I’ve made it a few times, I don’t use sweeteners, I use a garlic or herb cream cheese. It works fine for me and is not to calorific for 2 pieces.

posted by Ziggy on The results of following BSD for 12 weeks after being diagnosed diabetic
on 21 Jul 2016 at 19:23 in Welcome to the BSDGood to read that the diet worked for you Pukekogirl. Have you tried testing before and after a carby meal to see if your BGs act normally or still spike and don’t come back to normal quickly?
Reason I am asking is that I AM a type 2, but through low carbing my HbAic has been in the normal range since diagnosis – 7 years, but I know I am still diabetic as a carby meal still sends my Bgs much higher than they would send the BG of a non-diabetic person. Hence my embarking on the BSD, to try to get my insulin working again properly.

You can make ‘cloud bread’ – from eggs and a very few other ingredients. Good as burger baps, or a sandwich, best used a day after making from fridge overnight

Hey Keeptrying — I was interested in your issue so I did a bit of reading. There IS a condition called “transient hypercholesterolemia” — it is the elevation of cholesterol that occurs with fat loss. When fatty acids are mobilized (ie you are burning fat), cholesterol is released as well and serum levels of cholesterol can spike. The evidence suggests that the effect will vanish with further successful weight loss, regardless of the fat-content of the diet. So, before changing your diet, ask your physician about this and try losing more weight FIRST to see if that affects your cholesterol numbers. If losing more weight and getting closer to your appropriate BMI does not result in lower cholesterol then you can address it as necessary.

posted by blessedenough on I am new and this is my first day
on 21 Jul 2016 at 18:41 in Starting the BSD1960 will post recipe shortly just need to dig it out. Argh just eaten way over my cal allowance but I kept my carbs below 50g, so limited damage. I had cheese slices at lunch with the plan of skipping dinner- rookie move. Lesson learnt.

LOL I’m too new to this yet to notice the clothes looseness, but I definitely have some goal clothes that have been sitting there for a few years that I would love to get into. Thanks for being an inspiration. π

B – yogurt with a few grams of cocoa, some omega seed mix and 4g honey
L – pancake made with one egg and 10g hemp protein powder, topped with 40g smoked salmon
D – Chicken with a lemon sauce and cauli rice blitzed with fresh basil -
Hi green Janet,

Doing sit ups to get rid of itππππ

How have we all been feeling in the heat wave if the uk?
Now that snow is forecast (maybe I exaggerate a little) have we all been a little limp?
do we need to put a little more effort in to it all?
So how are you all going to shake your booty?I am up for any new ideas as I think I have done it all.
Oh, oh, I know, hubby was romantic the other week and bought me some weights. Cattle bells, may have a go at swinging the around my legs.
Why did he buy them for me?
My carrier bag split and a can of baked beans launched itself into outer space, killing a kitchen cupboard on the way. He says I should do less damage with them…. Little does he know πππππππππ
Love Lucia

The nemesis of the British cook, Josie, that’s what a cup is lol. For one, I think US cups are different to our cup sizes (anyone confirm??) but if you dig around enough online you can find what a cup of a certain foodstuff is in grams
-
what is a cup generally anyone know
-
Yes it was the maple one. I bought a bottle the other day for a teaspoon or something ridiculous, in a recipe. Used to love maple syrup on pancakes, wonder what it’s like on chickpea wraps??? Or is that asking too much from the chickpea wrap?
Thank you Josie π How are you doing, are you winning?
-
hooray very well done
-
Thanks LACal – I set out intending to do it monthly, and missed by a few days this time.
I try and set as many potential achievements as I can – then I can always be celebrating something! Even when you don’t measure though, you still get the reminder of clothes being too big! -
First time making them. I substituted a bit of the almond flour with our old staple, gram flour. Added a bit of olive oil as dough seemed a bit crumbly. No problem getting them off the paper (used a fish slice!) Added a bit of parmesan to some for a pimp.
I’m only making one cake tomorow although might divide a litle of the mix off to bake seperately.. for testing purposes of course. Probably safer to test before I confront the family with it!! Don’t want my sister getting all smug if it fails, do I?!
Let me know how the cupcakes go. Do they have maple syrup in them? If so, that’s why I vetoed the recipe.. of all the useless, expensive ingredients I’ve purchased recently, that is the one I don’t have to hand!
-
I’ve made them a couple of times now, there’s garden peas in the sauce too and I add red pepper and onion too to bulk it out a little. Plus, food without onion sometimes can be a bit bland. Wondered why they were so good this time and I remembered I made it from my head last time and left out the spices. Plus I used a heaped normal metal teaspoon of each spice this time instead of a level one.
Have you made them before Janey? I have, but with ground almonds. Turned out ok, if a bit faffy getting them off the paper I rolled them between. Had the thumbs up from hubby who had some of his favourite Lancashire cheese on them.
Me too. Hey, how will you know if cake is nice? Are you making two? I’m going for the one Eps put up but in cupcake form. I’ve got a nice selection of cupcakes in the freezer now! The blueberry almond ones, the banana ones from the other day and I’ll hopefully have nice choccie ones too tomorrow!
-
Ooh meatballs do sound good Lucky!
and you can send one of your mousses to me Eps.. I’m willing to take one for the team.
I have just baked Elana’s salt n pepper crackers. First impressions.. look and taste ok, although I’m waiting for them to cool. All this so I can have a bit of goats cheese later!!
tomorrow is CAKE BAKING DAY
-
Awesome results Frog!! 6 inches off your waist!?! That’s awesome. I keep meaning to take measurements and then get busy and forget, this is a good reminder to just do it!
-
They were. And a portion left over for freezing, handy little lazy tea there one night! Might get my backside into gear and do some now (and someone else might do the dishes then π always thinking)
They’ll be waiting for me when I get off…
-
Yes me too, I have done very little but planning good walk later. Meatballs sound delicious!
-
I’ve just had the most divine meatballs. Just minced pork, garlic, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, cumin and ground coriander in a tomato and paprika sauce. Meant to be sweet paprika but I used hot paprika cos I’m a rebel like that. Excelled myself and stuffed now! Need to do some walking again though Eps, I’m languishing around the 2000 mark – again! Cooler tonight though and earlier so might get an hour in before rugby (watching not playing btw).
-
I’m game if there’s chocolate mousse involved…
-
I’m making them – definitely!!! Will have to find people to eat the other 4 though… any one like to visit? ;-))
-
Mini goals are good, great ideas Lucky! I might try it too as I sense this last 9kg will be slower than the first 10!!! Will still get there though…YES!
-
YUM!!!!!
That’s all I have to say.
All jokes aside, I think I might be addicted to chocolate even more than I was… like I only have one square of 85%/70% but omg it tastes just….better than anything. Maybe I need more magnesium or something!
-
Au contraire. It has NO almond involvement.. and a LOT of heroin chocolate. Whoop de doo!
-
Ooooh I was wrong!
-
Before I click the link, let me guess. It contains almond flour… and no chocolate…?
-
Timmy – THANK YOU, you’ve broken it for me. I was staring at creme fraiche in Aldi wondering why I wanted to buy it, hubby couldn’t think so I didn’t buy it. Twas the steak meal.
Omg Janey, can you imagine??? How brilliant would that be? And yes, Tokyo, for comedy effect, that would be funny.
I know Eps! Eeeeeeek! I love figures and stats, you see, hence my list of forty thousand mini goals. I think I have a goal for every pound. Probably. Ok, I’m not that bad but I’ve crossed off… ten since I’ve started; Half a stone, get into 16 stone bracket, lost 5% of body weight, lost a stone, lost a stone and a half, get into 15 stone bracket, lost 10% of body weight, get under 100 kilos, lost two stone, and today BMI is officially under 40! Next goals are 6lb off for 2 and a half stone, and 8lb to get me into the 14 stone bracket!!
-
-
wow that’s amazing – and not all that long at all!!
-
Thanks SunnyB. I’ve followed the low carb eating before, but I haven’t restricted cals to 800 like this before. Low carb has always been my best weight loss WOE, but I just get stopped by stress or going on vacation. I’m going to try to stay on plan for the full 8 weeks and can’t wait to see the results.
-
So you’re going at 5x the speed Lucky! Therefore the 81 weeks is achievable in just over 16!!! That’s before Xmas!
Even crying into a pinny whilst holding an appalling brownie (the cake not the girl guide type) would be funny Tokyo π
-
Well if you want a meal that is a raging success, try the steak and creme fraiche thing I was on about the other day.
I did it again on Sunday for the whole family. Even my kids were smashing in the medium rare fillet steak. Absolutely lush it is.
-
Omg Eps 110 weeks to my goal when I started, and 81 weeks now! So that’s…29 weeks I’ve gone down in 6 real weeks! Way to speed up time! Wooooooo!
-
Oh Timmy, last Friday… it was a bit of a bugger all round. Everything we tried to cook turned to crap. Lessons were learned.
I’m going to just input my start weight in Eps and see how many ‘Up weeks’ I’ve gone down in 6 real weeks!
-
well all i can say you rottern buggers!!! tokyo in a bus !!!!!!! i think not or with a hedge i shall be photographed crying into my pinny after epic fail friday ( explain to timmy !!)
-
ah I tend to ignore the Up goals – way too slow for BSD-ers. You’ll be there before you know it!
-
Brilliant news Igorasusual, what a thrill for you both! I’m glad the Medics took notice too.
As to the noticing other people, I am getting so smug it’s even beginning to annoy me! But at least I keep it to myself, well, at least I hope I do! π
-
I go away briefly because my parents are paying a visit and – bloody mayhem here.
Nobody’s noticed my weight loss either really, I’m quite cross lol. Only people who know about it. Mum said ‘Have you been out anywhere? No. What do you expect then.’ So that was me told lol.
Oh the baby stuff is beyond ridiculous, Timmy, that’s the worst. All mine had second hand prams, and I don’t care either. And proper prams too, not these that cost as much as a car and the baby looks ridiculously uncomfortable in.
It would be a great photo op if it ever happens Eps π Considering my daughter’s waist is smaller than my thigh circumference at the time of starting. Never say never, but according to the goals on my UP app, I’m 81 weeks off my goal of 62 kg. That’s gone down 3 weeks since yesterday lol, it obviously hasn’t encountered BSD before π
Stop mentioning the Q word… please… *retch*

Hope your day goes well. It might take you a little while to adjust to this WOE, but it will happen and you too will find that hunger becomes something of a stranger. Right now, as you and your body are settling into things, hunger is common. Just make sure you drink plenty, include some fats in your diet and avoid the carbs and even if you go a bit over on cals – like yesterday – you should still see some good results.
Keep us posted!
-
Day 3 – went over the cals by 88 yesterday but I still feel this is a win. I don’t know how people are not eating breakfast on this plan. I am starving in the morning! It’s 8am here and my stomach is grumbling so loud that I’m going to have to eat something soon to shut it up. Still feeling tired and hungry during the day too, but I’m sure that will get better as I progress with the eating plan.
Got the BSD newsletter today. The story in there should inspire anybody to be able to make this WOE work. TO be able to reverse your diabetes and have an active life like that was very inspirational. If he can do it, why can’t I? I wish we had BBC2 in Canada, but I looked it up and out BBC Canada will not air this program.
Onward and forward with the day!

Personally, I’m feeling much better and have more energy. My mood has improved too. I don’t think this is a “placebo” effect!
-
That was essence of…. quorn fish fingers!
-
hee hee you sure Janey? There was that incident with the granny knickers….
;-))))
-
Many thanks will take a look
-
I’ve got before pictures…..gulp.
Maybe i should do a ‘then and now’ pic when we go back to the place in Spain that we went to last year. you know, that place, where no body failings can be hidden… That’s late September. I’ve got 2 months to carry on the battle!I’m also a fan of charity shops, dress agencies and Ebay. There’s a smashing shop near where I work, and I’ve had some designer bargains from there over the years π About the only things I have to buy new are jeans, because they’re tricky to get right. Oh and underwear. Second hand underwear?? Nooooooooooo
-
that would be a great photo (the leg one with your daughter!!:-)) – you should definitely do it!
hee hee yes, ski gear is forever π
