Hubby made the skinny chilli last night which has become a favourite now. Tonight I am making Chicken wrapped in Parma Ham, 320 calories and zero carbs, think I will have it with cauli garlic mash which adds 140 calories and 4 grams of carbs.

ANTIGONE,You’re prob losing a bit less than me coz you have very likely have far less to lose x i want to lose two more stone but even then wont be back to the slip of a thing i used to be! In fact, will still be rather large, but at 66 years of age and not in good health, i can settle happily for being size 16 and feeling a lot more comfy in my skin!
Well done on nearing your end of 8 week weigh in..i do hope ypu drop into the next stone bracket, its such a satisfactory feel isnt it! Look forward to hearing on monday x
LESSNESS 3 lb down and great blood sugar readings are a great start! Stick with it,take on board what Igor and MIx suggest, and see what happens! Sometimes we have to be patient then we get rewarded with a nice drop in weight. X

  • Been to the doctors for my Fit to Exercise Certificate before I join a Zumba class on Monday. According to his scales I have lost another 2kgs since 10th August. Had not realised it was that much. Might be getting in the pool later today as it is getting hotter here.

I have had to go and see my doctor for something unrelated to diabetes, but to do with getting fit. I want to join a Zumba class and here in France you have to produce a certificate saying you are not going to drop dead. Something to do with insurance.

Anyway, I only saw him on about 10th August so just over a month ago and I had a mini goal to have lost a kilo since my last visit. Low and behold, on his scales I have lost 2 kgs so he is well pleased. So am I. I didn’t get a chance to talk about the diet as I will discuss that when I see him specifically for the diabetes so I don’t know yet if he has done any research but I did mention c’est a cause du regime je suis – it is because of the diet I am following. He gave me a big thumbs up.

JULIO Please bear in mind a small 50 calorie apple has15 carbs..quite a big amount out of a daily 50 i’ m trying to keep below.
Thats according to my carb calculator anyway..i could hardly believe my eyes when i read it!Its quite dismaying isnt it.. I used to eat a small pink lady apple whenever i was peckish. Theyre very good for us tho so maybe just have an apple slice or two. I have one small apple now once every 2 weeks or so,a banana even less often. So much goodness in these fruits so i guess its why MM suggests having them now and again x

Thanks Topcac, and Hello! I have been lurking on the boards for a few weeks and remember reading about adding a little salt in if things were grim. I will definitely do that. I am probably very naive but I am hoping to avoid carb flu – I have never eaten a huge amount of them, my issue is refind sugar; cakes, biscuits, sponge puddings etc. Fortunately we have a quiet weekend planned so if I do feel rough I can take it easy.

Off to cook lunch now, bacon medallion, scrambled eggs and tomato.

Welcome to the forum! Hopefully you are already feeling the benefits of low carb living even on day two! Have a read of some of the other threads here and they should give you all the encouragement and advice you should need. After day two you MAY (and I can’t emphasise that enough) feel a little rough as your body adapts to the vast decrease in carbs – also known as carb flu – you may feel shaky, lightheaded, weak, you may get a headache – all this is quite normal. If you do feel like that try to rest, drink loads of water and (I know this sounds counter-intuitive) add some salt to your meals. Your body will be flushing a lot of toxins outs, along with fat and salts so you will need to replace them.

Everyone on the boards is helpful and supportive so if you have any questions, just put it up here and someone will help. I’m only on Day 12 so I’m no expert but I can also still remember what starting out was like (seems forever ago).

Best of luck and keep posting

Yep I like it as well, it’s replaced muesli as my standard breakfast. I think Timmy’s right though, for me at least. I’ll have to swap the mango for apple if I’m going to be eating it several times a week.

    Hey Yowzer – brilliant!
That is an excellent daily average loss – I am going to have to up my game now as my daily average is only 6oz!
My next weigh-in is Monday morning (NOT a good day right after the weekend etc) it will be the end of my first 8 weeks and hopefully (one pound to go) into another stone bracket. Then I am away for 10 days. Bit scared of what other scales may say – although that could go either way I suppose! My scales are a bit rubbish but as I am only interested in BIG shifts I’m not too worried. We’ll have to come up with a special BSD celebratory meal menu for all these triumphs ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi I’m new. I have started this thread as a log for myself but feel free to add comments or advice. Good luck to the newbies and well done to those having successes.

I started the bsd yesterday. I am not diabetic but am in the “obese” category and carry a lot of weight around my middle. For some time I have felt very uncomfortable in myself, and the clothes that I am wearing. I want to feel good again. Had a few days of eating “cleanly” last week and the psychological difference was amazing.

Starting weight 15 stone/95 kilos. Eventual goal weight is 10 stone/65 kilos. Using the bsd to kick start some weight loss and start to form much better habits and choices after the eight weeks.

The first day yesterday was easy. I thought I would be climbing the walls with hunger but I wasn’t. What I ate satisfied me, and I had no cravings. I think subconsciously I was waiting for them and so was pleasantly surprised when I did not have any.

I did jump on the scales this morning and had lost 3lbs, so am thrilled this morning.

While doing the bsd I am cooking/making everything myself and have also decided to not add salt to anything. Also alternating my tea with cups of decaf with a view to switching to decaf permanently. I have suffered with migraines for many years and I am interested to see if these changes have any effects on the migraine cycle.

A ‘handful’ is similar to the following: a drizzle, a little bit of and ‘some’ which are also in the book ๐Ÿ™‚ , – I guess it’s your body so it should be your handful, makes sense in the analogy above – little body, small hands, smaller needs? It looks like I started on the same day as you so my advice, for what it’s worth, is do it until it stops working – then change it……..

I love that breakfast and have had it several times in the last two weeks since I started – I lost 7lbs in my first week and have yet to weigh in my second week – I’m gonna go with it until I stop losing or reach a plateau, then it’s something I may decide to cut out.

Hi Julio, and welcome to the forum.

I think in the book he says that small amounts of these kinds of fruit (eaten infrequently) are ok.

I’ve chosen not to eat mango/banana etc

My first question about the diet. In the Blood Sugar Diet book, Dr Mosley recommends avoiding tropical fruit such as mangoes, but then includes mangos with yoghurt and nuts in some of the breakfast recipes in the same book. What’s that about?

Hello to everyone on the BSD good luck with your diets.

I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic about 6 weeks ago, my Mum told me about the book and so I bought it. I started dieting a few weeks ago and have lost about a stone and a half, sticking to the diet more and more as time went on. Initially I just removed carbs and sugars from my diet, but recently have ditched muesli breakfasts, weekend fry ups and I’ve gone for yoghurt with nuts and fruit for breakfast and smaller main meals in the evenings, with leftovers for lunch.

I’ve always tried to be reasonably active, cycling to work and going for walks, and I thought I was eating reasonably healthily : plenty of salads and fruit. But I liked my pies and fish and chips as well :S by the time of my diagnosis I was about 17.5 stone. Clearly I was kidding myself with the healthy eating stuff.

Anyway nice to join you all.

  • Thanks Antigone.

We are staying in a hotel for 2 nights and have not fallen into the trap of booking breakfast. Thought this would be better for us as we don’t normally eat breakfast anyway, so why overindulge.
Will be with friends during the day but luckily she has also been dieting (Cambridge Diet) so I know we will be ‘safe’ when we are in her home. She will not be trying to get us to eat cakes, biscuits etc. She does however, tend to put out small bowls of salted nuts, which have been ‘morish’ when sitting around talking.
We are going to weigh on Sunday morning before we set off on our 3 hour drive so we will see what damage may have been done when we re-weigh on Wednesday morning. I am going to pack the BSD Ploughman meal to have in the day and hopefully the buffet later in the day will have suitable food for us to graze on.

Watch this space as I will let you all know how we get on. ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿผ or ๐Ÿ‘น

PS. Going to go through my clothes when I have dropped 28lb so I wond be tempted to ‘grow’ into them.

I think I can just about see the wagon on the horizon. I’m still eating impeccably but those damn tasty beers and wine keep on popping up. That said, I’m still at 88.5kg, with a BMI of 23.7 and haven’t put on any weight, and if anything, I still think my waist is shrinking.

The suit that I’ve had in my wardrobe for 6 years but never managed to fit into is now feeling a bit loose, most of my Tshirts and trousers are too baggy for me now, so I think I’m going to have to buy a complete new wardrobe, and I’m staring down the barrel of having to buy 32″ waist jeans which I haven’t done since I was a scrawny teenager! And it’s no mean feat getting ones that fit properly when you’re as tall as I am.

Anyway, my next mini goal is to lose the last belly flab and moob flab and reach my target weight of 85kg. Then it’s just a case of carrying on with my exercising.

Lauralou, try mixing up your exercises. Whilst running is a great cardiovascular exercise, it’s not the best for losing fat. I would try to work in some HIIT and some weights, as both are proven to burn fat.

That aside, don’t lose hope. I don’t know how many times I’ve read on here that people have plateaued on week 3! Keep it up and it will come off.

I have been hanging off the wagon for a while but remotivated earlier this week and have seen the 8 in the first time – 89.9 kg give or take a 100g that is 10 kgs lost since I started 1 Aug (and with 3 rubbish weeks) and 10% body weight!!!

I know I was close to it when stress derailed me, but it is really good to have an early win when getting back onto the wagon seriously to spur me on.

  • Hello Nomorepanic
good to meet you ๐Ÿ™‚ Sounds like this is the beginning of some good changes in your life. You will do just fine – as Boligreen says use the forum for support (tbh I’m a bit addicted now – can’t imagine a day without checking in!) We’ve all had bad days and come through – and we’re learning how to avoid self-sabotage – a very odd aspect of human behaviour! Keep posting. There will be many who follow and can offer support and many who will find support in your posts. Remember everything averages out so one bad day in a week of good days amounts to very little – and soon you will lose the taste for sweet things and not be tempted. Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Yay! Well done Mental! So pleased for you … You will waltz through the christening (just remember how good you feel today when tempted!) You reminded me of a radio play called Emily Rising – where she floated away lol! Sounds like a good act for the BSD Circus!
12lbs in 3 weeks is brilliant! I love the little private triumphs – a bit like coming home from Narnia – no one knows except you and others who have been through the wardrobe! Ha! We are all sort of going through the wardrobe! I am going to throw out some of my old ‘circus’ trousers today ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Who’s a very ‘Happy Bunny’. Me, Me, Me……. Just ended our 3rd week and have lost another 4 lb, making a total of 12 lb. I still cannot believe I am feeling so good and not craving food all the time.

As previously mentioned by others my self esteem has rocketed and I walk a little taller. How high will I be walking in a few weeks time when I have lost even more weight. My OH will have to tie a piece of string around my ankle to stop me floating away ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽˆ ha ha.

Only one black cloud on the horizon at the moment is a Christening we are attending on Sunday and will be staying on for a further 2 days. So we may be slacking a little but hopefully still eat sensibly.

    Hi Natalie,

It sounds like you are working hard to protect your children from what we now know is an obesity epidemic. I also have a husband with a sweet tooth who buys chocolate and lollies. I have asked him to a) keep them out of site and b) not eat them in front of the kids.

Juice is only allowed at parties and special occasions. I personally got very overweight as a child and I will not let this happen to my kids as it is now known that 80% of overweight kids end up obese as adults.

Is there anywhere your husband can keep his juice/cordial out of sight? Can he drink it out of metal bottle so they don’t see it? Has your husband read some of the data coming out on how unhealthy is sugar is? Maybe if he read a few articles he would want to stop having it in the house.

Great that you are setting a fantastic example for your kids. Gluck.

    Hi Daniel

I have one word for you ‘vegetables’ Lots and lots of low starch veggies with pepper, and a little salt and a very little oil or butter or shaving of cheese – not 4 ounces! or whatever flavouring you like. You will pad out your meals and take longer to eat them and feel fuller and happier at the end of them. Do you put lots in your soup? Do you fill up your Spanish omelette with peppers and onions and ….. anything. I have discovered I adore cauliflower plain without cheese sauce and broccoli and aubergine and zucchini are very filling and tasty as well

Look at the recipes in MM’s book and pad them out with lots more low starch veg.

    Good luck.

    Hi Lucyjane

Well done on your loss and your targets!

    Re the wedding:
I find having a target number of glasses of wine works and also drink at least one glass of fizzy water per glass of wine. Drinking the water gives you something to do with your hands whilst talking to people!

Depending on what’s served at the wedding breakfast – try and go for protein and non-starchy veg. And perhaps half the dessert (or a small portion of fruit) if you can’t swerve it totally.

But the water is the best aid!

    Enjoy and good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve done fasting a couple of times before …. after the first 2 days i usually felt great, although i did have some episodes of feeling faint. I did just over 3 weeks one time …. only quit fasting because i was still working then and it’s difficult to maintain.

Perhaps it was because my diabetes was worse and of longer duration, plus i decided to get back to doing aquabics and walking … this time i really didn’t enjoy the fasting experience and was just doing it because i had a head of steam up about loosing weight and wanted to take advantage of the extreme focus. I was so sick a few months ago it scared me.

I’ve just had a couple of days of overeating and drinking …. and i’ve settled down emotionally. I’m still focused but not fanatically so. I’m going to work the 800 calorie, low carb BSD. And i’m going to increase my exercise as i feel up to it. Not going to worry about a slip up now and then …. and take the results as they come.

I think i’ll be fine with that.
