Jules it might be a nice song but not when ordering a meal in a restaurant, unless I want Spring lamb. I speak excellent French (with a Yorkshire accent) and that helps with other languages, ie. pain bread in French, pan bread in Spanish. etc.

Try a pastry less quiche. Spray and line a muffin tray (bun tin) with torn up bacon or cured ham and drop your normal quiche egg mix into it and bake in the oven for 20 or so minutes. Scotch eggs but no breadcrumb coating and oven bake. Prunes wrapped in cured ham and cooked in the oven for 15 to 20 mins and pop on skewers.

Hi
I need some help with a family picnic I am organising at the beginning of March. I do have a small gas ring so I thought I would make a nice vegetable soup as it would be nice to have something hot given the time of year. I am reluctant to make sandwiches or the usual picnic stables of pies and quiches and would appreciate any suggestions any of you may have.

The book should be arriving tomorrow and I’m giving myself a couple of bays to study it, then aim to start in earnest on Sat 14th.
This is my first time joining a forum like this so I’m hoping it will give me the inspiration and support to stick with it this time (so many failed diets in the past)
My motivation (apart from general health and fitness of course) is a big trip coming up in the summer and I won’t forgive myself if I’m not in at least reasonable shape by then.
So let the journey begin! -

on 9 Jan 2017 at 21:24 in Welcome to the BSDHi all
Back at work now thankfully. I need to get back into my routine. The plan was to lose 10lbs over the four weeks. Weighed this morning and am still at the same weight as at the start of the challenge. I’ve now revised my goal and I’m aiming to lose 7lbs over the final two weeks.
Today has not been great food wise but finished dinner at 7.30pm. Going to try a fast from now till dinner time tomorrow night. I might even skip that dinner and see if I can make it to Wednesday morning!!!!!
I’ve read a few posts about whether or not to give clothes that are too big to charity shops. I think it’s a great idea. Much better than keeping them just in case.
Maharani Kitten I hope you had a great day on your birthday!

on 9 Jan 2017 at 21:01 in Welcome to the BSDVerano, no I am Aquarius, 7th Feb. Seems to me that we are expected to resist and resist and we do so well, but at this time of the year the bloody stuff doesn’t go away (for me the drink) and we can only resist so much until we crack. I know my thought was at least if I drink it it will be gone. You have said to me before, we are only human. Got it out of our systems and now it is time to settle down to BSD way of life again.
I am happy with the Duolingo lessons, they start with el hombre, un nino, una nina etc, so bringing in gender but keeping it simply and then brings in the personal pronouns like, I am – yo soy, you are, he is etc. By the time we go to Spain I should be able to asked for simple foods and book a table, say please and thank you. Last year I learnt Portuguese and my family made fun, everyone speaks English they said, until we went into a restaurant and the girl looked at us like we had 2 heads and said only Spanish or Portuguese, so I quite confidently asked for a table for 7. Simple but I was the only one who spoke the language. I just have to get the Portuguese out of my head and become Spanish.

Gosh, jmarie, 3.30 is the middle of the night…what time do you start work? I will never complain about mine again!
Learning the guitar sounds wonderful..it’s something I keep saying I’ll do but never get round do. Maybe in my next reinvention. Sitting cosy strumming while the rain falls outside is a lovely way to finish the holidays.
My peak, probably the nicest moment of the day was the new year drink I had with my learning English group this evening. We usually have the galette des rois and a glass of cider to celebrate epithany but this year I made some mince pies and cut up some Christmas cake and this is where the pit comes in, of course…
I ate 3 mince pies, honestly they went down so fast they didn’t touch the sides of my mouth. Do I regret it? A little but oh my they were good even if I say so myself…
Have a good day…

Mine not so great…I made mince pies for my learning English group but you can probably guess where this is going……they loved the mince pies and the three I tried were pretty good too. I’ve got my second group tomorrow who are absolutely not getting mince pies!
Feeling disappointed!

End of Day 7 and delighted to have found it easy. On my first work trip as was a bit worried about what I could eat but the M&S at the station saved me! I’ve found that if I have things I can grab and eat easily around, it’s been so easy-no fiddly weighing.
Time savers for me have been;
Pack of cherry tomatoes
Pack of sugar snap peas
Baby bel cheese
Pre sliced smoked salmon sandwich size ( Tesco)
Quorn ham
Tin no drain tuna
Pack of no drain olives
Bags of salad
Miso soup sachet
I’m really aware these are all high salt so I try to match something salty with the fresh. Staying under 50g carbs has taken a fair bit of calculation and I’ve yet to manage that whilst keeping fibre up.
I found a “4Head” stick stopped HEADACHES in their tracks . I am drinking SO much water I don’t think it’s that.
I’ve decided to have a little experiment with protein powders as a cooking ingredient. I found Protein Pow-a fantastic website with lots of protein recipes that are low carb. There’s bread, cake, wraps, biscuits, cheesecake, ice cream -all those high carb things that are out of bounds. And no sugar! Personally I’m going to stick with the bread and wraps to start. I want to get out of the cake/cookie habit so don’t want to tempt myself. I’ll report back what they are like.
I’ve cooked some lovely evening meals which have felt like treats so I don’t find I’m struggling. I try to go as long as I can during the day before I eat which has inadvertently meant I’m also doing the 16:8 fast!! More health benefits !! Today it was 2.30pm and I genuinely wasn’t ravenous at all.
I decided to go a week before I weighed or measured. I want to give myself the best chance of seeing something fabulous when I do! So Wednesday morning after I get back from my trip, I’ll know how I’ve done. Wish me luck!
Lots of love to you all- hope it’s going well with you all -

on 9 Jan 2017 at 20:01 in Fast ExerciseHi AnnaGoAnna – might be worth having a look at Pilates, as this is largely floor based. It would be worth attending a few classes, rather than trying to do it sole, at least to begin with. The instructors I have trained with, took into account any physical limitations when giving directions on the various exercises so that people didn’t overstressing areas of concern. Worth remembering too, that any physical activity over and above your normal level, will help to burn calories.

on 9 Jan 2017 at 19:53 in Welcome to the BSDYes the yogurt breakfast is my fall back breakfast, as there is so much that can be added to it to ring the changes. When I have time at the w/e, I swap to an egg and a rasher of bacon or smoked salmon for breakfast. Yogurt is amazingly versatile and the BSD is a great excuse to make spices your friends, as they add loads of flavour for no cals/carbs.
You would probably have been okay with the bacon, mushroom, spinach and mozzarella omelette, but you probably don’t want to hear that right now!

Nannyc, you could try dry frying some flaked almonds ( I do whole packets and store in a kilner jar) for when you need that yummy toasted nutty fix x
-
Hi Annagoanna and Nannyc, I started today too, we’re the 9th Jan club! I’m 44, single parent of 2 kids, work full time, had used 5.2 fasting 3 years ago and lost the stone I needed and kept it off for a couple of years, but the past year I have gained, and although not type 2 or even pre diabetic. I am over 2 stone above a healthy bmi, have been bingeing on carbs for too long and need a short sharp shock to reign things in so I can go back to maintaining with intermittent fasting.
Today was good, but as with 5.2 fast days, I do need to stock up on easy to prepare food. I used to survive my fast days with protein and salad or ready made and filling soups. This WOE is more complex with the protein /fat/sugar restrictions, so I am still trying to find my way and make sure I truly try and eliminate the sugar habit. (although I will never give up alcohol long term, it’s just too much of a pleasure!)
I have just taken my measurements and logged them on myfitnesspal app. I know that for the days when the scales don’t want to be nice, hopefully the tape measure will show results!

Looks like we do have similar tastes. Five weeks to your birthday does that make you Pisces!!!! My daughter is one!
Must admit the Spanish beginners 1 is really well organised. It’s a bit basic for me but it gets down to pronunciation almost immediately. Might be worth you taking a look. I remember when I first started my OU Spanish course the online tutor asked if I’d ever studied French. Basic difference is that in Spanish 98% of the letters are pronounced allthough there are odd exceptions!
I have had/ am having the day from hell today!!!!!
Have just suddenly, after 6 months, lost the plot ….. chocolates …. baileys truffles x 3 …. hero’s x 3 , cheese and onion crisps, which I HATE, end of a large bag, maybe a normal size packet, piece of fruit cake!!! Can’t believe what I’m writing here but at least there will be no more tonight!!!!
Scales will tell tomorrow!
Hope you are all having a better day than me. Good thing is now that I have ‘confessed’ I will be able to be ‘normal’again tonight!
-
I used to work nights years and years ago.
When I got up after a DAYS sleep I would have my breakfast.(Family had a cooked main meal for evening meal) During the night at work I would have my main meal in the canteen or take a salad with me. When I arrived home next morning I would perhaps have breakfast again. So I would have two breakfasts and one main meal in the 24 hours.
During the night I would drink plenty and possibly have a fruit snack/biscuits. I realise this is not BSD friendly to have fruit and snacks so perhaps now I would take a measured amount of nuts and a small chunk of cheese to nibble on. -

on 9 Jan 2017 at 19:04 in Welcome to the BSDHappy Birthday MK, I hope you are having a fabulous day. Sounds like you’ve come up with a plan regarding the jacket! I have an interesting side-effect in that being petite I can now shop in the children’s department (age 13/14 clothes)! There is actually VERY few things suitable for grown ups to wear because they tend to make kid’s clothing out of much thinner fabrics, but it’s amusing to think I could if I really wanted to ๐
Do any other ladies have the phenomenon with tights that are now so roomy you can tuck them into your bra band? He he!
-
Thank you both ๐ I’m been and got some nuts, big bottle of water and some herbal teas. Will see how I go!

Hi all, I started last Tuesday, so day 7 today. I’ve just been having two meals a day, no snacks apart from cream in coffee twice a day. Found it really easy, haven’t been hungry…
This morning I was 8lb down from my starting weight of 210.8lbs. Hopefully a little more off tomorrow for first week total, but I am happy with that as my 10% target is 21lbs. Inches going also.
I think I found this WOE easier as I have 5:2 before and my body is now used to that. When I first did 5:2 I felt weak and shaky and lightheaded on the fasting days, but after my body adjusted I seem to be able to fast even after months of eating and not have any of those effects. Interesting… -

Not for a night shift but I used to keep a mixture of nuts, seeds, cocoa nibs and pine nuts on my desk during long days with no time for lunch on a previous diet, maybe a few dried fruits as well, but be cautious with those as they are high carb. It was just nice to have something there that I could dip into and eat whenever I wanted.

on 9 Jan 2017 at 18:52 in Welcome to the BSDHappy birthday MK, my turn in 5 weeks
Anyone who has been on this site for a while will know that I had a mini goal of throwing out some scruffy knickers. Well when I reached a certain weight out went 3 pairs. Reading your stories of clothes no longer fitting because they are too big, I bought a 5 pack of panties from Sainsburys (I can call them panties now as they are not big knicks) and picked up a size 14. On reflection I decided to take them back and get size 12. All well and good, got them home and they are too big but in this cold weather they will keep my midriff warm as well as the other bits.

I sometimes jazz it up a little by stirring a teaspoon of cinnamon in or cocoa powder, but this is one i never get tired of. There are so many variations I can’t imagine running out of inspiration. I have used fresh figs, cocoa nibs and pine nuts as well, it feels really decadent if you get creative, almost more like a dessert.

on 9 Jan 2017 at 18:22 in Starting the BSDMy husband is a wonderful cook and Sunday roast yesterday was a cheat day for me, twice as much carbs as I should have ๐ He made some home made soup and his soups are always delicious, he’s very supportive of my diet and understands the basic no bread, potato, rice, pasta so I never thought to ask him what was in it. After I’d eaten it I asked him what was in it. He gave me all the ingredients and ended with ‘…. and one small potato.’ He thought one small potato wouldn’t make that much difference but when I checked it actually has 24g carbs! So today has been a bit of a bust as well ๐ Need to pull my socks up tomorrow and get back on track.
Well done to all sticking with it despite the headaches. I didn’t suffer with any of that thankfully.

on 9 Jan 2017 at 18:18 in Starting the BSDYay, almost at the end of day one.
So a bit more info about me, I am 44, 5’6″ weigh 13 stone 2 pounds (but this is a recent Xmas binge eating gain, have been 11.5 stone for last 18 months, but started emotional bingeing on carbs and alcohol a few months ago!)
However, after doing 5.2 previously I know I am happiest weight and healthwise at around the 10 stone 10 mark. And that is a healthy bmi for me.I am very disorganised, throw myself headlong into diets and tend to like simple easy non faff meals at the start of any new eating regime, I know that after 2 weeks of this I will be finding it relatively easy, and then I can take some time to cook more thoughtful meals, but for now, I just need quick fixes of meals that fill me up with minimal faff!
So my day one menu has been:
2 eggs scrambled in microwave served with half an avocado, salt and pepper
Tin of sardines in tomato sauce!
2 fresh coffees with semi skimmed milk (need to buy cream instead this week!)
2 large slices of Aldi tourchon ham rolled up with full fat cream cheese, spinach rocket and watercress
1 walnut.
1 or maybe 2 cups of tea with semi skimmed milk
3 litre of fizzy water
Roll on tomorrow and hopefully a pound or 2 less on the scales!
-
Hi
NannyC, me too. Today hasn’t been too bad but like you the evening is my bugbear! However I’ve been good at clearing out my cupboards in preparation and plan on doing the 30min activity throughout the evening which hopefully will mean that I’m getting up and doing something every 30mins and therefore not time to ‘forget’ and be naughty. Hope you’re evening is OK.
Tyrefighter. I’m really hoping to lose a large amount initially so that it will, I hope, keep me motivated as I’m able to see a change. Definitely weighing myself daily – I’ve got some Withing scales so they also have my BMI recorded as well as weight. It’ll be interesting to see the changes.
