  • I know it isn’t a low fat diet, but 37g is still a considerable portion of my calories coming from the fat element. I have just finished a meal of skin on roast chicken with a dressed tomato salad with lots of fresh parsley and am ready for my pudding of full-fat Greek yoghurt and clotted cream with raspberries. My current weekly trend shows 37% of my 797 calories are from protein, 42% from fat and 21% from carbs. This seems to me to be quite suitable. (I am a bit of a data-head case and have gone into this in quite some depth over the last few months.)

Today is quite a high fat day, admittedly, at 115% of target with carbs at 21.2g and protein at 69.5g. Tomorrow will be quite a high carb day as I am playing badminton after work. I try to get it reasonably balanced out over the week.

    Hi trelawny
Well done you , I know what you mean by feeling good been on this now for two weeks and lost 20lb and find I can do things a lot better and with ease I have 3 1/2 stone to lose to be at the weight I want to be so keep up the good work and it helps being in this forum and reading everyone’s ups and downs and seeing them do so well and not giving in when they have a bad day so onwards and upwards here’s to another good week good luck every one

  • Hi everyone. I’ve eaten some small amounts of cheese this week and whilst I’ve lost this week it’s considerably less than last week (as I expected) but I would not consider the 3lbs to be “rapid weight loss”. I’m not disheartened I just think it’s our bodies adapting to the new regime…. On a different thread a lady Calle Lucia stated she’s not lost weight but had lost inches…. I would second this as my stomach has really slimmed down this week….. I’m not sure that I’ll hit the “average of 22lb” as mentioned in the BSD 800cal book but I’m going to keep chugging away in the basis that it’s almost one stone gone in 2 weeks which is amazing for me.
My friend and I went out for lunch today which is the first time I’ve eaten out whilst following the diet and she thought she was doing me a favour by taking me to a salad bar restaurant….. Well I’ve been hungry all day since eating the rabbit food!! I did order the steak salad but it was not sustaining and as soon as I got home the sugar cravings kicked in big time….. I relented and had some apple slices in caramel dipping sauce (100cal) within my allowance but now I feel terrible…. Sleepy and lethargic!
This all goes to prove to me that I’m better for following low carb diet and to avoid the said salad venue!!
Good luck with your weigh-ins this week….. Can’t believe we are starting week 3!!

  • loopy thanks for the information. I knew I had not seen information on how many carbs a day.
Verano. We are not diabetic but I was very worried about the visceral fat I have and my weight has been going up by just over a stone a year! I have only had one apple since being on the diet and can honestly say I have eaten nothing except what I have made from the cookery book! Yesterday at a concert I bought a bottle of diet coke and only had a couple of mouthfuls. Thrown it away today:-) Go me!
KrysiaD thank you also for the information and encouragement.

I can honestly say this diet seems to be reasonably easy for me but thats I am sure is with the help from my husband. We sit down together a couple of days a week and work out what we want to eat and then do the shopping. I also think the bank balance likes it because we are not eating a lot of meat!

So grateful i was a teen when i first encountered these people and their fabulous talents, and soooooo happy that today- so very many years later – they continue to delight me and millions of others..
And not a single carb imbibed along with all the wonderful songs! Heehee! How positive is that! Let The Music Play On! X

  • Hi loopylou and Krysia good to see you here.

I love fish! I’m not much of a meat eater, maybe once a week, but I love chicken and fish, any type except monkfish. You could also try Thai fish cakes if you like spicy. I think they are really low carb but I would need to work it out exactly. They freeze really well!

It’s amazing how we forget about little things as time goes on. I think we become a bit complacent. This ‘7 Days’ will get us back to basics adding back in all the things we have relaxed on.

  • Ah! I forgot to add my “non-scale” victory! I got into a pair of skinny black pants today that I’ve never worn! I attribute this less to the 6 pound weight loss and more to the amazing de-bloating that is happening in my gut! lol. I used to get bloated to the point of looking pregnant after meals, which I think is an indicator of a fatty liver, which I’ve never been diagnosed with but suspect I have (I’ve never been tested as I don’t go to the doctor unless I’m at death’s door! lol).

I hope everyone is doing ok? Nearly through the first day for me and feeling good! Finished eating for today and cals at 848 with carbs 38.7 so not to bad. Just heading out for a walk to get my steps up. Will have some black tea for supper. My weight this morning was 13st .5lbs height 5ft 1.5, waist 38 and tummy 49.5! Funny though I feel slimmer already probably all the water I’ve lost! Hopefully day 2 is as good!x

Day 7. Rather a haphazard supper tonight because I forgot our local village butcher is closed on Mondays. I found some tempura battered cod in the freezer & we had that with some quinoa & flageolet beans! Oh well total calories today for me was 807 but more for my husband because he found his small bag of pumpkin & sunflower seeds left uneaten from yesterday & ate them!!😀😀🙀

I didn’t get time to post this morning so this is the belated results. I have lost another two pounds, bringing me to the full 7 pounds in 7 days. My body fat has also dropped another chunk and is now 38.3% but the big news is that takes me to SIX AND A HALF STONE lost since FEB 2015. This is quite shocking as I was following the basic principles without the calorie restriction in September and didn’t expect that big a difference. I am now wondering whether it is the longer periods of active intermittent fasting I tried on the weekend that made the difference so will be sticking to that for the rest of the plan.

  • I am here and ready for tomorrow also. I know exactly what my extra is. I really haven’t eaten enough fish – lots of weeks no fish at all. So I’ve not really been doing a true Mediterranean diet.

To remedy this my husband has made some salmon fish cakes for me that he saw in the ‘I and they are lovely’. They are really spicy and the recipe uses ground almonds and an egg to bind them together. I like kippers So will have one for breakfast. Will also start using tinned tuna with cream cheese which I really do like. I will look for more fish recipes in the recipe book.

  • The carb level isn’t in the books, although I believe the recipes in the book will roughly average out to a similar level as many of us use, around the 50 mark, if anyone who has the book wants to have a look at whether it does, that would be great, as I have just made that assumption. Carb tracking came about for me because I followed one of the links for the keto calculator posted by Igor (try search to find the link), and messed around on that with how best to portion out those 800 calories to keep me healthy. I wanted quite high protein to make sure my increased activity was covered so settled on (roughly) 40 net carbs, 77 protein and 37 fat. In practice my fat is a little higher than this, and my carbs and protein both a little lower, but I blame the Cornish clotted cream I am still using up after my trip for that 😀

  • Sunshine-girl – prunes and Greek yoghurt a great choice with lots of nutrients.

I hadn’t realised that the French like their gateaux so much and of course baguettes are really high carbs. Hope you enjoy your Zumba class tonight.

Fairyface – yes it is swings and roundabouts. Most people do well on maximum of 50g of carbs a day and it is fine if it averages out to that over the week. Some people find they need to keep carbs lower. Restricting carb levels does seem to be very important. I didn’t realise this at first and it took me 4 months to lose a stone then I lost a stone in one month by keeping carbs lower and logging everything I ate – which you are doing already so you have made a great start.

  • Great results people 😀, and for those who indulged in a little ‘pick me up’ over the weekend, well done in acknowledging it and coming back rather than falling off the wagon completely. It won’t hurt having the occasional indulgence as long as it doesn’t become routine like it used to be for me. On my day 7 weigh in I had lost another 2 lbs which took me to my 6 1/2 stone mini-goal which I hoped to hit by the end of this week so will need to think of another one that is do-able. The next one of my outstanding mini-goals is the ’11 something’ which is 4.5 lbs away now. That may be too much for a week two as I am probably expecting a plateau for a few days this week, as my body adjusts again. On that note, my top half now seems to be shrinking faster than my bottom as I am wearing a size 10 top today 😊 Keep it up folks, we’re all doing fantastically well.

    HUGS to all!

I am on Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday so i am cutting myself some slack ….but i am not eating wildly. Was up all night so i am actually still in my nightie and bathrobe. It’s cold out but supposed to get nicer … and it’s sunny now so i am going to move my butt soon and go for a walk!

  • Hi Fairyface

I think it’s probably a good idea to check out the carbs certainly in the early stages. You don’t mention whether or not either of you have diabetes. If you have you really need to take care of the carbs.

Some fruits and vegetables are really surprising. For example a medium Apple has 19g carbs, a banana 27g and 100g of onions 10g. I had a small piece of Victoria sandwich yesterday, it was a birthday, it had only 250 calories but over 31g carbs almost my daily allowance!!! I’ve chosen 35g of carbs a day but as loopylou says 50g is usual.

It would probably be a good idea to check out your favourite things in a calorie/carb counter … you may be surprised!!!

    Good luck!

  • Hello everyone!

I too started on Monday 3rd, hope you don’t mind me joining this week instead! I’ve been following you all since last Tuesday or Wednesday but have only just had chance to register – feeling like a stalker so thought I’d better get on with it! Never been in a forum before, or followed one, absolutely loving your chat – you make me lol. Will be amazed if you get this post though, should have made ‘Luddite’ my username!

Learning a new way of eating/lifestyle is a big learning curve isn’t it? And I’m sorry to hear a quite a few of you have been feeling poorly – maybe it’s your bodies trying to get you to go back to all those pesky carbs! I think we all need to be kind to ourselves as it’s very early days.

I weighed myself before I started but haven’t been near the scales yet! Have tried every diet under the sun (some several times) and have always found I lose weight very slowly at first. Don’t want to be disappointed and disheartened. I know it’s doing me good because, as many of you have said, tummy is flatter and food tastes fab/wholesome.

Michael Mosley suggested fasting in the mornings. I’ve really taken to this and don’t feel hungry at all. First of my two daily meals tastes amazing! BTW have I missed a bit in the book re the amount of carbs we can have? I just thought I was counting up to 800 cals per day??

Everyone’s doing really well, give yourselves a pat on the back – go on….

  • Hello all. My loss for last week was 6lb and an inch off my waist which is great. I did have a small piece of my daughters birthday cake yesterday and a small prosecco but back on the wagon today. I got back into a pair of my ‘skinny’ jeans which I last wore last year so I’m super happy with that! I made the beetroot falafels today too, very yummy and as it makes 2 portions I’ve got my lunch sorted for tomorrow too – as long as I can fend off my husband from scoffing them. Keid x

  • Fairyface, The book doesn’t specify a set number of carbs and low carb is typically defined as anything form 20g -100g carb per day. However, most people seem to find that sticking to 50g per day leads to weight loss and better blood results. For some people its 70g, others its 30g. I guess it depends on your body but if I were you I would aim for about 50g.

Hope BSD is working well for you and good luck to you and your husband on your BSD journey.

Hoping things start to get a bit easier after day 4.
Hope everyone else has had a good day x

Had a good first day, it helps knowing that there is a team of us all in the same boat.
Had a protein shake with almond milk for breakfast
    Protein bar mid morning
    Veg soup for lunch
    Dinner lamb and broccoli.
Slightly over on calories, but the lamb was left over from yesterday.
    I’ve had 917 cals, 64g carbs and 90g protein.
Out to choir tonight so will have black tea at break time.
    Overall a good first day.
I have at least 6 stones to lose so am setting my first target at 2 stones off. I am 5 8 and quite fit. I go to the gym and aquafit and enjoy walking. Just need to do more!

  • Thank you loophole. Just a week in for us on the diet so still working things out. Is it maximum 50 carbs a day?
Just had a bit of a calorie shock as dinner tonight was over 5oo calories. Spanish Chicken out of the recipe book,(yummy)
but we have been well below 800 calories over the weekend as we were really busy. So I suppose its swings and roundabouts!

  • Yes, the French rate of diabetes is only 1% higher but you would expect it to be lower as they have around 10% obesity we have 25%, and they have 15% overweight whereas we have 35% – don’t quote me, that is from memory. They eat a big baguette every day though not many potatoes or rice and pasta, they do like their gateaux.

I think my lows were caused because I didn’t eat enough of the right things, everything low calorie, low fat and salads made of lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes with a bit of chicken or tuna. They were also happening after maybe 50 minutes swimming and I just wanted to know what to eat, found out on here, 2 or 3 prunes and a couple of mouthsful of Greek yoghurt. Everything is fine now. All ready and off to Zumba.

    Evening Lucia,
You are so right regarding feeding other people. There are feeders. Sorry but in the past I have been guilty of that. I didn’t it mostly when beening “good” on a low fat diet. I feed up my OH and kids. Back in the kitchen after my “Oh but aren’t I good” lowfat meal I would be eating more cheese, more biscuits and another slice of cake.

Now I wouldn’t dare cheat on myself. My OH is learning when enough is enough and I am no longer a pusher of food.

In my head I am trying to plan Christmas food. Now that is another time when I have been a pusher of food. We shall definitely start with prawns and salad with a dressing rather than a bought in cocktail sauce and its hidden staches and sugars. There will be some made vegetable soup for those that want it. We shall have a turkey dinner but without umpteen different servings of potatoes. What about pudding? Usually my sil will make us one. This year it is down to me. I will search out a sensible recipe and not make too big a Christmas pudding. With 14 sitting down to dinner we won’t then be eating a great deal of pudding. I will serve cream not starchy custard.

    The plan is coming together.

    Onwards and downwards.

  • Yesterday glucose down to 88. I’m almost down to 160, my first short term goal, will need to get to 153 for BMI to be overweight rather than obese.
Yesterday was the first day I got really hungry.I suppose this is what a low carb diet feels like to someone with normal glucose values.

  • Sunshine-girl that is so strange that the French have a higher level of diabetes than in the UK when they are not so overweight and their diet is touted as being far superior to ours. A real puzzle.

Your nutritionist was truly bonkers – your diet before seeing him/her was really good. Do you think your lows were caused by any meds you were taking?

You have definitely found a good doctor who supports you on the BSD. It’s great that you are spreading the word on the BSD with your talk to your French class.

It is a shame that your mum got it wrong about the mars bar a day – a whopping 39.9 carbs a bar – but it is so easy to misunderstand or mis-hear advice. My diabetes clinic suggested keeping jellybabies for hypos and taking 4 to give you a 10g of carbs/sugar boost. Luckily I don’t like jellybabies.

  • Good afternoon everyone. Congrats to those with their losses. Hang in there to those not feeling so well yet, and welcome newcomers. I had a wonderful and surprising first week, down 9.8 lbs so far.
Trying to get going with a better exercise schedule this week and impatiently waiting for the cookbook I ordered. Found adding lemon to my water very helpful as that when I drink very much plain I tend to not feel so well. The lemon seems to help counter act this.

  • Hi Plumptious *waves*

Well done 😃 You’re doing really well. Looking forward to seeing you go through that barrier ‘.

If I go down another two pounds it’ll be a loss of 100 pounds😱 Remembering the celebrations at slimming clubs when folk have lost 100 pounds! Some things just stick in your mind!

I even ended up getting sick off all the greasy food after the wedding. As such I have started again fresh today! I am in a much better place not having to worry about such an event again lol! Holidays are not an issues for me truly – but this wedding was stressful!

I am armed with the knowledge you have given me! I will be consuming 1000 calories on the days I workout (bootcamp) and 800 on the ones I do not. I also aim to stick to 50g carbs or less. I will keep you posted!

    Hi Everyone,

I started the 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet yesterday!
As Princess wrote, “. . .and I lived to tell about it”.

I lost about 35 lbs. five years ago, and lately I’ve been seeing the scale rise so I want to get the weight back down and go down further this time around. I read about this diet through a google search. What really interested me the most was the possibility of improving my blood sugar. I had gestational diabetes many years ago and know that because of this, my chances are so much higher of getting Type 2 Diabetes. So far, I’ve managed to not develop the disease, but as I get older, I know it’s a real possibility. I’ve definitely been in the pre-diabetes stage for quite a while.

It is great to read your posts and the support is going to be so good for me while I get through the next 8 weeks.
I’m looking forward to getting to you know you better through your messages and I sincerely appreciate your support.
