Thanks! That does sound nice. Which yogurt are you using? Low fat or full fat?
-
Admittedly I found the first 2 days a struggle, what with me being greedy!! After that, with determination, it got better and once you start getting good results either weight wise or blood sugar wise it just makes you want to keep on keeping on!! Good luck.

For apple, walnut and celery salad, I mix half a teaspoon of salad cream (low cal because I already had that) a dessertspoon of natural yoghurt and half a teaspoon of whole grain mustard. That’s enough for 1 apple and 2-3 sticks of celery.
For coleslaw, I mix mayonnaise and yoghurt.
Stirring the dressing into a salad, rather than pouring it over the top or spooning it on the side means you don’t need so much.

Lovely, thanks for your help, will have a look, don’t feel as daunted now lol!

Well done, Bob.

Hi again, I think there’s a thread called “what I’ve eaten today” which gives some ideas but my menu for today as an example is:
B – Fage Greek yog 200g, 3 tbsp strawberries
L: small tin baked beans 150g and a poached egg
D: lettuce/5 sl cucumber/one tomato, 6oz fillet steakSnack: Apple
Teas to drink at 7 cals each due to milk. -
Great to hear it’s working and you’re feeling so positive.

Finished my first week. I think I got this! Totally makes sense to me. I have lost 8 pounds in my first week, more than I ever lost in one week EVER. Only 67.5 more to go! I spent two months in the hospital just over 2 years ago. I went in with gall stones…. ended up in Intensive Care for two months. I had pancreatitis, which then digested my spleen, spleen removed, cardiac arrest, lung problems (ARDS), drains everywhere, totally incubated, then eventually a trachiotomy and life started to get better. 2 months and I was left unable to walk, brush my hair (which by the way fell out after 2 months at home). So things were tough. I did not eat anything for at least 10 weeks and due to drip feed ended up 2 stone heavier! Constant weight gain ever since, bloated and sore stomach and unreliable body functions. So I was at the point of trying anything and found this diet through a friend. One week in and already I feel like a new person, so much better. Of course the first few days I was hungry, but I just tried to keep busy – it worked. I am rather lazy with food though as I tend to eat the same thing every day, so really trying to be more adventurous and keep searching for recipes, loving the fact that I can eat avocado (small portion tho) and nuts. I have just joined this site and forum so looking forward to hearing your stories and success. Oh and by the way my hair is back to its former glory!

Hi Sim, it’ll be great for us new folk to keep in touch – hopefully with a lot of successes. The advice and support has been fantastic. Some really encouraging replies from Hashimoto and Janet, it seems this way of eating really does help many conditions. I hope it has the same effect for you π I’ll look forward to hearing how you get on.
Hashimoto – yay I have lemons! Sliced and frozen π No limes but hopefully on Wednesday…. π
Cherrieanne, Isn’t it incredible eh? The world is certainly getting smaller! Could well have met Hawks on one of my walks!
Well I’m up to nearly 7000 steps so far today but the day is fairly young…. I have my evening walk to come. Very blustery and cold though so will have to wrap up well. Hope everyone is having a good Monday π

I carried on after the 8 weeks and have just finished week 13. I occasionally upped my cals to about 1000 over the last 5 weeks but generally kept to the 800cals. Once you get in the low carb hi fat groove it’s seems like second nature, as if we should have been doing this all the time. My bloods are constantly in the 4-5 range but my weight has just dropped off. My starting weight was 269lbs and now it is 215lbs. A weight loss of 54lbs.(Nearly 4 stone=24.5kg) Still a lot to lose, so won’t be stopping anytime soon. I don’t think I could go back to the old way of eating to be honest. Good luck to everyone else and congrats on your results. Onward and Downwards.
-
Can I add any salad to meals? I presumably have to count the calories and stay within 800 cals a day? If I snacks on seeds I also presume these have to be counted in my 800 calories. Can’t eat many then as they are quite high.
-
thanks so much for replying, do you have a couple of days example menus you wouldnt mind posting? to give me a rough idea of what people are eating, so are like, meat, fish, eggs, veg, pulses, beans, salads all ok? and what about dressings and stuff?
i’ve been doing slimming world forever so it will take some getting used to,
wow!!!! what an amazing result!!! well done chick!!! fantastic!

Katieb – amazing π

Please help me a tasty salad dressing. I love salad and will eat one a day, but finding a low calorie nice dressing has proved to be harder than I thought. Any ideas please.

Bill that 1.5 lbs is good – you’re almost at 2 and a half stones π

Hello, im on my 8th week. I too am not a fancy food fan, esp with a family to cater for. I haven’t used any of the book recipes as they’re not to my taste. I’ve used normal everyday foods. However I have counted cals obsessively and cut out all the rubbish such as bread, potatoes, sweets, biscuits, cake, etc, etc. Also tried to keep carbs low and use full fat everything! I use a book called “the hugely better calorie counter” to refer to. I must have done something right as my blood sugars have halved and I’ve lost 21 pounds so far. Good luck with it all.
-
Hi christine that sounds delicious! π
-
hi everyone, i’m looking to start this diet, i have bought the book today, had a quick scan through, is there a list of allowed foods anywhere on here?
i feel a bit overwhelmed even though i’ve spent all of my lunch break stalking the forum,
i just don’t feel like i know what to eat?
i know its 800 cals but what normal foods should i be eating? i don’t have time to do all the fancy meals lol!
sorry if this is a silly question.
thanks

Well done NewLife and Janet π

Hi Judith,
I am going to try the spirilizer tonight and have cod with a pea sauce, and courgette spirals, it’s an experiment!
Wish me luck, I’m not too good and coming up with ideas for anything, however I can copy anything, don’t know what that says about me?
Christine -
Hi patsy, I tend to fry some garlic and chilli and when it’s soft add the courgetti and fry til soft, a couple of minutes, then add whatever π
-
Hi Lynne I hope you have a good week and that the food is not too horrendous! π
Bon voyage πJust looked out the window. . . .it’s SNOWING!!!
-
Thanks for answering that bill, ive juzt got. In and slowly working through emails.
Ive got friends coming for dinner (bsd style lol) so need to get some prep done! π -
Thanks Cherrianne. I’m hoping I’ll feel better soon. I’m ravenous at the moment! At least at work I’m distracted! Although I don’t think I’m drinking enough water. It’s difficult as I end up dashing out of my teaching room along the corridor every 5 minutes when I keep drinking water, which is not brilliant!
How often do you all weigh yourselves? I hopped on the scales again this mornig but after 2 days didn’t expect to lose anything so wasn’t surprised to see the scale remain the same. Maybe I should do it once a week? What do you all do?
Have a good day!

Hi Janet when I was at my appointment this morning my friend (the pressure point therapist) told me she has had no uncomfortable bloating since starting this diet 6 weeks ago. She is trying to persuade her diabetic clients to try it.
She thought it was certain veg causing problems until she cut the carbs out. It’s amazing how many problems are supposed to be caused by things like fat, spice, alcohol etc. But lots of problems disappear when simple carbs are eliminated from the diet π

posted by ColleenDeas on Are there any ladies with PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) trying BSD?
on 25 Apr 2016 at 13:41 in BSD Med Style Low CarbHello,
I was ignored by my mother as a teenager when I expressed my concern regarding lack of regular menustration.
In my twenties I was told going on birth control would regulate the situation. In my thirties I was finally
diagnosed with PCOC, yet no one appeared to understand the condition or provide any lifestyle and nutrition
advice. I am very on metformin, bp and chloresterol meds. I found out about this diet by accident.I am on week two. I unable to follow the plan to the book due to some living situation problems. I am delighted
to see the number of individuals contributing to this group. My focus is to firstly love myself for the first time in my life. Also to forgive myself if I slip up. Drinking as much
plain water as I can, reducing coffee and increasing tea. I made a lovely garlic onion, mushroom and red pepper
with one poached egg meal for breakfast yesterday and I felt so very satisfied. Really watching the portions.
I am delighted to report I have lost two pounds… which is unknown to me in the past to loose weight so fast.I am determined to keep trying and wish everyone the gift of self-love and faith. We are different and this makes
it more the challenge.Good luck to you all.

FF yoghurt is a revelation isn’t it?
Makes me cross that i ate that slimy (good description, Natalie) crap for DECADES when I could have had the yummy healthy real thing!! π -
Hi all
A friend at work recommended the BSD to me recently and I’ve decided to try it. I have no issues with blood sugar but the PhD student life (stress, snacks, no exercise) means I have some weight to lose – mostly around my abdomen.I managed to lose about 4 kilos in 4 weeks last year with a 1200 calorie diet and am hoping that I will see similar results this time.
I am terrible at sticking to diets but am reasonably motivated and posting here for accountability.
My current stats are 5’5 and 69.4 kilos. Ideally, I would like to drop about 9 kilos.
Fingers crossed!

Yes Bill, it means something completely different here too!!
Hopefully things will settle in time. Am planning on going beyond 8 weeks so at some point my glucose stash will have to diminish logically thinking.
Looking forward to June when my yearly HBA1C and other bloods will be done. A bit of a crisis though at my GP surgery as no nurses through sickness and staff leaving until they recruit some so no diabetic reviews until at least June!! -
Hi TenorTubby
yes lots of folk have had that kind of weight loss, and more, in the first few days. It really depends on your lifestyle and how much weight you have to lose as well as your starting weight.
You have got off to a great start though, remember to keep us all informed of how you progress and good luck π -
Excellent, Janet!
-
Hi Embob
If a food label says carbohydrates 20 grams and then of which dietary fibre 6 grams, then the total carb count would be 14 grams.
The same holds true if the labels list carbs and fibre separately. That’s in the UK anyway. -
LMAO
Morning glory has a different meaning where I come from π
Seriously Leeanne, if your readings are good for the rest of the day, I wouldn’t worry too much about the FBS reading, it may come down in time but it’s really a personal thing as to how your body reacts to stored sugar being released by your liver and how well your pancreas is performing in producing insulin to control it.
Of course you have to get to the point where there isn’t a lot of stored glucose left. -
I have to agree with cherrianne Dee
You will start noticing changes (not just weight loss) in the first week. You may experience the odd plateau, lots of us do, but just stick to the plan and the weight loss will start again, you need to give your body the time to adjust to burning fat instead of carbs and your body will fight back at first until it realises that you are the boss now.
Some time during the next 8 weeks you’re going to see someone eating the things you used to love and you will suddenly notice that it doesn’t bother you any more, you will feel fitter and sleep better as well.
Just stick to the plan and don’t forget to shout out if you need any answers or you are having a food crisis. We will offer as much support as we can, even if it’s just to give a shoulder to cry on, but what we really want to do is help you celebrate your new found health.Best of luck for your 8 weeks and beyond.

Hi Hashimoto, Our Shrine of Remembrance is very beautiful and stands high up on lovely green lawns amongst magnificent trees that have been there since the 1st World war. It might be on google if you want to see it,

Hi Bill, the majority of my daily readings are in the pre-diabetic or non-diabetic range which is pleasing. Like you say, I must be one of the ones who get high morning figures. My hubby who’s not diabetic sometimes has a 7.4 in the morning if I can get him to test. The funny part is that he gets mixed up with dawn phenomenon and embarrassingly refers to it as morning glory!

Same for me. I was told I have underactive thyroid about three years ago, and have always struggled to lose weight but I’m now 19 pounds down in 11weeks. I believe it is cutting the carbs that has made the biggest difference for me.

We sure do, Lucia !
A huge football game ! What else ? we are Aussies !!

Wow Jilly, that’s quite an event! I’m very impressed by dawn services! π
-
Hi Hashimoto,
I live in Victoria but I think most of Australia does the dawn service, even a lot of suburban places and country towns have a small ceremony around their cenotaphs that honour the young men who lived in that town and didn’t return.
I forgot to mention, after the service and having a drink with their old comrades, we also have the annual football match which is huge. This is part of tradition with the same two teams playing against each other. This is all part of our big league and they somehow arrange these two teams to meet each Anzac day. It was a cracker of a game today. As you probably know, Australians are football crazy, even I have my team to barrack for ! My two sons are mad for it, too ! Nice to hear from you.jillyB

Hi Sim, welcome to the forums!
I have hypothyroidism and could not lose weight no matter how hard I tried. If you look at my profile you will see I hoped to lose 2 stones on this diet. I didn’t believe it was possible. Some time ago I had lost 2 stones, 13 lbs and I am staying stable while I have increased my calories.I’m sure this will work for you too as it is very hard to lose weight when you have hypothyroidism.
Good luck π

Hi hashimto,
I notice you ask what state jillyb lives in.In case I ask, I live in a state of blissful insanity, looking for the humour in all things as life is too short to growl at.

Hi Hashimoto
Could you not utilise the space in the rear compartment to store your snorkel, mask, flippers, beach ball etc?
Thought it would be helpful.

on 25 Apr 2016 at 12:04 in Welcome to the BSDI love when everyone tries full fat yoghurt with real fruit instead of slimy over-sweetened “healthy” yoghurt-like-substance! I remember what that was like. Hey, this stuff isn’t disgusting after all! It’s like dessert for breakfast.

Hi , I have been doing the Bsd for two weeks now and still trying to fine tune so that my weight loss is better. For those of you who experience rising blood sugar levels when every thing else is basically the same, I wanted to throw out the possibility that your cortisol levels have increased which I understand can make your blood sugar go up. This issue is discussed a bit in M Mosley”s book but not much. My understanding from past experience and some reading is that if you put certain stresses on your body like working out really hard it will increase your cortisol. Anyway may be something to look into. An increase in cortisol can also affect your weight loss according to some of the literature that I read. I would be interested in knowing if anyone has dealt with this issue and how they handled it. Td
