Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated. I’ve just checked my BP and that’s down 10/8 which is more important to me at the moment. It usually varies quite a bit so I’m hoping to see that going down in the long term.
I’m sure 11lb of the 12 is water judging by the number of times I’ve been to the loo. Let’s see what next week brings with all that delicious chocolate to tempt me.

Hi Hallie
I’d say it was best to push through. We don’t want to keep that carb monster happy. The more we allow carbs in the longer it will take to get them out of our system.
Most people find that adding fat into their diet, and drinking plenty of water helps with the hunger pangs.
Great loss of 5 pounds π

Hi hallie, try to push through if you can, it will soon improve if you do.
Try a hot drink, even hot water with a splash of lemon, I don’t know why but hot drinks can ease the hunger pangs π

This thread has been very helpful and reassuring for me! Thank you! X

posted by Hippo100 on The 8-week blood sugar diet book
on 25 Mar 2016 at 20:49 in Welcome to the BSDAlmost at the end of the 8 weeks now. I am pleased to report that both hubby and I have now lost 24 pounds each – nearly 2 stones! We both feel much better. In fact I had forgotten what it was like to feel this well π Great news. Had my average 3 month blood test at week 7 and my result was 8.6 down from 11.8. I will have another test in about 8 weeks time (providing my doctor will do this, rather than at 12 weeks) and I hope by then my average is down to under 6.5. I understand from the book that I need to lose 15% of my body weight to reverse diabetes, which is about 42 lbs and therefore understand why I’m not quite there yet. Armed with better understanding of carbs, sugar etc, hubby and I are now ‘branching out’ and trying new recipes found in magazines and on the internet. We cannot thank Dr Mosely enough. Top man.

Oh sooze, i am sorry. I think i should be asleep it looks like I have brain fatigue π
-
Sounds like you have answered your own question MT. We all have fluctuations due to hormones so if this is a pattern you are familiar with, it may well continue for you. Or the lack of carbs in the long term may even improve things on that front. You will see from the other threads here that plateaus are quite common on this program, as is inch loss with apparently no weight loss. You are getting inch loss so you are going in the right direction. Keep going and your weight loss will soon catch up.

That’s a very reassuring experiment you did Judith, a great way of testing that its the low carb thing that makes the real difference for us. I haven’t counted calories for a couple of weeks now, only carbs (50 grams a day) and I am happily still losing weight.
-
Hey All, (well ladies mostly!)
I lost 7 lbs in week one and was amazed!
This week, I have been Super strict after gaining 3lbs as a result of a weekend reunion with old friends and too much wine in week 2 ππ, but on weighing myself, at week 3, I have stayed the same. My trousers are a lot looser in the thigh and I was looking forward to yet more weight loss, so I was very upset when the scales didn’t budge!! I am premenstrual though, and I usually feel that I retain fluid at this time every month. So ladies, help! Can you relate to this? Thanks in advance π -
Hi guys, this is a great thread :-). On day five now and I have to say it is getting harder. Day one and two I wasn’t really hungry, it was the cravings that were killer. Today and yesterday though I have felt very weak and really hungry all the time. At what point did you guys start to feel better? Thinking of adding a few spoonfuls of brown rice to my cauliflower rice tonight because I don’t feel great. Or is it better to push through?
On the plus side, I weighed myself on Wednesday morning and I’d already lost 5lb :-).
-
Erm, it’s sooze actually…….I’m not asleep yet lol π
-
LOL. don’t know what time he opens and I’ve never been in. Apparently he opens for a few hours, then closes at 9 so he can deliver to restaurants etc. π³ x

Hi Lucia – some info for you so you can decide π
Tyrrells Poshcorn lightly salted β I found it at the gym last year and the headline on it 80cals. Oh good I thought and ate the bag in one sitting.
Actually the bag contains 70g and the recommended portion is 17g! The calories per 17g portion at 83 cals, so per bag that is 341 cals. Carbs per 17g is 8.3g.
Not so low calories!
Ingredients – Popped Corn, Sunflower Oil, Sea Salt.Breakdown per 100g;
Protein 8.3g
Fat 25.5g
Carbs 50.2g.Data taken from Waitrose website β no idea what the other 15g are!
These are βmoreishβ so I personally wonβt have them in the house just now just looking at the carbs β 50% carbs. -
Great, bruno π
-
Popcorn is pure carbohydrate. 16 grams in half a cup so I wont be having any, sorry.
-
H Hashimoto,
That’s the petition signed.
I’m in Scotland and thankfully we are still part of the UK π -
Thanks snooze39 π

Closes at 9am ? ? ?? The mind boggles!! Does it open at midnight? X
-
Him hardy the woodman
I loved the bit where you said not a carb person unless it’s covered in chocolate, I have exactly the same problem! Anything covered in chocolate and I would eat it, ( nearly!) You seem to have done ok on your first week so all I can say is keep it up and thank you for making me smile, looking forward to reading your further posts. -
Nearest train station is Durham, Judith. It’s not that bad, just takes planning. You get into the routine.
Only shops in the village are two convenience stores (one is also the Post Office), chemist, newsagent and a butchers that closes at 9am!
So I either have to travel for food shopping or do it online. x

Signed.

Hi scotgran,
Your post about where did all the posts go, gave me a light bulb moment! I was having the same problem, when I saw your post made me look at the forum and I did a bit of exploring and have now got my head round how things work, so a big thank you for your post. I have already said I am useless at this sort of thing! -
Great start! Well done!
-
So another question for you all……
what do we think of plain shop bought popcorn as a quick snack?
Not the toffee or pink stuff, just the white one.
Any comments ?
I was told by a neighbour that she had just bought some to fill her up, with less calories?I don’t know, so I have opened it up to my band of experts.
Thanks
Love Lucia

Hi folks, a few of us on here started this petition asking the NHS to encourage T2 diabetics to follow the blood sugar diet, we would love for as many signatures as possible!! 10000 and the government must respond. 100000 and it should be heard in the House.
We can put it on facebook, twitter, email it to friends etc

on 25 Mar 2016 at 19:29 in Welcome to the BSDJpscloud that is marvellous! Thanks for signing. My doctor looked at my results ( I took in my own data and the book) and then wrote down the title because she was going to order one for herself and one for her mother!!! Just to lose weight!!
Thanks Malkay!!
Thanks Lynne for facebooking and putting it on twitter! I’ve only been on facebook since the autumn and haven’t dipped my toes into any other social media yet.
Thanks Sharon for putting it on facebook tooUp the revolution fellow BSDers!!! π

Just signed. Great idea – I’ll share on FB too.

Great news, Bruno! 33lbs in 7 weeks is fantastic! You are so right about this being a way of life now. π
If you live in the UK would you mind signing the petition we have got going? It’s to ask the NHS to encourage T2 diabetics to follow this diethttps://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/125704
Thanks and well done

I brandished the book at my dr last Monday and she gave me her blessing to try it.

Hi I experimented with raising my calories last week, I had finished the 8 weeks but wanted to continue….but this nagging fear of what would happen if I ate more would not go away…..well I had a week of 1000 to 1200 calories a day for a week. I didn’t put any weight on, it just stayed stable, I even lost half a pound!!! 1000 to 1200 was what I was eating before and still putting weight on. The difference was I did not eat bread, potatoes ,pasta or rice. I stuck to the principles of the diet.
Lynne has made a good point, forget the carbs!!! Stick to the principles of the diet. Eating the old way got us into this trouble in the first place! The only exceptions I will make are perhaps a roast potato and parsnip on Xmas day or other celebrations.
Like Janet I will return to the fast 800 if any weight creeps back on and get it sorted.
May I ask if you would sign this petition:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/125704It is to ask the NHS to encourage T2 diabetics to follow this diet
Thanks π -
Hi Everyone,
Great to hear how you are all doing.
I’m at the end of week seven and at my weigh in today I’ve lost a total of 33lbs.
For all of you who find your weight stalls occasionally don’t let it get you down.
I weigh myself on a Friday and occasionally I’ve jumped on the scales on a Tuesday and found I’ve lost nothing, but it soon gets going again.
For me it’s now more of a way of life than a diet. -
thanks π
-
Again, thanks for the replies. Interesting point, FiFiP, about the liver processing the old gunk – hadn’t thought of that. I am a bit concerned, though, that I have been doing the diet for 7 weeks, so would have expected any benefits to be showing, rather the opposite. My family has had hereditary high cholesterol, both my parents had it, and my brother has been on statins for 30 years, but my previous readings have always been ok. If I am starting to have problems, I’m not sure how important it is health-wise. I know doctors get really hung up on high cholesterol, but I have a feeling there are vested interests regarding prescribing statins.
I seem to remember on one of Michaels tv programmes he went for a walk after his evening meal, and it made a positive difference to his morning cholesterol levels. I’ll try that before my test on Tuesday! -
It sounds really difficult to get around, Lynne. is it easy to get to a train station or is that just as difficult? x

Hi folks could I ask you if you would mind signing this petition? It is a proposal that the NHS should encourage people to try this diet.
If the link doesn’t work just google petition, NHS to encourage
-
Hi tree peony, I hope the link works!! A few of us have posted this to our facebooks. Once you get to the petition there are icons for emails, facebook and twitter.
-
No worries! All the best to you Christi.

Well, That is truly horrific!!! Tree peony, if you haven’t already, please would you sign the petition we have started?
I will try and post the linkPetition
NHS to encourage the treatment of type 2 diabetes with a low carbohydrate diet.Professor Taylor has shown that Type 2 diabetes can be reversed using a low carbohydrate, low calorie diet. The NHS has announced it is rolling out a programme to give pre-diabetics lifestyle help. There is no mention of the blood sugar diet which pre-diabetics and diabetics should be following.

Hi Janet1973
There are some good idea there, think I might pinch them, I needed inspiration and reassurance, I know this post wasn’t for me, however thank you
-
Presumably because it makes it sell better! I didn’t know either until I started asking which sauces were sugar free and got the horrific answer…. none of them!
It’s endemic, I’m afraid…. π

Hello Malkey
My husband was diagnosed with high cholesterol levels in his early 50’s, it transpired that it was a hereditary problem.
He has to have regular blood tests for cholesterol, but it’s always fasting, 12 hours.
He has joined me on BSD to see if he can bring down his levels naturally, so that he can stop or reduce the statins, which give him unpleasant side-effects.
I’d hang on in there, it might be ketosis, your liver & kidneys processing what’s been sitting there for a while, or it could be because you had eaten before the test.
Also as Hashimoto says, 4 years ago means a lot of water under the bridge.
Good luck!
-
Welcome merrymary, you won’t regret your decision. This is far easier than the 5:2! You may feel a bit hungry the first few days but then you find you are satisfied with the 800 calories π
-
Just noticed you get it redone next week. π
-
Hi malkay, when bill posted his blood test results 4 weeks into the diet I noticed his cholesterol was lower than his pre diet results. And bill always reminds people to eat fat.
Your lower cholesterol reading was 4 years ago so a lot might have been happening in those last 4 years that you weren’t aware of.
I would say don’t worry and ask to have test repeated in two months π
-
Tree peony I have always made my own indian foods i had no idea restaurants added sugar. Sorry for giving wrong advice. Why do they put sugar in? I’m actually gagging here at the thought π
-
I would avoid korma tbh. There is quite often sugar added to the sauce π
Tikka is good π

It definitely worked for me to give myself permission to have a day off. I’m back on it today and feeling fine about it. I am not good at strict adherence to diets but the fact that this one gave such quick weight loss results helped. Part of me is disappointed that I didn’t make it through the first week but part of me also knows that’s how I work and I will just do my best to stick to it now.
