works itself out, but the keto calculator worked out for me that if I’m aiming for 50g of carb and 800 calories, that I need 45g of fat and 50g of protein, and I generally average around that.
I tend to think of it in my head of 50g each of carbs, fat and protein, which isn’t too far out.

    morning Lucky
she’s very funny – on radio 4 quite a lot, but I think I’ve seen her on HIGNFY a few times
added plus – she likes cats!
Not very exciting; just a drink after work, ONE glass of wine & lots of water, and mostly ignored the shared plates on the table (two breaded prawns, some bacon, and about 100g of chips)

try the Senna – if they don’t work the first day, jut take them the second day too, Lots of branded ones, but Boots is about half the price.
The other thing that can contribute to constipation on BSD is not getting enough salt. I know the general panic is about having too much salt, but easy to do if you’ve cut out lots of processed food.
On the thread “Anyone else having problems with excessive bathroom visits” Sunshine girl made a brilliant post about the mechanics of where the fat goes to (on 28 Aug) that covers this – do look back for it if you missed it the other day.

I really dislike the texture of psyliumm husk – makes, me gag, I find it really hard to swallow it, Do you still have any of the colon cleansing tablets left? they might do the trick.

Well, here we are again on “weigh in” date.

Last time I seem to remember I was approaching my ideal goal of 154 lbs – I had about 3 really good weeks and the net result was that I put on a few pounds. At the same time, I bought a pair of trousers which were uncomfortably tight.

I think the weight thing is fluid retention (which happens to me from time to time) BUT … the trousers are now a perfect fit so something is going the right way. Also, I’ve entered my height, weight etc into several web sites and my BMI comes out at about 23.5 which I believe is OK. (The web sites told me to stop losing weight)

Consequently, I’ve decided to stop obsessing over a particular goal, and instead am focussing on the REALLY difficult next stage, which is the rest of my life. As long as I can get into those trousers, job done.

I have never heard of Susan Caiman, Frog, I am going to look her up though. I like discovering new people. Or rather new to me. Foot has been ok thank you, for two days now, I think, I lose count 😊. I had wondered about senna tablets but are they enough to counter codeine? Maybe it’s me of little faith. Just got in??? Is this what it’s like to have a social life? πŸ˜‰

Ruth, now. You saying that. One of my other harebrained ‘diets’ was taking Garcinia Cambogia tablets earlier in the year, in conjunction with colon cleansing tablets. Completely natural, they actually taste like cloves, and I think the primary ingredient in those is psyllium husk? They did work anyway, I will check when I go downstairs. Thanks both of you ☺ get up and weigh now…

  • Hi
I started on Tuesday 30th, so can I join you group please! Like most of you here I’ve done countless diets over the years and always struggled, I’ve always known that eating carbs reduced my weight loss, and my potions sizes were too big. So this new lifestyle choice should help with both of these issues. I’ve had a dull headache for the last three days but I’m pushing past that, I’m drinking 3 litres of water throughout the day so I know I’m not dehydrated. I’ve joined a gym so I can go before or after work, I’m trying to break bad habits of a lifetime, evening and weekends were always my downfall so now I’ll go down to the gym or for a swin instead of eating. I’ve made breakfast muffins and super soup from the recipes to take into work and these were really tasty and I’ve had stir fry veg with fish for my evening meal. I’ll post my weekly weight losses, I must measure my waist today…..I’ve been putting it off!
Thank you for reading, lets hope we can help each other along when times are difficult.

Avila, so sorry about your dog. Is there no alternative?

Lucky, psyllium husks .They look carby but you do not absorb them and they work a treat. I have a historic horror of constipation for several reasons, including opiates. So always keep psyllium in the house, even though I did not need it when I was eating whole grains and pasta, and lots of veggie skins and lots of fruit. You need to start off small, and you need to drink a lot, but we are doing that anyway.

  • To be honest, I really don’t aim for a certain number of protein in a day. But if I were to look at my log on myfitnesspal, it’s anywhere between 12 to 15 g protein per meal. For carbs, I stay under 50 g, but I usually average at about 25 g carb daily. In each meal, I try to aim for a high quality protein, a good fat, some non starchy veggies whenever possible while keeping the calorie count low.

Made it through 1st week of 800. Down 3 lbs. For the first time in a week I felt indifferent about my little 38 calorie dark chocolate square that I’ve been having every night after dinner. Left it in the pantry for another time. That’s a great feeling! Not to be craving it so badly. I know cravings will come now and then, but it feels good to not be desperate for it.

Mini goal for this coming week is 2lbs down within a week and sticking to the food/calories for another whole week. I’d like to get closer to the 50 carb limit. I’m mostly in the 60s, and once this week in the 90s despite being free of bread, pasta, sweets, potatoes, rice, milk etc. I’m still really pleased with the diet and amazed that I feel so well. The forums are really encouraging!

  • do u use protien shakes and /or meal replacement bars? I noticed how much protein you are taking in and thought maybe u use shakes. I have been using shakes and mean replacement bars for two of three meals each day. Wondering if that is allowed? I wonder if anyone out there uses protein bars and shakes?

  • I will join you. I have been on the 800 cal for 8 weeks for 11 days but only lost 7 lbs. One month ago I began my own “starvation diet” and total loss for 1 month is 20 lbs. Tonight I went off diet, but will be back on it tomorrow. It isn’t that hard. It is all in the mind..so let’s keep each other going!

Congrats to everyone doing so well! We are all a great group of teammates on our journey!
Down 83 lbs now and it’s mid week 18. Today I went through all drawers and took another two bags of items to goodwill. Had gorgeous sweaters and items with tags still on them. I am now done going through my clothes and getting rid of items that are big.
I even tried a drawer of items marked too small and they all fit now.
I need a new jacket and they aren’t for sale here yet so I still will keep the one that’s 10 sizes too big for now as the stores day they’ll be out mid September.
I notice I am getting colder as the weather changes. Wearing baggy sweat clothes (I kept one set for sleeping in when it’s cold) with warm socks and a blanket on me. It’s only 64 but it seems so cold today. I seem to be fighting the sniffles too so maybe that’s why. Should be fine by tomorrow.
I got my clothes ready for my 2 week work and vacation trip to Southern California with my husband. It’s so fun as I pack all the smaller clothes which take less room since 10-12 sizes is a lot less material. And packing new things is fun as well.
I will be able to fit regular size clothes on the trip so maybe I will find some good deal to buy.
My next target is to get below the next 10 lb mark which is 1 lb away. Maybe this week as Friday is weigh day.
My sneakers are an inch too big so I went to the shoe store and they taught me to do a runners loop to keep them more snug. They are only four months old so I don’t want to buy news ones yet.
Had my photo shoot down yesterday since my clients keep telling me photos on my site are not reflecting how I look now. Also have a before and after graphic I use on my site.
I am looking forward to some California sun after this switch to cold weather here today and for a while.
Anyone in southern cal that would like to meet up? That would be great!
    Take care everyone!

  • Day 3: 811 cals
    Breakfast -eggs
Lunch-grilled chicken salad w olive oil & lemon
    Snack-raw almond, miso soup
    Dinner-baked chicken w steam broccoli

With this diet, I always get terribly hungry at 3pm—clear broth soup and sparkling water really pulls me through.

Also, I get so tired around 4:30-6pm. An evening walk seems to help, but it takes a lot of effort to get out there. I hope this tiredness is temporary.

Hope everyone is doing well. And congrats to those of you who are dropping the weight so quickly! πŸ™‚

Hi Lucky – Just got in, playing catch up!
    a) Susan Calman
    b) sorry to hear you’re on tablets for your back – is your foot any better? When you’re a svelte size ten, all the aches and pains will magically disapear
    c) try senna tablets – very gentle

Avila – so sorry to hear about your dog, that’s awful.
Hugs from Froglet (even tho she’s not hugely keen on dogs)

Barista – life on maintenance – whew!
Is that just you, or your mum as well? (or is it the other way round, I remember that you were both doing the diet and posting in unison at one stage)

I picked up smoked salmon pate yesterday, then realised at home that I usually eat it on toast. Pretty good with spinach leaves!

    Snacks: Grapes, blue cheese, cashews
    Drinks: 2 tea with milk
    Water: 7 glasses
    Calories: 749

Steps: 22,975 (including 6 km walk)
    Weight loss: 100g (61.8kg)

    Hey Caro,
I have to admit that I get up early to run. I meet my running buddy at about 5.30am. I work full-time so I have to squeeze in the walks whenever I can. While my children are at swimming lessons I get to go for a walk, music lessons etc. Also, I often go out as soon as my husband gets home from work and he takes over cooking the dinner which is a big help.

Don’t be disheartened. There will always be weeks when the loss is big and then the next week, it will be small. I am having a small loss week as well this week. Enjoy the last few days with your husband.

Ffaster – I can totally relate. I’m so used to relaxing with a glass of red in the evenings. I now drink loads of water at night and I no longer think about having a glass of wine. I think it was the sugar in the wine that I was addicted to.

It’s the first day of Spring here in Oz, a great day to start, and unlike on my other attempts this time I am able to exercise. I plan to begin with walking. I am 154cm tall (5′ 1″), 46 years old, and 83.3kg (13 st 2 lbs in English money). I am determined to get rid of pre-diabetes, sleep apnoea, and the mini heart attack I have every time I look in the mirror!

I will have to re read for sure about carb amounts. I have done the alternate day fast with 500 calories every other day so this will be easier. I am also a cook so I’m use to making food for all different lifestyles medically and otherwise. (That has been part of my problem..always into foods)
Was just diagnosed with prediabetes and my blood pressure has increased so it’s time to buckle down and be serious …

    Hello,
I havent posted much but have enjoyed reading everyone’s updates. I’ve lost 11kg so far in total so am 4kg off a normal BMI. Obviously I’m really delighted with that. I would disagree with the things in the book which say the hunger goes away because sometimes I feel sick of being hungry all the time but it’s worth pressing on. My sugar cravings haven’t really gone away either and am worried about indulging them on the other side but am staying firm for now. Got a few meals out coming up so need to keep focussed. Hope others are doing ok.

  • Sandralea, the BSD simply advises no refined carbs (bread, rice, potatoes etc as you will have read)

However many people on these forums find in addition that restricting the allowed carbs to 50g or less within the 800 calories can help kick-start weight loss. You can track nutritional contents of your food with one of many apps available. I found MyFitnessPal (free) very helpful in keeping track and recording meals each day.

Do use the SEARCH facility top right for any particular queries – the forum members are great sources of info abs guidance as we all have either done the BSD or are doing it ! πŸ™‚

    Hope that helps.
