  • My new fave veg is fennel. I’ve had it sliced in salad with halloumi, roasted it with garlic and had it with salmon in five spice (look up the Jamie recipe – easy and tasty) and even dropped a slice or two in miso for variety. This assumes that you like aniseed. And I have noticed that I have developed a taste for stronger flavours since going on BSD. It’s also selling off in Morrisons at the moment.

Next challenge – celeriac. I mixed some with cauliflower to top a shepherd’s pie – a bit dull to be honest.

  • Hi Jan
    I’m a maintenance loser I’m afraid!
Weighed in this morning at 60.1kg, my goal was 63kg!
I’ve got to figure out a way to stop losing without increasing my sugar intake.
I’ve increased my good carbs and fats, but obviously not enough yet!😀

Are you able to get rid of all the temptation in your cupboards, that’s what I did.
    Cheers
    Linda

  • I had cabbage fried in butter with bacon last night along with a chicken breast. Do you like broccoli? I am planning a cauliflower and broccoli cheese. I have to admit I love aubergines. If you bake them in the oven with a little oil smeared oven them they turn into delicious mushiness. No sponginess at all. Ooh now I want aubergine…..

This morning I have lost 3.5 pounds in one day! Another 2 to go and that pesky holiday weight will be gone! It seems pasta (and wine) piles on the pounds quickly but hopefully it will go as quickly.

  • PS. Where do you start ….cont’d

Just a note to say that I have started by word of mouth. The friends we went out with on Friday & other friends who visited us on Monday all had the BSD ‘talk’ when they remarked about their weigh and the problems they had trying to lose it.

I will be contacting our friends in London on Friday to see how her diet is going as she started Weightwatchers last Friday. May get a little competition going to compare our weekly weight loss. 😀😀😀

NB. Ordered my BSD recipe book and cannot wait to see what goodies it containes.

Hi Canidoit ( yes you can)

Thanks for your sympathy – really appreciated it – I agree staying away from ‘the demon drink’ must be the way for me to go, the food was amazing but more carbs than I have had since 1 October and I can honestly feel the difference, the yearning to snack is increasing as the evening goes on, I have just had two of the amazing chickpea crackers that Izzy on another board had recommended making, and I have GOT to stop eating now, lots of water and a mug of tea I think! ….ok I’ll go and get the water now.

Day three for us & going to bed last night we both felt achy cold & shivery. I was worse when in the middle of the night I had stomach ache & felt as though I was going to start throwing up but after having hot & cold sweats didn’t! I suspect our very beany supper of Chilli Chickpeas didn’t suit us. This morning we are both still feeling chilly tired & slightly achy & for me my legs are really sore.
I suppose this might be the carb flu other people have written about?
For breakfast I think we will have yoghurt & berries to try to soothe our stomachs & for supper try salmon & some vegetables. We certainly don’t want a repeat of last night!

  • Got my first session this morning and am really looking forward to it. I hope she’s gentle with me as I have a client meeting this afternoon and would like to be able to move without them taking the mickey too much.

Warning: the following is not advisable.
I was sat in the rugby club (drinking fizzy water!) on Monday evening and mentioned that I’d lost nearly three stone. They suggested that I see what the difference really means. So I took an old rucksack and filled it with 15kg of weights wrapped in towels and went for my normal lap (about 4000 steps and 14 Fitbit flights of stairs). I can normally whiz around it just a bit out of breath and light sweating. With the weights on I was panting like an old steam engine and the sweat poured from me, but this was only the weight I was carrying around less than three months ago!

It really brought it home to me – but I won’t be making it part of my normal routine!

  • DAY 2 of 7

    Yesterday:
    Calories 780
    Carbs 22g

No weight loss today! I’m a little relieved that my weight hasn’t dropped again but hope it does tomorrow!

Well all seems to be well after day 1 let’s hope day 2 is just as good.

I need to have a really good look at my menus as they’re starting to get very repetitive! Last nights cauliflower was roasted with yogurt and indian spices …. mmm … well not quite as bad as the ‘actifried’ charred leather effort but not really much better. Going back to steamed and mashed …. if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!!

Going to try Frog’s courgetti with anchovies and pine nuts tonight and maybe some cabbage!! Would really love some ideas for interesting vegetables. Not sure I’m quite ready for aubergine yet but am working up to it!

    Have a good day!

Oh Pat I feel for you. I haven’t faced any “occasions” yet but I will at the weekend. I think you did well and you are still on track by resuming tomorrow. I hope I will too. I think it may be best for me not to have a drink there at all! I really don’t want to spoil things cos I know how hard it would be for me to get back on track.
I’m not having problems sleeping by the way. 😊

Well I went back for my results today of my HBA1c and slightly up from 38 to 40, but still not a Diabetic. YIPEEEE. And at last my Doctor has taken me off the Diabetic register and marked my record as Diabetes resolved. He also thinks I’m amazing which I’m not, I just took control with the help of this Fantastic book and no help from the NHS or Doctors. He is now recommending Michael’s book to everyone he sees because of me – Very Proud and I hope he sells it to them and they also get the results I have and so many others on this forum have.

Good luck to everyone on their journey, its completely changed me for the better in so many ways 🙂

    Hi Roma,
Are you doing any exercise? I have been walking for 30 mins 5 times a week and that helps a bit. Swimming also helps if that is something you enjoy. My weight loss is also slow. I have been on the BSD for two weeks and so far I have lost around 2lb and an inch off my waist. I am not worried, though, because I probably need to lose around 28lb and I don’t think it comes off quite so quickly when you are older, like me. (I am 70 in Nov).

Just one minor observation. I inadvertently bought nuts and raisins instead of mixed nuts and was stunned by the carbs in raisins – 20g in an ounce. I donated them to number 2 son!

    Hi Linda

Itinerary as explained to my mates here is: shopping, swimming, walking on the beach, shopping, swimming walking on the beach. I am a coastal girl but live in the mountains in the middle of the land now so I miss the edge. It should be warm too right, but not overly as it will be for you soon! Over the years I have spent quite a bit of time in Sydney, one of the best harbours in the world. Both my sister and my daughter have lived there.

How are your friends and family reacting to the new you, how are you reacting to the new you? Sometimes the lightness is a curious thing huh?

That’s funny living with the carb eaters.
So started reboot yesterday, 790/38 weigh in today lost .8 kilo, delighted excellent start to the week, mind you I know where it’s all gone, bathroom trips +++++++++++ one way to get the steps up on my UP, I’m duelling with lucky at the mo, hopefully she’s coming back on board she said. Missed her sense of humour.

Hope all of your days will go well also.

    Love Jan 😊

    Way to go Mommy!
    You’ve started, that’s half the battle😀
Don’t forget to drink lots of water and weigh and measure all your food to try and keep under 50g carbs per day. Be careful of apples as they are particularly high.
    Cheers

Hi Billingebabe and all, away until the end of the month and things are much harder than being at home. Cutting out the sweet stuff and trying to cut down on carbs. Have a constant pain in my foot like a nerve pain on top of my foot. Bit frightening…..all though feeling better in myself.

Keep going you are all sounding so positive!

  • Hi frog

Never mind luvvy, it’s much harder I’ve found beyond the first lot of eight weeks, to avoid everything, I always remember captainlynnes post of her weight loss journey, and beyond the first eight weeks, she lost a steady 1-2 lbs a week, she lost over 90 lbs like that, I had a choc hobnob spontaneously, didn’t mean to, but opened the cup cupboard to make tea and bingo there they were, I cannot prepare my mind it seems for the unexpected, I also had 2 planned chocolates in the eve, much to creamy and sweet.

But well done on the smaller clothes, doesn’t it feel so good. So do you have a aim for this week. Keep at it, you know you love it. 😊😊😊👏👏👏😊😊😊

  • Morning all you lovely people, how is it going?? Well done Randam 5lb off, that is a result. I’ve weighed in 3.5lb less this morning which is a wonderful feeling.
Headache gone too which is a relief!! agree with Victorir, sleep pattern has been slightly disrupted. Not really hungry this morning so I’m starting with a good strong coffee and milk from my allowance and yogurt and fruit for lunch so I can enjoy a lovely dinner…..lots of healthy things in the fridge.
Well done guys lets keep each other going!! Xxx

Another pound off this morning, and 40.1% on the body fat measure. Yesterday’s slightly experimental porridge was excellent if quite carby, and at 340 calories quite a chunk of the days 800, very filling and I didn’t eat it until after 12:00pm. My protein shake which I had just before and after badminton was another 210 calories, the remaining 250 ish were a chicken breast salad, as an afternoon tea. Drinks were herbal tea, water and a sparkling water in the evening.

morning my lovelies. Well last night we didn’t actually have stuffed courgette as I started making a batch of almond flour crackers and didn’t have time. What we did have was pork mince bolognaise made with celery, onion, pepper, chilli and a left over carrot. with some chopped fried courgette and a few crackers, it was yummy.

The crackers are my best batch yet – I added onion salt and fajita seasoning to the mix yummy yum.

so today I have a day off work because I have my hospital appointment so we will see what they say about my tests and hopefully they can help me with my symptoms. It means I get a lazy start to my day and a leisurely afternoon 🙂

Soon I’m going to have a shower and then I think I will make almond flour pancakes for breakfast, take my son to the childminder, go for my appointment, get some food shopping on the way home. Then I have my son’s birthday presents to wrap as he is FOUR today! no idea where the time went. Then I plan to try to tidy my van a bit before getting my son home again.

lunch might be soup or crackers, Dinner is going to be roast chicken, I will probably have mine with salad I think.

  • Glad to see you’ve joined us over here Tizzie! Good luck with this weeks challenge.

Phlebas, welcome ! Well done on your weight loss so far … great. Maybe trying to stick to less than 30g of carbs is a bit ambitious and I’m not sure about the wisdom of that. Maybe you should aim for 30g and if you go under then no problem. 30 may just be more sustainable unless of course that’s what you’ve been doing for the last five weeks.

Anyway good to have you here and good luck!

  • Welcome back Tizzie. If 50g of carbs works for you that’s great. You can always go lower if you stop losing.

Welcome phlebas. 29lbs in four weeks is great and there is a chance you may hit a plateau but it may just be that your body is settling down to your new regime. A pound is a pound and it’s in the right direction! How many carbs gave you averaged over the last five weeks? I may be wrong but seems to me that aiming for less than 30g a day may be putting too much pressure on yourself and may not be wise. Why don’t you aim for 30g and if you go less on a few days fine?

  • JulesM
I used to practice Yoga with my children many year ago, our instructor after a few months showed us the stance you mention above, we started of using a wall for support, most of us ended up in a heap, head first on the floor, definitely advance? but fun to try? Or was I younger fitter and a bit more stupid then?

  • Morning everyone… So I stood on the scales just now

    5lbs off!!! In two days!!!

Yes I know it’s water.. But those 5lbs are not going back on again!
    What a boost!
I’ve not had headaches.. But I have had the sleep problem Victorir…..although that could also be down to the fact I’m moving house next Weds … Hahahaha!

Well done everyone so far… Starting this is the hardest part,
and thanks for being on this thread/forum… I echo everyone’s comments… Great bunch of people xx .

  • Frog ….. what’s a few glasses of wine and canapés amongst friends!!!
We have to live with the ‘carb’ eaters and joining in with them now and again does no harm. It’s just being one of them that’s not too clever!! What is your carb level for the new challenge? You are joining us??

Talking about which just checked out future learn WOW WOW WOW! That’s going to keep me occupied for a while! Have signed up for a Spanish course. I did an OU Spanish course 10 years ago and then was about to start the higher course when I took ill. Would just like to get back into it and this looks ideal. So thank you, thank you, thank you! Will be checking out the website again later today!!!

Tizzie great weight loss and good to have you joining us on our second ‘week’ challenge.

So hard today went out to lunch in Sydney for Good Food month lunch ( booked ages ago) I worked out everything I was going to eat and drink but succumbed to a glass of bubbles – got home and I just want to eat something, first time I have felt the need since I started this, probably because I’ve eaten more carbs today! Never mind back to normal tomorrow and I’ll just have to suffer ‘hunger/carb’ feelings this evening! But boy would I like another glass of and some chocolate – mm – sorry I will behave now, thank goodness we are all in this together!

    21lbs in 5 weeks.

Hoping for more next week, it is hard to keep motivated on 800 calories a day when you are not losing weight.

  • Good morning all! The duck sounds delicious!
Agree with planning ahead! Stops grabbing something carby.
It’s great on here, all the supportive comments and tips. Well done everyone, we can pull this off! Think once we are into the second week we will really be feeling this is working and we can do it the whole way through!
I did the exercise bike routine from in the book yesterday too, 10 mins with one 10sec sprint, was good.
Is anyone else not sleeping well since starting? X

Which Spiralizer did you have? I’ve got a salter but have just bought the OXO good grips. Hope it will be ok.

My cooking lately seems to have gone down the pan!

A few days ago I ‘actifried’ cauliflower … huge mistake ended up with a few charred bits of leather! Last night roasted cauliflower with yogurt and Indian spices…. ugghh! So giving cauliflower a miss for a while and next time will just steam it and mash with something!!

Will definitely try your cougetti just need some variation!

What BLOCK? Not the fixi it up and hock it off block is it?
Keep strong old frog, week 6 is a grand achievement and worth the work. I thought to give it a go for a few weeks to see and just stayed on…Feeling great now and I know I have the tools to keep on the straight and narrow. The only bad day I had was day three when the carb flu thing was full on, however I was lucky next day, it went and stayed away. So many things improved almost Stat that it is incredible. Now when I read the threads of newbies to this site I smile and nod sagely.

Off now to practice my best Ostray-yun ack-scent so they will let me back in “no worries.”

  • I fancy another challenge. Definitely helps to focus on a week at a time.
Keeping my carbs at 50 as still working for me although quite often have fewer
Weight loss target 3.5lbs, half a pound a day seems possible if I stick to plan. Hormones might have their say this next week or 2 though!
    good luck (planning) everyone.
