Thank you for your post SunnyB.
I have taken on board what you have said so salad tonight will not have beetroot and sweetcorn but will have olive oil dressing. No avocado because I don’t have any left.
I have written everything down today and am amazed at where the calories go.
Don’t seem to have eaten much but have already used up quite a lot of calories. Think it is time for water boost with a dash of lime to get me through.
I must confess I have been guilty of guessing calories so writing them down has been a big eye opener.

  • Thank you lovely people.
I’m not deliberately straying, I just haven’t got to grips with it yet. I thought being a vegan would make it easy but it does t really. It’s certainly made me realise how much carb/sugar I was consuming
Have decided that for the first week I am going to cut out the processed carbs/ large amounts of chocolate and biscuits and hope that it will ease me in gently. I haven’t started counting calories/carbs yet (to be honest that seems like a minefield to me!) until my body has adjusted to not eating rubbish.
Am on third day and it’s going quite well. Had a couple of wobbles. Have taken your advice and only been angry with myself for minutes then ‘moved on’.

Weighed myself on Monday morning and will do so again next week, so if I have lost weight that may spur me on to continue. Fingers crossed…

    Thanks again

Thank you for the lovely welcome πŸ™‚

I’ve been reading posts thoughout the forum and have decided what am I really waiting for, so have begun today! I’m took all my opening stats, quite horrified really that I’ve done this to myself. I’m inspired by how friendly everybody is and how well people are doing!

Thank you for the suggestions and tips. I’m starting to work up a good plan and shopping list to get me through the next few weeks.

I’m in the system for a hospital referral (optician referred me) so I am getting checked. It was just the flashing light that told me I need to improve my health.

I think I’m going to keep a diary, something to reflect back on when I question why I’m doing this as I know I will at some point!

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

    Tiredx

  • Wow! That is an amazing story and really motivating.

I have been on BSD for about 6 and half weeks. I have lost 10 kilos. However, i am struggling with my sugar levels.

I am hoping to lose another 2-3 in next week and half and then move on to maintenance. Your post is just in time for me.

also, as my eight weeks finish I am travelling for 3 weeks – a real test.

These posts are what are keeping me on the narrow path and I am going to rely on them during my travels.

I agree Janet. Found that posting on here does help. We don’t get face to face support from a slimming club leader or members, so the support of these forums is great. It’s certainly helped me to stay on track and that’s one reason why I’m continuing to post πŸ˜ƒ

Happy to hear your news, and that you’re back on track πŸ˜ƒπŸ’

  • All

Firstly many thanks for tips on 1 cal spray. Will go shopping ASAP. Secondly, I have just come through Waterloo station which smells of pasties. Heavenly, but feckin unhelpful. Drifted into M&S where I picked up the most delicious king prawn and avocado salad which I am now merrily munching on the train, leaving aside the potatoes.

I too am not counting carbs, only calories. I am not eating any grains, sugar etc. My treat is sugar free jelly which I make once every two days. OH bought catering pack for me!

    All good so far…

Well done team – keep up the effort!

    Day 56
    Tuesday September 13 2016

    Weight: 323 pounds

In 56 days I lost almost 20 pounds.

Well, that is quite an achievement. It is september and fattening up the stomach again is very near:

    Trick Or Treat
Thanksgiving (3500 calories the average eaten on that Thursday)
    Christmas
Channukah potato Latkes and chocolate Gelt
    New Year’s Resolution

My Resolution would be to keep LOSING!

About 3 pounds a week is my average.

    So, 12 pounds a month.

September to new years Eve is 4 Months. 4 times 12 = 48 pounds. So, I should be 275 by New Year’s Eve singing Aud Land Zine with Champagne everywhere.

So Then 6 months later in June 2017, I should lose another 75 pounds. Then I will be 200 pounds. A good 20 pounds to go on losing.

So, June I will be doing my shopping for new clothes.
    10+ suits
20 + Thomas Mason Custom Dress Shirts Shirts
12+ Dresses for the Lady of The House
20+ Blouses for The Misses also

Scabal, Vitale Barberis Canonico, J & j Minnis, Loro Piana, John G Hardy, Burberry, Dormeuil, Holland and Sheery would be my top choices.

    I think I like best:
    Holland and Sherry
    H. Lesser and Sons
    Dormeuil
    Burberry
    Scabal

But Vitale Barberis is quite very good for their Fresco fabrics for the dreaded summer heat. Atleast 4 of them would be Fresco and maybe one Seersucker for casual days in summer. The rest would be very conservative windowpane and herringbone style suits.

I never knew it would take planning to buy a new wardrobe. Months of planning. It is like I am planning to move to the moon.
I would say I would do the shopping in Palermo, sicily in July. It would take a good 4-6 weeks to finish after the third fitting for all of the stuff. for both of us. I would be down the sea a few miles in Malta doing some even more serious shopping…… And it ain’t clothing!!!! Atleast they speak English there, but drive on the wrong side of the road!

  • Hi gemgem
Ooh you have had a rough ride, but never mind it’s good you’ve put it behind you. Starting this plan is like learning a new life skill, if we are very fortunate and have planned well we could have a smooth few months to get ourselves well into the swing, but life is rarely like that. Planning is the key. I remember my 5 day 1 st week on this plan I had to do a eight hour mercy dash journey I took breakfast dinner and lunch spoons and forks, I felt so virtuous it was unbelievable sitting at the services eating s prawn salad and others coming out with kfc or whatever. You will have shit happen, and each time you learn something from it, and then it becomes 2 nd nature, and necessary for your health, as it transforms that as well. So good for you, keep posting good and bad make sure you drink plenty and add a little salt to overcome the carb withdrawel symptoms.
Hope your days are more settled.
    Love Jan 😎😎😎

  • Ok, confession time. I fell off the wagon after such an amazing first 10 days!
Alas, work stress – I lost a key member of my team (my 2iC and friend) as they were unexpectedly diagnosed with serious illness and immediate ongoing hospitalisation… And the same week the rest of the team fell one by one like flies as they all got the flu! – the very same week our workload was planned to more than double! So I missed several days of food journalling and I succumbed to not planning my meals ahead because I was working so hard and long and stressed out to the max, and got a sandwich one lunch, a chocolate bar here, a takeaway dinner there, culminating in a friday evening at-work-but-after-everyone-else-had-gone-home panic attack and my dear colleague took me out on the town and seven million drinks later, I woke up the next day with a terrible hangover and no willpower and succumbed to the temptation of a full cooked breakfast complete with eggs bacon sausage toast… So i fell well and truly off the wagon!!! I ADMIT IT!!

Luckily, I only went up 1.5 kg. So technically I’ve still lost 4 kg from my starting weight and I’m clinging to that! All is not lost!

Back on the wagon. I’ve just bought my groceries and planned and packed my meals for tomorrow so… back on the journey!

That’s the thing, isn’t it. Not to just give in and pack up because I fell off slightly! I’m getting back on, my goals remain the same. Dusting myself off from the fall and onwards and downwards as we say!

Thanks SunnyB and Frog for sharing your experiences and thoughts.
I think the 8 weeks seemed liked a great bargain in retrospect; my expectations were hopeful rather than high, so when it worked I was amazed – particularly in that the science made sense too.
I have a nagging feeling though that there’s a bit more to go. My internal fat, as measured by the Tanita, is staying around 13-14% from 15%, so a further drop to a healthy 12% would give me a sense of ‘job done’. And also since sticking to a plan will keep me to more variety of food and a few less calories/carbs, it will do me good anyway.

I think I will do another 8 and meantime will look on the other thread too.

  • This morning 163lb again. Now to hold that and make progress!

Well done Snoop.. steadily going down by the day! Good work!
54 such good news: down again! Love hearing your weigh ins!!
Mental4ever you’re already well into it with a 6lb loss! All of us have had to work out kinks and figure it out as we go, the main thing is you’re doing it! Keep planning, reading, trying the foods, calculating, etc and you’ll keep being rewarded!
I’m a slow loser. .last week I was so diligent with daily exercise and eating up til the end of the weekend, and lost but stumbled Sunday. So I just re-lost that pound this morning. πŸ˜‚

Not to be too personal, but my mini goal is to get through the first few days of my monthly friend totally on plan and try to keep the sodium down. I weigh daily, and it’s discouraging to swell up suddenly even when I am being faithful! Thinking it will hit me in a day or two judging by my crankiness yesterday and savage desire for chocolate. (Had a couple bites of 70% dark chocolate and that did it!) All recorded.

    Have a happy day y’all.

  • There is a range that is ‘healthy weight’ so no reason not to stop only at the upper end of it. Don’t push to get too close to the bottom of that range either, but 10 stone seems comfortable – for your height NHS BMI suggests 8 and half to 11 stone is the healthy range.

    Hi all –

Been off for a bit because of work, but just crossed 50 lbs down mark and SO EXCITED! 38 lbs on the BSD (and the rest before since January 1).

I’ve been following the thread even while off and was so comforted to see everyone’s comments about the post 8 week lull. I’ve been struggling at the same weight for about 2 weeks and got really frustrated by it!

Also had a visit to my dr about three weeks ago. She was thrilled because everything is in the normal range (well, not my BMI but it is much closer!) and she looked at the book, flipped through it, and handed it back to me and said “This is a good diet.” She’s Russian, so that was pretty effusive for her. She said as long as I feel good, keep it up.

But just want to say a big THANK YOU to you all – so much easier to stay on track when you are all sharing your challenges and successes! I think I would have been very discouraged (and I think we all know what that can lead to!) if I hadn’t seen all your posts!

    Have a great day! πŸ™‚

Bye-bye water from muscles! Fat, I’m coming for you next!

  • Thank you, Sunshine-girl!
Yes, I plan to do some toning exercises. I would be interested in seeing your 10 minute routine, if you have a moment!
Thanks for the tip on keeping up the fats, I didn’t realise that they also protect the muscles. πŸ™‚

  • Hi all,

I’m so glad I found this forum and I hope you don’t mind me joining! I am 2.5 weeks in and starting to worry that I might not be able to lose much more because I’m no longer technically ‘overweight’. I’m 5 ft 6 and started at 159 lbs (11 stone 5) and I’m down to 148, though most of the weight loss was in the first week. I’m hoping to get down to 140 (10 stone) by the 4th October when I’m going on holiday. So I’ve got just under 3 weeks left.

I have found it surprisingly easy (after the first few days). I too use ketostix and have found that even the occasional treat at social occasions hasn’t brought me out of ketostis.

I’m so encouraged by all of your stories, knowing that it is possible to maintain the weight loss even if you’re technically at a healthy weight πŸ™‚

  • Orchid is right Nedds Mum, we all stray occasionally – we are only human. The secret is not to waste time beating yourself up about it, but rather, to refocus and move on. I too have found the forum invaluable for support and encouragement when things have got tough and I have really struggled. It is a real boost to be able to have a bit of a rant here and not be judged for messing up and receive kind words and advise – it is empowering.
Anyway, we will hopefully be reading your positive results soon – good luck.

Thanks Jan – day three and I feel fine today. I drank 3 litres of water yesterday and will try to do the same today (not easy – I detest water). I really don’t suffer from migraines – maybe one or two a year so it may have been coincidence or psychosomatic but I will take on board your comments about salt – I actually added it to my dinner last night which I don’t normally do so maybe my body is prompting me anyway! Not feeling hungry and just munching my way through breakfast as I type. I know this sounds perverse but I am actually looking forward to the carb withdrawal – can’t wait for this poison to get the hell out! Will keep you posted on progress πŸ™‚

Beg to differ Minnie, I think the problem items were sweetcorn and beetroot, both of which are high in carbs. Having said that an increase of 1.25lb, could be attributed to something as simple as a little water retention or constipation. There is every chance if you weigh again tomorrow, that small gain would have disappeared, possibly with a little bit extra too.
Don’t be afraid to add in olive oil and avocado, as both contain good fats and fat is important on the BSD. It does help to count both the calories and carbs in everything you consume, but you are right though, to back off while you are on holiday. Just try to broadly stick to the BSD principles, but enjoy a glass or two of wine and relax. Don’t beat yourself up about where you are right now, just go away, enjoy yourself and come back ready to refocus and begin again – we will still be here ready to offer support when you are ready.
Have a great holiday and hope to read some posts from you on your return.

  • Hi Mandoir
Some people do lose more slowly than others – it’s not a competition, but the 10-15% in 8 weeks is possible, people on this forum have done it.
I started at 102 kilos,, and lost 13 kilos in 13 weeks, so slower than others. After a bit of a plateau, I have started paying more attention to BSD principles, and lost 3.9 kilos in a week, so it is do-oable.
I’ve just realised that the 3.9kilos brings me back to the kilo a week, including the 3 week plateau

    With the sudden unexpected gain,
have you checked your scales are accurate (weigh yourself 10-20 times in quick succession and make sure that they are giving consistent results)
Any issues with constipation or time of the month?

With so many berries and regular beans and quinoa, you probably having a lot more carb than others here, so you are likely to lose weight more slowly, but you’ve still achieved a loss that many on WW or slimming world would be agape at!

    Hi Frog,
It looks like you will be about 40% of the way through which is great. I start at 9.30pm so will hopefully see you about 1.00-1.30ish. I need to call Cancer Research today to see what food and water is available and if so at what distances. Ideally I will have their bananas and water rather than carrying that around with me, but I will have my own protein bars and jelly babies with me :-). If I eat well during the day I can hopefully get through the night on that, but it will be different to the recent walks when I have been eating a large snack at 2 hour intervals. I was reading an article last night on running anything above a 10k, and they were talking about carb loading plus topping up on route. The issue I had after the half-marathon was zero carbs left in my legs, so I will follow the carb load for a couple of days (4.5g carb per pound), so that is 700g carbs per day for a few days before, and keep that topped up by eating some carbs every 20 mins over the race. I also need to be sure I get enough electolytes/salt en route. Clearly the walk won’t be as severe are a run, but I want to make sure I finish this and am able to move again the next day! I have booked a hotel room nearby the end for the Saturday and Sunday nights, so if my muscles are aching I can come home Monday morning, or if I am just tired, I can come home during Sunday, but won’t be getting chased out the hotel at midday. Looks like I will be on the BSD 800 for the week afterwards to decarb :-).
On the apps, I was training for 5 and 10k’s 5 years ago (an completed both) and use a website called The Good Run Guide. It is aimed at runners, but I kept my subscription up (you can also use it for free with a more limited access) and have a data store there of runs, weights, measurements etc that have helped me compare to my fitness and shape of 5 years ago. It allows me to plan my training and log what I have done. There is also a targets section and you can set all sorts of short and long term targets which I have found very useful and used it for my target weight and waist measurements for the BSD. My next target is a park run, so I need to think about what to do for that.
Anyhow – back to sending out emails to friends for sponsorship!

I’ve previously lost a lot of weight doing 5:2, but thought I’d give BSD a go for a change! I’m 41 & would love to lose 31 pounds. I am a definite carb addict – bread & wine mainly so have gone cold turkey on both. I’m planning on staying alcohol free for the full eight weeks.

Hi Ruth – sorry to hear that your weight has bee stuck for a bit – are you eating enough fat if you’re still hungry?
The keto calculator thing suggested that I should be aiming for around 50g a day – I’m fine with going for full fat dairy, but still tend to be really cautious with olive oil and choosing the leanest of lean when I buy meat.
Froglet did indeed get a healthy share of chicken!

Morning Jan. I’ve got one of the tiny pencil sharpener type spiralisers – great for carrot cucumber and courgette, but a bit limited.
Lynne recommended a cuisique spiralizer (it doesnt come with a guarantee the you’ll do as well as Lynne!)

    day 1 – Lost 0.4 kilos
    day 2 – Lost 0.7 kilos
    day 3 – Lost 0.5 kilos
    day 4 – Lost 0.5 kilos
    day 5 – Lost 0.6 kilos
    day 6 – Gained 0.2 kilos (DDCC)
day 7 – Lost 1.4 kilos!!!! (have pooed all the bloody DDCC lentils and beans!)

and 17 kilos altogether since I started BSD in May
FatSecret has a very simple formula that divides the amount to your target by the amount since your last weigh in.
Apparently, if I continue to lose 1.4 kilo a day, I will reach my target in 3 weeks
    – a bit unlikely, I won;t hold my breath, but it amused me!

Have been very quiet of late as had no success to report.
Yesterday I had managed to get to 10 10 3/4. Don’t forget the 3/4, very important when you only lose slowly.
Had a salad for dinner as it was hot. This morning scales said I was back up to 10.12 which is about where I started. Salad consisted of lettuce,rocket,tomato,1/2 avocado, 2 small slices smoked salmon, some sweetcorn, olive oil dressing and beetroot.
Didn’t calorie count it as I bought it was all healthy.
    BIG MISTAKE
Think it probably was the avocado and the olive oil that did it although I thought they were both good.
Will have to work out calories for everything I fear.
Am going on holiday on Saturday so think I will have to put this to bed until I return in October.
Feeling a bit down but will try to improve on my return.
Well done all of you with success stories. It is very interesting to read your posts and you are all so very supportive.
Feeling a bit of a wimp but will focus on your successes and hope some of it will rub off on me.

  • Whatever it is you’re doing, 54andfatnomore, it’s obviously working!

mental4ever, I went up a bit on one day and I’ve stayed the same on quite a few. But the overall trend is down. Not as fast as 54, but faster than any other diet I’ve tried and without feeling hungry or deprived. So, all positive really. Just be patient. There are quite a few ‘slow losers’ on this forum. Some people are just better (or worse, depending on how you look at it) at storing calories genetically or epigenetically (look up Dutch Winter Baby Syndrome for an extreme example). So long as you stick to the calories, cut the carbs and find some time to be active (my big failing), it’s bound to happen eventually, whether you follow the plan or free-range, like 54. Like you, I’ve occasionally left food because I was too full. Just make sure you eat the right things to stay healthy. Good luck, and keep posting. The support here is fantastic: inspiring and motivating.
