Sadly yes I can believe it. I predict it will be getting on for another decade, before the government and the NHS catches up and accepts the science behind the BSD way of thinking. Yes, the proof is right there in front of them already, but it isn’t yet at a level that they can no longer keep denying the evidence, so meanwhile the vast majority of professionals and public, will go on using the worthless and defunct ethos of the past.

A lot depends on your starting weight – the less you have to lose the less you lose each week. Someone who is heavier needs more calories in every movement and resting so 800 cal input will mean a bigger gap between their needs and their food and it is the deficit that matters.

So if my body needs 3000 cal to move and be etc and I only give it 800 then it has to use up 2200 cal from stored fat etc

A smaller body that needs 2000 cal a day to move and be etc given 800 cal will only use 1200 cal from stored fat.

1 kg of weight loss in a week needs daily deficit of 1000 calories.

And that is all before the slight variation in metabolism, exercise, portion sizes and cheat moments….

I am filling 3 x 1 litre bottles of water each morning which I have to drink through the day.
As for alcohol – I have just wobbled with a glass of red wine (it is on the Mediterranean lifestyle… not much of an excuse but…)

Unfortunately I am in hospital waiting for a heart bypass op. I started the Fast 800 in Jan losing 42lbs but have since carried on the bsd way losing so far in excess of 6 stone. But my diet is under threat from short sighted NHS dieticians. They make the meal plans for the whole hospital. The choices for meals are bizarre consisting of 80% carbs. Potatoes, rice, pasta and so much bread you could stock a bakery aisle in Tesco. I had to make my choice for meals for tomorrow, today, out of around 50 to 60 choices, the only thing that suited the bsd diet was an apple. Unbelievable. The breakfast choices are toast and jam(or marmalade) and cereals. All the ones with sugar. I asked for a yoghurt, and was given a muller one. So I asked if I could talk to a dietician and was refused, but the catering manager came to see me and and I explained about the BSD and he reassured me that I can mix and match items to get a decent menu. He does have access to the dieticians and mentioned what I said and got the reply that the BSD diet is a lifestyle choice. Can you believe that.

My sentiments exactly about Madge. Her stuff up to and including Erotica was the best. Wasn’t much of a fan of Frozen/Music/Ray of Light era, she redeemed herself ever so slightly with Confessions on a Dancefloor.

Yes old woman, I’ll let you *smiles sweetly*

    Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo fighting talk…

Off to make chickpea wraps. Pray for me. Or I’m having a naan bread with it. I will. I will HAVE a naan bread with it.

Day 16 – I woke up early this morning so I got on the treadmill for 20 mins, it’s not much but I thought it was better than nothing. I stuck to my near 800 cals yesterday – 856 cals, which is good for me. I’m not having an issue with staying under my carb limit but I am having an issue for sticking to my 800 cals. My goal this week is to try to keep to this as much as possible.

TOM is starting this week and I’m not looking froward to it. Last time I was doing low carb and I got them, it was longer and more painful. I’m dreading it so much. I’m also dreading the cravings… I tried to weigh in yesterday but my water weight is already there. I’m hoping this means a really good loss for next week. πŸ™‚

Napangardi I NEED to record everything or I don’t stay accountable. I have a Garmin that tells me my fitness and steps, and I use MyFitnessPal or a diary to record my food. Whenever I’ve done well on Low Carb, it’s been because I’ve been recording what I eat. I can also look back then too and see what foods may not be helping my weight loss and change things up to get the weight moving again. I am a total emotional eater. I would be A LOT smaller if I just had went and exercised instead of eating my feelings. During one of my most stressful times I weighed in at 297 – that was a wake up call that i needed to change something, but I just can’t seem to get to my goal. I’m really hoping this time is my successful time. πŸ™‚

I’m back – Well done Gavin on resisting temptation! I have a confession, I have never, EVER been to one of these big coffee shops, Starbucks, Costa, Caffe Nero etc πŸ™‚ Whenever I look at the prices I think ‘I can get a jar for that…’ LOL.

Well, Janey, I don’t know if this helps, but hubby has told me we’re getting freekeh tonight… πŸ˜‰ heh. Heh heh. Heh. Fnarr.

I’ll have a look later then Jan, only thing is I am wearing harem pants a lot, but I’ll try. Slip it in my bra or something. And before you ask, yes, the iPad mini would fit in my bra if need be. Lol. I’ve just finished the chicken, MFP lost my recipe once, chicken is marinating, I have accurate nutritional info, photos have been taken, first blog post goes live tonight. Downside, there is no hope of bread being made tonight. What a bloody ordeal it was, scanning everything. TWICE!!

Irish girl – cool song! I was a huge Madonna fan in my youth (I say, like I’m 94). You must be my lucky staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar πŸ™‚ And huge well done on the BMI change, I bet you feel on top of the world!!! I still have exactly 50lbs left to go before I get that honour, but I will do it.

Sorry if I’ve missed anyone or anything, don’t think there was anything else, was there…

… ah yes. Janey. Well done πŸ˜‰ You’re a star too, and you weren’t that far behind me AND you work full time AND you don’t have a treadmill AND you’ve had crap weather. I think we should share the honours πŸ˜€ 5000 steps is nothing, it’s 50 minutes walking.

Great day today. Went from obese to overweight (albeit still miles overweight). Still progress is progress and 30lbs down thus far.

  • I am finding it good actually.
I have lost 5 pounds since Sunday this week as so many diff things got in my way last week to be completely applying it to my life. I am drinking lots of water which is helping.
I do a low carb way of eating and am not really mfp addict yet lol as with so much to deal with in other stuff this is the best I can do.

I am away this next week and are planning foods for that.

We’ll have to have a weekend duel, Tokyo? Or do daily ones, you can do just 24 hour ones, let me know πŸ™‚

It’s still a quarter of a pound off in old money, Jan, and it all goes towards the big total so far, doesn’t it? I know it’s disappointing but try and let it spur you on to this next week with a renewed determination.

Well done Timmy, you’re getting closer now!

Janey, I salute you. I am never able to do that, I always make a loss.

Hi Runforfun, you didn’t go over the top, which is good πŸ™‚ And I’m sure the 17,000 steps helped counteract it a bit πŸ˜‰

Does your phone have to be connected online for the app thing to work Jan, is it only iPhone? I’m only on a small data package so I only use the internet on my phone when I’m checking emails while out. Plus, I don’t carry my phone on my person ever, it’s either on the table or in my handbag so it probably would be redundant for me.

My feet haven’t stopped moving, I went up every aisle of every shop, even the aisles I didn’t need! Now I have to keep everything, tidy my kitchen before I start kebabbing! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm nom.

I understand that Yowzer, I’m a trouser girl (although did bite the bullet and buy a few Joe Brown’s dresses before my 40th) and I have pair upon pair from size 16 up to 20 waiting for me to fit in! I am in 20 jeans now, and they’re going baggy, but no two sizes are the same are they? Well done! That can be as much a boost as a number on a scale, if not more! That’s the BSD in action, not stats!

My day 1 was yesterday! I have been trying to follow the plan as I don’t have to count the calories. My biggest problem atm is feeling so hungry – hope that will only last a few days!. My downfall yesterday was I left it too late to start preparing dinner/supper, by which time I was tired, and too hungry to be bothered to spend time making a veg curry. Not an epic fail tho’ as I’ve being doing lo carb generally for a couple of weeks and had a veg curry in freezer that was amazingly about the same cals as the meal plan – just a bit higher on carbs as there was some rice in it. That and some cherries saw me through and deal on 800 cals, so actually very pleased.

This morning I went for a walk and was amazed how much energy I had – and so far its lasted through a morning on my feet, and prepping lunch – love the beetroot falafels.

I am still logging food and exercise as that was one of the challenges I set myself a few weeks ago.
Fitness Pal doesn’t like it if the calorie count is under 1000, so I’ve invented an additional meal of 300 cals so I can “complete” each day. I found most of the blood sugar diet meals in the recipes section, but was dissapointed that the actual ingredients or nutrition has not been logged for them.

*** Has anyone else tried the Headspace app for Mindfulness/Meditation ***

Having learnt from yesterday, I’ll be preparing dinner early even if I don’t eat it straightaway.

    Onwards and downwards!

Only someone who lives in trousers will know how good it feels to have three pairs that are comfortable and hang properly! ( i never reveal the legs LUCKY,like you said). Wore lovely dress and jacket to DDs wedding but dress was sooo long ( to hide chubby cuffed ankles) i looked like i was gliding along on castors! And i was walking her down the aisle! 😁 A wonderful day but spoilt a little by my own inability to keep to pre wedding diet..the stress of it all made me eat MORE..if only i had known of BSD then! X

    Hi gretchen,

Thanks for sharing your side of the story. You definitely need to cut yourself some slack and try not to be so hard on yourself. Also really sorry to hear about your dog and hope he\she is okay!

I think with any diet though, this is meant to be your lifestyle, obviously with any diet if you start going back to your old ways and bad habits then the weight will pile back on. It’s took me a while to learn that it has to be a way of life not just the next 8 weeks, which is why yes I’m disheartened that I haven’t lost any weight but I’m going to stick at it because it’s healthy and it’s what I want to do rather than eat junk and feel sluggish.
Hopefully you will find your motivation too and keep going!

Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere on the forum, I did try searching for it!

I’ve been on BSD for two weeks now with promising early results from weight loss to increased energy. However, I am concerned that since starting the diet, my skin has broken out with tiny pimples on my face and torso. Pimples are rare for me, even when I was eating a lot of junk so I’m curious as to why this is happening.

Has this happened to anyone else? Did it pass?

    Cheers, AH.

  • I’m sorry things haven’t worked for you, Gretchen, you must be really fed up.

However I totally disagree that this forum is judgemental or critical – it’s really supportive and encouraging and many people say so.

It’s true your own conversation (that terrible inside voice) keeps telling yourself stuff – mine certainly does – but even if this doesn’t seem to work for you (and it is strange that reducing your calories and restricting carbs hasn’t had more effect) it has worked for many people, either slowly or quickly. I was slow at the start (got discouraged) but it eventually worked.

So the results for me demonstrate it’s not a fad, and the research also does. But no-one can predict individual results with very different bodily responses.

I am horrified to think anything said here would make you feel worse. All everyone wants is to see everyone succeed no matter how slow or difficult it might be.

Have you had a chance to look at more threads? There may be something which would help. Should you set your sights lower and give it more time? May be what your body needs specifically

If so, loads of people here to help. If not, best wishes to you for everything you do in the future.

  • Hi Wendy, you posted over week ago so things may have changed by now but here are a couple of suggestions
    – he may be ‘fat on the inside like MM who was at a normal weight when he did this to reverse his pre diabetes
    – more exercise would help with blood sugar levels
    – maybe you need to look at portion sizes, more low gi foods, less protein (too much protein sends my bs levels up)
Maybe there is something else going on – there are some forms of diabetes mentioned in the book in addition to Type 1, which don’t respond to this because they have a different cause.
I’m not an expert, but hope this helps.
And well done to him for losing 1.5 stone over 8 weeks.

By this week, week 4 I had managed to shift a pound. Taking my total loss to 3lbs. In the past I’ve lost this just by cutting out a cappuccino.

Last week after reducing carbs to 25g and swimming every day as well as keeping very low on the calories (I managed 800 every day bar one where I went to 1000.) by the Friday I had lost absolutely nothing and my waist measurement had actually increased by 1/2 inch.

This week has been stressful due to my dog being in for an op and I thought what’s the point. I’ve given up for now. I agree that rapid weight loss does keep, you motivated but I have found not losing weight whilst everyone around me was to have the reverse effect and have found the constant super critical, blame thing even more stressful. The constant questioning of myself and blaming myself for not losing weight on something everyone says you should be has made it worse than other diets I think.

I mentioned this to the girls at work. They did all lose lots of weight on the programme but non have stuck to it so I suppose it’s like any other diet fad.

    Morning all how it going,

Official weigh day for me, only a disappointing .1 of a kg oh wow is me, but I’ve slipped twice this week, and have also really upped my exercise, gardening a little running, strength, and today spring cleaning the house, major big time, thank goodness I have lost nearly two stone it makes it so much easier to do as I have the energy, and I can squeeze into smaller spaces. Going to get seriously focused this week I am aiming for four pounds loss. I have four more weigh days until a big family wedding in Norfolk, and I want to be the slimmest sister.

Re the duel as this wonderful forum is always so non judgemental, I think in the mood of equanimity to all we should aim for lucky and janey to be mutual duel buddies, and most definitely both winners.

I’m still not sure whether I want one of those jawbone bands on my arm, it will spoil my couturier image hehe, but I use the pacer app, so I am thinking of starting a BSD group on there if anyone is interested, then you can pace your steps, cals etc on there, if anyone is up for it.

Wishing you all a positive and productive BSD day. πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

  • Hi k.rae

Difficult though it is, you mustn’t panic! Things often seem to start slow (how irritating to see others lose pounds and pounds, much as you wish them well) but they do accelerate.

What I did – and you can follow if you like, see what suits you –

I had 20 odd pounds to lose (10 stone 8 lbs to target 9 stone), not Type 2 and knew it would be difficult – had been trying to do this for some time.

I got on to My Fitness Pal, but also checked out this site
    http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com

which gave me my resting metabolic rate (not many calories to maintain weight, eek!)
and then entered in a low carb target (I selected 20g of carbs – many here do less than 50), selected their recommended protein and it gave me the fat percentages. I then entered these on MFP and started from there.

I’ve been choosy about what to spend my carbs/calories on (I like fruit but I prefer other things), have tried to drink more than is reasonable, and measured, measured, measured.

I achieved my 9 stone target, and now 12 weeks in I am just going for 8 stone 10 lbs to give myself wiggle room as I’ve increased my calories to 1000 per day, but sticking to 20g of carbs for the present. 16% of my body weight lost, all my 5 year old clothes fit, am totally transformed and still can’t believe it. It has seemed to happen very quickly, but of course was very slow whilst I was living through it. Often catch sight of myself in new mirror and am amazed all over again.

Everyone’s body is different, and therefore the results will be too – but if you are doing what you say you are, and you are rigorous about the carbs and drinking water then IT WILL HAPPEN. Try the measurements as an indicator. I was looking slimmer and clothes were looser ahead of the weight showing significant decreases, because the visceral fat goes (especially for me round the waist) and changes your shape completely
