I have been drinking SKIMMED Milk for years (Since doing a low fat diet) . Is there ANY benefit in staying with this or should I just enjoy FULL FAT MILK and count calories !!

posted by sunshine-girl on 40 yo woman, starting 21st August with a goal to lose 40kg! (88 lb)
on 20 Aug 2016 at 12:58 in Starting the BSDOh GemGem, you made me cry. Looks like you have hit a wall and are ready to change your life. Good for you. There is a difference between appetite and hunger and we eat for many more reasons than hunger. Try sitting somewhere quiet, feet on the floor, hands resting on lap and close your eyes. Breath slowly and evenly and clear your mind (god I sound like a guru). Now try to imagine how you want to look and feel in 2 months (or 8 weeks). Don’t see yourself as super slim and healthy, see yourself getting into 2 sizes smaller or even that top size you couldn’t get into on your shopping trip. Don’t sweat the big stuff, some goals are so far away they seem impossible, look at the near future and set yourself some small goals. There is a thread on here about what goals have you reached and some are weight or health related and some are more trivial. I tend to wear my big pants because I don’t feel worthy of the lacy numbers in the drawer, but I am worth it so my next goal is to lose 5lbs more and chuck out the big pants.
You say you were out of breath, sweating etc just from walking around shopping. I took my 2 grandsons to a theme park this week and we walked around from 8am till 10pm only sitting down for a cool drink and then for lunch. My feet hurt but so did there’s, normally I would have been finding the stairs and the slopes hard and begging for a rest. It was only later I realised I hadn’t had to stop at all.
Good luck and stick with us, we are all in the same boat. I am a slow loser, only 8lbs in 7 weeks, hey ho, my health has improved so thats what counts. I’m going to be following you so keep posting.
-
Thank you Yowzer and Verano π
The results make the effort entirely worthwhile. My 2 top tips would be
1) Take inspiration from others but never compare yourself to them. We are all unique and there will always be people who see bigger results faster and those who will take a little longer
2) Use the experience to learn about yourself and your body. Be truthful with yourself and use it to your advantage
By week 4 I decided to stop weighing myself everyday. I prefer the anticipation and gratification of hopping on the scales once a week and seeing the combined result in one go. But that’s just my own preference.
Also, I understand the limitations of my will power and the cupboards are bare save for the specific ingredients for my planned meals/snacks. That has saved me from myself on more than 1 occasion <big sigh>

Welcome.
I’m 66 years old and had about the same weight as you to lose. When I began this journey I thought I was 5ft 2ins, but have since been told I’m only 5ft 1insπ± That meant I had a few more pounds to lose!
Today, at the end of week 35 my total weight loss is 86 pounds, with 5 pounds more to lose until I reach my target weight and healthy BMI. After 4 of those pounds I’ll have lost 40% of my starting body weightπ±
if you want to know more, check out my threads. Any questions please ask.
Lots of helpful people on these forums. As Verano said, we’re all different. What suits me might not suit someone else. Some use apps to monitor good and progress. I use a notebook and pen! I would suggest that you record everything – food, weight, medical test results etc.
-
Thanks Toyko14 π
sunshine sounds healthy what you ate if I translated it correctly –
burgers with beans with lettuce & you stole 2 thin cut cheese slice pieces π
Today has been very healthy so far. My health shake in the morning (yoghurt, green tea, flax seeds, blueberries) and my soup machine is in action at the moment cooking and preparing my lunch. Tonight is chicken stir fry with lime and cocunut (very low carb/cal). All in all without any extras my calories total up to 612. Just got to decide what extras to have for the full 800.
-
Gavin, glad you blanked out that swear word. Last night I cooked burgers in b–ns with ch–s, and I put my hand up, I stole 2 ch–s, but the skinny ones. Stop beating yourself up and stop eating cr-p, that’s what works for me. A pound off today to back on track.
-
OMG! I can’t believe the orange I just ate and put into MFP has 16 carbs!!!!!!!!!!!
What is with that???Down 1.2kgs so that is keeping me going… I really miss the cereal for breakfast but all good otherwise…
I had a scrambled egg this morning and that wasn’t so bad…
How is everyone else going?

I always feel hot so I can’t help you on that one… Think mine is menopause….hot flushes…

Continuing the theme of how to avoid temptation – not having cash etc – I do all my food shopping online and consider it a failure if I have to go anywhere near a supermarket. I find food shopping mind numbingly boring at the best of times anyway. It does help with planning and I think it works out cheaper as you only buy what you need.
-
Gavin- i went on hol last week and pretty much ate what i wanted!!! you name it i tried it!! and was no surprise on tues weight had gone up!! so back on it and felt pants all this week but had a cheeky weigh in this morning and i have lost 2 kg !!!!! mad so if i can do it you can keep going and next saturday i bet you when you jump on the scales you will have lost !!!!! at least you didnt gain anything fingers crossed you get a double result next weigh in , i am sending you a saint of weighing scales ( theres got to be one!!!!) so keep going we will push you on its only a week till next weigh in !!!
janey safe trip home !!
lucky good lucky in the kitchen!!( see what i did there eh!!!!xx -
Consider this a metaphorical smack on the hand then Gav. 4 weeks is NOT the time to be celebrating I’m afraid. You’re making a long term change for the good and a sneaky fish supper is not going to help!!

Hi Christine
Was out collecting yesterday in a service station. 5.5 hours. Like most service stations, limited shops and eating places. So I was facing the Dunkin Donuts cabinet, downwind of it, about 10ft away for all that time. At the side of that was McDonaldsπ± The combined smell of McDs and donuts was not good! Only other option for those passing through was Costa or something from WH Smiths.
It was interesting to see how many people didn’t use the provided sheet of greaseproof paper to pick up donuts. Last year I watched someone pick one up, without using the paper, put it back and get a different oneπ± I told a member of staff, and that tray was removed.
I kept seeing children clutching a toy – 2 hand paddles and a ball. One child was banging the paddles together – I wondered how long before the parents threw them out of the car! Couldn’t understand why so many children had them, then realised. They were with Happy Meals from McDs. π³
I was really glad to get home, away from the sickly smell of those donuts.

Dont think I had carb flu…… if I be honest at 4 weeks reached , I celebrated with fish & c***s π
-
I’m not 100% sure offhand but wasn’t it my week 5 that I stayed the same? Wonder if it’s a ‘thing’ like carb flu etc. I know Yowzer and it’s a tiny kitchen too, probably less space than even mine π± Not looking forward to it and my heel is killing too. Got some gel things for my trainers, and taken painkillers which have eased it, my sil and niece have had it, my nieces was so bad she had an injection in her foot and had to go on crutches for days after. We are off dinosaur hunting in a bit with my dino mad son, there’s something going on in town. Everyone eating bacon
butties in front of me, I had Greek and blueberries πSafe journey home Janey ππ»

posted by spcox on Unattainable holy trinity: Low Carb vs Low GI vs Low Calories
on 20 Aug 2016 at 10:44 in BSD Way of LifeAfter 10 weeks and 20 kilos lost, I’m starting to work my way into normal life, but staying on 800 calories when I can.
One of the major issues I’m facing is balancing low carb vs low GI vs low calories.
For example:
– Popcorn has low carb, low calories, hi GI.
– Chick peas – low carbs, high calories, low GI
– Watermelon – low carbs, low calories, high GI.WTF!!!
I’m half tempted to ditch the pursuit of achieving the holy trinity because there are no clear answers or directions.
The 8 week BSD is low calories and got me this far. I’m tempted to keep going, while flirting with slightly higher calories to fit into society very occasionally.
Anyone else struggling with this concept?

on 20 Aug 2016 at 10:40 in Starting the BSDI have been warm. But I’m not sure if it is just me (I’m peri-menopausal) or low-carb flu or something else. But yes, I’m feeling hotter than usual, especially at night.

This is the place to be!
It may seem very hard for the first week or so but after that you seem to lose your hunger. I think when you eat low carbs you just feel better and have more energy in general.
There are so many inspiring stories here … have a look at captainlynne’s posts she has done amazingly well. Then there are some of us that lose at slower rate so don’t feel despondent if that happens to you. We are all individuals.
Keep reading the boards for support and inspiration.
Good luck on your journey!

On the money with you issue – I have taken my debit card (contactless – too easy) from my mobile phone holder. I take the phone with me on my dog walk and depending on route can pass various local shops, so passing and was able to tie up the dog and buy temptation any day.
Not having the means to buy anything means I have to make a separate intentional journey to buy things – and the cravings are not that strong. Whereas if in front of me as at the Afternoon Tea yesterday my will power lacks power!

on 20 Aug 2016 at 10:31 in Starting the BSDHello!
Should a TOFI restrict themselves to 800 calories? Would keeping to 50g carbs (or less) and 1000-1200 calories, have a similar effect?
I am a TOFI (thin outside, fat inside) and I’m not overweight (173cm tall, 67kg), but I carry my weight around the waist especially since becoming peri-menopausal. Having a family history of Type 2 diabetes, I am very concerned about the impact of visceral fat and the BSD (and book) seems to be an effective way to reduce it.
-
Yowzer and Ellie amazing losses and great health benefits in such a short time. I’m struggling to get to my first stone …. need to be more vigilant because it can obviously can be done …. just have to try harder.
Well done both of you.

posted by GemGem on 40 yo woman, starting 21st August with a goal to lose 40kg! (88 lb)
on 20 Aug 2016 at 10:29 in Starting the BSDI’m a 40 year old woman, I feel young on the inside but my body is WAY too unhealthy for my age!
I’m 165cm tall, but currently weigh 104 kg. (230 lb). This is 40kg (88 lb) over the healthy weight range!! So I have QUITE a lot to lose!I have a goal of losing 40 kilos (88 pounds) which will put me into the official healthy weight/bmi zone for my height.
My fat is almost all on my big belly, I’m insulin-resistant and then some – I just look at a biscuit and my weight goes up, I think I have type 2 diabetes by now since my last test a year ago when I was told I was on the edge. Back then I was told to lose weight, I tried, failed, tried, failed, tried, succeeded for a month, then put it back on…. argh!
Two months ago I bought the 8-week Blood Sugar Diet book, read it, loved it and… did nothing!! I had no ooomph to start, did nothing further for two months…. until today!
I am starting this diet on 21st August 2016, because today I came home and cried. Both superficial reasons, and health reasons – because I no longer fit into Any clothes in regular shops, I don’t even fit into size L or XL, its my belly, I can’t fit into anything. It was a dreadful shopping trip, I was puffed, sweating, low in energy after just one hour, and my heart beat too fast walking up the escalator, that is ridiculous! I came home from shopping, cried, ate too much to comfort myself (I admit it!), then pulled out this book that I read 2 months ago! Today I have promised myself I will not come back from clothes shopping crying again, that I will not allow my health to deteriorate, I’m only 40! and that I will go swimming at the beach this summer without embarrassment and shame.
This diet is intimidating in that I am Always hungry! I’m never full, I seem to have irresistible food cravings – I am not exaggerating, I am Always hungry!! So I really hope I can change this around. But I am 100% committed and if I fall down I promise to pick myself back up and resume where I left off!
I’m looking forward to taking the journey alongside you guys, looking forward to reading everyone’s posts, and supporting you in return and sharing our ideas along the way!

GAVIN keep going! I have just had a hiatus of about ten days or so..it IS frustrating isnt it! But keep going co it WILL change if you stick to it..over last two days i have suddenly started dropping again and so will you!
Why wasnt Rome built in a day made me smile..i totally agree! π»π»π»π»π»π» big hugs and stay positive! X
LUCKY A buffet for how many?????? And youre gonna make it????????? Never mind the Olympics,YOU deserve gold medals! βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ Havent got medals so giving you stars instead! XX -
KrysiaD – glad I helped. For me it was self-defence as I’m surrounded by food on so many occasions, and people think they have to offer me food when I visit them.
In the past, I’v often accepted, to avoid ‘offending’ people. But then Inreached the point where I realised I was doing myself no good at all. If I was going to get nealthier to be around for my family for a long time, and to continue to work hard, I had to put time and effort into caring for me as well as for others. It has taken a while, but those around me (or at least most of them) now accept that I don’t eat during the day, and certainly no cakes or biscuits, and that I just need handing a black coffee π Easier for them, and better for me!
-
Hi Lynne,
Haha, same here I have done every diet under the sun, lost loads, then put on more weight after! I just hope this diet helps me keep to the healthy eating
.
The meal we had last night was relatively healthy except for the wine and dessert, I’m not like you, I am still craving sweet stuff! So instead of tormenting myself, I have a taste of someone else’s Cake, biscuits, pudding, whatever they are having, that seems to satisfy me, so I don’t feel too guilty!I’m on week 28 and I have 10/11 pounds to lose until I think I will feel happy with my weight! I haven’t been that weight for over 13 years, when one of my daughter got married!
Hay ho, it will happen just not as quick as you! Well done again I’m in awe of you, your faith must have helped you I’m sure?

Hi john,
I have just read your post that you only have four pounds to go, well done you! It’s been a couple of days ago now, how long will it take you do you think to lose that magical four pounds?
I have had over a month not doing too well on the diet up one pound down a few ounces! So started doing strict (ish) with myself this week, I’m on week 28 and have ten pounds to lose to get to where I think I will be happy with my weight. I had a great start, then we had a celebratory meal out last night for our wedding anniversary, we rarely eat out so it was a treat! Needless to say I’m not hungry this morning, I will get back to strict today though.
Good luck with that final few pounds, you will do it, what week are you on by the way?
Christine -
How art you doing now?? Read this and totally related to it all!! I start on Tuesday. Just had an op and been told to wait. Will spend the weekend getting in the zone and planning my meals. Hope it’s all going well for you?
-
Just a thought! Maybe if you ate fewer eggs you might not need the prune juice!!
-
Thanks Christine
Hard to say, but if it disappears as it has been doing, should take another 2 or 3 weeks to lose that 5 pounds. Even if it took a week or two longer, it would still be a much quicker result than any of the slimming clubs I’ve wasted so much time and money on over the years.
-
Hi Sandra
Great results so far ππ
I’m one of those who stayed on 800 calories for longer than the 8 weeks because I had more weight to lose. Just finished week 35 with loss to date of 86 pounds (another 5 pounds still to lose).
I was not on diabetes meds (but they were being threatened) and my fasting level the day I started was 10.9, the HbA1c was 9.6. Now my bloods are consistently ‘normal’ I test randomly but the readings are around 3.8 fasting. In April, HbA1c was 5.5, in July it was 5.2.
I’ve thought a great deal about what I will do when I reach my target weight, trying to decide between 5:2 and Mediterranean style eating. After a few holidays, where I learned that I could cope with eating low-carb and watching portion sizes when away from home, I’ve decided that the way forward for me will be to do just that when I reach my target. Just carry on doing what I’m doing now, but gradually increasing the low-carb foods until I reach the point where I’m neither losing or gaining weight. And I’ll continue to record everything as I’m doing now. I do weigh daily, as that means I know exactly what’s going on. If I weighed weekly it could be the start of a very slippery slope – and one I don’t even want to think about.
-
hi lynne,
Thank you, we had a bit of a celebration last night, still not hungry this morning!Congratulations on your recent weight loss, only five pounds to go!!!!!! Yehee! How long will that take you to lose do you think?
Will do my update log this evening as usual.
Christine -
Otherwise we’d all be superskinny I’m afraid. I’ve been on holiday all week and have had several ice creams and some clotted cream scones. BUT it’s only a week out of my life and I’ll be back on course once we get home
-
Hi Leasko. Sounds like a lovely breakfast.
Don’t get too disheartened by last week; just draw a line underneath it and start afresh. It might be helpful to have a working week plan and certainly today’s breakfast is portable to work (it’s exactly what I take to work for breakfast). If you take lunch to work too then maybe Greggs won’t be a temptation. Another ‘trick’ I use is not to have any cash on me as I feel a bit silly paying for small items (buns from Greggs) with a debit card.
I agree with Bissell: I think it’s unhelpful to think of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ food. If you’ve not had any sweet stuff for, say, a month, then eating a slice of indulgent birthday cake isn’t bad, it’s sharing a nice experience with someone you care about.
BTW: I’ve not had any bread (including rye!) for ages now. I had a couple of small slices of wholemeal toast about an hour ago as I’m feeling slightly woolly headed after a ‘do’ last night. The result: stomach cramps. Lesson learnt and off to grill some tomatoes and mushrooms for brunch.
-
Bissell, I have just managed to get the two feral boys to give me a BIG cuddle to set us up for the day x Thank you for putting it all into perspective x Will log back in tonight with the MFP summary of the day.
-
Morning Janeycoupdrop. Yeah I know its not a disaster, just frustrating and my fault too. Why isnt Rome built in a day!
-
My next goal is to lose another 4lbs as this will reach 2 milestones for me. First of all the number of stones I weigh will drop down into the next number and it will also mean I will have lost 10% of my starting weight. I’m hoping I can achieve this in the next 2 weeks, so fingers crossed.
-
Morning Gavin, chin up chuck. Stable weight is just a fact of life some weeks on this WOE and as Lucky pointed out, you’ve NOT gained, plus lost some off your waist. This isn’t a quick fix and you’re still heading in the right direction ππΌππΌππΌ
-
Great news Leasko, breakfast sounds good too! Enjoy the day. And your feral boys π
-
Good luck Lucky. Seems we have (had) the same food weaknesses too. Just thinking about all that food is making me hungry π
-
Hallo Julybies, I don’t often post but I read the forums everyday for inspiration and it helps SO much, so thank you to everyone who takes time to share their thoughts.
Anyway, I have just completed week 5 and the results so far are amazing. I had 8.5 stone to lose, was pre-diabetic and had high blood pressure, along with a host of other issues. After weigh in this morning I can report I have lost 1 stone 10 pounds so far, my fasting blood sugar is now well within the normal range and my blood pressure is coming down every week, in fact I am now down in the pre-hypertension range (and that’s all without my BP meds which I stopped before commencing the diet). I have lost 4″ off my waist, 2.5″ off my hips, and 2″ off my chest. Virtually all my GERD symptoms have resolved, I can get up and down the stairs normally now despite my arthritic knees and the BSD has opened my eyes and imagination to how easy it is to cook healthy, low carb food. Once I finish the 8 weeks my next goal will be to start experimenting with low carb baking as I’ll have some extra calories to play with each week.
For some reason week 5 has actually been the hardest week for me so far. The euphoria of reaching the half way mark at the end of week 4 was followed by the realisation I had to repeat it all again to get to the end of the 8 weeks. I had a wobble and succumbed to fish & chips – erm, twice actually (hides head in shame) – but still managed a 2 lb weight loss. I plan my meals, track on MFP and deal with each day as it comes. Usually I can ignore the odd hunger pangs and cravings but this past week was extra hard. I felt super-hungry all the time and a plumbing emergency at home knocked my well-planned routine way off kilter. Enough of excuses though, today is a brand new week and I feel back in control.
Just wanted to add a high five to everyone still on their 8 week odyssey. This isn’t easy, but it’s not as hard as I thought it would be either. If I can do it, anyone can. Have a good week ahead y’all,
Ellie X
-
I hope so Gavin, I really do… I’m not sticking to carbs or cals on Sunday just ‘allowed’ foods as it’s an all day event with a disco and all manner. Making up a BSD friendly platter for us, salad, cold meats, boiled eggs, some of my low carb bread, heck sausage etc. But the pastry element specifically is bringing me out in a cold sweat because pastry (along with pizza) was my personal love pre BSD. I worshipped at the Altar of Greggs. And I made a mean steak and ale pie π€
Ah well, time will tell how Sunday goes…
-
Thank you Bissell for sharing that, I do appreciate it x I promise that shall be reflecting on those words as I move forward today x
I have just made myself some strawberries , Greek yogurt and almonds , the start of my ‘on track’ day π -
Fabulous!

Langherhans. I do not know how many weeks you have been going, but I had several plateaus and a bounce – kept coming back and reading inspirational posts, and kept going. As I said above I am very slow -
70 plus people. You’ll be very busy then, maybe too busy to taste too π π
-
Gavin. Sorry to hear you’re disappointed with your results. I can understand, I probably would be a bit but try and take a positive out of it in that you haven’t gained anything. I only had one STS week in my first 8 and I think I was more gutted than last week when I put on! And half an inch off the waist, so something is giving. It really isn’t so easy at times when you can’t just grab a butty and run. I’m going to struggle this weekend, I know it. Making a carb laden buffet for 70+ people πππ. Help meeeeeeeeee! Lol.
However my week after STS I think I had a decent loss if I remember correctly. It all evens out in its own time. Don’t worry ππ»

on 20 Aug 2016 at 08:43 in Welcome to the BSDVerano and all
My mini-goal is really mini. I need to lose .1 of a kg before Monday morning (Australian time ) to crack 6.4 and a stone in the old money. That is 8 weeks, very slow but I am a dreadful dieter and apart from 2.5 stone after baby I have never lost that much, maybe 3 or 4 kilos at at time over several months. I am not one of those who have lost and gained, just gained. Can’t even blame the daughter as I did lose 40 odd years ago
Next goal is 7.9 kg which is 10%, off and then 70 kg 11 stone, THEN 68.3 which would mean I am overweight not obese. – only 151cm, 4.11 and a half. My BS is ok, but my BP is high and I want to get off meds if possible.
Monday will be week 9, day 1.
best wishes to all
-
Pleased to report the loss of another 2 pounds this week (week 35), making total lost 86 pounds. Weight now 9 st 12 lbs meaning I need to lose another 5 pounds to reach my target weight and healthy BMI.
Someone said the other day about not losing too much weight. My answer – the new uniform doesn’t leave much room for weight changes (in either direction)! Definitely one advantage of a fitted uniform. The person in question keeps saying she must do the BSD but somehow never gets round to itπ She live in the USA and kept asking for a photo of me so when one was taken recently I emailed it to her. She was surprised!
-
Just finished all my measurements for week 5 and I am not happy π
Weight stayed the same, in fact everything was pretty much static apart from half an inch off the waist. My work schedule was a nightmare this week and ruined my planning.
