    Hi everyone,
So I’m on day 6 and I weighed in this morning and have only lost another 100 g since my day 2 weigh in. A total of 1.3kg. What gives??? Has anyone else come across this? I’ve been sticking to the diet religiously. Feeling a bit frustrated… On the upside I do feel better and haven’t got any cravings so I’m poaching some chicken breast for dinner together with a salad. Hopefully the scales will change soon.
Great to read about everyone’s successes! It does keep me motivated and thinking that maybe this old body of mine is just trying to trick me into thinking it doesn’t work πŸ™‚

    Good morning my lovelies.

Monday again, how does that keep happening so fast?

Yesterday my daughter and I were not overly impressed with the movie ‘The Secret Lives of Pets’ it wasn’t bad and there were bits that made me laugh – but it wasn’t awesome.

Before we left I didn’t know if my husband would be home in the afternoon and I set the oven timer to cook the chicken for dinner. I was feeling smug. However when my daughter and I were sat in the cinema I suddenly remembered…I may have set the timer but the chicken was still in the fridge. Thankfully I texted my husband and he was home to pop it in lol.

Yesterday evening my friend came desperate to see my loft den. So we were up there chatting and enjoying the atmosphere of the room, discussing my plans, and I painted a dreamcatcher on a coaster πŸ™‚ It still needs varnishing so once it is finished I will add a picture to my blog. She is an amazingly supportive friend worth her weight in gold and more. I need a 2nd seat up there for a guest so I was thinking I might get a bean bag.

My daughter asked if she could have the stoney painting I did the other night so I’ve given it to her, and she has requested I do her an underwater scene with lots of fish! I will try. Sudden thought – I could make people christmas gifts this year…

Food was strawberry shake for breakfast, lentil soup for lunch, pasta bake for the family so I’ll make something for me with courgetti.

I would have been over calories on saturday and sunday (over carbs then too I expect) so definitely back to 800 for me today.

    Have a lovely day πŸ™‚

Janet – Stay greedy, have 100 positives!

My friend came yesterday to inspect my den! She loves it and insisted I paint something whilst she was there, she stood patiently watching me paint a dreamcatcher on a coaster, provided encouragement and insisted I keep doing my stuff. She is an amazing friend I’ve had in my life for 21 years and seriously has walked beside me through my hardest experiences. She is my biggest cheer leader and I love her dearly.

Had a lovely day yesterday out with my daughter,

    My son gives awesome hugs.

I’m up to date with the laundry. Of course that will last half a day at most but still!

Morning! Well it’s the end of my initial 8weeks today. Haven’t lost anything this week, I suppose I had to go through a plateau at some stage (or was it those chocolate covered strawbs😳) but I am happy enough. I have lost over 2 stone (13 kg) and over 6 inches off my waist. Feeling healthier and more energetic than I have for a very long time. A colleague wanted to know if I had something done as I looked younger by the day – a lovely comment! Off on holiday tomorrow and I will be trying to keep to my new way of living. It really isn’t much of a hardship at all. Will check in at the end of the month when I am back. Thanks for all your support on this site – you are all amazing. Keep at it – I look forward to reading about your progress! X

    Hi Everyone,
I have just started the 8 week plan today. I’m vegetarian so will be modifying some of the recipes – any other veggies out there? I need to lower my blood-sugar and my husband has bad arthritis so he is doing the plan with me to see if it helps with his inflammation. We have lots of social functions coming up but have started anyway. I’m always fussy lol so no-one will notice. I’m not usually big on eggs but since high sugar diagnosis I have tried to include more – this morning I had a kale, cherry tom, spring onion and red pepper omelette and for lunch an almond butter and avo/salad lettuce wrap. Reading your posts reminds me to go drink some water. Will menu plan tonight and shop properly tomorrow.

Congratulations to everyone for doing so well.

I’m still learning about what I can and can’t eat, and so am getting mixed results.
I’m using Ketostix to see if I’m burning keytones instead of carbs. that way I can see what foods tip me over into the carb-burning zone.
I can’t login so often due to the work I do; I work away from home for three weeks out of every six.

A summary of my first week is below – in case it is encouraging or useful to anyone. Please correct me if I am wrong on any of my hypothese.
    1. I found that I got an awful headache on about the second day. I had the headache for about two to three days. I looked up what happens to our bodies, and found that, when eating and burning carbs, your body releases insulin, even at the thought of food, When the insulin stays in your blood (as I suppose it does if you don’t eat carbs – apparently insulin holds a “key” for assisting the carbs enter the fat-cells in your body), you get headaches. I suppose that when the headaches go, a person is burning ketones instead of carbs and not releasing much insulin.
    2. I lost weight – not much, about a kilo, then put it on again when I ate a Vietnamese dish – Pho, when in the city with my daughter. there were noodles in the dish – and I ate them. I also noticed, from the Ketostix, that I stopped burning keytones.
    3. Drank some red wine one night, but that did not seem to affect my weight loss, but lowered the amount of ketones being burnt.
    4. Not discouraged, I went back on the diet and lost another kilo. I have lost my enthusiasm for food, which is a good thing. But thought I’d try to make muffins. I googled and thought I’d make my own recipe based on low-carb recipes on-line, and the comments on what reviwers would do to improve the recipe. My version was delicious – but this morning, I was almost a kilo heavier, and my body had returned to burning carbs (Ketostix evidence).
    5. So today, I will return to just drinking black tea (vanilla rooibos), one coffee with a tablespoon of cream, a quarter teaspoon of cocoa in water with a tablespoon of cream, and my favourite – vegetables fried/broiled in coconut oil and butter, and a little haloumi or goat’s cheese.

Well good to read that others have been challenged and then have picked up the challenge again. I am feeling fairly positive. I am down 1.6 kilos so whilst much of it may be water I feel lighter. I think my issue is that I tend not to formally count calories. I sorta of work it out but this morning thought I need to be mindful of exactly what it is I am consuming. I am on school holidays and whilst my position requires meetings and catch up jobs I am so grateful not to have to move out of bed at 6 am….I think will start planning recipes this am!

Well done all of you – there are lots of stellar examples on this forum.

KBoo – join me on another round of the BSD800. I have had a rotten week or so and reckon that the extra kilo and a half is not water retention but consumption of extra carbs. I’ve been eating too much. Just inputting tomorrow’s meals into mfp now so I know what calories I have left over and cannot kid myself if I want to binge (am a past mistress in the art of telling myself it’s not much, just a mouthful or so!). Welcome to the forum, and Bril that you start tomorrow, I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis of PCOS, but I can assure you as you will have seen from reading on this forum, this way of eating, helps you to feel seriously well, and I am sure a week from today you will be feeling a bit more positive, and weight loss always helps us cope with things better doesn’t it.
Not sure what you mean by macros, but eat what the book tells you you can, count everything cals up to 800 and carbs up to 50 I count both some people don’t. You can download myfitnesspal app which gives you cals and carbs.
So keep us posted, need any help just shout there’s always someone online to assist

    Hi Switzerland and Linda A

Thanks for your encouragement. I’m sorry to say that today was another failure – my husband made french toast for lunch which both children were turning their noses up at…. I was drafted in to demonstrate how lovely it was (actually, it was rather burnt, yet soggy at the same time, but I was still required to scoff it all up and declare it was yummy!). I also needed to eat the french toast to encourage my husband to approach the cooker more often!!! It was an impossible situation!

My second failure was a chocolate fountain that my husband “had” to test for work. We used fruit on cocktail sticks, but pretty soon we were all covered in the stuff. At first, I restrained, but seeing as I’d already had french toast and my husband only ever enters the kitchen once a year, I was soon elbowing the children out of the way to get at it.

Ho hum. Maybe tomorrow. On the plus side, my throat is healing up nicely and I didn’t need to chain-eat the choc ices today.

Lucia, your antics in the gym and the garden are very inspiring!

Thanks, all of you – I hope you all have a good day tomorrow,

I think you should stop smoking while on the BSD.
Get a copy of Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking: Revised Edition, read it & then stop smoking.

    Why?

Because so many who stop smoking go onto have problems with their weight. If you’re tackling the weight now with a clear structured eating style when you stop smoking you’ll be less likely to head down the road of excess eating and bad habits or fall off the healthly eating wagon. The mindfullness you are doing now for the BSD will also help you after you stop smoking.

Yup I am an ex-smoker who read Allen Carr’s book after I stopped smoking and wished I had read his book first. It took me a long time to come to the same concolusions as Allen Carr and just stop. Food then came my next addiction. Had I stopped smoking & followed a way of eating like the BSD I know I would not have put on so much weight. Weight that I now need to loose 6 years later!

At least get the book…you have nothing to loose!

I’m ok with most insects, but slugs and snails are my fear. I once lived in an awful rented place and I’d wake up in the morning and my sofa, carpets etc would be covered in trails. Made the error of getting up for a glass of water in the early hours and I saw them in my kitchen on the floor, and without sounding crude, they were like huge poos on the floor, I have never seen anything like it in my life, mutant slugs. I went to take a bin bag out this morning, lifted the lid up, two slugs fell out at my feet. I screeched and took the bag back in. If someone steps on a snail it makes me physically sick.

Yes, that sounds nice and do-able. I wish I could bring myself to try the cheese, I’ve been seeing it a lot in cookery mags and it looks nice, all golden and crispy on the outside, but I just don’t think I can bring myself to.

Good that it’s gone though, so you don’t have another slice tomorrow. Slippery slopes and all that!

Ah I forgot to tell you, I don’t think I’d be able to try squeaky cheese because it’s different milks isn’t it? And I’m a bit… nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh about that. Hello Epspecially πŸ™‚ Lol, extensive meaning… rambly? πŸ˜‰

Soup sounds lovely, I love a bit of chorizo. Nothing like a nice spicy sausage… Ah did you make Tokyo’s chickpea biscuits? I think they’re going to be trial and error with the sugar and chocolate bits to get the right balance of sweetness, isn’t it? As long as it overwhelms the ‘chickpeaness’ of them. It’s not a bad taste, but it’s more savoury than sweet. Cheap enough to practice with though, I suppose, compared to almond flour anyway!

I’m supporting Portugal too, mainly because of Ronaldo, because I am a United fan and he’s a legend. Feel so sorry for him, he must have really hurt himself to ask to come off. Walk on the spot and shout at the telly πŸ™‚ You’re welcome. Full of use(less)ful ideas, me!

I think it has certainly helped but the journey started long before then. I always wanted to write as a child for example and just stopped as a young adult on the assumption there was no point and I didn’t have time. I didn’t paint because I assumed I wouldn’t paint anything worth having… I can blame my art teacher 30 years ago for that one. I’ve always been creative in the practical sense working out ways to fix things etc.

Really when my husband became so ill with his depression I didn’t recognise him and it was so bad I had told him our marriage was about to end I realised that I was juggling all of our joint responsibilities. His depression had caused him to check out a while before. All I did was work and kids, work and kids and all that did really was make him worse and make me ill too. That was the turning point, a time when I stood up and demanded that I could and should take back time for me. I wrote my first novel in a haze of depression but it helped me survive it – my own little world where I had control over what happened.

Couple that with coming to that place in my life where I don’t fear failing at something. If no one likes my painting who cares – I like doing it. If I never sell a book who cares – I’ve enjoyed writing and people I love have enjoyed reading.

It’s been a long walk back to health for me and I don’t dismiss the part BSD has played but it isn’t all that has contributed. I’m also aware that whilst increasingly I do feel better it also doesn’t take much to knock me down. I am inching ever closer to health but I’m still not quite there.

    In other news… I ate a chocolate muffin…

    confession complete!

all other food as planned, chicken salad and home made salsa any minute and tomorrow back to 800!

Glad you’re feeling better Janey. I’m thinking long and hard as to whether to ‘risk’ drinking in the foreseeable. I thought the cake looked fab. I’m finding things very sweet all of a sudden, I had a couple of almonds before and they were really sweet, something I’d never noticed before. If I’m baking in future with that coconut stuff I’m going to use much less than the recipe calls for.

I really enjoyed my tea, against my expectations. I made sure I had all the tastes of the burger on my plate, the salad, gherkins, mayonnaise, and I ate it, very slowly with a knife and fork, cutting the burger into the smallest of pieces. Felt like I’d eaten a huge meal. If it had been on a barmcake, it’d have been gone in five bites!

    Good afternoon everyone.
Today has been an interesting day, weigh in this morning. Hubby has lost 11.4 llbs and myself 8 llbs. We are pretty happy with the result and are enjoying trying new foods and recipes. My husband is T2 and has been taking his sugars am and 2 hrs after dinner every day, his levels have dropped to 4.2 he usually takes 2 x 1000 mg prolonged release metformin hydrochloride every evening, he has decided to drop 1 of the tablets from tonight and see what happens to his readings. We are feeling great, more energized, less bloated and thinner. Had to get the hubby 2 new suits today as the old ones looked massive, he only wants to loose another 1/2 stone, but he is desperate to get off the tablets. I have a little more to loose but found a smaller pair of jeans that now fit, and clothes are generally feeling a bit looser. Gonna be a tough week ahead its our sons graduation on wednesday so we are off out for a celebration meal, then off in the camper for a few days to catch up with old friends.
Even though i havent lost as much weight as my husband , yet !, I am determined to keep going and get to a point where I am happy with what I see in the mirror .
Stir fry and salmon steak tonight….yum xxx
    Stay strong out there
    xxxxxxx

As long as you are not seriously hungry, have a snack before and after but there is no need to eat lots before. It is fluid you lose so just make sure you drink plenty of water afterwards.
