    First Weigh In
Week 2 day 2 and I’ve lost 12.3 lbs (5.5kg) and 5.5″ off my waist.
Ecstatic is an understatement. WOW! That takes me over half way to my waist target and nearly a quarter to my weight loss. Happy happy day 😊

  • DAY 16 of 28

    Good morning/evening

Good to see how well everyone is doing. I’ve been standing still for 4 days now so I think its time to start weighing and logging again! It’s amazing how easy it is to lose the habit but I will get back to it today.

Talking about charity shops ..again… I have dress that needs shortening but I’m just not sure if it’s worth doing. It’s a clingy material but is slightly gathered under the bust. I guess to accommodate a bigger tummy, which I don’t have now! Can I ask you mixnmatch if it’s worth straightening the hem , which dips quite a bit in the front or should I just dump it!!!

Anyway, hope you all have a good day.

    1st Weigh in
I’m on Week 2, day 2 and did my first weigh in today. Was SO nervous.
Results are 12.5lbs lost 😳, 5.5″ off my waist!!!!! I cannot believe it! Totally ecstatic and almost a quarter of weight loss target achieved and over half of inch loss!
The power of the BSD is incredible. I am a very very happy girl.

Yep the post Xmass downward rush is mainly water, weeing for Britain again, made worst by drinking like a fish (do fishes actually drink?), not making the mistake of not drinking enough, only downside until it settles is the waking up every 1 to 1.5 hours to wee?
I had not thought of the wait when I was married 37yrs ago on5 Jan, that target will come after I achieve my knee Op weight target.

At this morning’s weigh in I hit BMI 25 again. I do like the post period ‘whoosh’ effect, it makes such a big difference when the weight goes so easily you know it was just water. Now just under 3 pounds left to hit my lowest weight since my honeymoon 24 years ago again. Hopefully I can lose that before the end of the 27th challenge, but if not I will keep on keeping on.

So I went to the supermarket last night.
Two trolleys parked across the aisle.
Their owners had one hand on them as they grazed.

So I shouted… RAMMiNG SPEED !!!! and took off, hubby hid in the next aisle.
    The trolleys soon parted!

    Have a clear path day.

It’s great that you have maintained since June. It is so inspirational to read that this way of eating works long term. I have been on maintenance now for just over a month and have lost 1lb in that time. The fats are really the key to this for me also – especially the cream in my coffee which I absolutely love.

Then to break the 23stone mark and stay in 22stone and continue down

  • Hi VeganSarah

Well done you. Completely understand re the difference in the hunger. I’m getting less hungry and more satisfied with smaller portions already too. Just like it says in the book and yet I’m still amazed at the changes.

Do you have an avocado on it’s own for breakfast ? Not my favourite food but I’m willing to try different ideas.

Again, great to hear of your weight loss – you must feel so happy.

Why do I keep giving you ideas to do the bs diet only by half?
Well I found it difficult to change from eating tons of junk,
    To 800 calories.
So I wrote a food diary first.
Then I changed from junk food to normal food.
    Then counted my calories
I change just one meal a day
    Then counted the carbs.

Then I was on the bs diet.

So if the task seems too hard, too much, don’t look at it as a wall.
Just focus one one little brick.

You and I will get there.

  • Hi inka, tumtum, jacks, and thanks for responding. The broccoli and cheese soup looks great, I just need some time this weekend to batch cook!

I know there are lots of individual items, but I like to eat something that feels like a cooked meal at work, soup and stew making I reckon! But in the meantime salads, omlettes, and ham rolls!

Happy bsd’ng everyone, isn’t this fab?

  • Hi Everyone.I’m having a good day. I have managed to do some form of movement, not really exercise, every day.I have missed breakfast for 2 days and tightened up my portions and success . I’m down below 84Kg and best of all my sugar was 5.5 today the best since Christmas. Thanks to everyone for the posts. It definitely helps to gather ideas and tips from everyone.
All the discussion of clothes and charity shops sent me to trying things on and sorting the wardrobe. I have not kept anything that’s too loose. I also saw on a TV program that de cluttering helps to loose weight as it lightens your burdens and simplifies life. So I have been ruthless in donating excess sheets towels etc I had collected multiple sets of linen that I haven’t used in over a year and I did not keep stuff for” just in case” and truthfully , I feel great,on top of my life and in control of what I eat. I wonder how long it will last. Ill let you know. Best wishes to you all.

    Hi Gang,
Now it’s around this time that I can find other things to do instead of exercise.
    Snow is forecast tomorrow.
I work long hours at a desk, hardly moving.
    But,
When I see I have lost one full pound of blubber in one day, I feel on top of the world.
Find something that weighs one pound.
Get the scales out an pd weigh a couple of tins, or the soap powder, anything.
Now hold it in you hands and stretch out your arms in front of you, in seconds , it gets heavier and heavier. Wow, it weighs a ton. Glad I can drop my arms.
Now you know how your body feels when you lose one full pound.

  • Marion53 I also had yogurt berries and toasted flaked almonds for breakfast yesterday (and today) also had a tuna salad for lunch, and a ham cheese mushroom and spring onion omelette for dinner with a handful of rocket and parsley. 3 coffees, 2 with milk and one with cream and lots of fizzy water.

I have weighed in again today….. This is only the start if day 3 and I have lost another 2 pounds, so 12.11 now down from 13.2 on Monday!! Whoop whoop the weight loss is so motivating, even if it is just water, way better than thought a vomiting bug for quick results! 😂

Hi Everyone who started this week! Looking forward to sharing the next 8 weeks together! I’m a newbie to the program, diagnosed with T2 6 months ago. My goal is to reverse my T2. My GP is sceptical, gave her the program letter and clinical study for a bed-time read 😀 I live in fantastic Melbourne, Australia. I’ve lost 12kg since being diagnosed and my HbA1C is down from 10.8 to 5.5 following low GI as much as possible. My GP says it’s a miracle lol! I say it’s much better choices and research! I plan to lose 15kg in the next 8 weeks. Then hopefully get off Metformin!!! While I still would have a way to go, that would bring my total weight loss to around 40kg in just under 2 years. Now that can only be a good thing!!! Good luck everyone, wishing you all a great weeks ahead! Look forward to hearing about your progress. 🙋🏼

If you’re diabetic there’s something about blood sugar rising just in anticipation of a sweet taste like a diet drink, which tbh I thought was a load of rubbish, but apparently quite well documented.

I drank it for the first two weeks on bsd and it’s telling that my bs only really started to stabilise when I stopped. Also, if you google the effects of aspartamene on the body you’d never touch it again.

The diabetic dietician I saw early doors in my diagnosis (who also recommended low fat cheese and yoghurt and plenty of starchy veg) suggested I replace fruit juice with diet drinks at breakfast! I compromise with fizzy water and lemon juice these days. MKx

Hi, just wondering if it’s possible to get the recipes and shopping list as serves for one person? It seems there are recipes that have 1, 2 or 4 serves. 2 serves works if there are 2 times that meal is on the program twice in the week. It’s taking quite some time to go through all the recipes and work out what is actually required for one person doing the program as buying all the food on the shopping list is not required and a waste. Thanks 🙂

  • Good morning/evening! Wow! So many big losers on here – excellently well done one and all. Losing weight takes a lot of hard work and focus everyone on here is to be congratulated.

Woo hoo, I weighed in slightly under my pre Christmas weight this morning (happy face) so am losing well. After about the first 7-10days on BSD I felt so awful I seriously wondered how on earth I was going to manage on 800 cals a day, I now know what I was experiencing was most likely carb ‘flu. Now, every day I have to double check my food log because I feel as if I am eating WAY too much, but still it tells me I’m averaging around 800 cals per day (or a smidge over). The scales seem to concur!

Here’s wishing everyone a happy and successful BSD Wednesday.

Welcome Leshaz! I hope your BSD journey goes well — don’t worry too much — as you go forward you will find out what works best for your body and your life — lots of ways will work fine if you follow the general principles.
That said, this is not a low fat diet and you are encouraged to use full fat yogurt and cream and butter and olive oil and coconut oil — kind of a big change from what we have been taught but you will grow to love the real food and the fats will keep you from getting hungry. One of the biggest things that will help you is moving away from carbohydrates and toward fats — this is because carbohydrate triggers the release of insulin, which is known colloquially as “the fat storage hormone”. When you eat carbohydrates (most particularly sugar and refined flours and rice/potato/ peas/corn etc..) your body responds to these sugars and pumps out insulin to get it into your cells and out of the blood stream (where it causes damage). The problem is that when insulin has “cleared” your bloodstream of sugar, you experience it as a low blood-sugar episode — which you probably know as shaky, panicky, adrenalin fueled eating.
When you eat fat however, your insulin levels do not rise significantly, so your insulin stays low and fat moves actively in and out of your cells as needed to fuel your body. That keeps your hunger in check and let’s you mobilize your stored fat.
So use cream in coffee, not milk. You can use heavy cream — just measure it. I drink a lot of coffee, probably 3-4 cups per day and I have heavy cream (2 Tablespoons) in my first morning cup because it is amazing and I can go for hours on it. The rest I drink black!
I’m almost at my one year anniversary on the BSD — met my goal back in June, now maintaining. So I know it works and I know it’s healthy! Hope you enjoy your new way of eating — it is so much more fun! It has changed my life.

I have always thought that eating basmati rice is fine as it is low GI and much better than brown – or should rice just be avoided completely?
On the BSD are you allowed to have coconut cream/milk?
Also I have always purchased chicken thighs over breasts as they do not dry out during cooking process…is this ok to substitute?
Can anyone suggest a good app/website for food calorie counts/carb counts?
    Thanks in advance!!!

Hi am gearing up to start the BSD and I too want to still have at least 2-3 coffees a day. I drink instant coffee, full fat milk and 1 sugar…however I need to substitute the sugar with something else like Stevia or xylitol. Any suggestions as to which one is best? Also as KrysiaD mentioned she adds cream instead of milk…is this like thickened cream? Is cream better than milk on the BSD? Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.

  • Hi New Kathy (and everyone on this thread) Reading your post sounded a lot like me!! I have 40kg to lose, not diabetic and am a teacher. I am really determined to do this as being so overweight is affecting my life far too much for my liking! I have just finished reading the book and during that time have already made some slight changes to my eating habits. I am gearing up to start early next week and am going by the rule of ‘Prior preparation prevents poor performance’ so going to ensure everything is in place to give me the best start. Would love to keep in touch to help motivate, encourage and support. Best of luck – we can do this!!!

  • Have just watched The Sugar Farm on tv tonight and it was great to see other people following a similar diet. Was feeling hungry and a bit tetchy beforehand, but watching this programme cheered me up! Just shows that keeping the brain occupied helps and keeps our minds off that kitchen, where I too can be found lurking in the evenings!

I’m not a nutritionist but I read that both the high caffeine content and chemically created sweeteners in Pepsi Max don’t fit with a low carb way of eating. What I find is that I crave the sweetness of Pepsi max and therefore I can’t leave it alone. So I fall back into a sugar addition even when it’s a chemical sweetener. Well done with your weight loss though. Impressive!

Just resurrecting this thread as many of the newbie posters won’t be aware of it and I found it so useful when I was losing my weight to break down the massive target into smaller achievements. I have just repassed the 7 1/2 stone, 40% body weight lost mini-goal 😀 after my expected rebound in December, and some indulgences over Christmas and new year. Next mini-goal is BMI 25 again, then under 11 stone, matching my previous low of 10 stone 13. After that it’s onwards and downwards to a new low, and 8 stone off at 10 stone 11.

  • I have lost over 100 pounds since Feb 2015, most of it last year when I discovered this way of eating. Just over 7 1/2 stone at the moment, and if I make my target soon that will be 50 kilos lost and 45% of my former bodyweight. See what I mean about tracking lots of things 😀 Clothes sizes from 22 to size 10-12 and a whole heap of improvements to my Health. It has in some ways been the easiest way of eating I have ever tried, and far better than any short term diet plan.

  • Thanks for taking time to reply…Cleverblonde I don’t have diabetes…yet, but very aware it could be just round the corner if I don’t take action…it’s more I’m fat and unfit and my joints are starting to complain!
Fifi and Flo I have noticed I am grumpy today too …really hope that doesn’t last!
SunnyB…I would love to get to a maintenance phase of a diet/eating plan…next time will be the first 😄

Hi jmarie, that sounds like a gruelling day you have…I’m amazed you have the energy for a work out.

I see in the news that California has bad flooding…hope you’re not affected. Oh and I saw the photo of the famous tree that had fallen down, such a pity, but the vegetation suffers so badly during the periods of drought and flooding.

My peak was a pleasant afternoon with my students…

And the pit…a failure to walk. I didn’t have much time and the weather was miserable, cold, wet and windy. I used the time pressure as an excuse but I could have made time (and would have done if the sun had been shining. Oh I am such a princess!)

Tomorrow I look after my grandchildren. I know they will give me a good work out!

    Have a good day, jmarie…

Snoop – I am with you on the miso. Love the stuff.
And loathe the trolleys across the aisles in the supermarket, Lucia. But I find it happens mostly if I am silly enough to go in just before Christmas – folk seem to go crazy in their efforts to bag the last lot of Brussels sprouts. Personally speaking, they are welcome to them. I prefer cabbage – just as explosive as the sprouts but tastes nicer!

  • I used the concept of mini-goals to get small celebrations while I was losing the weight. These aren’t really targets as such, but such things as making it into the next stone down, losing half a stone or 5 kilos (or both in my case) a percentage of your former body weight, or even non scale victories like needing to punch new holes in your favourite belt or dropping clothes sizes. There is a thread on the forum for sharing the celebrations although it seems to have become a little disused.

Wow Lynn, that was a great result! I’m a big fan of charity shop bargains and often do the rounds of the local ones, in the hope of a good find – sometimes successful and sometimes not. So envious of the size 10 but you really deserve it! Not sure I’ll get there, but I’m happy to be comfortably in a 12 for now and will see where it goes from there. I know what you mean about feeling you’re taking a risk, looking a clothes you have avoided for a long time. I can’t get out of the ‘baggy-cover-all’ mind set – keep forgetting I have a waist again and no muffin tops any more.

Hope you have a good day at your conference tomorrow.

  • I have also had some losses this week, have stuck religiously to the plan and what do you know?? 3 pounds down this week so far! Why oh why do I let myself slip when it’s obvious how well it works?? Keeping strong now though, I feel like I have my BSD mojo back, must just get through birthday weekend!
Lovely to read all your posts as always, keeps me going, my carb addiction has been replaced by a forum addiction I think!

  • The first week can be tough, but I think for most people, the results after seven days makes it all worthwhile. Have been on a sort of maintenance phase, but I’m back on the 800 to try to shift the last few pounds to hopefully hit my ultimate target weight.

Found yesterday, my first day back on the 800, was a little difficult, with some hunger pangs and a bit of a headache by the evening. Today has been much better though and I have managed to be quite disciplined. Found myself in the kitchen a couple of times, pondering what I could have to snack, but on questioning myself, decided I didn’t need it and actually if I was honest didn’t really want it either.

Good luck to all of you just setting out on your BSD adventure. looking forward to reading of your successes.

    Hi mumofcrazynamedkids,
I have banged on about this recipe before but a delicious filling soup is the broccoli and mature cheddar soup on the recipe part of this forum. I didn’t think I’d like it but its really, really good! And so filling. I use regular instead of semi-skimmed milk but it’s do rich a small bowl goes a long way.
Well done Elaine, BuffyLover, Lexy4France and everyone else with your losses and positive thoughts, a great start! Good luck EarlofC on your first few days! You will do great!
Granny, quite a few people have noticed the amounts in the recipes can be quite different to logging them in real life, often the book says they are lower than they actually are, you could probably do a thread search on it.

  • Hi there. Good luck with your first week. I found it a bit tricky and I envy the people who find they don’t feel hungry – afraid I felt grumpy and ravenous the first few days. But when I weighed in after week 1 this morning I was pleasantly surprised so that helped spur me on to keep going. Wishing you lots of success!
