Oh the relief! I finally found a bra that fits.
I have lost 2 1/2 stone since January and the chaps are looking rather deflated. It took me three hours to find a bra that fits yesterday, but now I feel fab. I feel slender rather than saggy! I guess that is what happens when you lift your boobs back above your waistline.
I am a trained bra fitter, so I know what I am doing, but it still took ages for me to find something comfortable and uplifting. Ended up buying from Peacocks.

I wish I could at times.
I would have to take my iPad to bed and read the newspapers. I couldn’t just lie there, wish I was able.

My body woke me up around six, with two huge sneezes,
Now 6 is a lie in for me.

Hoping to go to the gym this weekend for the first time.

Yes you’re not whisking it up like meringues just getting the ingredients combined and smooth really. It might work ok with other nuts as well.

I don’t want to give the illusion that this is like the shop bought wrapped up in toffee – it isn’t. But it is very nice. Mine came out sticky like many of the comments in the recipe say. I transferred it on the sheet into the freezer for a while before breaking it up, then I kept it in the freezer and it doesn’t even need thawed before you eat it πŸ™‚

if you want to have a bit of crunch without too many calories you could crumble a little just on top of your fish or chicken etc rather than coating the whole thing.

I’m no expert as I’m not diabetic either but I do believe there are alternatives to metformin and if you go back to your doctor explaining they are making you ill I would hope you could get to try something else.

  • Izzy agree – it’s a matter of understanding and awareness of how achievable health is… I offered to be an advocate or reference for when NHS [and thus the nurse] becomes LCHF aware. In a way it was slightly disappointing that its going to take them a while to change – the nurse bought the book though, so it’s a start.

  • Great results Jackie congratulations on being ‘normal’ lol

I’d argue a little with the nurses opinion though. Most people don’t prefer biscuits to health I think it’s just that people don’t understand they are addicted and don’t realise how within quite a short time they could realise they don’t mind avoiding biscuits. How achievable this is.

Congratulations on being able to maintain, in some ways that is a bigger achievement than losing weight! Healthy and happy years ahead for you I hope πŸ™‚

the milk is fine it’s full fat and added in to your calories. So long as no sugar is added.

I don’t know if it would work as I don’t drink coffee but I’ve been using almond milk for hot choc. The unsweetened version is really low calorie.

I haven’t any pre-alcohol food advice as I’m not drinking these days but I’d recommend keeping the Vodka drinks to the minimum you can.

    Hi all!
I know we are allowed a splash of whole milk in coffee which iv been having as I CANNOT do with out but is the rule- don’t have any because of its effect on cravings etc of is it ok to work into the 800 calories?
I just had a homemade latte with 100ml hot whole milk- IS THIS ILLEGAL?!

Also- I am going out tonight and not drinking isn’t an option so I plan to drink vodka sodas in addition having had the 800 cal of food.
Any tips for pre drinking diet friendly food to prevent boozy snacking?

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Lynne
congratulations Lynne, that’s brilliant, well done

    – and supremely commendable for all that baking and no sneaky tastes! Banana muffins – YUM
hope that you have a good day, and that the weather is dry and sunny where you are.

I’ve never quite get cupcakes – they look amazing, but I always find all the goo on top a bit too much. Now the fairy cakes my mum used to make when I was little on the other hand……
She also used to make the best chocolate eclairs that I have ever tasted. (and I have eaten soooo many over the years just to see if they came anywhere close to my Mum’s) And amazing lemon meringue pie.

Glad I’m not the only one coveting boots! I was worried that I’d lose weight but not on my calves, but when I measured at the end of one month BSD, I had lost half an inch on each calf, which is promising – but I take a size 8, which is why at 5’4″ I think I should really be a lot taller! y sister is a little bit shorter than me, but has dainty size 4’s.

    – and not the only one who’s a bit sceptical about BMI averages either.
I had to google ectomorphs, etc – I’m definitely an endomorph!

Good grief Lucia I’m feeling guilty just reading that… normally I’d be giving you a run for your money jogging as my daughter does her paper round on her bike. But she injured herself at gymnastics so this morning I took her round in the car. Then came home and got back into bed with mug of tea and (shhh) a wee bit chocolate. I still have to cut grass and clean house but will need to be VERY good food wise for the rest of the day. Taking my mum and the girls out later this morning though, so cannot spend too long in bed. Not sure there is a naughty girl emoji I can use….

    Hi captainlynne,
When I saw your post I thought ‘Lynne’s up bright and early for a Saturday’. Then I read that your Summer Fair is on today. Well done with your baking for the fair. It’s really worth the effort when you see collectively at the end of the day how much money fairs etc can raise.
Your weight loss is remarkable. The BSD is awesome – I have a lot to lose but have already bypassed a body ‘set weight’ that I’d struggled getting below on all other diets I’ve tried. The fact that you could go on holidays and feel comfortable sticking to the principles of the BSD then come home and have lost weight says loud and clear ‘This way of life works’.
Congratulations to you for having passed the 6 month mark – party in the club house tonight in honor of you!
    Have a happy day Lynne.

Hi everyone. End of week 26 results. Another 3 pounds lost making a total of 67 pounds lost to date. πŸ˜ƒ Weight now 11 stone 3 pounds. πŸ˜ƒ

In the past I always used to struggle when my weight dropped below 12 stone until I reached 10 stone 13 pounds – but not on bsdπŸ˜ƒ

On Thursday and Friday I did a lot of baking for today’s Summer Fair at church, making 2 banana loaves, 6 banana muffins, 2 Madeira cakes, 2 cherry loaves and 24 cupcakes (to be decorated this morning). And I didn’t even lick my fingers! Just hope they’re all ok as I can’t taste test😱

  • I finished a couple of weeks ago and am so far just eating a healthier but not abstemious diet to maintain. Reductions in weight, waist, fat content and hugely increased positivity and energy, were all very significant but I wanted to PASS THE TEST! I had decided not to monitor glucose on a frequent basis, so trusted nervously that if all the other signs were good then my blood sugars, as indicated by glycated haemoglobin, *must* drop…

Finally got the reading yesterday and yes the blood sugar diet works! Dr Mosley will be relieved.
My reading of 48 dropped to 39 after 8 weeks [and presumably may fall lower as it’s a 3 month average]. So I’m officially normal.

The nurse, whilst congratulating me, said that most people prefer biscuits to health…

After a really nice meal (beef bourgignon, left all but a single forkful of potato, not desert), I got an attack of munchies on the way back to the hotel, had to have chocolate. Local sainsburys had a very resistable selection of cadbury’s etc – BUT some “Graze” packs. Deconstructed chocolate cherry cake, yum. Not good, but better than desert. And I did do lots of waking yesterday
A few very good dark chocolate buttons, semi dried cherries and pecans – 180 cals and 22 carbs I think. Oh well, could have been worse.
Only problem is that I now know these very lush treats are a five minute walk away, MUST RESIST!!!

I did get a mini pack of seeds as well – probably a very expensive way of buying them, but I got hungry very early yesterday, so will add them to my breakfast yoghurt. Its called Omega mix, 50p for 25g

I am back. I lost three pounds, fell off the diet due to complete idiocy and returned to bsd last Sunday. I can’t explain my ups and downs….it was like …..I go to Waitrose for a dedicated BSD shop only…come back home….open the bag…and in there, are crusty bread rolls, organic plum jam and a bottle of wine. Who knew?
Anyway, I am off the wine, lost the same three pounds again and having another go? Watch this space. Love from Janet.x

Perhaps because meditation gives you a rare and focussed awareness of you? You are focussing on the ‘breath of life’ after all so you can’t get much more in tune. Importantly meditation teaches you to “let go” so clearly can allow emotional release. It’s also why meditation has a spiritual dimension for many – you can feel in touch with the universe [whatever that means!].

With practice you *may* get used to the emotional side, but be aware that not everyone is comfortable with that aspect of meditation, and perhaps get personal guidance if it is troubling. I have a friend who is frightened of doing it because he literally doesn’t want to be alone with his thoughts. There are other forms of mindfulness, like yoga, or simply practising an activity with focus that might be more appropriate for others.

On a simple breathing level meditation can be very moving as the breath holds many emotions. I surprised myself recently doing the MBSR course and trying a ‘Loving Kindness’ meditation, where you bring to mind those you love, by getting teary during the meditation. I have another story about a guided meditation and being given a gift a the end of a journey which felt all too real and was a [longed for] child … 9 months later guess what? [tears right now at the memory]. So for me that enhanced emotional awareness and release is a very positive aspect of meditation.

Izzy, I think there’s so many people joining or lurking anew daily that repetition is going to be key or they may miss out on this info if they don’t read the right threads, in time it will be swallowed up. I’m going to invest in a bag, probably 1kg first to see how I get on with it. I had thought about using them as a coating but they were so calorific for the size that I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Wah.

Josie, I’m not diabetic but a quick google search says that it is a problem for a lot of people. I just put ‘Metformin tiredness side effects’ in a search and ‘extreme fatigue’ and ‘chronic fatigue’ were coming up a lot. If it were me I would go back to my GP and tell him/her, is there an alternative that you could take, or is it pretty much that or nothing? Sorry, I know nothing about this sort of stuff, I’m on this diet for weight reasons only.

    Positives for today:
Getting on the scales and seeing that I have lost 10lb in a fortnight!!!!!!!!!
Realising that I don’t need all those carbs, haven’t really missed them
Went shopping without a list and didn’t buy unhealthy food – ie, pastries!

Negative for today – on nights for three nights and want to eat, so had my salad bits – turned into a positive!

  • Hard to believe it’s been a month since I dropped by! Recovery, training a new assistant, and tracking down all my students who scattered to the wind while I was out (for a week) has taken all my spare time, and more.

The tumor was 1.3 cm, only about half the size they expected (odd since it was measured on 2 different MRI machines at between 2.1 and 2.6 cm), so solidly stage 1, grade 1- the very early stages of cancer, still with all of the best receptors. I’m now healing before radiation – likely early July, assuming I follow their recommendation to have radiation. The radiation creates a very small risk of a very deadly cancer – so my choice is a slightly higher risk of a likely slow-growing cancer OR a much smaller risk of a cancer I could not detect early enough to save myself from it. Typically, if there is a small percentage and a large percentage outcome, I end in the small percentage – reliably enough that I’ve had doctors refuse to make predictions, expressly because their earlier predictions have all been wrong.

I’m down another 5 lbs. I’m not intentionally losing weight, but the idea of upping the fat in my already very fatty diet enough to maintain just isn’t very appetizing to me. That’s compounded by the fact that the physical stress of surgery elevated my blood glucose again – so after being consistently in the ranges reported above, my fasting BG has been pretty consistently slightly higher than 5.55 since surgery. I’ve been lowering carbs to nudge it back down, but that means upping fats even more. Discouraging. And discouraging that my weight may be too low for me to be comfortable going back to 800 calories for another 8-week stint (since I had to interrupt this one for cancer treatment).

There seems to be a slight turn-around the past week – and today 5.55 is the highest reading I’ve had. So, perhaps, progress!

I’ll be very irregular here until early August (and then I’ll have to see what the fatigue does).

Enjoy your week off. Time is such a precious commodity. It can really work in your favour when it comes to the BSD by lowering stress levels which lowers cortisol levels – so sing, sing, sing – and walk and eat the BSD way.
Is OH still watching the footy?
It’s got me thinking about BSD style footy food. I’d have to go with: 30g gruyere cheese, gherkins and olives – all washed down with sparkling water and a wedge of lemon and lime.
    Best wishes.

Izzy I have been very careful regarding alcohol. During June I have only had some on 3 days totaling at the most 1.5 bottles of wine and 1 measure of gin. These were all planned for social occasions; I haven’t had any alcohol at home for weeks.
I have the BSD as an EBook and I think that I will buy a real one so I can mark pages with post it notes and a highlighter.
Following the BSD I haven’t felt hungry at all. I am the fittest that I have been for ages.
    Onwards and downwards.

Thanks Nettle, I dont expec this to be easy at all, I will increase fat intake as you recommend if I get stuck. My diet plan looks like this:

2 chicken breasts with half a brocolli and other veg cooked in 2 spoons of oil
1 whey protein drink made with unflavoured plain whey and 1 apple, 30 grams of real peanut butter ( the ones with the skin in and no added sugar etc) + fibre supplement added to the drink.

This gives me 800 cals and a variety of fat and protein and means im only cooking once. This will be two meals as the 2 chicken breasts will last a long time in terms of digestion. I prefer the idea of 2 meals a day on low calories.

So sorry to hear about your mum. I am not surprised stress affects the readings and you really seem to be going through it. I went through years of taking my Dad out on a Friday to give my mum some respite. Even now 2 years on from him passing I still sometimes stop dead and marvel over how very much less stressed I am since then. When I was not seeing him I was worrying about him and how my mum continued to cope – she was his rock in every single aspect of life, not just his personal care. He had brain damage from head injuries but also diabetes, peripheral neuropathy and retinopathy (loads of eye ops). This is why I did the diet! As you say, there’s nothing like watching a close family member go through it to make you sit up and make changes! But in your case I think if you were to take readings before and after meals you might be encouraged with the results. Your stickability is impressive under the circumstances. Well done on the weight loss and no doubt you’ll get there in the end.

i really like the Aldi greek yoghurt and it lasts me for 5 breakfasts, i mixed a couple of teaspoons of this with a couple of teaspoons of creme fraiche to put on the top of my vegetable lasagne, also using spinach instead of pasta. They do Halloumi as well much cheaper than everyone else.

I have not bought into the Almond flour that lots of you are talking about. Saving that obsession for later into the plan, is anyone else new to Metformin and have they found that they are consumed by tiredness.
