    Oh Yowser

    That’s so kind thankyou.

Re your b.p. It does sound like you are most likely over medicated now, especially if you are on an ace inhibitor, your low carb will be defo affecting the function of that drug, I’m sure it will be easily sorted, do you feel dizzy if you stand up abruptly, or is it all the time.

Hi JAN just caught yrmessage as i was climbing into bed.. I have just blown the candles out and said an extra
little prayer as i did so x
Yes i’m on perindopril ace inhibitor ..i didnt know it had contraindications with low carb, that might explain a lot!
Mainly dizzy and nauseous today when i stood up…ok seated, but in the car today ( as passenger) was dizzy and nauseous for most of the journey
saturday was ok seated but into a hellish scenario whenever i stood up,and i dread it happening again, coz i cdnt even get as far as the kitchen coz the world was whirling round in a terrifying way and everything was going dark.
I think that was vertigo and i think thats a balance problem isnt it usually caused by ear trouble.
Feel fine now, like a spring lamb,no dizziness or sickness,on top of the world and hoping for a good sleep!
Hope you sleep well and deeply xox

Yowzer, PS – dizziness and lightheadness is the first side effect mentioned for perindopril. I am on 4mg, so if your dose is much higher than that your doc may need to check you.

I do not think it is the low carb, just the fact that you have probably reduced your blood pressure along with your weight. Lots of studies show that weight loss lowers BP, and you have lost a lot of kilos!

Look up perindopril on google. I want to come off my small dose cos it makes me cough

    Hope it sorts

So we’ ll see.said come back if tablets dont help. …oh well, a few more symptoms to add to the long list!

Today wandered into Asda when on way home from a job the other side of town – they were having a clothing clearance and included some keep fit stuff – at those prices It was worth trying, and I fit in, and don’t look horrendous even though lycra! So at my next Parkrun, when I get a saturday I can go, I can look like I belong.

So need to get focused again to finish the job…

    Hi Yowser.

Just seen your response to my question re your dizziness if you stand up, that indicates, your medication is not required at the dose it is set, so it is bringing down your blood pressure below what is needed, so side effect of that is dizziness, hence the blackness etc, it’s like a faint, and that effects your balance so causing sickness.. Stemetil is okay, but it’s most likely you need your b.p. Meds reduced or removed, do you have a practise nurse you can go and see they are very often more experienced in these matters, and have more time to listen.
I can understand the locum doc, didn’t want to mess with another Drs finely tuned b.p. Meds, as they take a long time to get properly sorted, but your weight loss, means there is a lot less of you for the meds to work on, so their effect is now more concentrated, and also again as you have lost weight, your natural b.p. Measurement will have reduced.
It won’t harm you to do nothing, but you will feel more settled, if you get it looked at, again as taking Stemetil isn’t the solution, just a plaster to stop the symptoms. But hey how wonderful, another amazing BSD stat of its wonderful ness as getting our bodies back to the original package. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

So back on it now the plan that is, my carb monster has been given free rein lately, so it’s chasing me down the road at the mo, until it gets reined back in.😈😈😈 so doing a lot of averting the eyes at the mo, going to have chicken and lentils for dinner, to give me something substantial to eat. Hi Jan – glad that it was good news from the appointment on Monday

Yowzer – if your GP practice is anything like as busy as mine, find out how long it takes for the 24 hour reading results to get back to the GP, and schedule in an appointment to discuss them if you don’t have one already.

Feeling very very stuffed – went to a Vegan Ethiopian Cookery class this evening – amazing food. Most of it fairly low carb – I will work out the calories, carbs etc and post some recipes here when I have time. Several pots of left over nice curry and veg in the fridge too.
A staple of Ethiopian food is a bread/pancake thing called injera, made with Teff flour – didn’t eat a whole one, but tasted some – not that different to good old gram flour pancakes.
No on was vegan, so we had yogurt with it -tasted amazing, and turned out to be from lidl – seems to have even fewer carbs than fage.
Froglet is cross because I’ve been out all day, and she keeps biting my feet, so I’m going to go to bed and watch GBBO while I am too full to be remotely tempted to eat anything, and my feet will be safely under the duvet.

Hi to all the lovely people on this delightful, lighthearted thread. I’m a bit of a forum ‘lurker’, often dipping in to various threads for a bit of inspiration or encouragement but rarely working up the courage to contribute. But having been binge reading this fun thread for several days now I feel I at least have to say thanks. It’s been like a mini soap opera (which I never watch tbh), getting to know all the ‘characters’ who post and silently cheering along all their successes weight and health and temptation resistance wise. Worrying for the people going through troubled times and taking on board all the snippets of wisdom and fascinating asides. I’d never heard of NaNoWriMo for instance and am very tempted to give that a go now that Lucky has brought it to my attention. And swimming between islands for a holiday which Timmy mentioned way back, what a fantastic idea, I know at least two other people who would love to do that 😊. Still tottering along on the weight loss journey myself, three pounds away from having lost 20% of my starting body weight which feels like quite a landmark. And just recently went into the ‘merely’ overweight category of BMI. So although I’m no longer being super strict on calories, the good, low carb diet is still doing it. Just a little slower which is fine for me and stops my husband joking (worrying) that I am ‘fading away’. Not sure there is any danger of someone who is still nearly 11 and a half stone actually disappearing any time soon. πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ but nice to be cared about

Thanks Yowzer, and I hope your unpleasant dizzy symptoms are improving. And that they turn out to be nothing more than the fact you need to come off your bp meds, I’m guessing you would be thrilled to get off tablets. I think I remember reading somewhere else that you started about the same time as me, June 29th? Or am I getting confused? It is certainly a life changer and while I could wish that I’d known about this WOE about twenty years ago so that I hadn’t had to spend so long hating my figure, I am delighted to be one of the fortunate people who has discovered it in time to stop the rot, as it were, from going any further. I feel younger than I have done for such a long time. I really understand your comments about feeling as though there is a big mental aversion to lots of the refined carb foods. That is how it feels for me too, a sort of sense of ‘who would even put that in their mouth’. Doesn’t always work, (chocolate at ‘that’ time of the month still seems tempting although I’ve resisted so far) but it is a useful reaction which helps me out loads of the time 😊

Hi Greenjanet, I knew there was someone who had started at the same time as me. I’m not surprised I got you and Yowzer mixed up, you both have the same lovely positive attitude.
I’m doing well, thank you. Like you I seem to have had a bit of faffing around time. I was feeling a bit disgusted with myself about not sticking so closely to the 800 calories when I first started my faffing. But then realised that I was still losing, just more slowly, and that my choices were staying pretty reliably good. So I’m feeling much more relaxed about it all now. I keep on having days where I push to be more strict and days where I just go with the flow and I’m starting to trust my own instincts more. I try very hard not to get stuck in the ‘oh no, I could have lost much more if I’d stayed stricter’ trap. As I look at it, I’m going to be eating like this for the rest of my days so I have to learn to balance it up instinctively. Sorry, I’m sure you didn’t want an essay πŸ˜„

I make my own yoghurt with a Easiyo kit. The Greek style works out to 82cal 7g carbs for 100g so it’s lower cal than the two you mentioned but higher carb. You just put a sachet with water in the thermos thing and it makes itself. Thick and delicious. And I can be certain that the yoghurt cultures are fresh and still alive.

Actually I save a lot of money by putting a couple a tablespoons of the sachet (which is yoghurt cultures with powdered milk) with 300 g normal powdered milk. A lot cheaper, and it still works. The sachet keeps forever in the freezer and makes lots of pots.

    hi Yowzer
a liter is the same as a kilo if its very liquid – so water or equivalent it is, and something like milk probably not too far off, but denser liquids will weigh more

I find cups a bit of a nightmare – a cup of water is about 240ml, so I generally hold it in my head as quarter of a litre. but with more dense liquids, like oil, I just google (or with oil, use as little as I think I can get away with).
One of the reasons for using fatsecret rather than MFP is that there are very few entries where the only unit of measurement is a cup.

BTW – Fatsecret did confirm to me by email the other day that the net carbs (ie carbs excluding fibre) that is standard in the UK doesn’t quite work on Fatsecret UK. If a food has less grams of fibre than carbs (which is the case with most things), it isn’t a problem.
If you have food with more fibre than carbs, you can’t enter it correctly in the database (there is an error message that the total carbs must be more than the fibre – or “Fiber” πŸ™‚ .
I think in the US, fibre as part of the carbs must be stated as sugar is on our labels – Total carbs X, of which sugars Y.

So – Fatsecret has a UK badged site, but not 100% thought through – they’re “working on it” allegedly
