That is it’s official name Jan lol. Food that you’re meant to burn 😉 It’s also good on pork steaks, but you do have to cook it in olive oil. I made the mistake once of putting them on a George Foreman Grill and they were shocking. The spices formed a dry crust lol. I suppose you could also mix the spices in olive oil and marinate the meat to the same effect. Just force of habit now. Just blast on high heat on both sides so you get the charred black lines on the meat, then in the oven for 20 ish minutes depending how thick they are. Careful on the cayenne though if you’re not a spice lover, the hotter the better in this house!

I was a shocking cook until about 2002 when we got our first computer. I’d just about got to the stage where I could cook a curry with a jar sauce. One day I thought ‘Sod it’. World’s largest recipe book at my fingertips. I was going to teach myself to cook. The first thing I made was Coronation Chicken and it was a huge success, so my confidence grew from there. At one point I was pretty bloody militant about it, if I could feasibly make it, I wouldn’t buy it. But I was making work for myself in the end with four children. I’m quite a good cook now, I must say.

I was just thinking..was in marks foodhall earlier..DD texted to ask me to get her frozen peas..i texted back garden or petit pois..didnt give it another thought til watching the news later.. A doctor in syria talking about no medicine,no bandages,no fresh food. One doctor was living on dried dates. Meanwhile all of them doing their best to heal bodies shattered by bombs. Makes me think, losing weight or not,we shouldnt be complaining,we have access to fresh food of all kinds,24/7, even the poorest of us,even choices to make buying peas! We are so blessed. X

Sounds like the people who blacklisted me from the MFP forum, our hair will fall out did you know, oh and at the end, we won’t have learnt anything so we will put it all back on, pfffffff I’ve come to realise there is only about 20% of people who are experimental enough to take calculated risks. We are not one of the 20% thank goodness.

If you’ve only watched it for the first time the other night, I assume you mean Series 3. C4 have them on 4OD now, so if you’ve any means of watching the first two series, do try. Every series has been brilliantly funny, but also different. The Christmas special after Rik Mayall died and the auntie was introduced was an absolute belter too. I’m planning on binge watching the first two series again soon.

Shame on you… although, pizza is pizza. I might have done the same thing tbh. I love pizza.

Hi Switzerland, I used to play around with a calligraphy kit in my youth! I enjoyed it but I never mastered it. Everything like this is calming I think! I’ve never tried pressing flowers either but we don’t really have any lol.

Mr Stud, I crave your freedom! My desire is to give up my day job, be around more for my kids and write/make/sew/paint things to sell. I don’t know for sure if I can ever make a living this way but I am going to try! It will be a few years before I could ever give up my day job anyway so I can work towards it slowly.

My daughter has a friend who wants me to paint something, and another friend who wants me to make her a keyring, My daughter wants another keyring, and my Mother – liked her painted coaster so much she has become my first paying customer. She called me last night asking for me to make her 6 to give to her friends as little christmas gifts (which is a compliment for me to know she thinks they are nice enough not just for us but to gift to her friends) I would do them for free of course but she wants to pay me. I’ll just ask for the cost of the materials though. Plenty time to be charging lol when I feel my skills are worthy.

Well today I deliberately had lunch at home (I had my usual shake for breakfast and then soup for lunch) so that I didn’t have to navigate eating out, it feels too soon after my slip up the other night. So we had lunch and then decided in the end to take the car and we headed into the city. My daughter now has her school shoes, and pens/pencils/folders etc. A scientific calculator and a pretty nice new pencil case (all the while I was thinking… I could make one of those) and her school bag arrived in the mail so I’m pretty sure that is her all sorted. Oh her blazer hasn’t arrived but it has been ordered so I’m hoping it won’t take too long. 3 weeks before she needs it so it isn’t like I left it until the last minute… and she needs new undies. I did buy the kids some sweets when we were out, and I did consider having something myself, but I stuck to my plan today.

We also went to hobbycraft… I got some paint in colours I was running low on and a new set of brushes, some zips for making things and duct tape with skulls on… just because. I probably bought some other bits but for the moment I’ve forgotten. In the mail I received some iron on vinyl which you can use to laminate fabric – I plan to make a new cover for my mobile with it. I have so much stuff now, fabric, ribbon, beads, key ring hardware, zips etc I really need to make stuff! I wish I had more time. It will get easier as my son gets older but I don’t want to wish his time away either.

I had a lot of holidays at work left to use up so I have a week off booked now at the end of August so I can do some crafting then. In addition my friend and I have tickets for the Rocky Horror show in September and want to make ourselves something outrageous to wear so I may be focussing on that by then! So much fun to be had.

Well it is nearly my sons bedtime and I have a headache so I best go get my glasses. I have bad habit of forgetting to wear them.

Oooooooh I found turnips today in Asda, so I bought two. Remember these? http://blog.paleohacks.com/hacks-turnips-instead-of-potatoes/#

Greg Davies? He’s known for playing the Headmaster in The Inbetweeners, and now he does a show called Man Down, Rik Mayall played his father before he passed away. He looks a bit like Rik Mayall but very tall and quite dishy in a weird way. Really funny stand up too.

Was the child with you??? Or are you trying to take pizza from a random stranger child????

My husband has no major health issues and weighs the same as he did in his 20’s (very slim). He does have mildly high bp which should have been left alone but he is on medication. Anyway, once a year he has to have an MOT which includes the heart specialist. Before he sees doctor cardio he has to have a full set of bloods done. He had the test this morning and his results have just arrived by email and everything is fantastic, even though it was not bad before. His fasting bloods are 5.2 down from 5.8, triglycerides were always a bit high but now are way down. Best of all, his cholesterol, again, never bad has gone from 4.8 to 3.8. I wouldn’t care, he is not even on this diet, just dips in and out depending on what I am eating. He has also started to include butter in his diet instead of margarine and eats a very small portion of full fat cheese most evenings. He also has the occasional glass of red wine, maybe total of 6 units a week.

If it can do that for him when he is not fully on the diet I am so optimistic to see what it has done for me. My test is on 8th August.

  • Hi Karen, I was a little bit heavier than you starting by 5 lbs, and week 8 starts tomorrow and I’m currently 15 stone 5 lbs. That week 2/3 can be a bit of a bugger, but after a couple of hairy days of carb flu the rest of it has flown. The only way out is through, remember! Good luck!

Yayyyyyyyyyyyy Tokyo! I bet you’re so looking forward to it!! When is the show? This year or next? The second ticket is for me, right? RIGHT??? 😉

People are just so infuriating aren’t they? He’ll probably hear about it again one day, maybe from a medical professional and feel foolish for ignoring you. What’s for tea, Tokyo?

I’ve just finished eating, left most of my salad and had a small piece of chicken left which hubby duly wolfed. I just can’t eat when I’m full now, I have to stop. Rugby on TV tonight so we will have some nuts to nibble on while that is on, if we feel like it. Weigh day tomorrow and I know it’s going to be a very small weight loss for this week, but a loss is a loss. Then it’s onto week 8! Doesn’t time fly? I am keeping on with the plan, because I still have so much weight to lose. I’m going to do another 8 week cycle minimum. The first week will be when I’m camping, and as it’s our ‘holiday’ for this year, I’m allowing myself one treat while we’re there. We’re going to go up to this little cafe high up in the back of beyond and they do soup and sandwiches and lovely homemade cakes and scones, I know the soup is GF and vegetable. So I may have soup and a sandwich. I figure one egg salad wholemeal butty isn’t going to be as damaging as fish and chips or a pizza or a kebab. Or a pie. The interesting thing is how I will cope without wine while I camp. Previously unheard of. Or whether I’ll crack and buy some while I’m there. I might buy a couple of those little bottles, the ones that have a glass worth in?

Lets just enjoy summer and the long evenings..we often have fabulous weather in September…when autumn finally arrives its beautiful and magical anyway..why not just enjoy each day as it comes! I guess there are gloom makers everywhere unfortunately..gotta feel sorry for them x

Hi I have been on the diet for nearly three weeks before I started a typical day for me was

Breakfast – malted shreddies and a ground coffee

Elevenses – cappuccino and 1/2 piece flapjack

Lunch – salad from bar usually tuna mayonnaise plus variety of pasta salads

Afternoon – cappuccino and 1/2 piece rocky road rage flapjack

Home from work couple of digestives and cup of coffee

Whilst cooking dinner couple pieces of chocolate or biscuit

Dinner – pasta based or rice based dish, fruit yoghurt and piece chocolate. Glass orange juice

    Height – 5ft 1 weight 10st waist measurement 32.5 inches

    Now:

Breakfast – 100g plain yoghurt, sprinkling cinnamon and tablespoon flaked almonds
    No elevenses
Lunch – salad with chicken or small spoon of cheese no pasta or rice based elements just leaves sometimes lunch skipped
    Afternoon small cappuccino
No snacking at all after work and whilst cooking.
Dinner – from the 800 menu in the book. Fizzy water to drink

Result: weight 9st 13 waist size no change.
Carbs between 20-40g per day. Fat approx 45-50g
After nearly three weeks – feeling baffled, fed up, hungry, miserable. Contemplating wine

    Hi Karen

I hope you find the motivation to keep to the diet, I am on week 7 and have found the sugar free sweets they sell in Aldi and 90% carob chocolate – only one square per day (if needed) have been good to keep me on the diet when I have felt like I needed extra. I have lost 2.25 stones so far and feel much better. I hope to keep going after having one day off on completion of 8 weeks.

That is priceless Jan. Bunghole! I think I commented on your thread when you posted about that, but I did definitely read it on my travels around. Well, let people remain in denial, we can only tell them, can’t we?

I’m sat here with blackened chicken salad. Chicken breasts, coated with 1 tsp cayenne, 1 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp mixed herbs, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, salt and pepper. Literally burnt on each side on a griddle pan, then whapped in the oven on a tray to cook. Made my wraps, or should I say tried to, they’re playing silly buggers again today, so I have one. Nice salad to go with, and Nando’s Extra Extra hot sauce drizzled over it all.

I manually log mine when it’s being daft Janey. Normally happens if I stay in bed longer than 8 hours. What you watching at the cinema?

My customers are so depressingly funny, one has just said to me ‘ I can’t believe it’s only a month and then it will be autumn’ and now I have to walk past the chip shop and the sweet shop to get home muttering, I am a BSDer I don’t need those. It’s as bad as what another one said to me last week She said to me in a hushed voice, she was the only person in the shop, in hushed tones she said, ” you’ve had that operation thingy , haven’t you, ” I said sorry what operation thingy, is that , then she said in a way like she was talking about flogging me some stolen goods or something. ” you know that bunghole operation they do when they tie up something to stop you eating” how I didn’t laugh I don’t know. So I told her all about BSD she then went into that glazed look and said oh no you can’t diet without eating pasta etc, I then thought about what someone posted on here where her husband gave the look oh I can’t do the BSD I will die without pasta etc. I then proceeded to tell her I had lost 18 lbs by eating beautiful foods. She walked away convinced I had lied to her I think, how can anyone loose weight doing the BSD look. But honestly aren’t fold funny I ask you bunghole, she meant keyhole.
That was funny, but Autumn wasn’t. So of to think about poached eggs and avocado, or it might be smoked salmon, ooh the excitement of it all. What you all having, I’m in a mood for talking about food.

sick and tired of being tired

at no point since going low carb have I had the fantastic energy other people seem to get
sometimes I wonder if I am not human as I seem to react the opposite to other people

i try to walk each day now but when i get home i just start to fall asleep
i honestly think my body is not capable of adapting to burning fat
the only time in the last few weeks i had bags of energy was after bingeing on chocolate

i keep on and on sticking to low carbs and avoiding so much
but i literally can barely stay awake after about 8pm and often doze off in the afternoon if i sit still

i am not expecting an answer because i don’t think there is one – except go back to carbs

Ahhhhhhh Janey, you’ll be fine as a one off. There are going to be one offs through our lives or we’ll end up going cray-cray. Think how bad it could have been? Or would have been once? I’m sure a few breadcrumbs aren’t going to undo weeks of good work. And you’re allowed dark chocolate. I didn’t do Lighter Life and I would never do anything that was like milkshakes because I would have had those and eaten too. Those days are over. Never again. Even in the unlikely event that I should fall off this plan, I’d never, ever go back, I’d just start this over again. Walk after tea, Janey! 😉 Or before tea even.

Jan, omg, I had to think about what on earth you were talking about then! I was sat here looking at the post thinking ‘Yep! Finally lost it. Nope have set the fitness pal app to what is recommended carbs between 25/50g I’ve been really strict on. I weigh everything and this week absolutely no snacking at all. Even if I wasn’t on the specific diet but still cut out all puddings, snacking etc I would have expected to lose some weight. Today I’ve put the inch back on round my waist that I lost. It feels more like my body is saying okay we are down to 800 lets readjust an conserve that fat.

I’ve been swimming 4 times this week followed by a scrummy glass of water that’s the dedication

Tonight I’m having a couple of glasses of wine and saying to hell with it. I feel fatter now than I did at the start!

Colleagues at work have lost a lot on this diet they are all surprised too by the non loss as they say I’ve always eaten less than them anyway ;(
