Lucia and Catgirl
My very ex-husband did a good job of destroying my self-confidence. I was on the end of his fist many times and had both wrists broken at different times, then there was the mental abuse. But that was a long time ago.
Over the years I’ve rebuilt ‘me’. I can laugh, enjoy myself, do what I want, when I want. I gained my degree a couple of years ago (at age 63) and am in a high stress job.
Perhaps the last thing to go is my ‘shield’ of fat? I might have been using it as a defence. I don’t know. But now is the time for it to go. I don’t need it any more. As Catgirlnsays, there’s a lot of living to do. Even for a golden oldie (or silver surfer) like me.

Hi Annie 16
Burning carbs, not biting them!!
Penny -
I’m with RozyDozy and SunnyB: Tesco finest and Lidl but Milbona Greek style. Fage is yum too but less fat (and that’s not the 0% or 2% they do!)
Have you tried the rhubarb compote recipe that Michael has put in the book? It made two small tubs so I have froze one and have calculated that I’ll get 5 scoops from each pot for my tasting. I added some nutmeg to it.
I’m going to try to make a porridge tomorrow with Eat Water Slim Rice, Greek full fat yoghurt, fresh cream and top with some of the rhubarb and flaxseed. I use a ramekin to control quantity and tell myself if I want another portion 30 mins after my last mouthful, I can have one. Of course, I never do! I sip my coffee and enter my food into myfitnesspal and clear up, forgetting the idea of further portions.

Callmedeb DON’T throw away the small clothes, i almost threw mine away 3 weeks ago. Am i glad i didn’t! π

I am glad you all like my reward scheme. I know what motivates me, lol. I REALLY need new lunch containers. I hadn’t thought of flowers… We won’t be ready for planting anything for another month or so here in the Great White (mostly brown right now) North tm, so I may have to revise list a bit.
I’m about to head home for the evening. Have a great night all!

When I read your opening few sentences I thought you’d had a sneaky look into my own life – that was me 3 weeks ago. I’m in the middle of week 4 and have lost 13lbs so far. About another 16lbs to go before I reach my 11stone goal.
Keep going and welcome to the forums xx

The fish pie with celeriac is great.

I was doing my usual spring “refresh” of my closet, when I realized that I should belay the binning for at least 8 weeks…
There are a few blouses that I love, but never properly fit into, a skirt I purposely bought too small because I would wear it someday… We all have these right?
I am just thankful that we are nearing dress season so I won’t have to worry about going around “hitching my gitch” in baggy pants.
A girl can dream right?
Cheers,
Deb
PS. Thank you all for sharing your stories, they help more than you can ever know.

Thanks for publishing it this side of the puddle, Michael! Purchased the e-book the day it released, the hard copy today, and will be beginning the BSD Fast 800 tomorrow morning. I am 6β2β³ and 275 lbs. (188 centimeters and 125 kilos). I have the food, got a scale, am ready to get a good nightβs sleep and begin. I am at the high end of prediabetic, have high blood pressure, also have some neurological issues that are probably related to blood sugar, and am just generally tired of feeling poorly. I overeat and consume a lot of sugar primarily for emotional reasons. I need this to work for me.
-
Rob, that veg for the fish pie, celeriac., is about the size of a swede but light brown and knobbly. It tastes a bit like mild celery. I. Like it but couldn’t fancy it on fish pie. Perhaps I should try it so I. Know π
-
Patsy – I think it is very similar. The packet says made from chick peas and split peas (yellow peas I think). Gram flour seems to usually be just the chick peas, but I reckon they are pretty much interchangeable.
Hashimoto. I will put it into the recipes tonight or tomorrow. Sadly I ate it without taking a picture. Oh dear me, I’ll have to make some more, another day, just to take photos of course!

I have no doubt that the science is sound. Love it!

Energy! This is a big NSV for me. Today we emptied our utility room, (for that read dumping ground!) moved a whole load of cupboards, cleaned the walls and ceiling and painted the first coat (OH did ceiling and I did the walls). In the past, I probably would have had enough before we got to the painting, and then we would have got a takeaway, but today I had energy left to make our evening meal, on plan, and also to load up the slow cooker with Sunday’s lamb bone, onions, carrots, green lentils, wild garlic, parsley, rosemary and ground coriander to make a delicious soup ready for tomorrow. Still got some energy left too!

The rewards idea is a good plan. I’m used to thinking of food or drink when it comes to having a treat. Focussing on something different makes a lot of sense.
-
I have also been sorting out clothes today– do I keep the ‘big clothes’ just in case or send them to the charity shop.
-
It will be lovely to wear bright colours after all the dark stuff.
Its amazing that bread could cause so much damage lynne, it’s damaged us both in different ways.
Hopefully the longer you are carb free the better you will get x -
So was yours janet! I’m still losing weight on those calories π
-
Managed to buy ordinary, plain low fat yoghurt (Yeo) we were out today so got two big pots. Unless I’m remembering incorrectly the calorie difference between that and the low fat one is hardly anything.
-
B: plain yoghurt/ strawberries
L: salad with wafer thin ham
D: salad with chicken breast on boneTea/coffee
Apple/pear/ few walnuts -
Missay, please, pretty please put that peshwari bread recipe on the recipes tab π
It sounds delicious x -
Nicely done Judith π
-
Brekkie – an apple and 8 almonds
Lunch – home made leek and lentil soup
Dinner – tuna steak in tomato, spinach and basil sauce. Steamed purple sprouting, carrots and mange tout. (The sauce was nice, but I don’t think it went with the fish and veg. Might be better with cod or chicken)
snacks – I accidentally ate some dried coconut, as you do.
Drinks – water, lots of tea with milk.
I like the sound of your flatbread, Missay. Besan flour is the same thing as gram flour isn’t it?

Dear Lucia,
Life sucks at times doesn’t it, when I separated from my first husband he left me in so much debt with loans he had forged in my name that I nearly lost the house but it’s amazing where you get the strength from to work through things. As for your September life, it doesn’t make sense that what you see in the mirror doesn’t match what you feel in your head and your heart, inside I still feel 20 something and I don’t mean size! We can’t let life pass us by, there is so much living to do and all the more incentive and confidence when we are slimmer, sexier, more sassy with wardrobes to match that aren’t based on black but show off our va va voom. ππ πhere’s to the future!
-
Don’t think you could put up with me Jackie LOL. I eat very strange combinations – but it works for me!

Hi Rob, sorry it’s late but I had seen Janet had sent you a plan for a day;
To answer the oats longing;
Breakfast – Atholl Brose. …Total = 332 calories, 30.19g carbs.Toast 1 oz rolled oats , toast on foil under the grill or in a dry frying pan then cool. (oats = 110 calories, 18.79g carbs)
Pour a pot of Fage Greek Yoghurt (not the 0%) into a bowl (190 cals, 8g carbs)
Stir in the cooled oats and 2 oz raspberries (32 calories, 3.4 g carbs.Lunch: (packed lunch?) total = 408 calories, 1.77 carbs
If you need a snack Aldi do little packs of nuts ( by the tills) 153 calories, 2.71 carbs.
That would take your total carbs for the day to 41.09
The days calories would then be 1174 calories. If you have tea or coffee remember to add the carbs, cals for that too.
2 boiled eggs, (140 cals, 0.98g carbs)
Ioz cheddar cheese (113 cals ,0.4 g carbs.
2 slices deli ham (153 calories, 0 carbs)
1quarter of a lettuce (2 calories, 0.39g carbs)Dinner: total = 281 calories, 6.42 carbs
6oz piece of cod (140 calories, 0g carbs) ( wrap in foil, flavour to taste – e.g )soy sauce, lemon juice, ginger, chilli
4oz cauliflower (28 calories, 6.02 g)
1 oz grated cheese (113 cals, 0.4g carbs)
Sprinkle cheese over the cauliTotal of meals = 1021 calories, 38.38 carbs
Drink 2 to 3 litres of water, herbal teas.
You can see just 1 oz oats gives a big carb hit, but the recipe is delicious. You can make double or triple the quantity and store the extra in the fridge. It would also make a good packed lunch. π
If you need a snack Aldi do little packs of nuts ( by the tills) 153 calories, 2.71 carbs.
That would take your total carbs for the day to 41.09
The days calories would then be 1174 calories.I’ll post some more tomorrow!
Would you like me to make a leek (without potato ) soup, if it tastes OK I will post the recipe to you π

Hi Lucia. My work clothes are navy and white. Out of work it’s navy/black trousers and a few coloured tops. Now the tops sure brighter – and some are actually patterned π±π
Pin ups? Too old for thatπ³ If I had to choose now it would be Mark Harmon and/or David mcCallum, the younger Sean Connery or the younger Omar Shareef. (Once I’was having a painful medical procedure done and an Egyptian doctor was observing. He looked just like Omar Shareef – and he held my hand. Made it a little less painful π)

Like the rewards scheme, very well thought out! I treated myself to a pretty little orchid when I got to 10lb lost, as they are my weakness – other than whisky and dark chocolate of course.
Have look at the Non Scales Victories thread and post yours as you achieve your goals.
Loom forward to hearing all about your progress. -
Thanks Penny, I don’t think I have ever been called an inspiration before! I sometimes wonder if maybe I’m putting too much info on about what has gone into my meals, but then it seems a shame not to mention things like the spices I use, as they add so much to the taste!
So, without further ado – today’s food…
Breakfast: Greek yogurt with a cooked golden plum and cinnamon
Lunch: nothing, as we were emptying and decorating our utility room, not hungry anyway.
Dinner: Lamb and spinach curry, with a ‘Peshwari besan flatbread’. I made the batter as usual with besan flour and coconut flour, salt and water (5 tbspns besan and one of coconut, to serve two of us), put coconut oil and a nib of butter into the pan and then poured in the batter. Once it was beginning to set I sprinkled over 15g of unsweetened dessicated coconut and 10g of raisins, then folded it in half, like an omelette. Then I put the pan under the grill to finish the top. Yum yum, yummy yum!
Snack: a tbspn of hummus. OH had his with doritos (I weighed him out an ounce), but I managed to resist them.
Drinks: Water, fizzy and still, one Earl Grey tea with splash of milk, one coffee with cream, a butter mint tea.
Cals: 812. Carbs: 53

Hi Rob, my two words health and happy.
It will get better, especially when you start seeing results! -
Judith. Apologies, just remembered I’d not answered your question about fibromyalgia.
I’d thought even before the BSD that bread especially caused me problems, especially joint pain. But it would build up and cause other problems. Unfortunately I’d got into the ‘anything between 2 slices of bread’ habit so I was in a lot of pain. Quite often I used a walking stick to help me up the stairs to bed, and sometimes still other times as well.
Very quickly after starting the BSD all that changed. I’m in a lot less pain and I can’t remember the last time I used the stick. I’d started to use it at airports, because the walking around large airports caused me a lot of pain. And my holidays lady year the stick was with me all the time – all that walking. When I went to Prague recently the stick stayed at home.
The ‘tired all the time’ has lessened and I do have more energy, think more clearly and concentrate better. I also get less irritated – things that would have really got to me can now normally be ignored.
So quite a lot of changes for the better – all for cutting out carbs π
Hope this answers your question/helps.

Hi stringbreaker – well done – great results! No it did not feel that long, it kept me busy planning, organising etc but rarely fretting about being hungry that it felt like normal days. Bought lots of new (second hand) cook books tho’ and having great fun looking through for ideas π

Lol, wow, just goes to show there’s no truth in weight loss slowing down, doesn’t it. No wonder you’re chuffed!

Hi Hashimoto,

On Sunday hoping to jump the bus into town and walk the legs off myself.
Would love to visit London again and see the museum and art galleries. Might try and arrange it say, Autumn time when its a bit cheaper.I am going to wash all the windows next Saturday. Let more sunshine in.

on 29 Mar 2016 at 20:00 in Welcome to the BSDI love the rewards part – good thinking! I promise it gets easier…. especially once you start cooking real food again. At least you have a couple of weeks to plan and if you can, cook up things like soup into individual portions and freeze. It really does help to have a backlog of good food in the freezer. I label everything with what it is and also the calories in it – how sad is that! I am also considering a spreadsheet of what I have cooked that is in the freezer so I can see what is available and help with the planning. Might be a step to far in organising!

Skyr is low fat, so probably best avoided in favour of full fat options, which will make you feel fuller for longer and encourage fat burning too. I use the Lidl’s Turkish Style Yogurt, which is a yogurt/cream combination and 10% fat. It is quite smooth and creamy and can be matched with sweet or savoury. I have it most breakfasts with berries and a ground seed topping and as it’s so satisfying I have also had 30g with a quarter spoon of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon as a little afternoon treat if I’m feeling peckish.

Hi cat girl,
Lost everything a while ago,
I now have a mortgage, that has several years to go, no savings, no pension. Plus I am in my September life. So I need to work. Think I will still be working at 80 ! π±π±π±π±π±π±π±π±π±π±π±
I may put a pound on this weeks lottery, win millions and take you all on a months holiday.
But until that happens I just try and enjoy my weekends.
Anyway, enough of the down.
Your meal sounds wonderful, big will try and do my version of it on the weekend, when I can visit my fruit and veg shop of local produce.
Mmmmmmmmmmm
Love Lucia

4. Feel and Look Amazing for Upcoming Weddings.REWARDS
Lose 5 lbs = New Lunch Containers

Cheers,
Deb

Judith, smart phone optional – but more discreet than regular cameras on these missions π

You’ll be at six weeks before you know it. It really does seem to pass so quickly and to be honest, I hardly notice I’m on a diet now and you will be like that too, if you aren’t already. It’s amazing how the body adjusts to this new regime and how much better you feel for it.
Keep us posted on your progress.
