  • Biggest one that I’ve noticed is my energy. I just want to do stuff now instead of vegging infront of the sofa in the evening.

I’m training harder than I ever have before, and it’s mainly because I just feel like exercising more. Yesterday I went for a swim in the morning and the gym later in the afternoon. I can’t remember ever doubling up in one day before. If I see a set of stairs/incline I just want to run up it. It’s a bit weird really! Lol.

The wife and the kids were away on Thursday night, and previously that would have meant getting the lads around for a few beers and playstation, but I blew them out so I could go to the gym instead!

  • Hi karenv

Both OH and I have noticed an improvement in what we might call ‘aliveness’.

He’s Type 2, hasn’t been very well with liver and other issues, and always felt tired in the morning, so dozy and unwilling to get up and start the day.

As we discuss the BSD and many other things in the sunshine in the garden with our coffee at 7am, I can say that we have both noticed a significant change. He says he feels better than he has in many years.

And there’s so much more time to get things done! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • I have a question: what changes have you noticed in your body/mind since you started the BSD?

Weight changes are fantastic (and that’s what I’m aiming for, that and blood sugars getting in a better range).

But I’m curious if people have noticed other changes since being on the diet – joints hurting less, more alert, more energy, better mood that sort of thing. I imagine that such a drastic change in diet must have a knock on effect on how you feel and how your body is!

Hi Puneet, welcome ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you’re having a promising start to BSD ๐Ÿ˜€

Janey, I’m going to see if I can add you via Twitter and then ‘kick yo ass, fool!’ in the step count. Hahaha, yes, like that’s going to happen.

Timmy, just… no. You know I have a weak stomach. If dog poo and Quorn make me want to vomit, then… sheesh.

Good advice from FoFi. You ask what carbs you can have. You need to go online and look up the good GI carbs. Forget about bread, rice, pasta, potato and chocolate cake (that was a joke). Look for carb like chickpeas, lentils, nuts, beans and pulses. I know they don’t sound very appetising but tell me honestly what rice tastes of, nothing, bland, boring, until you put a sauce on it or do something with it. Same with good carbs. Make yourself a pot of hummus, if that doesn’t suit your taste add some frozen peas and mint. Have something with you to nibble on like carrot sticks, celery, an apple, a small handful of nuts. These all contain carbs, just good ones.

I’m known for being bossy, so here goes, stop making excuses and get started on this wonderful journey for your health and weight and well being. You will enjoy the food when your taste buds get used to the change.

Also, can I just say, yes it is scary, it is new and innovative and exciting too. Join us guinea pigs and show the pharmaceutical companies that we are taking control back.

Day 9 – I couldn’t resist, I had to step on the scale this morning, I just felt smaller. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m at 8.6 lbs lost since my start last week – not bad for 8 days. I’ve been eating a lot of salads the last few days, I don’t know if that’s the help our if I’m just getting into the groove. Energy is back up. I weeded my garden for an hour last night and then got on the treadmill for 35 mins, not at the speed I was going at before, still not there for energy, but I felt being on the treadmill period was a good thing!

Way to go Napangardi! ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL I had to laugh a little because I pictured you literally having 1 cup of cacao with a bit of water. ha ha I’m not a morning gym person either, in my opinion mornings are not fun, give me night anytime! I can’t even get downstairs to get on my own treadmill in the morning, so I sure as heck am not getting to the gym in the morning.

Yes, I loved the aubergine recipe, I hadn’t had it since the 70’s when you had to salt and soak it to take away the bitterness. Now, I believe they had that fault bred out of them. I have had most of the recipes in the book and the only ones I don’t like are Beetroot falafels and anything with fish, prawns etc.

Hey there sunshine-girl, yeah I really wish I could persuade my dad to go on the diet but he is incredibly stubborn and hard to persuade ๐Ÿ™ I am hoping that if he sees me getting results and losing weight it might persuade him to hopefully give it a go, or at least switch to low carb mediterranean food. Fingers crossed…

Greenjanet that is fab you haven’t wanted to comfort eat! I know I haven’t been hungry at all, I just get that wee demon occasionally in the evenings saying ‘ooooh something sweet would be nice’…it’s not a hunger voice it’s a boredom, ‘what will I do now’ voice I think. So I need to keep myself more occupied in the evenings ๐Ÿ™‚ Off to the gym tonight for a quick HIIT session on the bike (and then a nice steam and hot tub after, ahhhh, makes it all worthwhile!)

That’s great you are on week 2 Yowser49! How are you finding it? Good to know that the tiredness/weakness should pass. I woke up this morning and could barely drag my weary limbs from the bed lol. I just need to be consistent this time and keep going. I like the forums on here, it’s great to have a community of people to talk to with advice and encouragement ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway nearly 3 days in, am going to have to find some new lunch recipes, I’m well supplied for dinner ideas but I bring a packed lunch to work so will have to get a bit more creative…today I had the lentil dahl from the Fast Cook book, it was very nice and filling, had it with a small flatbread yum yum!

    Onwards and upwards…

my pedometer is broken – it had previously survived a 30 degree wash cycle, but the 60 degree one was a bit much.
It’s had a couple of days sitting in cat litter, and tried a different battery, still very dead.
I am getting quite good at judging how much I’ve walked (I guess at the end of the day and compare it to the pedometer), but back to amazon for a replacement.

hi just joined yesterday.I did a similar venture 3 years ago when i was diagnosed with diabetes. lost 13 kgs. Soon i moved to a new job which turned out to be extremely stressful and my weight started creeping back up and went beyond the original. Now after about two years of suffering trying metformin I bought the book and am motivated to start again. last four days that i have been on this diet my morning sugar levels have been dropping and when i get home from work and check my sugar i almost jump with joy. I had forgotten how good it feels to get a decent reading.

reading all these posts is helping me stay motivated and foccused.

    Cheers

Thanks all for the kind words of support!

Frog, yes my mum is easy, i ask her what she feels like and she just says give me whatever and she eats it, her favourites are the no carb waffles, the turkey and apricot burgers and the cod with lettuce and peas, but she honestly enjoys it all. She was in a food rut with little appetite before the diet, except for cakes! Now as we are having such a variety of food and different everyday shes enjoying it more.

As others have experienced, we sit there looking at each other in wonder saying ‘are you hungry, cos i’m not!’ its amazing. My mum is happy with her own weight loss and inches too but is made up with my weight loss as well, i tell her its partly down to her for doing the diet with me and being so easy, as i find it easier when both of us are on it, eating the same things and using up ingredients etc,

I am still here. It’s just I am in Portugal at the mo. Very nice and hot. I am not bothering too much with 800 calories while I am away but am eating low carb. It’s just I find it a struggle not to have a glass of wine which then turns into several more! Hope it won’t do too much damage to the scales when I get home!
I have lost 10-11 pounds, but plateaued at that weight for an entire week which was frustrating.
But I am sticking with it. Well done Indy. Fantastic results. On your say so I have bought a fit bit. It is definately motivating.
Fuzzy Jammie’s, it seems like you are going through a lot at the moment so sny loss is a real achievement. Good on you.
I will post again when I get home.

You can start it with an easiyo sachet for your first one, then when you’ve got 2-3 spoonfuls left, just use that as your culture for your next batch!

Apparently adding in milk powder makes it extra creamy.

    Hi Lucky Maneki
I put weight on at the weekend (think pizza, cheese cake, croissant, carrot cake) once I’d had one ‘bad’ thing, it all went a bit mad.
But – couple of days of being very sensible, and I’ve lost the additional kilo and a bit more, so don’t worry about it too much!

It’s odd how supermarkets swap round isnt it? Our budgens closed a few weeks ago, and is having a makeover as a co-op, and I was driving away from home yesterday and a Morrisons I used to use on a regular commute has closed, but a tesco in the shop next door.

Just did a quick bit of googling. Looks like it’s dead easy to make it yourself in the easiyo equipment. You can do it with normal milk, but this involves heating the milk to kill of any bacteria then letting it cool. Or even easier, just use UHT milk.

I’m going to buy some organic UHT and have a go this week.

Ah yes, you see that’s what I’d try because it’s not supposed to be difficult. I will buy the smaller 500g version I think as I’m not sure I can get through a kg of yoghurt alone!

Each sachet makes 1kg of yoghurt! That’s pretty good value. In the supermarket you’d be looking pay ยฃ2.50-ยฃ5 depending on what you buy. Also, if you get the sachets on offer then it makes it even cheaper!

I’m planning on using my own culture though. The only thing I’ll be buying is milk then.
