    Hi MREY

The paleo style cafe that I like a lot is Thr1ve. http://thr1ve.me/a/stores

They have excellent choices and are very BSD friendly.

Theres a few branches in Sydney. They had a branch near my job but they just recently moved and I was raging!

Hope you have a great time here. I love the cafes here in Sydney, I just have steer clear of the luscious banana bread but the coffee here is fantastic, my other tip would be go for a piccolo latte so you can get the shot without all the carby milk.

Those are fantastic results, well done. I’m just starting today so a bit apprehensive about the 7 weeks ahead (can only do 7 weeks as I’m going on holidays and definitely wouldn’t be able to stick to 800 calories a day). I’ve done a water fast before and would love to do it again.

Looks like we all had curry and cauli for tea last night! Yes the Fage is very rich, although I do like it, at £2 a tub… yikes. The Aldi one is just as nice really, hubby prefers it, and I prefer the price tag 😉 I think that if/when we make future desserts we need to find something that can be frozen and just take it out as and when. I haven’t been too bothered over the last two and a half weeks, I’ve been really happy with my greek and fruit and nuts tbh, but I do know that there will come a time in the not so distant future that I will be entertaining and I’d rather not blow it completely. The main meal will always be ok, I can substitute carbs for… bloody cauliflower or whatever, and bread for my wraps. But dessert needs to be something that I can eat, and it needs to be wow, and in some of my friends’ cases, it needs to be noticably ‘normal’ tasting. Not boring normal. Just… like shedloads of sugar has gone into it. But with regard to getting into the habit of snacking normally on this stuff on a daily basis, can any of us really afford to???? Hehe 😉

If it’s any consolation Tokyo, the weather is bobbins, I even put the heating on for an hour this morning. It’s cold, grey, very windy and rainy here, that’s no carb flu. That’s a UK summer haha. My poor son is off for a two day outdoor pursuits course today down in West Wales, I hope the weather is better down there than it is here. I’ve been procrastinating too for days now. The first few days I was being kind to myself, but from yesterday I’ve been setting a timer for fifteen minutes and trying to do as much of a job as possible before moving on to something else and another fifteen minutes. Stops me feeling overwhelmed and bored. I hate housework in my house. My children are so untidy and bone idle. And it’s my own fault for doing it all for years, I don’t think my eldest has ever offered to wash up or anything and he’s nearly 21. My parents didn’t raise me like this, so why on earth I’ve let my children get away with doing nothing is beyond me, but it seems a lot of my peers are in the same boat. Things must change, because I cannot physically keep up with it. Hubby hasn’t been well for years now, so he can only do so much, and very minimum lifting. I’m hoping losing the excess weight will help my back too. Sorry, off-topic rant over lol. As you were 😉

28 days & I have lost 10 kilos. I feel great & as I am also on treatment for Hep C ( Solvadi) my liver function tests ALT is down to 25 from 390. So no more liver inflamation not even from fatty liver or hemachromatosis yep I had all the liver diseaese’s . I bought some new runners Hoka 1’s these are more padded than most brands so i dont get shin splints. I have walked /run 8 ks per day last 2 days burning 1000 calories per day & losing 1 kg each day.
The diet has been fairly easy to stick to but with the Rugby & a Birthday in the last week i did blow it a couple of days. I hovered at 115 kg for 5 days in a holding pattern before exercise helped me break through the plateau.
Im staying with it for as long as it takes to get down to 85 kg that another 25 Kg to lose . I may try a full water fast in a week or 2 . Im being monitored each week & my liver & pain clinic ( whiplash) doctors are amazed my bloods are great Blood pressure is now 110 over 65 . This is a life changer for me i can see a long future ahead with plenty of time to enjoy my retirement & my Grandkids. I may run out of money but hey whi cares wouldnt be deae for quids.

Hi bsd peeps, I am starting today, have just weighed myself, and I have lost 5lb, this I can only assume is because the last two weeks particularly, five weeks since I found out about bsd, I have been beginning as I am aware now how toxic carbs and sugar are for my sad old liver etc, that I have been toning it down. Last night for the ‘last supper’ I made one of our family favourites, toad in the hole. I cannot tell you how ill I felt, for just over two hours I felt exhausted, headachy, felt really poisoned. It may have been all in my mind. I don’t know but it wasn’t good. Don’t like it any more hehe how wonderful, of to get my tape measure now, it’s all so exciting. Love it.

But I need to carry on.

Morning people, it’s busy, busy on this thread today. And welcome Greenjanet! A newbie in our midst. As Lucky wrote, we’re all at different stages and approaching this way of eating in different ways BUT we all agree we are feeling better for it. If you trawl back through this somewhat surreal thread you’ll find out how we all vary in approach, as well as having a good laugh at some of the disastrous and hilarious antics we’ve tried.

So, Tokyo.. agave syrup. I saw that warning posted about it not being particularly good for us on the BSD so it’s not yet on my ‘odd ingredients’ shelf. I’m now confused about honey too. Apparently there’s not just ‘honey’ in the world. For ultimate health we have to buy honey that has not been pasturised or had the bits of pollen and bee pooh taken out of it. This sounds like a health food shop/Waitrose profiteering ploy and I’m not falling for it this time! Bog standard honey can go in my recipes and like it. As far as sweeteners go, I don’t take sugar in drinks but historically used Sucralose based sweeteners on pancakes etc (kids don’t notice!). However, on flippin’ ‘Elana’s advice I sold a kidney and invested in some Stevia based version. This is plant extract and lessens the blood sugar rise apparently. All I can say is it is expensive and the family complained it had a sour aftertaste on last weekend’s batch of crepes. I will persevere for now..

Cauliflower rice with curry last night.. went down ok for once. Also, I used coconut oil in cooking lentil dahl and got a resounding thumbs up from the kids for once (I agree Lucky, that I need to swap my rugrats with Elana’s brainwashed paleo clan for a few weeks). As I was feeling flush I invested in some Fage yoghurt and had that for brekkie this morning. Blimey.. it’s a bit rich, isn’t it? I struggled to finish it, and tbh feel a bit sick even now!!

Oh, and when I got home last night I had a couple of my ‘healthy’ brownies, ostensibly to use them up. But that’s not good is it? That’s like having a biscuit as soon as you get in 🙁 I’d better not get into the habit. In fact I won’t, because no-one at home likes them apart from me, and they cost £8k a batch! But you know what I mean..

Well into week 3 now, and doing great, im down to 101kg, and my waist has gotten smaller for def.

A couple of things, As i said, buying food to follow the plan is simply too expensive, so i have been adapting the plan, basically I pick a recipe that has multiple servings and make it, and then eat it over the course of a couple of days. i make sure that i stay below 800.

I have also, as stated above made a massive veg soup, and am using that for lunch this week (next week is the amazing chickpea and chorizo soup), so whilst i dont know how many calories that contains, im pretty sure its less than 200 per serving (if the chorizo soup is 210 for about half a litre of soup, then this one surely must be less). but even so, its not going to be grossly over, which means that im still way below.

Once this week is done, I will have another look at the menu plan, and pick a few simple dishes to last the week, and hey presto, diet done easy!!!

Im actually enjoying it, and i have already planned a few dishes that i have enjoyed for once i finish the 8 weeks.

    thanks

    JK

I am still in here plodding on. I don’t have huge great weight a loss to write about but I am on the way down. Today my BMI is 25.95. I am serving my OH the same food and now he is also starting to show a weight loss. Problem is he won’t go without alcohol. Today I read out loud from the BSD that beer is “rich in carbs, which is why it’s known as ‘liquid toast’.” Hopefully that statement gives him food for thought. He drinks red wine as well and will often have a brandy or two of an evening. Maybe the weight loss might get him thinking about what he is doing.

Presumably you’re not just stopping at the end of week 8? OK, the rigid calories counting can ease off, but new, improved eating habits will stay, won’t they? I intend to carry on eating in this way longterm because I want to stay healthy for as long as possible. And if the clothes continue to get looser.. well, so be it 🙂

Good morning Greenjanet, nice to meet you 🙂

We’re all at different stages of the diet, that’s what’s brilliant, so what one of us is going through, someone else has been through and someone else will go through soon. Hubby and I have lost 34lbs between us in 19 days (he hit his stone today, so he’s pleased too), it works. It does need a bit of thought, but if you’ve had five weeks to plan then you should be able to ace this! I jumped straight in hours after reading the book lol, which was… interesting and I’m still playing catch up and ‘what the hell am I eating today’. Check in whenever you want a chat or a ramble or a rant or a giggle (when I’m being naughty) 🙂

I’ve just listened to Jeremy Vine talking to Dr Mosley on I-player from Monday 27th June on Radio 2. It was aimed at pre-diabetes. (I’ve been type 2 for 5 years).
I’ve managed to get myself into the pre-diabetic blood range after several weeks BSD. However I’m still a stone over my maximum ideal weight, BMI of 27, but have halved the Metformin.
My query is this: If I carry on losing, will I be able to get in the “normal” bloods range – I.e. an enviable 5 range? Is it the time factor of 8 weeks quick weight loss or is it the amount lost that counts? I consider myself unlucky as my dad (who’s never been overweight has type 2) and my mum was borderline but lost 3st and avoided medication although still has the annual diabetic checks, so maybe genetics played a part for me.

    Hi everyone

Thanks for the birthday wishes I’m 58 today. Sounds so old but I shall have to live with that!

Very pleased to have had a great celebration lunch out with girlfriends and resisted dessert. Funny though I didn’t miss it I am turning into a very strange person who doesn’t want to eat sugar no more. Mind you there is still a bit of me that thinks one spoonful and I’d disappear down the sugar rabbit hole and be back where I started. But I also think that this is the first diet that has really made me think about why and what I eat. I know I have to plan a little before I go out for meals and then I’m ok.

Of course maybe it was the hysterical tale told about a local respectable lady who got divorced and started dating younger men who seemed to have a penchant for washroom sex that went awry when the sink came away from the wall flooding the newly refurbished bar and the owners threatening to sue!

I live in a very middle class area but obviously I am an innocent about what goes on under the surface!

    Have a great day all

I love how we’re seeking out the sun in our lunch breaks – it’s warmer where you are though.
We had a fabulous frost here this morning – back yard, front yard and on the roof. I think I beat it though – the sugar snap peas were under cover!

Good grief, well done! Even I couldn’t have done that, I went down gradually from two to one and a half to one, then my student housemates got me into a little honey in my coffee, and I’ve been sugar-less in coffee since 1993 🙂 If someone uses a spoon to stir a sugared coffee before mine, I can even taste it then. I think re the sweeteners it’s going to be trial and error, but the problem is, they’re going to be very expensive errors aren’t they? There’s a nice looking brownie recipe on that site Josie shared, they look good anyway, only thing is is the oats, I don’t know what you could sub there? http://wholeheartedlyhealthy.com/2015/05/recipe-healthy-low-calorie-angel-brownies.html

As a rule – no. I don’t (didn’t) take sugar in tea/coffee or on cereal/porridge nor did I ever add it to a lot of recipes that called for it. I only used sugar in desserts, really. So my sweetener experience is going to be similar, I guess. I bought a tub of Candarel to sweeten some apple I cooked to go with roast pork, but that’s the height of my knowledge of sweeteners.

Morning Tokyo and thank you 🙂 I’m chuffed to bits. The wraps are great, I need to make some more. The brand of flour I got from Morrisons wasn’t quite the same and they didn’t make quite so well as the one I had from Tesco. So I haven’t made any more since. They did taste nicer though (when I finally managed to make one I didn’t have to throw because it ripped in the pan!) and the texture was nicer, so it’s a shame. I’m going to have one more try with the flour because we need the wraps with a lot of recipes. If it doesn’t work then I’ll get a smaller bag of the stuff that I know works and keep the Morrisons one for bhajis. Even though they do freeze, I wasn’t as impressed with them after being frozen, they really are nicer made fresh. I calorie counted them between 70 and 90 calories each (each batch varied depending on how many I got out of the mix), can’t help with the carb count though because I’m not doing that, not yet anyway.
A new dress 🙂 Try it on once a week when you weigh 🙂 Over the years, I don’t think I’ve ever fit into anything that I’ve bought that’s too small for me, it’s good to know I’ve finally found something that works that means I can. Or could, but thankfully I have a wardrobe full of smaller clothes in sizes 22 down to 16/18. My sister in law is a bit of a shopaholic and she gave me loads of brand new clothes, some still with tags on. That’s who I had my butterfly dress from, tags and all. There is another thing I want to fit into, hubby and I bought a rugby shirt (last season’s) in the sale at Christmas, and even though it was an XXL, it was one of those with no give in at all, so I couldn’t pull it down over my chest. I was mortified. On Sunday before the match, I managed to get it on, but hubby pointed out that it was emphasising a muffin top. And by muffin I mean a box of muffins. He reckons another half a stone and I should be good. Another half a stone and I’ll have ‘new’ jeans to wear with it as I cheer them on lol.

Nobody has noticed my weight loss yet, I think I said at the start of the thread that I lost a stone between March and April which took me down to 16 stone 9. And I put it back on in May and the early part of June. The March/April weight loss was noticed but I think this one is going to take a bit more because people are/were used to me being a little smaller. Plus the weight loss/gain/loss happened in such a short space of time. I can go for weeks without seeing some friends, so my weight gain may have passed them by and they’ll just see me the same as they did last time. If that makes sense. But once I get my teeth into the 15 stone, that’s when we’re talking, and they’d better notice, I tell thee 😉 My best friend lives in Norwich and she’s getting married in September. I’m to do a reading in church for her as I wasn’t close enough (distance wise) to be a part of the wedding party, for rehearsals and dress fittings etc, but she still wanted me involved somehow. I want to give her a shock when I turn up in a (at the very, very least) size 18 dress. Because the last time she saw me in May, I was in a 24.

So let’s talk about the science of it all.
Don’t panic it’s my version do it will be simple.

    In the beginning…..
I tried to eat 800 cals.
200 cals cornflakes and semi skimmed milk
    Lunch 2 bananas 200 cals
Dinner slice of bread and butter 200 cals and something in it.
    You getting the picture?
Hey I hit 800 😀 Hey I am eating healthy.

But after learning a little more I felt 🙊
    Why?
Because we need to reduce carbs
So where are these sneaky little buggers?
Cornflakes, banana. Bread. Just in my meals above.
They are also in rice and pasta.

    Oh pooh!

So this is why I have
Yoghurt and berries for breakfast or lunch
    Salad for lunch or dinner
Veggies grown above the ground for lunch or dinner.

    So what’s wrong with veggies?
The one grown in the soil or dirt are high in carbs
    Eh?
    Carrots, spuds, etc
What are the good ones? Broccoli, cauli, cabbage, cauli , beans etc. Grown above ground.

    Oh.

Please refer to Michaels book for the scientific reason or on the Internet.

But eating less carbs is making me feels less sluggish.

    Love Lucia
    Xxxxx

    No wet sheets woohoo!

thanks you guys I’m so looking forwards to getting started on the loft!

I do cross stitch sometimes too but it takes so long that it puts me off lol.

I’ve had a strawberry almond milk shake this morning – shakes seem to be evolving into my breakfast of choice this week lol.

I’m having cheese salad and crackers for lunch

for dinner I’m going to see how the frozen chicken curry pasties turn out 🙂

It is overcast and rainy here today so not sure if I will be gardening tonight or not! We will see later. The weather here can change a lot throughout a day.

I was thinking as those skirts are fitting I might have a rummage through my clothes pile again tonight and see if anything else fits yet, it’s been a while since I’ve done it now I think at least 1/2 stone ago.

I also bought a hair dye yesterday. I was booked in for a haircut and colour but I had to cancel as I had booked the wrong date, so now I’m going on Friday afternoon but they could only fit me in for a cut. I have very dark hair with a bleached bit each side at the front that I used to dye pink or blue but I haven’t kept up with it recently so it’s just blonde and dull lol. Anyway as they can’t fit me in for the colour I thought I’ll just buy a home dye and save the money – put it towards getting my loft flooring! I have a lot of grey hairs these days as well as my daughter likes to show me lol.

This is the colour I bought
    http://www.beautyspin.co.uk/loreal-paris/casting-creme-gloss-hair-color/?item=97786

The plum will be very subtle in my hair and it will even out my grey and take out the blonde so I might do it tonight. Then before Friday I need to decide how to cut it. I used to have long hair but I got it cut into a short inverted bob a few years ago which I loved and have enjoyed. It’s overgrown just now and just downright messy. I’ve been pondering letting it grow again. So I might get her to even up the length and tidy the layers to grow it out, or I might get it cut back in short – decisions decisions lol. I was thinking if I keep the length I might do a hair wrap for a while, not sure if that is the right word for it… My mother in law showed me how to do it a few years back and I’ve not had one since my hair was shorter… this kind of thing…

    http://www.thecollegetourist.com/the-cheats-guide-to-hairbraiding/

It just adds a little excitement. I rarely wear make up and I’m a low maintainance kind of chick so this sort of thing is funky and you can leave it in for weeks until it starts to grow out.

Actually I think I’ve decided. let it grow.

Right gotta go and get the boy ready and go to childminders byeeeeeeeeee

    Broccoli and bacon
Or sprinkle a few herbs on the top
    Or sprinkle spices on top

If you are not used to herbs or spices, just put a tiny bit on, like me, you could be surprised

I got fed it with lettuce and toms = salad, so I researched and see my list on previous blogs.
Yup, I like to swop it around now.

I walk for my full lunch hour, trying to get the sun, getting excited if I see puddles.☂☂☂☂☂

    Work Sucks….. 8am to 8 pm yesterday. I need another holiday……🙁

As a basic rule, you must count everything you eat or drink to make up the 800cals. It does certainly get easier and soon you’ll know calories/carbs and weight without even referring to any guides.

if i was you i wouldnt tell anyone and just do a big reveal like them american diet shows wearing a fab outfit!!
i bought a dress in the sale and although it fits its a little tight so thats another goal to get it a little less tight !!!
and as for gweneth paltrow shes on my list too am afraid of smug celebrity chefs!!!! calling your child apple is enough to do it for me !!!
havent tried the choc bars yet as we had strawberries and a dash of cream last night i do feel like i am eating too much sometimes but when i add it up its within the 800!! so think its just me readjusting to this way of eating !!!

Tokyo – the little mousse bars? They’re divine aren’t they? I had one the other night with the football and I found – shock horror – that it was enough for me. I used to be a ‘slab’ girl, so that was a bit of a novelty. I love cauliflower in a curry, I also love cauliflower with a curry, which is what I had last night, but mashed not rice (haha). Gives me the illusion of having something white under the curry. I have to be organised too, it’s how I’ve learned to get my household working over the years, with mini-people who are rigid in their ways, and I have to include myself in that too. I do get obsessive about things I am interested in or taking part in, and I overwhelm my friends. So this time, I’ve not said a word to my friends and am loving taking part in this forum with people who share this interest. You’re all taking the heat off them LOL.

Janey, that cake looks divine. I’d just like to draw your attention to something I see frequently on her recipes… ‘The boys and their friends have been wolfing down my *insert recipe*’. Perhaps you and Elana could swap boys briefly, then – hers will eat the stuff that you make, and she can send yours back when she has finally ‘broken’ them and they submit? As for coconut sugar, I didn’t even know it existed until now. I’m sure these people are making these foods up and laughing at us for paying a premium. Awwww I don’t know why people don’t like Fearne, I’m not a fan either but you know which ‘health guru’ I really hate? Gwyneth sodding Paltrow. She really boils my urine. First of all she married Chris Martin, then the ungrateful cow divorced him and some of the things she comes out with, smh. I do have a word for her, unfortunately I can’t use it on this forum. It does rhyme with ‘hat’ though, if you’d like to draw your own conclusions.

I’m just looking at that now Josie, I’d never heard of it, but I like it so far. Have you seen the pictures of her on her blog/site? She was actually big once. She looks normal. Fair play to her. Some of the salads look lovely, about to look at the main meals now. Thanks 🙂

And my big news of the day – I have lost TWO pounds this morning! That’s 20lbs gone – GONE – in 19 days. If I wasn’t sat here sneezing, with the heating on, I’d be doing a happy dance around the living room 😀

Fantastic. Great to hear you’ve had a better day. Hope that the scales provide some positive motivation.

I’ve just managed to get rid of the extra 1kg that I gained from somewhere mysterious. But I’m not phased. The trend is in the right direction and I know that I need to keep pushing.

Clothes are starting to look a bit odd. Will have to address this at some time, but not just yet. Got more to lose. Still got another 15kgs in my sights.

Really keen to know what the scales say….

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. Had a better day today because of it! I may actually look forward to getting on the scale with this diet. I really appreciate the encouragement. Keep up the good work Spcox !

I really want this weight off fast also- will stick with it!

    Hi Izzy

fingers crossed for not having to wash sheets at silly o’clock
I love sewing and would love to do more craft and art as well – but my flat is warehouse style, so although it’s large, nowhere to shut out helping paws other than the bathroom, which seems really mean! Have fun with your loft space.

  • Hi sosaladcrew
It’s all the muscle that you’re building – more dense than fat!

I had problems with constipation at the start – and my digestive system is still a bit sluggish – it’s had so many years of copious amounts of junk to shift, it’s taking a while to adjust to having much smaller portions of non-junky food!

I can’t bear psylium husks, I really dislike the texture. I’ve been using senna tablets, which work really well for me.
Boots do an own brand one which is about half the price of the brand leader – and if you look at things like Potters, also quite £££, senna is the main ingredient.

It works fairly gently, and if it doesn’t work the first time, just take another two tablets the next evening – don’t take too many at once.
Try and take it on an evening when you know that you’ll have ready access to the bathroom the following day, until you learn how it works with your body. After the initial problems, I probably take it once a week, and needing it less frequently as time goes on.

Another thing that I read was linking very low salt levels with constipation – after moving from convenience food to cooking from scratch, my salt intake was very low, as I never used to use salt when cooking vegetables, or add it at the table – worth bearing in mind and trying. Google “salt” and “constipation” to get a selection of articles discussing this.

I also found that in not having my usual vogel bread, and trying to pick low carb veg, my fibre intake was quite low, which wouldn’t have been helping with the digestive problems, so I’ve worked on improving that too.

  • Psyllium husk works in powder form for bunged-up-bowels, if you buy the powder on-line, you’ll find it cheaper than Metamucil which is the same stuff, but with colourants & sweetners.

Diet drinks are full of nasties which con our brains & guts into bad calorie-saving habits. MM was on Radio 2 talking about diet drinks yesterday. Don’t go there, drink water, herb tea, play with fizzy-water & slices of lime.

I eat as many ‘above the ground’ veggies as I like, lots of salad & herbs, steamed broccoli with chilli is delish. I cut the calories on protein & fat and eat ‘permitted carbs’ eg pulses & legumes.

Water is essential, as is some form of exercise, sitting on one’s bum all day, whilst sometimes is inevitable, won’t help anyone get in motion…..!!!

Milled flax-seed goes through the bowels by absorbing fluid & helps movement…. But drinking water will facilitate this.

2 dried prunes a day will not muck up the diet either but will help with issues…..

    Hi Slimmingmayya,
Lovely to hear from you. You’re doing well. 12 pounds is a significant amount of weight. I remember thinking 4 weeks in that I could really do the BSD.
    Best wishes.

On my third day now and looking forward to seeing results on this diet so I will be ready for Southern Hemisphere Summer 🙂

    Hi MREY,
Looks like you got the great Aussie welcome and advice you were hoping for. The Herman Brot bread is not quite as dense as pumpernickel and doesn’t haven’t the distinctive ‘sour’ taste but is seeded bread. Delicious and moist.
Gluten free bread is available in supermarkets here. Aldi has it quite cheap and it is lower carb than other bread but higher than the Herman Brot.
You can find Paleo Cafes of the type run by Pete Evans ( mentioned by getting there) in many big towns and cities.
Mind you, if you listen to all of us you’ll be spending all your time eating or visiting cafes lol 🍴🍷
