Got everything crossed for you Nysilver but I know you’ll get the results you’ve worked so hard for!
Kathy54 – that’s fantastic! My goal eventually I hope, although my BS is still higher than yours. I’ve been type 2 since 2008 ( it’s in my family) but even if I can reduce to 1 metformin a day, the BSD will have been so worth it!
We’re all BSD veterans now, we’ve all achieved so much and we’re all going to stay well and (hopefully) diabetes free – or at least well controlled! -
Morning all π
I had forgotten about the breakfast bars I made at the weekend, so I’ve just had one of those for my breakfast. I have soup for my lunch and I’m making courgetti bake for dinner π
Today should be a quick day. I have a job planned for the morning that will take up most of my available time, then I have a two hour meeting – where I think lunch is provided but I managed to avoid it last time. I’ll eat my soup before I go in and just drink cups of tea. Then there will only be a few hours left of work and my working week will be over.
Tomorrow I’m getting my eyes tested and then I’m meeting my niece to spend a little time with her. She is nursing a broken heart π

*waves* from Italy
Quick check in. Had breakfast yesterday at a Wetherspoons at Heathrow. Egg, bacon, baked beans, mushrooms and tomato. Ignored sausage and said without the rosti (or toast as substitute)
Avoided the ‘snack’ on the plane – ham croissant and orange juice.Friends amazed at weight loss and how much better I can walk around. Asked what I can eat and did I want to go to supermarket π
Bought sliced cooked meats and cheeses. Last night they had a veg curry with couscous. I ate Mortadella, Gorgonzola with mascarpone and cherry tomatoes. Yum!
Today is a public holiday and apparently we’re visiting a famous gelato shopπ± Friends say he might have sugar-free! Will let you know later.

Hi Nysilver,

Well done you! The benefits of this new way of eating and THINKING will keep you positive. With age comes wisdom…here’s a gem for you as a tip: my daughter is 41 years old, when she thinks back to her childhood she recalls me always being on a diet and the rigors that came with that. Make better memories for your little people, this is far better than any “diet,” it’s a license for a healthy life.
This week I read a lovely sentence which hit home for me. “Do it because you love your body, not because you hate it.”
Be kind to yourself, the bad patch you had is now behind you, onwards and upwards, ooops, no, when it comes to scales DOWNWARDS please.
I miscounted today because time has passed so quickly I have completed 12 weeks. The change in my health is amazing.Nettle

Good afternoon ;
Our whole family has had a complete overhaul with me and my partner doing the BSD , he got type 2 diabetes after we had our second child in 2013 and his sugar gradually went up to 19-20 and was erratic even on metformin : he now goes to the gym 5 days a week after work and his sugars are around 4-6 depending what time of the day he tests ! He has lost 8 kg as well since starting .
Our little ones have always been better eaters than us fruit and veg wise but it’s nice for me and the 2.5 year old to sit together at morning tea and lunch and try new things ! She loves cruskits with hummus and cherry tomatoes as does my 8 month old slobbering away on the cruskits with her little toothy pegs coming through ! my 5 year old is at school but has a really well packed balanced lunch to keep her going for the day ! At her school at 10 am the whole school stops what they are doing in class and sit down together to have fruit snack / veggie snack ; it’s apart of the get healthy kids program they are doing and has become a state wide thing !Bacon, eggs and mushrooms ππdrool ; love that stuff same as you , although I have been smashing the kebabs at lunch with pieces of zucchini , haloumi cheese ; capsicum and mushrooms ; they are Devine and addictive ; I have to find something else as my favourite soon though haha !
I wonder how many people would be following you sniffing your aftershave haha funny thought !! Mmmmm bacon !Hope your having a great day today :
Xx bianca

Hi, I’m just starting my 2nd week of the BSD and I would like to get a protein shake for when I’m on the run and to stop me punching the kids’ lunches π Can anyone recommend a good one (with good macro / micro nutritional values) in Australia? TIA

Welcome back Just do it!

Hi Grammie! Good to see you on the posts. The first couple of days can be hard — I remember being SO hungry in the first week! It gets much better as you go forward. You can always find support here on the posts — best wishes for your success!

Thank you for your reply !
Being here is super encouraging seeing so many people on the same path to help control or rid of their diabetes and also to loose weight that are heading that direction if action wasn’t taken ASAP !
Congrats to you sticking to it for 7 weeks ; I am planning to stick with it same as you πHope your having a great day !

Actually, you can have chocolate on the BSD! Just have the good kind: dark, 72-85 percent, and not too much! It’s pretty low carb and it’s good for you!π and, from 13 weeks vantage point, I can assure you there is chocolate in your future! I am finding it possible now to eat a few more of my favorite things and am still slowly losing weight. I struggled a bit in the first six weeks, but the habit of eating less is getting stronger everyday and even when I blow it (it just happens!) I am able to get right back to it the next day. That seems to be the key — just start back up again. Do it badly. Do it kicking and screaming. But just do it! I am proof it works brilliantly and I was no poster-child for doing it perfectlyπ Hang in there!

Thanks weighin next Monday all good for now
-
Did fine all day. Now almost bedtime and I’m starving , even though had 1/2 cup of yougart. I really want to make this work.
-
Thank you SkyWalker! but I’m certainly not depriving myself, just changing a bad habit – I mean a whole packet of Choc Mint biscs in a few hours in not good. I’m thriving on new regime and not missing ‘rubbish’ at all.
Just wondering – I’ve seen that you post a lot, are you a member of the ‘team’ or just a poster like the rest of us? -
Thank RozyDozy and SkyWalker. Yes, the BSD is really easy to get back into again and in just one day I’ve lost half the weight I put back on during my two week blip, amazing. My carb addiction is clearly still alive and kicking but with time I’m sure I will conquer it or at least keep it under better control.
-
Sounds like you are being very hard on yourself. There is room for an odd piece of dark choc on 800 cal and 30 gm carbs and even an odd crispbread and even potato has some fibre. A new habit has to be sustainable or we can drop back into the old ways. We need to change the foods we eat not just deny ourselves everything. Good luck with the will power, you are sounding very tough .
-
I think we just have to patient because if we continue to eat this way the weight will have to come off. We didn’t gain weight over night and we want lose it over night. It is slow but steady. The weight might be slow but the health benefits are fast and that is what’s important.
-
I’m nearly at the end of my 4th week. I started this because I wanted to break the habit of not eating sweet things. I think I’ve done that because I haven’t had chocolate, biscuits, cake, ice cream, low fat stuff, nor bread, pasta or potatoes. I haven’t weighed myself but clothes are looser. I can safely walk down confectionery and biscuit aisles without buying. I will continue this for at least 8 weeks and then continue with the M diet. Good luck everyone
-
Oh, I’m so sorry this happened to you. Will be interested in hearing if you lose the weight more quickly this time. My thinking? This “fall” disrupted your body’s momentum, and maybe it will realize that this “new” weight doesn’t belong. Here’s hoping! You did it before, you can do it again! I have to ask…just one piece of cake ruined it? I’m wondering if carbs are so dangerous that I won’t be able to eat any again? I’m not sure I would want a life without some carbs…Someone – PLEASE – reassure me this isn’t the case…PLEASE!!! I’m sticking to the diet by telling myself that someday I WILL be able to eat a chocolate bar again.

on 1 Jun 2016 at 23:22 in Starting the BSDThis may sound horrible, but I felt very happy to hear of the problems and possible solutions offered. I, too, am rarely hungry, but dang it, I miss chocolate and bread. I’ve just finished my first week to a 2 kilogram loss of weight. I want it to come off faster as I have become MUCH more active and have cut my caloric intake to below 800 calories a day – in fact, some days below 500 calories. I have determined that I MUST increase my water intake…starting as soon as I finish writing this. I suppose the more weight you need to lose, the faster it comes off? Maybe my metabolism is slow to change? Baristagirls, how lucky you are to have your bloods falling in the normal range! Believe me, I plan to get mine down and I am planning to follow the 5:2 plan if I ever get to my ideal weight. Sigh…Has anyone else ever felt it was falling off too slowly? Am I simply too impatient?
-
Me too ! I lost a lot in the first three days, but ever since (I’ve just finished week two) I’ve been see-sawing around the same weight – but my trousers are lots looser, and I’m wearing tops that were previously too tight.
I was away for a week, but the friend I was staying with was great at cooking without carbs. We ate out on my birthday, and I did have a roast potato and a glass of wine, but the day overall was around 100 calories and within 50g of carbs, so not wildly excessive.
I’m not overly concerned, but it is frustrating, -
Breakfast: smoothie with a few frozen strawberries, tablespoon of Greek yoghurt, chia seeds, water and tablespoon of almond butter – so nice, like a strawberry milk shake! (Not sure is it as filling As eggs for breakfast though)
Lunch: sauerkraut and tin of mackerel
Dinner: made the cauliflower rice from the book but it was a bit weird.. mixed with spices and some chopped up cheese and small tin of chickpeasAnd one small piece of 85% chocolate π Not having this everyday but once in a while and even small piece is soooo worth itππ

Hi Aussie chick 88
I am up that early but because of work, but you are up because you love your kids, that’s great.Love the way you are getting your child to eat healthy with you.
What’s your favourite meal so far?
I still love my bacon egg and mushrooms, either as a mixed grill or mixed up in an omelet.
If there was an aftershave that smelt of bacon, I couldn’t resist.
It would definately be swooning time.Keep blogging, keep losing, keep running after the 2.5 year old. Keep happy
Love luica

Lucia ;
I have breakfast around 5 am when I am up with the baby :
Small snack like the chopped veggies and dip around 10am encouraging my 2.5 year old to eat healthy snack for morning tea ,
Lunch is around 2pm
Dinner with the kids 6pm
All still within 800 calories a day π

on 1 Jun 2016 at 22:48 in Welcome to the BSDHey all ,
Hope you are all going well and soldiering on with your new healthy life style changes on BSD π
Just wanted to pass on some info for those who suffer from water retention like myself and incredible moods and pms symptoms including painful ovulation and periods : I drink 2-3 litres water a day and still hold a lot of water ; that is until I talked to my pharmacist at the discount chemist regarding my problems two weeks ago !
They have given me natural products that have worked absolute magic and settled both down so much that I really have to share to help someone else out there that is suffering and no longer need to ! I am in Australia though I am sure you would have similar at your chemist where ever you are in the world !
Carusoβs natural health fluid away tablets β
Removal of excess water caused by fluid retention; bloating and puffiness ; joint stiffness and pain due to swelling !
I take one or two tablets a day and will never look back . Natural ingredients include dandelion, celery seed and vitamin b6 .
Second :
BCNβS Saffron capsules 2 x a day morning and night !
This is so incredible and has helped with the pms and mood swings so much that I no longer want to curl up in a ball away from the world every month !!!
I hope that if you are suffering from this please look into these natural ways to get back on track and not suffer any longer .My water intake is still 2.5 to 3 litres a day
So far lost to date 8.3 kg in 3 weeks since starting BSDBianca

I’m tucked up in bed watching Mr Magoriums Wonder Emporium. I like a kids movie sometimes. I’ve also forgotten to take pancake batter out of the freezer again so it will be more yoghurt or maybe eggs for breakfast lol.
My husband has been experimenting with different types of milk, and I have discovered I quite like almond milk, so next time I fancy a hot chocolate I’m going to see if it works with that. A lot less calories than normal milk and lower in carbs too.
Well I’ve nothing else to report today so I’m off to watch the mooooovie. Night all, see you tomorrow!

Lucia I am having three meals a day and no snacking.
-
We sympathise here and have been in that situation too. My OH Mum went into hospital this morning and is 91 so catering could be tricky for a while as we are 160 miles away at home. The BSD works and we all learn the lessons of a derailment but after all, it’s only food and we can master our intakes. Good luck and hope all goes well and Oops, I had a Jaffa cake today and milk in my tea! Doh!
-
Now you know the downfalls I’m sure you will do great this time around π
Good Luck!

Hi Switzerland,
Well, I suppose I should take one for the team.
I will force myself to go each weekend to mr handsome.
He has a certain way of caressssing the fruit with his hands.
He gently squeezes the fruit to see if they are fresh enough.
Sigh”…………………………It’s such a difficult task you set before me……..
If onlyI could get him to dip into the pond like mr d’arcy…….
Swoon………. Swoon………Just going for a cold shower…ππππππππ

What a good idea to get the family involved.

I could never do hoola hoop as I would get a “stitch” in my side; painful.
-
Hi Lucia,
Your next challenge – if you choose to accept it – is to enjoy going to the fruit and veggie shop. It’s a difficult mission as there’s all of the healthy fruit and veggies and then there’s the cute dude working in the shop. (Gee, I hope it was you commenting on the cute person working there).Food item that I’ve tried since starting the BSD – cocoa nibs. Now I know that nothing will ever take the place of the chocolate that I’m addicted to BUT cocoa nibs certainly take away the cravings.
-
Hey Lucia ,
Something new I have tried being on BSD –
White bean mash instead of mash potatoes as a side with chicken and steam broccoli and beans
1 can cannellini beans washed and drained put aside
Brown some chopped shallots and garlic
Add beans and start to mash with adding a little veggie stock until creamy !
Delicious and serves two side dishes !Also for a snack I like to have a couple of carrots/celery/cucumber/ capsicum slices with a tablespoon of hummus or avocado dip to munch on
Yet to try quinoa , sounds interesting ! I would probably grout the tiles if I had to eat that wet cement again (a bit of Greek yoghurt with 2 tbs of ground flaxseed it set like cement within 2 mins leaving on the bench haha rated like gritty sand so won’t do that again π
Hope you have a wonderful day !
Xx

Scandigirl ;
Congratulations for not giving up and keeping on going !! That is absolutely wonderful to hear not only about there being so much less of you now but your blood sugar too ! Well done !! Keep it up ; you and every one on here are so inspiring and it’s so nice to be apart of this journey with you all π -
Hi JaneJ
Day three I felt so crook I thought I’d have to flag the plan due to other health considerations. Day four was a dramatic change, I felt great and have since. Day 77 today and it has flown by. My weight loss has been steady, 10kg, not as great as many others on this plan, but the best result I have had in my 50 odd years of trying them all. The feeling of wellbeing is amazing, the knowledge that we gain about carbs is liberating. A few more weeks and I am going over to 5:2, love having the back up plan. People, are asking how it happened now…and want to get the book STAT.
Two weeks in Nicky72, it’s worth it I can tell you that.

Hear from me tomorrow. -
Hello – staggered over the 8 week line on Monday morning. 21lbs lost and much lower blood sugar readings. Had my 6 month endocrinologist appointment today. BP down, pulse rate down and now waiting for my blood work results later this week. Feeling very hopeful, but some communal finger crossing would be much appreciated!!

Here goes my numbers for today. Calories 1098.50 Carbs 71.57 drink 8 water 5 coffee and a peppermint tea. Exercise: a Pilates Class, a Body Pump Class and a 4 mile dog walk. I am not hungry. I need to make better choices. The beefburger pattie was more calories that I expected. I didn’t have the burger roll.
-
Hi JaneJ. Keep going! It does get easier. It just takes abit of planning. I find weighing myself every other day helps keep my motivation up as well. I’m only on week 2 but I feel a lot better in myself. You can do it!!! π x

on 1 Jun 2016 at 20:31 in Starting the BSDHi Baristamum
Breathe. Don’t panic. This feeling will pass, an alien feeling for me is a rumbling tum, it used to be full all the time I guess. it doesn’t happen often but I now embrace it with a smile and think I CAN WAIT A BIT LONGER for food. No knee jerk reaction of grazing the pantry. Talk about liberating. My weakness was potato crisps, my thin man can eat them as much as he likes in front of me now and I am not moved. I did perceive that often when I used to grab a bag my body was searching for salt not carbs….so if I feel that slight urge I take a pinch of salt on my tongue. Works a treat for me. The odd pinch in a glass of water is OK too. I am on week 11 of the 8, I continued because it has worked so well for me, the well being is as great as the weight loss. Once I get to where I want to be in about 5kg I know I will be OK on 5:2. Hang in there girl…it’s well worth it. All power to 9 year old wisdom for issuing a caution.

You’re right, I don’t want diabetes and neither do I want to go near the prediabetic range either!
Yes, I suppose it must be the carb addiction suddenly rearing its head!! I have just run a deep bath and am going to take a book…….and a babybel cheddar. I have enough calories left for that. Will take the telephone as well. Oh yes, I am also just going to run up and down the stairs a few times first. Trying to introduce a bit of exercise. Hopefully tomorrow will be better -
No need to worry, get straight back on the wagon. NO MORE BREAD!
You can do it.

As Imogen says, treat yourself another way – warm bath with candles, little walk round the block to blow cobwebs away. Early night with a book and the radio.
It’s your carb addiction trying to control you – you can kick it into touch.
That’s an idea – beat a cushion to death!
Good luck!!!
