I think it might be starting here, Collie. It’ll have a snowball effect on people we know, that’s how I’m on the BSD, after seeing a friend’s dramatic weight loss. I know we go on a bit about finding ways to eat things we shouldn’t but I think it’s only human nature after relying on it (and being addicted to it) for so long. I like knowing that I’m giving my body a chance now, and putting in what is meant to be going into it π (or as close as I can, with a leeeeetle bit of Lidl chocolate here and there)

Hi all,
The thing that annoys me most is that, being on this very healthy diet, you would assume that I would be able to fight Ill health easier? I am thinking that the tummy problem must be something that I have eaten that has upset me, just a thought!

Hi Lucky
Thanks for the offer but I’ll decline pink curry today I am having a yellow day today . Yellow peppers and tomatoes and I snuck in an orange so high in carbs but love them.On a slightly different note but toilet in theme just listened to a bbc radio 4 food program on microbes part 2 – caught it on catch up . There is now a lot of evidence emerging re false sugars and processed food destroying the bacteria of our guts . Lots of research going on at Tommies in London. This effects weight loss and mood. In a few years there will be a revolution I hope xxx
Keep up the bsd comedy store you all and Lucia are amazing and so funny

I am so cross because I am a really proficient curry maker, and I should have seen by the recipe that it wasn’t going to match the pictures on the website. The only spice in it was garam masala and chilli. That should have rang alarm bells for starters. And thank God I only had 60g of cashews left, the recipe called for 100g! It won’t go to waste, I’ll freeze it and we’ll eat it when desperate. I might try and doctor it somehow. But I don’t even want to think about it right now.
Ohhhhhh fresh bread, crusty? Is it? Crusty? π
-
Hi Imogen,
Oh thank you Imogen, it does so help to know I can have a rant on here, and get positive responses! I think I need a bit of time not dashing here and there, while feeling dreadful, so that I can re-focus on where I need to be! It won’t be happening anytime soon though, so I will just have to get there some other way?
Christine -
Oh dear, another recipe for the ‘That Didn’t Quite Work’ book. I haven’t cooked with my European surplus sized bag of cashews yet. I think they could be a bad omen…
Hmm, I’m rethinking the ‘Broads’ moniker… Surely we are aiming NOT to be broad???
I just bought some gorgeous fresh bread that was reduced in the co-op. It’s going to kill me to watch/ smell as its devoured by the horde π© No Janey, resist..
-
Hello Collie π Well done on reaching your 8 weeks (nearly) and all the pounds you have lost. That makes sense, ditch the scales. It’s inches that get you into a new dress size, not pounds π
You will find many double entendres here. That Janey is filthy… tsk. Filthier than a sewer rat, that girl’s mind…
I have curry here Collie, if you’re hungry. It’s pink mind… π x
-
Oh, I don’t know about the genius bit, Tokyo π You’ve got to laugh haven’t you, it’s a boring life otherwise?
In other news… I can’t believe I am saying this but I have just ordered a takeaway. My curry went horribly, horribly wrong. Curry should not ever be white. And I mean white, not creamy or korma-ey. WHITE. And not even the tomato puree I shoved in could remedy it. I now have a pink curry. It’s… nutty due to the cashews. I mean, of course it bloody would be. Am I simple or something? It was just all wrong. In the picture it was a lovely deep red colour. Put it this way, I am so hungry that a meat knot is sounding very appealing at the moment! So I have ordered a chicken kebab with salad on a naan (but it’s more of a wrap) and I’ll give the extra naans to my son.
BSD broads???? Bahahahahahaha.
-
Oh My you lot have so made my day. I was struggling and I have been chuckling away about meat, knots , bananas .I too googled it !! O my. Oh my I love a double entendre. Please keep posting I am near the end of my first 8 weeks and defo struggling a bit sooo hungry losing inches but not pounds. So am not weighing for a while as clothes looser etc. However am 18 lbs down
I have been away and stalking the posts as not enough wifi to post it has too so helped me thank you all xxxx

We’ve missed our vocation Lucky. We could do the comedy circuit as the BSD Broads π

Thank you π

you two are like a genius double act !! x
-
I was going to give cauliflower rice another crack… we’ll see. Thumbs up on the coconut oil. Good call π
-
Hi Christine,
Welcome back!
Sounds like you had a bit of a rough time. I hope you start to feel better really soon! You will be back to yourself (and the BSD) all in good time. For now focus on getting well.x
-
I think she lives on dust.
But yes, cashew induced obesity or heart failure should maybe be avoided. We sell lasers at work so I reckon I could shave a 1mm piece off tho…
Cook your meat knot in coconut oil, it’ll add a little je ne sais quoi…. And serve it with cauliflower mash. That’ll do it.

No problem Christi1948. We are all here to support one another and I have benefitted from that in the past too. It can be hard to shake the negativity, but I find it helps if there is someone offering a little support. Keep us posted on progress and shout again it you need to, as someone will respond for sure.
Good luck getting back on track. -
I think if you can get past the sugar craving bit, you will find it easy to resist the temptation. Why not think up some little personal rewards you can treat yourself to if you resist the temptation to eat the cake/biscuits/chocolate etc.? Like a long soak in the tub or new shower gel, new nail varnish or body lotion – sure you can dream up something to suit you.
-
I would cook it in olive oil, obvs… hehehehe π
Before you roast her (not literally) (although…) – is she dairy free/vegan? If so fair enough. If not, that many calories on nuts is madness. Your slice would have to be like 1mm thin.
-
Hi sunnyB,
Thank you for your response, it does help knowing someone is there ‘helping me out’ it’s not as if it’s anything serious, however it’s been frustrating! Other people have far worse things to deal with I know, it’s how you deal with them, that’s where I have come a cropper!
Thank you again.
Christine -
Good luck Jess J. Sounds like you are all ready to go and focused on making real change. I’ve found a new culinary creativity and I’m sure you will too. Make sure you let us all know how you progress and shout out if you need any support.
-
And yes, I may tweet Fearne aggressively and demand to know how a cheesecake can be cheese less.
-
Meat knot???? I think they’re allowed on the BSD!!!!!! Low carb, most definitely. And a small one must be under 800 cals??(I’m off for a lie down in a darkened room now!)
-
Thanks greenjanet. Mine’s quite canny – produces the yummy cake and says ‘OK, I’ll leave it here – you might fancy it later’ and of course I do. I see your point tho’ I need a strategy to be able to avoid it later or even just find the strength to put it in the bin.
Maybe it gets easier if one gets past the craving for sugar.
-
You could try pecans, although they are higher in both cals and carbs, but I guess if you use less this will compensate.

Sounds like you have it nailed! Great result to be back where you were in just one week. I was away for a ten weeks, mainly in Turkey and gained just under three pounds. Have been back on the BSD for three days and have lost half of that. Sticking to the plan really doesn’t take too much effort and even without exercise good things seem to happen. -
Hey Christi1948,
Hope you are feeling a little better for offloading. Sounds like you have been through a particularly rough patch. I understand those feelings of frustration, both at yourself and the situation. Not been a stranger to that myself in the past. Try – and I know it’s hard – not to feel guilt and beat yourself up for your transgressions, as it just makes you feel worse and makes you more likely to nibble on things you shouldn’t.
I’ve found the BSD regime is so easy to pick up again, I’m sure you will be back on track again soon and seeing results. Take care -
Don’t resist. We can share the handcart… π
-
Must….. resist……. the urge…….. to write…… something inappropriate!
-
That’s not the worst of it. I read the words ‘meat knot’ and felt hungry π I am a terrible, terrible person.
-
1. I made Lucky Maneki look up “banana hammock” on google π
2. I’m back on track today
3. I’ve just found out that I’m not working Friday night.
-
Hahahahahaha. That has made my day π
-
OK – first and foremost. I didn’t know what a ‘banana hammock’ was. So I made the mistake of Googling it. And then the second mistake of choosing Urban Dictionary for the definition…
‘A men’s style of undergarment that holds the genitalia in a sling-like hammock apparatus, allowing the meat knot to protrude offensively. ‘
Jesus. H. Christ. *Crying*
Janeyyyyyyyyy! Hello π The only reservations I had about the Fearne Cheesecake was… have you calculated how many calories are in THAT many cashews? And… it has no cheese in it. Apart from that… I hope you got your lunch before you killed your colleague.
Awwwwww Baristagirls, chin up honey. Some days are sent to try us xo

Today is not my day π I bet I will get on better trying to eat in London! That’s the way it goes

on 30 Jun 2016 at 15:07 in Starting the BSDHi interested to know how many of us started this day and how much are you planning on getting rid of. I have 7 st 1lb I want to give away to the fat pixies, how about you.

Hi jeannieone and nettle.
Yes I find this revolutionary diet nothing short of a miracle, mind you only started yesterday, but have absolute faith in the science behind it all. Having dieted badly for 41 years I was aware of all this but all the advise always said the opposite. I don’t have the condition you both have but have other conditions I have to be aware of. But having been reading the forums here for the past five weeks, no one appears to have experienced any serious debilitating occurrences and if there was as this diet is so high profile in the media at the mo, Im sure the media would have found them to make an interesting documentary or something. So onwards, and I absolutely relish this new approach wholeheartedly. Keep up the excellent work both of you. Here’s to lots of losses, and healthy blood sugars, and I’m sure everything else will normalise also, or at least improve.

on 30 Jun 2016 at 14:13 in Starting the BSDHi Everyone.Im back from 10days in Singapore . I managed to eat quite well but I did not stick to the diet,I did discover that I don’t really enjoy sweet stuff now.I stayed in an apartment so I did make eggs for breakfast and get some salad stuff from the supermarket. I gained 2KG and my fasting BGL was a round 6. After 1 week back on the diet ,Iost 2KG and BGL is 5.4.I walked a lot while away as well as swimming. Now its really cold and I am not doing any exercise.Overall, I’m happy because I know that I can stay on the diet indefinitely.I can eat mostly what the family has but no potatoes, rice ,bread etc..I will need to be abit more strict with potion sizes.
Hows everyone else doing? -
Janey, I don’t go for the banana hammock type speedos, I’m more of a Daniel Craig/James Bond type of guy.
I don’t think anyone can look good in a pair of budgie smugglers.
-
Never fear, Janey’s here.. Altho I may have to eat my arm if my ****** colleague doesn’t stop messing about at the tesco self serve checkout… Obviously I can’t ‘just grab a sandwich’ and my lunch is in the office!!! Certainly lots of positive energy out there today from the BSD posse π
Tim, sorry about your friend, altho your comment about speedos did make me laugh. BSD or not, No one apart from Tom Daley can pull that look off π
Eating or snacking out is a challenge for anyone on the first 8 weeks so I’ve taken some useful hints from this mornings thread. I’m in London at the weekend so will hunt down those healthy pots. Although.. We are destined to hit China town as a treat for the kids, so could be a challenge there. The ‘safest’ meal out I’ve found so far is Indian, as tandoori dishes can be adapted.
Baking wise, I’m in a dilemma about sugars/honey/syrup now. So maybe cheese scones will be this Saturday’s recipe to try. Until I can buy non- sugary sugar that is.. Still got those cashews to use up.. Cheesecake from Fearne anyone?
-
I did Baristagirls, I loved whole nut, I’ll try that next time I go nut shopping (hahahaha not even joking, sadly) I have cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts and pistachios to use up first. They’re quite distinctive tasting aren’t they, I can see how that would work π I hope you manage to bypass the pizza, be strong! You only want it because you shouldn’t have it π
I’m sorry to hear about your friend passing, Timmy. Don’t be too hard on yourself for dealing with it in the way you did. It’s good to see that no damage was done on the scales anyway, so you’ve had a bit of a reprieve there. Onwards now and push yourself to get muffintop-less before France.
Tokyo, well done π Did you get anything nice from the garden centre? My garden has gone crackers the last couple of days with the rain we’ve had, absolutely nuts, I’m going to have to go out there later, the weeds that have sprouted on my patio, and ivy, my goodness, literally just in this last week. Just realised sister in law might not be staying with us but she will still be visiting us and everywhere is decimated – indoors, outdoors lol. Meh. Good luck with the brownies, if you do them π I’m going to try that frozen yogurt with berries and peanut butter bark thingy recipe. It’s only what I’d eat in its normal state, so I don’t see that freezing it will do any harm?
Where is Janey today?

The important thing is that you are here on the site Annadongela.
There are loads of people of all ages, sizes, weights and at various points in their journey so there is always someone to throw in helpful ideas /suggestions to support you along the way.
I think your target is absolutely achievable as long as you follow Michaels advice including drinking the huge amount of water and increasing your activity levels bit by bit.
For me personally ( also a chocolate and cake monster) I knew that if I didn’t move temptation out of the way I would fail very quickly cos I have the breaking strain of a Kit-Kat!
So for several weeks I sifted all the “white” foods and choc treats etc it felt a bit like a bereavement and I very uncomfortable and empty inside.
The other thing you mentioned was not being keen on quite a few of the recipes. Me too. So what we did was sat and chose the ones we liked the look of most to cover seven days of breakfasts, lunches and dinners and then looked at the calendar to see what evenings or daytimes we would need quick meals or events that would trip us up. Did a shopping list split into first half and second half of the week to try and ensure we got the freshest foods each day. Once you get the hang of weighing and measuring things and balancing out daily carbs & calories etc you can put into the diet some of the things you like better than using ingredients you detest. Many folk on here don’t use the exact recipes and post helpful ones in the recipe section ….so I crib those too.
Once you realise you are powerful and can do it….you’ll fly – a bit like learning to ride a bicycle for the first time without the stabilisers when you’re a kid .
Wishing you all the best…get the helmet and knee pads on !!…….P -
Hi all,
I haven’t been on the forum properly for a while, just dipping in here and there, I have had a health problem for a few weeks, a ‘virus’ which refused to leave me! Then a back problem that I have had for over forty years, then if that wasn’t enough to cope with I have had a bout of tummy trouble, I do have diverticular trouble, which this problem isn’t, however it is similar! So because of all that my weight and eating has been all over the place, losing one week then putting it on the next! Finally went to doctor, he was only helpful as far as my back was concerned! More nerve tablets to deaden the pain in back and both legs! As to the ‘virus’ and tummy trouble, he says It is
connected! And of course as its a virus I just have to wait till it goes, so Im in a quandary? I am really struggling with the way I feel, so I have been depressed, ( this happens to me whenever I can’t work out what to do) I have not eaten any bread, pasta, rice, I have had a chip here and there, although didn’t have more than one as I didn’t like the taste, so why did I even taste one?
We have had birthdays, Father’s Day, big family gatherings, granddaughters first communion weekend, then this weekend our church garden party, all this one on top of the other from 14 May to now! So that has meant foods I normally would have eaten before bsd! I have found it more difficult than normal with feeling so under the weather, and I’m sorry to say I have fallen off the wagon on a few occasions, which has lead to the yo yo feelings too!
I am trying to get ‘back on the horse’ and therefore carry on, I just needed to offload on here how I felt, I WILL get there it’s a case of when not if.
I am being gentle with myself, (trying) to do mindfulness too, trying to not feel guilty it only makes me feel more guilty and eat all the wrong stuff, mainly with me chocolate is my nemesis!
So, sorry for my rant, I hope it makes me feel better!
Christine -
well lucky how good am i ?
i could have gone clothes shopping today but after reading this thred and looking through my wardrobe i decieded to put the clothes shopping on hold just for a while longer ( theres so much stuff in my wardrobe that 1) i cant quite get into or2) is a bit snug with labels on so instead i went to the garden centre !!!!!
i may attempt the brownies from the book this afternoon lets see how these go !! -
Good to hear you’re back Judith.
-
Hi Judith,
Welcome back, you have been missed!
Christine -
Hi Lynne,
Well done, I’m so pleased for you, and like all the other members, I agree, do what you feel is comfortable, it’s your life, your body, so only you know how you feel!
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to match your weight loss.
Christine. -
Thanks! Never heard of that in M&S. Will look out for it. I also love the food in EAT. I’ve previously had the chicken pot pie and I could always ditch the pastry bit inside it.
Today is a work celebratory lunch for already hitting our June targets. Pizza. Normally I don’t think pizza is amazing so why do I feel like I want a piece instead of my soup and mozzarella π -
Thanks Timmy,
We call that a Butternut Pumpkin, https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/Search/Products?searchTerm=butternut&name=pumpkin-butternut-whole&productId=147195
Had it with small piece of steak and steamed veg. End of Day 4Thanks
-
Hi Jeff, butternuts and pumpkins are from the same family but they’re not the same fruit. A butternut looks like this http://www.goodwholefood.com/butternut-squash-nutrition/
Whilst a pumpkin looks like this http://www.anaturaldifference.com/pumpkin/
Not sure what the difference is nutritionally, but I don’t expect there to be a huge variation.

Hi JeannieOne
Welcome in, this is THE place to be as you have found. I am hypothyroid, twice tried Thyroxine in the past 10 years and twice crashed and ended up in a/e. Third time I was prescribed it by the specialist endocrinologist I refused to take it. I have tried all sorts to lose weight too, now on week 16 BSD, have lost 13kg, slow but sure, my energy levels are amazing, up hills no problem.
When out on a walk the other day I started feeling frustrated that the past decade had been wasted…then I decided to turn that around to thinking I will celebrate a healthy next decade. It certainly made my day. Accept what we can’t change.
I’m waiting a few more months before I go get repeat blood tests but I know the high readings will be near as normal.
I am an RN, it was disappointing and unsettling at times to work with professionals who thought they had all the answers but patients were not improving.Being in the best nick you can be prior to surgery will make for an easier recovery.
Well done on your progress to date, one stone in a month is life altering, it’s also empowering.

Hi Baristagirls
Re your London trip can I recommend Pret a Manger, M&S Food and EAT for calorie/carb counted meals.
I would specially recommend the M&S Edamame and Hummous Protein pot (in the takeaway food section), which is really filling (you need to eat it with a spoon), totally delicious and 183 cals with 5g carbs 12gm fat and 10g protein. I always make a beeline for that if having to eat out.
Hope it goes well!
