posted by SunnyB on Before and after eating plan but not losing weight
on 3 Aug 2016 at 18:54 in Fast 800I believe the mistake would be to view this way of eating, as purely a weight lose diet rather than a lifestyle. Many of us are losing much slower than others, but what is being gained over and above the weight lose is certainly worth having – sleeping better, having more energy, etc.
The low carb plan has now become my accepted nutritional path and is just how I eat now. At present, I am still on the 800cals and losing, but I have had a ten week period when I didn’t count cals and transgressed occasionally on the carbs front too and only gained 2.8lb in that time. Getting back to the 800 and losing again (once again slowly) was easy.
However, I guess no eating plan is for everyone and we all have to find our own path. For me – as for many others – finding the BSD has been a revelation, for others it will be something else. Hopefully everyone who tries the BSD, will be inspired to look for their ideal nutritional path.

Hey Izzy – that all sounds like brilliant news! Hope things work out for your folks and they happily settle into their new home.
My positives for today are – have had a friend and her daughter staying for a couple of days. Has been good to catch up in person for a change.
Have another friend coming to stay from tomorrow, which I’m really looking forward, as she is my longest standing friend and a joy to have around.
Spent a wonderful afternoon wandering around a donkey sanctuary yesterday afternoon, meeting the residents, getting some exercise and enjoying the fresh air. Great experience for mind and body.

Hi
What I have done and I have lost just over 26@lbs in 5 weeks, was to stick to the recommended foods as per the bsd800 book, but I have also using the myfitnesspal app counted my cals up to 800 and carbs up to 50. You will have times when you feel hungry, but you will learn how not to waste cals/carbs on empty value foods, you need to drink plenty, and use distraction, I tend to be ritualistic with the timing of my meals I find that has helped also. But stick to the book. Also download MFP app if able it will make life much easier to tweak things to suit.
Whatever you do don’t have a little sugar or refined carbs it will set your appetite of again. But your appetite will settle down, it’s early days yet. If I can do it you definitely can, I’m the worlds worst.Keep at it, it will reward you.
Keep posting good or bad there is always someone around.
Regards
Jan -
Just finished dinner. Another bolognese and courgetty. With a small piece of cheese and one cashew nut ๐
Had to have an espresso to help fill the hunger.
Lucky – you mentioned a blog. Have you got the link ?
I’ve updated my profile with a permanent link to my diet blog posts. The header photo on my blog is a picture taken by me near where I live, of 2 of my Labradors. I have a younger one too.

You have company – like you, I am a slow loser sunshine-girl. Congrats on getting over the half stone mark -a half stone lost is half a stone lost and should not be sniffed at – I’m sure you will soon be reporting you have got over the whole stone lost mark. Great b/g results too. I’m hoping to get over the stone and a half mark in the next three weeks, but not banking on it of course. Anyway, keep with it and I’m sure you will be posting more positive results soon.

That should read BESAN
-
Ah that’s where you may be slipping up. You should leave the beds N/water mix for at least 20 mins to thicken up then add the oil just as you’re about to cook. The longer you leave it the more stable the mix gets!
-
I do it straight away Janey, I like them fresh. Made an entire batch successfully tonight, well, half a batch. I opened the wrong side of the lid on the pepper pot and instead of the shaker, I poured about half a tub in ๐ Sieved it out as best I can but they are going to be peppery ๐ Probably too peppery. Ah well, maybe they’ll be inedible ๐ Calories saved! The children’s kebabs are under the grill now, gawd faff!!!! Next time I’ll marinate the whole thigh or breast.

Been reading these messages about carb levels which got me thinking. I’ve been following the diet, my third day today, and realised my carb level was still quite high. I’ve worked it out that the meals I’ve made are high in veg, jewelled peppers again today, and therefore carbs from them – better than bread, pasta etc but it’s made me re think what I eat. Think I’ll up the cheese/protein in my lunches as that may be why I’m starting to feel hungry well before dinner time. Can anyone tell me if they think this is right?

Thanks GAVINFABL!
Oh iknow what you mean..i feel like i have cake displays practically tattoed to my inner eyelids, i can look at them somlong! No cals or carbs in lookin tho,so no harm done like you said X๐๐๐๐๐ -

And hang out on the forum to feel you are with friends who understand. A bunch of August starters can be found on the ‘starting tomorrow’ thread.

on 3 Aug 2016 at 17:36 in Starting the BSDSorry Princetonian Stud if I misunderstood re fat – best wishes for your mucus stuffy nose syndrome!
Re weight loss each week – Michael says in the book you may lose 10% – 15% of your starting weight. If you space that calculated figure (I should go for the lower %, rather than the higher) over the 8 weeks, then the average per week will be shown. It does go up and down, and plateaux are common when weight doesn’t shift, although measurements might – which is why it’s so important to measure or have target clothes.
Hope that helps

Oh good luck with yr op Bob x i hope it goes well and you recover quickly and get ANOTHER new lease of life to add to the new you who is over 6 stone less! Respect!
Isnt it awful that hosp food can be so dreadful..i went to see a friend in hospital and he had orderd pasta for dinner..when it came, he could fork up the whole clump of pasta in one go..just a hard sticky mess! Not what you need when youre trying to get well. The docs and nurses do a great job, miracles happen every day in hospitals everywhere..but why isnt the food better and why arent dieticians keeping up with all the research? Surely if patients were fed nourishing food and given some decent advice on what to eat after discharge, eventually the numbers of ill people wd go down and the NHS would save a fortune!
I can only suggest you ask family and friends to bring food in for you,Bob..i hope this is a possibility? You need to keep yr strength up! X heres to you getting well soon and back home again ๐๐ป -
Sadly yes I can believe it. I predict it will be getting on for another decade, before the government and the NHS catches up and accepts the science behind the BSD way of thinking. Yes, the proof is right there in front of them already, but it isn’t yet at a level that they can no longer keep denying the evidence, so meanwhile the vast majority of professionals and public, will go on using the worthless and defunct ethos of the past.
-
you are making a difference – that is the important bit
-
A lot depends on your starting weight – the less you have to lose the less you lose each week. Someone who is heavier needs more calories in every movement and resting so 800 cal input will mean a bigger gap between their needs and their food and it is the deficit that matters.
So if my body needs 3000 cal to move and be etc and I only give it 800 then it has to use up 2200 cal from stored fat etc
A smaller body that needs 2000 cal a day to move and be etc given 800 cal will only use 1200 cal from stored fat.
1 kg of weight loss in a week needs daily deficit of 1000 calories.
And that is all before the slight variation in metabolism, exercise, portion sizes and cheat moments….
-
Pints of water or pints pints??
I am filling 3 x 1 litre bottles of water each morning which I have to drink through the day.
As for alcohol – I have just wobbled with a glass of red wine (it is on the Mediterranean lifestyle… not much of an excuse but…) -
Hi greenjanet, Lucky, Yowser49, Gymgirl51
Thanks for all your messages. All I can say is that I can from memory, recall every item that sat behind the glass display in Costa’s ๐
I’m calling the experience a virtual taste – feels good, but totally harmless ๐
Yowser49 – congrats on the trousers ๐
greenjanet – a reduction is a reduction so well done! Going to check that app out now.
Timmy – amazing , well done ๐
If I missed anyone, apologies. This thread moves faster that I can drink a glass of water ๐

Unfortunately I am in hospital waiting for a heart bypass op. I started the Fast 800 in Jan losing 42lbs but have since carried on the bsd way losing so far in excess of 6 stone. But my diet is under threat from short sighted NHS dieticians. They make the meal plans for the whole hospital. The choices for meals are bizarre consisting of 80% carbs. Potatoes, rice, pasta and so much bread you could stock a bakery aisle in Tesco. I had to make my choice for meals for tomorrow, today, out of around 50 to 60 choices, the only thing that suited the bsd diet was an apple. Unbelievable. The breakfast choices are toast and jam(or marmalade) and cereals. All the ones with sugar. I asked for a yoghurt, and was given a muller one. So I asked if I could talk to a dietician and was refused, but the catering manager came to see me and and I explained about the BSD and he reassured me that I can mix and match items to get a decent menu. He does have access to the dieticians and mentioned what I said and got the reply that the BSD diet is a lifestyle choice. Can you believe that.

MOVE AWAY FROM THE NAAN!
I’m not sure why your chickpea wraps are so inconsistent though.. how long do you leave the mix before you cook it?

My sentiments exactly about Madge. Her stuff up to and including Erotica was the best. Wasn’t much of a fan of Frozen/Music/Ray of Light era, she redeemed herself ever so slightly with Confessions on a Dancefloor.
Yes old woman, I’ll let you *smiles sweetly*
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo fighting talk…
Off to make chickpea wraps. Pray for me. Or I’m having a naan bread with it. I will. I will HAVE a naan bread with it.

Day 16 – I woke up early this morning so I got on the treadmill for 20 mins, it’s not much but I thought it was better than nothing. I stuck to my near 800 cals yesterday – 856 cals, which is good for me. I’m not having an issue with staying under my carb limit but I am having an issue for sticking to my 800 cals. My goal this week is to try to keep to this as much as possible.
TOM is starting this week and I’m not looking froward to it. Last time I was doing low carb and I got them, it was longer and more painful. I’m dreading it so much. I’m also dreading the cravings… I tried to weigh in yesterday but my water weight is already there. I’m hoping this means a really good loss for next week. ๐
Napangardi I NEED to record everything or I don’t stay accountable. I have a Garmin that tells me my fitness and steps, and I use MyFitnessPal or a diary to record my food. Whenever I’ve done well on Low Carb, it’s been because I’ve been recording what I eat. I can also look back then too and see what foods may not be helping my weight loss and change things up to get the weight moving again. I am a total emotional eater. I would be A LOT smaller if I just had went and exercised instead of eating my feelings. During one of my most stressful times I weighed in at 297 – that was a wake up call that i needed to change something, but I just can’t seem to get to my goal. I’m really hoping this time is my successful time. ๐

You’ll ‘let’ me win????? Let? Me???
I used to love Madonna back in the day, but she’s 150 years old now, and has done far too much yoga to be good for her. Move over and let Gaga et al in!!
-
Hi GG – it is Shove (long story and I won’t go into it). An Irish pronunciation thing!!
Lucky and Yowser – many thanks for the kind messages. Dead chuffed and does give me the motivation to keep going. You will both definitely get there.
Lucky – I love Madonna too but she has gone a bit odd the last few years… But 80s and 90s Madonna was the biz.
-
And I might let you win next time.

I’m back – Well done Gavin on resisting temptation! I have a confession, I have never, EVER been to one of these big coffee shops, Starbucks, Costa, Caffe Nero etc ๐ Whenever I look at the prices I think ‘I can get a jar for that…’ LOL.
Well, Janey, I don’t know if this helps, but hubby has told me we’re getting freekeh tonight… ๐ heh. Heh heh. Heh. Fnarr.
I’ll have a look later then Jan, only thing is I am wearing harem pants a lot, but I’ll try. Slip it in my bra or something. And before you ask, yes, the iPad mini would fit in my bra if need be. Lol. I’ve just finished the chicken, MFP lost my recipe once, chicken is marinating, I have accurate nutritional info, photos have been taken, first blog post goes live tonight. Downside, there is no hope of bread being made tonight. What a bloody ordeal it was, scanning everything. TWICE!!
Irish girl – cool song! I was a huge Madonna fan in my youth (I say, like I’m 94). You must be my lucky staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar ๐ And huge well done on the BMI change, I bet you feel on top of the world!!! I still have exactly 50lbs left to go before I get that honour, but I will do it.
Sorry if I’ve missed anyone or anything, don’t think there was anything else, was there…
… ah yes. Janey. Well done ๐ You’re a star too, and you weren’t that far behind me AND you work full time AND you don’t have a treadmill AND you’ve had crap weather. I think we should share the honours ๐ 5000 steps is nothing, it’s 50 minutes walking.

Darn it, I think Lucky has won this week’s duel ๐
Am waiting for her to get home and sync her steps but she’s at least 5000 ahead of me for the 7 days.
Well done…but it’s the first of many!! Victory will be mine! Muahahahahahahaha

I think going from obese to overweight must be marvellous for self esteem..
And 30 lbs down is fab..imagine hauling six 5 lb bags of spuds with you everywhere you go? Must feel wonderful to have put all those spuds down! X๐๐ป๐๐ป -
happy to do a duel but a bit scared about going up against Gymgirl51! Oh what the hell, lets go for it.
Lucky – you are a star. Feel a Madonna song coming on…Keep me amused all day at work and motivated. You should defo write a sitcom about the bsd.
Great day today. Went from obese to overweight (albeit still miles overweight). Still progress is progress and 30lbs down thus far.

Well done on the trouser front Yowzer๐๐
I’ m sat in a Costa now surrounded by screaming kids!!!! well done Gavin I succumbed to the yoghurt thingy they do for my late lunch 187 calories but sugars are a bit high still it could have been a chocolate muffin although I may buy one to use ear plugs .
Has anyone else got a Fitbit that would like to join a Lucky/ Janey style duel ? -
Thanks LUCKY JAN JANEY X oh gosh Jan i didnt think of cuffed equalling tagged๐ฑ I have fat ankles..i think I might have a touch of oedema if a touch is poss!
GAVIN well done on resisting..those Costa goodies are practically totally irresistible! X ps there was something you said elsewhere Gav that i related to..gahhhh..cant think what it was now,..goldfish brain! X -
Gavin isn’t that the best feeling, you win the award for the day, of resisting temptation.๐ผ๐ผ๐ผ yeah

Lucky Re the phone, it works on any phone that uploads apps, and I’m not aware I am using Internet, as the pacer works offline, so to get that onto the group I will have to see if that happens offline as well. Well why don’t you start putting it in your pocket, then you can have j.b duels and pacer races. Wey hey multitasking, all while you are compiling the recipe thread, chatting to half a dozen people at once, not sure how you do that do you memorise it all or write it all down before you reply, but impressed I am, oh and looking after hubby and darlings, and looking after the house, clearing up the freezer gravel, and organising a holiday. Woo worn out now, of for hot water and a slice of lemon.๐๐๐
-
Congrats on the trousers, Yowzers! It’s great to find previously forgotten items that now fit! I have a suit in the wardrobe that I’ve never managed to get into the trousers of, so may give that a try soon!
Just had Waitrose freekeh, chickpea and kale salad for lunch. Very yummy and legal. No idea what freekeh actually is tho?!
-
I had a shake thing for breakfast (yogurt, green tea, blueberries, flax seeds) . Had home made soup for lunch with a banana and a babybel.
Was taken to Costa’s by a client. Only had black coffee despite the temptation on offer ๐
-
Yowser Bril re the trousers yep know that feeling, but cor blimey don’t tell us you are tagged hehe, around both ankles re the cuffs, but really our only crime is to dare to put two fingers up to the carb and low fat peeps, so good going, we are in it for the long haul so keep encouraging us with your posts.
Love jan

MOJOJOJOBEANS I love your name! And glad you asked that question,it was floating round the back of my mind too. But I ‘ m losing and so are you,so we must be doing something right! I think you’ll find yr tum will disappear..i found this on 5:2 and seems to be the case on BSD also! X

I’m back! We were flagging with three stores to go and decided to abandon the children with the eldest tomorrow to finish off!
We’ll have to have a weekend duel, Tokyo? Or do daily ones, you can do just 24 hour ones, let me know ๐
It’s still a quarter of a pound off in old money, Jan, and it all goes towards the big total so far, doesn’t it? I know it’s disappointing but try and let it spur you on to this next week with a renewed determination.
Well done Timmy, you’re getting closer now!
Janey, I salute you. I am never able to do that, I always make a loss.
Hi Runforfun, you didn’t go over the top, which is good ๐ And I’m sure the 17,000 steps helped counteract it a bit ๐
Does your phone have to be connected online for the app thing to work Jan, is it only iPhone? I’m only on a small data package so I only use the internet on my phone when I’m checking emails while out. Plus, I don’t carry my phone on my person ever, it’s either on the table or in my handbag so it probably would be redundant for me.
My feet haven’t stopped moving, I went up every aisle of every shop, even the aisles I didn’t need! Now I have to keep everything, tidy my kitchen before I start kebabbing! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm nom.
I understand that Yowzer, I’m a trouser girl (although did bite the bullet and buy a few Joe Brown’s dresses before my 40th) and I have pair upon pair from size 16 up to 20 waiting for me to fit in! I am in 20 jeans now, and they’re going baggy, but no two sizes are the same are they? Well done! That can be as much a boost as a number on a scale, if not more! That’s the BSD in action, not stats!
Right, offski. Laters ๐

My day 1 was yesterday! I have been trying to follow the plan as I don’t have to count the calories. My biggest problem atm is feeling so hungry – hope that will only last a few days!. My downfall yesterday was I left it too late to start preparing dinner/supper, by which time I was tired, and too hungry to be bothered to spend time making a veg curry. Not an epic fail tho’ as I’ve being doing lo carb generally for a couple of weeks and had a veg curry in freezer that was amazingly about the same cals as the meal plan – just a bit higher on carbs as there was some rice in it. That and some cherries saw me through and deal on 800 cals, so actually very pleased.
This morning I went for a walk and was amazed how much energy I had – and so far its lasted through a morning on my feet, and prepping lunch – love the beetroot falafels.
I am still logging food and exercise as that was one of the challenges I set myself a few weeks ago.
Fitness Pal doesn’t like it if the calorie count is under 1000, so I’ve invented an additional meal of 300 cals so I can “complete” each day. I found most of the blood sugar diet meals in the recipes section, but was dissapointed that the actual ingredients or nutrition has not been logged for them.*** Has anyone else tried the Headspace app for Mindfulness/Meditation ***
Having learnt from yesterday, I’ll be preparing dinner early even if I don’t eat it straightaway.
Onwards and downwards!

Joy of joys! Can now get into three pairs of many and varied trouser wardrobe.( some never even out of their bags)
Til recently, only one pair fitted, and another pair fastened with a struggle then promptly burst open as soon as i moved.
Only someone who lives in trousers will know how good it feels to have three pairs that are comfortable and hang properly! ( i never reveal the legs LUCKY,like you said). Wore lovely dress and jacket to DDs wedding but dress was sooo long ( to hide chubby cuffed ankles) i looked like i was gliding along on castors! And i was walking her down the aisle! ๐ A wonderful day but spoilt a little by my own inability to keep to pre wedding diet..the stress of it all made me eat MORE..if only i had known of BSD then! Thanks for sharing your side of the story. You definitely need to cut yourself some slack and try not to be so hard on yourself. Also really sorry to hear about your dog and hope he\she is okay!
I think with any diet though, this is meant to be your lifestyle, obviously with any diet if you start going back to your old ways and bad habits then the weight will pile back on. It’s took me a while to learn that it has to be a way of life not just the next 8 weeks, which is why yes I’m disheartened that I haven’t lost any weight but I’m going to stick at it because it’s healthy and it’s what I want to do rather than eat junk and feel sluggish.
Hopefully you will find your motivation too and keep going!

Aww thank you to you both. It has made me feel better. I guess I just really worry that I wont lose my belly. I am like a telly tubby, all my weight is carried around my middle and it’s so unhealthy and awful and so just needs gone! So I just wanted to make sure I am doing all that I can.
Have a lovely day and thanks again!
