Day four and not hungry! Resisted deliberate and inadvertent (‘doing my head in’ variety) efforts of ex-husband to sabotage diet during a lengthy visit!
Today I had a miso soup with mushroom, tomatoes and spinach; dinner was a fish curry with onions, garlic, carrot, spinach and yoghurt, and frozen berries and yoghurt. Gorgeous! 793kcals.

Barnett – from reading other posts it appears that a weight loss plateau is not uncommon (but completely frustrating nonetheless). I am in Week 1 and losing steadily each day, but I am sure that will slow as it has for others.
From what others have said when the plateau occurs there is often still terrific improvement in peoples measurements (waist etc) and blood sugar levels. So don’t lose heart – stay the course – as weight is only one of the benefits that this approach is delivering for you.
Almost all those who have gone 8 weeks (or sometimes much longer) have experience a plateau. I find browsing the posts of those who started earlier a great way to motivate me to stick with the program – particularly with the Carb monster rises up.
Good luck!!

Date 19/8/16 (Week 1 – Day 4 of the Fast 800)
Weight 89.0 (down 0.4kg and 2.1kg so far)Day 3 was pretty good. Was kept busy at work so I didn’t notice the hunger pangs much at all. Skipped lunch and went for a walk instead – worked well. Fell off the strict regime a bit last night and enjoyed a few glasses of wine over dinner with friends – but I had allowed some room in the calorie count to accommodate it – seems to have limited the damage (not too far over calorie and carb target range)

Yeah its a great result! Only thing is it makes we want to celebrate with a bottle of wine! ☺. I mainly do my own thing food wise too. Really trying to keep my activity levels up as it can only help. Thanks for the feedback.

I think its about the same
I’m not certainm but assume that the drier the champagne (or prosecco), the fewer carbs too. -
that was worth doing then rather than worrying until Sunday – that’s 14 pack of butter – take a look at that many when you go to the supermarket!
well done- the weird thing is that you didn’t feel as if you’d lost any, that’s a huge amount!I weigh daily (unless I forget) – and don’t follow the recipes, just apply the principles of avoiding carby foods.
-
that’s interesting – I was very anaemic about five years ago – my hair used to be very thick, but got a lot thinner at some point – could well have been then, had other stuff to worry about so wouldn’t have noticed.
Almost a year ago, after about three years of Brazilian blowdries, I had one that went horribly wrong & frazzled my hair – very frizzy and it broke off on the top section of my head. It is recovering now – the hairdresser said a couple of weeks ago that the regrowth seemed a lot thicker – may be BSD related!

Hi Leeanne
Do keep posting us your hair progress. I too have noticed my hair thinning across the top of my head and crown – I have not noticed it shed though. Just that now I can see more scalp than I used to if I stand under a mirror or in daylight. I don’t know if this is a side effect of the diet, I do hope not but then again nor do I want it to be just old age! The timing is around the 3 month in mark, and I think I under achieve on protein goals quite often. I have trawled the net but it just makes you crazy? I check my hair a dozen times a day and it is really getting to me.
Would be good to hear of any similar experiences? I have had a thyroid test and get results next week but I feel it is not that.
All was going so well – 16lbs lost and I was over the moon. Now all I can think about is this. Apologies for self pity I know there have been people in this great forum with much worse problems. Any advice sooooo gratefully received

Hopefully, most of us, get a days holiday, the August bank holiday.
Why don’t we have a day of exercise?Pick something you want to try and have never done it before.
We have a week, so take a few days to research, sort, organise it.
It can be anything, don’t forget the inexpensive items in pound land.Let’s have a day that will benefit us all.

So, how is everyone doing in the warmth and sunshine?
The weather man has given warnings for Heavy rain on Saturday.
I will take up my favourite sport…. Puddle bashing.I used to stay in and sulk watching telly.
Now I go out, get soaked, laugh and have fun.
Then, I come home to a warm shower, warm fluffy towels and cosy pyjamas. Are you enjoying the rain?
Love Lucia

I’m assuming prosecco has the same counts as champagne? Fingers crossed!!

Frog: it’s positively a super food; better get the second bottle chilled.

Hi Lynne,
My email is chwilsontynings@gmail.com, I am also on Facebook as christine wilson mother of five, grandmother of 11plus two step grandchildren, from Walsall originally from Accrington, I don’t know how you would find me on Facebook though? Anyway looking forward to either email or Facebook.
Christine. -
A 4-ounce serving of champagne contains just 1.6 grams of carbs – lower than that of other types of wine.
White and red table wines contain about 3.0 grams of carbs for a similar size glass—–and 0.4 mg of iron per flute
-
That is great. Your weight loss is amazing. I feel like I have done ok during the eight weeks but I was not sure if it was good to continue but yourself and Steve have shown that it’s not a problem so I am going to continue until I’m at a weight I like.
I was scepticle about my blood sugars going down as I had been diabetic for about seven years. However after a few weeks I was off my meds and I’m below the diabetic level constantly. -
Hi Christine – I agree with your friend! Thank you for acting on the thought.
Don’t want to say much on a public forum. You on Facebook or email?

I started the 800 two weeks ago and have been very well behaved, despite life’s offers of “Just one wont hurt” etc… For the first week I lost an incredible 8lbs which was very encouraging and to help me keep going I kept an emotional log book of my every move, which has been the best decision so far. Week two was very different though, despite sticking rigidly to the plan my weight has stayed put for the whole week…not an oz lower…very discouraging. I am perservering and just wondered if there was any advise to keep me going as am close to giving in to bread..! I fear that if I made a bad decision that will be it..all out food carnage!
-
Hi. I’m still doing 800 calories and will complete week 35 on Saturday. I had lots of weight to lose so just stuck with it. Now I’ve lost just over 6 stone and have 5 pounds to go to reach my target. Blood sugars now consistently in the normal range and other health improvements.
-
Hi Lynne,
Thanks for getting in touch with Judith, giver her my love, I don’t know why but she has been in my mind for a few days, a very good friend from church advised me to act on those thoughts and not to do nothing so that is what I try to do now.
Christine -
Hi all,
We had the grandchildren today so took them swimming, then to McDonald’s!
So this morning I was 12.3.2! that one pound off making a total this week of 2lb 6ozBreakfast two egg omelet with portobello mushrooms and a cup of tea.
Midday meal, McDonald’s grilled chicken salad, INEDIBLE! asked for another, that was also inedible, ate the chicken two cherry tomatoes and three slices of cucumber! And a cup oc coffee. I also got my money back.
Evening meal. Lamb meat balls with home made tomato sauce and salad, magnum white, again I know I shouldn’t but after the awful lunch? Water,
Supper coffee and nuts.
Not sure how many calories the tomato sauce is or the carb total for today either the lamb meatballs were from the bsd book again though. Anyway we will see tomorrow when i weigh in!
Otherwise a good day, had a slow start, nothing unusual in that, we have had a busy time.
Christine -
Just discovered that champagne is exceedingly low in calories! Well, it’s been a wretched week at work…
-
Hi Steve, thanks for replying. I had been leaning towards staying on the 800 diet as I too found it easy to stick to. After your post I am going to continue until I have lost some more of my weight.
Sandra -
Hi,
Thank you so much. It’s the best diet I have ever done and although 800 calories seemed daunting it actually was very filling and interesting which made it easy to stick to.
-
thanks Janey, have to look at that
Yowzer – not watch bake off?!! -
Thanks JANEY..I think it was more of a Goldilocks moment..
This one’s too small..this one’s too big…this one’s just right! 😋😋😋😋 x heehee -

Not entirely sure what completing your day is supposed to do – other than trigger warnings like that. -
Oh and Frog, you can get a MyWaitrosr app so you can remember and change your 20% off items 👍🏼👍🏼

Yowser, well done on the Cinderella clothes moment! Tokyo, good to hear you’re coming back to the BSD fold 😆 I am not being very BSD friendly today; just finished a carvery! Although I am enjoying my hols I will also be glad to get home and back to the plan! My stomach feels bleuughhhhhh 😔

on 18 Aug 2016 at 19:22 in Starting the BSDThanks @sunnyb and @kyanservices. Day 1 was not bad. I ended up just over 900 calories but I had to edit it up on My Fitness Pal as you get an unhelpful warning if the total is under 1000 – has anyone found a way around that?
Day 1 – 958 cals, 66g carbs. I was amazed at how few cravings I had and how the hunger pangs went away. Had 2 oatcakes at 7, as I was not eating dinner until 9pm and I’d left it too long.
Day 2 – 989 cals, 54g carbs. A day out at the Edinburgh Festival and I had a soy cappucino as a treat but no cakes or junk. Didn’t eat my lunch til 5pm which was a mistake but I find that if I skip breakfast, I don’t need much more than 1 or 2 meals a day. My daughter gave me a crumb of her brownie and it almost made me sick, the sweetness was overwhelming. How bizarre! I’ve not added formal exercise yet but today got in 10,000 steps, walking around shows and taking dog out when we got home.

Hi Yowzer49
I am enjoying not being under the spell of sugar anymore. I am getting the feeling that this is the diet that can be the most easily maintained once a target weight is reached.
Without the huge amounts of refined sugar being eaten it’s surprising how much you could eat without going over a daily allowance.
I think like you that maybe the 5:2 diet may not be the greatest option once the weight has been lost.
A maintenance diet that is stuck to is probably the best.
I am using some simple rules at the moment, no bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes and avoiding refined sugars.
You are doing great on this diet and I wish you all the best with your progress. X -
Re Bake off
Not so hard when it is the recipes that go wrong, or peculiar flavour combinations ! Though celebrity better for the gone wrong effects.
-
well done on the tops fitting Yowzer
just heard a trailer for the next series of Bake Off.
that’ll be hard to watch! -
JAN good to see you,i wondered where you were x nice that youre still in high spirits! 😋😋😋😋😋😋

Another few weeks and I may have arrived at the Emerald City. Hopefully I won’t need the services of the Wizard to help me lose the final bit of weight! -
Hi there all you lovely lot.
I’ve been bonkers busy again, joys of being self employed, but not so many emails today what’s up with you all. Today having a quiet one are we.
Lucky not been walking much as too busy, but my j.b. vibrates every 15 mins so I do a rapid 100 steps on the spot if no one is looking hehe, my customers think I’m bonkers anyway, ooh I’m vibrating got to trot.🙃🙃🙃
-
Hehe ! Just tried on some tops – and they now fit! And get this – drumroll! – one is now too big!
Never been worn, coz it was too tight, now laughably too large!
its now in the bag for the cats home charity shop!😻😻😻😻😻 x
Ps not gettin too carried away tho..some were sadly slotted back into wardrobe as still too snug! -
Try this site, Wendy – enter his details, activity level etc., and it will give you a figure for base metabolism calories required.
http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com
You can then, if you want, add in the carbs as 50g per day, and it will recommend grams of protein and of fat. Which you can then enter on MyFitnessPal if you are using that.
Hope this helps.

MIDDLEAGE youre three days ahead of me and have lost seven pounds more than me!

Hi yes hba1c is going to be done in 2 weeks, so he gets a 12 week cycle as to where he is over that period. What does anybody think is good calories to go up to while I keep his carb low, also after the 12 weeks he is going to do the 5 & 2 what is the calorie count for this does he go up to recommended allowance for a man or shall I keep him lower then this with the low carbs.
Its so great knowing I can get help on here its been tough keeping count of food while doing this diet, but with his sugars up around 18/20 he needed to do this the Meds where being taken at 1000 metformin x 2 daily along with bp meds he has come off all these and the results have been fantastic, just hope the hba1c comes back really good other wise he will have to start taking a tablet again of some sort unless anybody has any other ideas?? Many thanks -
Day 3 back on the bsd feeling bet less rough but finding it hard to not want to eat lovely delicious carb things!!!!
but stuck too it so far headaches going a bit more today !!!
thought you were quiet last night miss lucky now i know drinking wine and fighting!!!
janey you are been too good on your holiday walking no major carb ups like me i am verra verra impressed!! -
WOW!!!! 24lbs is just amazing. Dropping below 50g carbs each day obviously does the trick. Guess I need to try harder!
I think when I plateau it’s because I’m eating too much! So I certainly know what to do!
SunnyB ….just about got my head around eating fats. Had a kipper one morning when I was away and the lemon butter garnish didn’t phase me at all. In the past I wouldn’t have had it because of the butter! Did have to resist the brown bread and butter though!
I think you’re right Loopylou if we can manage a loss at the worst time we’ll be brilliant come Autumn. Although we are away for most of September and it will be a real test for me. I’m going to have to be really strong and have salads instead if pizza etc. Wine will probably be the hardest to resist …. very hard in the sunshine. Enjoy your holiday/s and report back maybe a few days after you get back ….. time to get back on track!

Oh me too AVILA..totally unable to be moderate when it comes to treats..😜😜 will deffo give the raw choc a go at some point down the line..cheering to know there are still some treats in store while we get healthier and happier! X
