    Day 61
    Sunday September 18 2016

    Breakfast: none

    Lunch: 4 Egg Spanish omlette

    Snacks: None

    Dinner:
    2 Apples
    Handful Sunflower Seeds

I ate lunch very late today. Got up at 10 Am and ate the omlette at 3 PM.

Maybe if I can keep such eating habits possible, I can lose 6 or more pounds a week. I feel I am going very slow at the pace I am at now. I should really get more moving into the final goals. If I can not meet that goal, then I can not get any bespoke clothes in summer.

I really need to get new shoes also. barker Shoes look like best for the price for bespoke shoes. I can not fathom having these cheap made shoes anymore. My foot will get smaller too with the weight loss. So, I am waiting for the EEE size to shrink also.

    Day 61
    Sunday September 18 2016

Well, well, well. I have been eating up on carbs the last 2 days. The french fries and twizzlers I should have skipped out on. I got constipation from it somewhat today. Yet, my appetite feels a lot less today thanks to finally getting my trace minerals formula:

    http://www.devanutrition.com

I started it Saturday when I finally got it when I ordered it 3 weeks ago on Ebay. This is what sucks about buying online. Yet, I finally have it. I started it last night.

This morning, I was not hungry at all. I had a lacking of eating food today until 3 PM when I had my typical 4 egg Spanish Omlette.
I made my Electrolytes Water for the week. I hope to get a drink of it everyday. I usually forget. And the coconut water I also forget daily. But, it flushes out my liver and other organs when drinking the mineralized drink.

Dinner was nothing since I ate so late. I ate l;ate also because I got up at 10 AM in the morning. OMG! this is why I hate staying up too late. But it was worth it when getting my Flamingo and Tango back into motion. I hate these bars that anyone can go to in their jeans or sweat pants. I am quite amazed they have such fancy bar joints still around. Sadly, I have to go back to Berlin for finding Cabarets and a few Jazz Clubs. That was such a fun city in my pot smoking graduate school days! Oh, 10 years ago feels like It was longer ago. LOL
    ‘
I must be aging! OMG! I am getting older! I better starting saving my hair when I go to the barber shop. LOL I doubt I will look like Uncle Fester any time soon. Well, gotta go

I finished watching Trump and Hillary (Clowns for president) in the Show THE CIRCUS. Time for RAY DONOVAN in 3 minutes!
Season finale so i have one word for you:

    ADIOS! (Adieu!)

  • First day of vacation…lots of water, swimming, walks on the beach. Friends made dinner, had the pasta and scallops but only 1/4 cup pasta. Mainly spinach salad. Was so close to skipping dessert and wish I had now. I did eat a tiny portion. Also ate my regular good food…celery and a little ham for lunch, but succumbed to a couple of snacks today that I didn’t need. Going to let the kids finish off the snack food that’s tempting me first thing tomorrow, then I’ll be better situated I think.

Whoops – I was just reviewing the recipe – printing out last weeks food diary to take to DDCC tomorrow – I realised the entries for the individual recipe ingredients looked a bit odd.
The database entries that I had selected for lentils and beans were dried, rather than the nutrients for drained canned pulses – made a bit of a difference!!! – or it a just have been dodgy entries on the FatSecret Database.
Having worked it out again, the recipe is 436 calories, + 62g of carb, so not quite as horrendous – and without the tortilla & low fat yogurt which I left off, 211 calories & 26 carbs, plus I only ate about a third of the mix, so quite a bit less – plus the salad though, which I but green beans and avocado in, & oil for dressing, so another 200ish.
Feeling a bit mean now for saying it was rubbish!!! – the grow bag to gourmet cookery was still tons better though 🙂

Started the day with an hours walk followed by half a portion of cheesy beans on portobello mushroom which was really tasty. Had the same thing a few hours later after we’d spent a couple of hours at the playground. I think in retrospect I would have preferred to eat it all in one go, as intended. Funnily enough though, the sugar in the beans made Mrs C go all wobbly for a bit.

This evening we were invited to a friend’s BBQ, possibly the last of the summer. I pre-prepared steak with creme fraiche and peppercorn sauce. I rubbed the oil, butter and steak salt into the meat and put it in a Tupperware tub. I made the red wine sauce and reduced it to a very small bowl of thick sauce and I made a salad with spiralized cucumber and mixed leaves (with a squeeze of lime juice to stop it being so dry.)

At the BBQ I cooked the meat on both sides for three minutes – it was so hot it cooked the meat perfectly.

The steak was delicious and we swapped Prosecco for Pellegrino and a slice of lemon. Didn’t feel hard done by at all. In fact, quite the opposite. Other people were a little bit jealous. We’d been chatting about the diet and everyone assumed that a box of salad was all we were going to have. They were quite surprised when we dropped a couple of sirloin steaks on the barbie!

Today has been surprisingly easy when I thought it was going to be one of the toughest.

    Hello all.
Have managed to lose around 10 lbs in the last three weeks, so now close to my goal weight, around 10st 8. But despite a fair amount of fasting and exercise my BG seems to be on the rise, which has me puzzled.
May have to just wait and see what happens next.

  • Hi Nedds mum

fabulous advice from your fellow veggos and vegans. I am not but like to have many vegetarian meals, used to eat the wholemeal pasta and olive oil and veg about 3 times a week and had and still have seed and nut pancakes for brekkie several times a week, and some beans

I just wanted to say I have been here for 12 weeks and have had bad days and bad WEEKS – but still going. As the others told there are many vegetarians on this site and many resources out there on the web

    Good luck. Onwards and downwards

Lucky – what a great weekend,

That big bang you heard – that was me falling right off the wagon.

It has been a manic silly week inc community festival all day yesterday where I was organising a stand, so masses of prep before, long hours there, and then working this morning.

I gave into drink during the week, and a whole tub of Ben and Jerry’s this afternoon… And it was nice in the moment but very soon wasn’t. My body can adjust but it seems my stress reaction habits are not getting the message yet.

    Hi all
    New here!
I’m pre-diabetic according to my gp and I’m trying to get down to a healthy weight so I can try for my second child. I had a high bmi with my first and it’s just gone higher and higher.

I have been trying to plan my meals for this diet using my fitness pal.
My carbs for the day would come to around 52/54g daily, before I add on what I call a necessity for me.

I suffer bad from frequent cases of insomnia and every time it crops up I clean up my bedtime routine and have an arsenal of remedies to get me through it like lavender sprays, valerian root etc. I also eat 1 banana before bed as part of this (for the melatonin!) and because I suffer so badly with the sleep issue I can’t bring myself to drop it Incase I start panicking about it and it affects my sleep.

A large banana takes my carbs to approx 83g. I was wondering if this seemed too high and had anyone seen a decent weight loss with a carb intake similar?

    Thanks!

The heavier we are the bigger the gap between the calories needed to sustain that weight and the 800 cal. Weight loss comes from the deficit – so if you have a bigger deficit you get a bigger loss. Add in week 1 water rebalancing and a big start is not shocking – but it won’t always be at that level, and some people see a plateau stage. Others like me fall off the wagon and need to get back on. Though the body as you found does adjust to the new foods and the old ones are not as attractive as we remember… the body adjusts quicker than the mind and habits.

Have a read of some of the long term folk from here like captainlynne – people go for longer than the 8 weeks when bigger targets to achieve. It will give an idea of expectations

Hey Yowzer 😊 I had the most amazing day yesterday. I won’t put what I had to eat because… well. You know. But there will be a blog post with gory details and pictures soon if you need to know 😉 All (most) weddings are good but this knocked spots off every wedding I have been to. And doubt another would top it if I lived to be 300. Hope everyone has had a good weekend, and I am looking forward to easing back into normality. Although. Another overnighter next weekend, then my eldest turns 21 and after that… Hopefully, normality. And back on another round of bsd800. See what we can do by Christmas!

Catch up with you all when home 😊

Will be great to see how your HbA1c goes in October. Good luck for that.

Fasting bloods notoriously odd – try searching (top right) for Bill1954’s thread “this has to work for me” where it’s discussed by a number of people here. OH was told by Drs that they placed far more reliance on the HbA1c and also pre and post meal readings.

Best of luck with your ongoing journey and I hope the visceral fat is reducing and your clothes looser round the waist to show it. I’ve just found lots of belts to cope with my jeans slipping. 🙂

    Hi Sunshine-girl
I have made loads of silly mistakes with the carbs over the first 4 months on BSD but the good thing is that they are not harming us as they are all good carbs on the BSD. I have to confess that I haven’t followed the recipes in the book but have just taken out the bad carbs from all my favourite meals and just upped the good carbs a bit. The worst thing I did was guessing portion size. I thought I was really good at it but was underestimating by at least 50%. No wonder my blood sugars were a bit erratic when I was injecting insulin.
I never realised that non starchy vegetables had so many carbs – I thought they were carb free. The real surprise was tomatoes.

Fat secret has been a revalation to me because it calculates everything and saves all my favourite meals.

Hi everyone, new starter alert! I started Week 1 on Mon 12th September, weighing 112.7Kg with a BMI of 36.3. It’s the heaviest I’ve ever been and I was feeling lethargic, irritable, suffering from regular headaches, feeling permanently hot and drinking lots of water.

I hadn’t been diagnosed as Prediabetic or Type 2 but I highly suspect I might have been Prediabetic. I heard Michael Mosley on Radio 2 at the end of August and the 8 week plan appealed to me, so I bought the book and read it for a week whilst on holiday and took the plunge despite being told it was too much by others.

I’m going to weigh myself in the morning but have already had a sneak peak and the scales showed 105.4Kg. That’s over a stone in a week!

I was expecting a drastic start but nothing close to this. My target is 90Kg over the 8 weeks with an ideal weight below 80Kg which would be a BMI of around 26. I hold a lot of muscle mass so much lower than this and I begin to look unhealthy. Actually, the high muscle mass may explain my drastic start. Is over 7Kg unusual in week 1 for someone starting at 112Kg?

I’ve followed the plan very closely, using the recipes and guidance in the book. I’ve had lots of water to drink and I’m already feeling so much better. On Saturday I did eat 3 slices of pizza and had 2 beers and 2 alco-free beers with some friends, having already reached 106Kg I decided I would allow myself the indulgence. I woke feeling dreadful! A real hangover feeling, bloated and with an upset stomach which required several visits to the loo throughout the morning.

Needless to say I was straight back to the plan and with a full resolve that I did not want to feel that way ever again. I was out for lunch at a restaurant and even ordered a salad nicoise with dressing on the side and picked off the potatoes.

I’ll post my weekly weights as I go through the plan and look forward to hearing from everyone.

Have a browse round and you will find answers to yr questions or ask here and someone will jump in to help..theres a lot of experience here from longterm BSD ers such as CaptainLynne..read her story for some real inspiration! I think if you put Captainlynne in the search box,it will lead to her thread x good luck for tomorrow! X

  • Littlepete, I know next to nothing about blood glucose readings but that drop looks very impressive! Well done! I’m retired now but like you, I used to walk to work and back. I grew to love the little break it gave me between doing stuff at home and doing stuff at work. No-one wanting anything from me, just a hiatus to clear my houghts , plan my day / unload the day’s stress. I think the relaxation benefits are just as good as the physical effects. Hope the weather stays fine for you!

    AFTER DAY 4
    Weight 73.6
Walking : only 5900 ( ☹️ It rained all day)

I’ve told myself that I have to post these figures every day, as an added incentive to keep on track. Ideally, I know I shouldn’t need to do that, but in reality, I think I need to be publicly accountable, because otherwise I ‘m far too good at convincing myself that I ‘ll ” make up for it tomorrow ” .

The Wetherspoon pub local to me, they have a great range of ‘special’ menu’s such as gluten free, vegetarian and vegan and even points! But this was off the main grill section. An 8 oz Aberdeen Angus rump steak with just a side salad, leaves, tomato and red onion, all my favourites. I had a sneaky side fried egg too. I am seeing more and more choices on pub menu’s now that support this way of eating. Not that I eat out in them that often… every meal has calorie values on the menu too, even the scary ones like the BBQ ribs. (My OH added up the calories, at over 2000 just for one meal with the chips and side dishes). That’s before you start on the desserts.

Thank you all for your kind posts. I must admit though I was a little concerned when the pizzas were in the oven because the smell of them cooking was divine as it wafted around the kitchen. But when I looked at the cooked pizzas I just didn’t want them. That is a real surprise to me as in the past they would have been irresistable.
Re: the carbs. I have found if I have an almost carb free breakfast such as scrambled eggs it leaves more carbs for the other two meals. My carb allowance is mainly used on vegetables and it helps if I play around with fat secret in the morning. I will put in what I intend to eat but if the carbs go over I substitute for something else. I add low carb but high calorie stuff like brazils or walnuts which are amazingly high in calories but low carb and very satisfying. Cabbage or courgettes fried in a little butter bulk up the meals. Mushrooms are yummy also.
To get as low as 25g of carbs I have to severely limit fruit to 25g of blueberries from time to time so have been taking Vit C tablets in case I am not getting enough with the diet at the moment.

  • Hi Nomorepanic

Welcome to the BSD family. It seems lots of us have gone through similar experiences. I was married about 18 years and have been divorced a lot longer. There is light at the end of the tunnel 😃

    Wishing you all the best.

Well, if you came off the Metformin 3 weeks ago then presumably that may also have had an effect. No mention of HbA1c, so have you had one? Or is your feedback on BS from fasting or other tests?

I would think you can’t conclude anything about your response to rhe BSD until

    – You’ve done your 8 weeks and
    – you’ve had some HbA1c tests to judge long term BS levels.

And did the weight come off round your waist, as this would indicate reduction of the important visceral fat?

Let us know how you get on

The beans I used was 57 (I like that) five beans, of which half a can is 28g of net carbs with 8.8g of fibre. This was on a 1600 day (I am not yet doing full fast 800) and was part of an 80g carb day which may not work for some. I was attempting to up my fibre significantly as a ‘plateau buster’ and will have to see over the next couple of days whether it works. Tea tonight was meatballs in a homemade tomato sauce with veg which I found incredibly nice so will try using the same sauce with my own mixed beans to make my own version in the future. ☺

  • I have very recently been diagnosed as having type 2 diabetes and am hoping to start the diet soon. I have bought and read the books and thought I would try out a recipe to start with. I did the beef stir fry from page 51 in the book by Dr’s Bailey and schenker. I was a bit worried as the recipe says it’s got the following per portion

    Calories 290
    Protein 27g
    Fat 13g
    Carbs 5g.
However when I type the ingredients into myfitnesspal I get this:

    Calories 403
    Protein 36
    Fat 45
    Carbs 19

I think it might be because mfp is in percentages rather than grams, but that still doesn’t account for the quite significant difference in calories. I want it get this right is the second recipe that this has happened with (the other one being the Greek salad) which had over a 100 calories more when I loved it into MFP. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Hi Nomorepanic
Welcome to the BSD. This diet WILL teach you healthy eating. Not like all the other diets which promote chocolate ‘health’ bars, high carb, high sugar ‘health’ cakes, eat as much as you want, it is allowed. But it isn’t teaching us good eating habits that will keep us thin and stop us from swelling their coffers!!
But now all that is behind us, we now have the BSD.
As to your divorce, it is so painful and you think it will never end, it drags you so low, you wonder how you will ever manage to get through it and over it. But I went through similar and came out the other end and have gone from strength to strength. I am more confident than I ever was when I was married (30 years) and my life is good. Stay positive and take back control of your own life.
All best wishes for your many new journeys. Look forward to hearing of your progress. xx

Hope everyone is having a good day.
Am so pleased to report I am off insulin. This morning I was 10 stone 7 and three quarters of a pound – which was my goal. However, when I look at myself in the mirror it is very clear that I still have fat to lose – so I am staying on the 800 calories/25g carbs.

Today it was a grandson’s birthday. OH and I manned the kitchen. The food included pizza, sausage rolls, crisps, cupcakes, homemade biscuits, birthday cake etc. I was surrounded by everything that I used to be unable to resist. Amazingly I wasn’t tempted to even take one bite of anything. I didn’t have to use any willpower – I just didn’t want it. This never happened when I was on WW or SW. This really is a way of eating not a diet.
I had bought with me my homemade Kefir and some Brazil’s and just one square of dark chocolate. Not a very balanced meal but really delicious and satisfying.

Happy Monday. Starting weight for this week 130.05. No loss but no gain. AND I didn’t really have a great week food wise, was all over the place, so not going to complain. I think because I did add in the 2 low food days that this did make an ‘end’ difference, hence no weight gain. Back into it today! No excuses!
    How you going Willmac?
    Onwards and downwards!!

Thanks all, feeling much better on day 7 than I did on days3/4! Flat feeling had gone which is a relief and so have most of the carb cravings, I’ve lost 6Ibs this week which is s huge motivator to carry on. What I’ve mainly noticed though is that I’m enjoying good so much more, everything is much better tasting when it’s not hidden in and amongst a plateful of carbs! Onwards and downwards…
Good luck in week 2 topcoat 😊

For me it looks like the carbs are as important as the calories when it comes to losing the visceral fat. What is interesting is that I bought a pair of new jeans mid-August – they were quite tight, especially around the waist. I wore them today and they were so loose around the waist that they kept sliding down. This, I think, may confirm my feeling that I have lost visceral fat on the low carbs. Usually I never lose weight around my waist but usually lose weight from places that I don’t want to such as my face.
Good luck with your November HBIAc and with lowering your carbs.

Bill1954’s thread was the first thread I read and it got me believing I could do this. I am so pleased that captainlynne is still on this forum as I have learnt so much from her posts and will learn so much more as she continues her journey.
What is so nice is that there are so many people passing on their knowledge of this way of eating on this forum. It is so helpful because we are at the start of a diet revolution and our results will help to eventually overturn the current bad advice.

  • I’m not a regular poster here but I keep a track of whats going on most days.
So coming to the end of week 3 and all is looking (and feeling) good.

My weight is dropping slowly but surely.
    Start weight 127.3 kg
    Toady’s Weight 123.6 kg
Loss of 3.7 kg (8.1 pounds, 0.58 stone)

My blood glucose readings are looking good too
    Start 13.0 mmol/l
    Today 8.0 mmol/l

I take my readings every morning as soon as I get up and I’ve seen a gradual drop over the 3 weeks.
During the course of the last 3 weeks the readings have been as follows:-
    13.0
    12.8
    10.9
    9.7
    11.0
    9.0
    8.8
    9.8
    9.0
    8.3
    8.5
    7.5
    7.9
    7.4
    8.3
    8.5
    7.2
    8.0

I’m using a lot of the recipes in the book, and tweaking the odd one where it suits me. Eggs and Yogurt with berries have become the mainstay of breakfasts and being disciplined enough to take food made at home rather than buying at the shop every day has meant I’ve saved some cash too.

Ricotta, Pear & Walnut salad for lunch today was super tasty and I have a huge pan of Skinny Chilli in the slow cooker that will last me all week! Peppers with Feta & Pomegranate is highly recommended too. My taste buds really feel alive with some of this food.

I saw some discussion about Rapeseed oil. A tip for people in the UK. Lidl have British (made in Yorkshire) rapeseed oil at only £1.99 a bottle. Its a lovely deep golden colour and a very good price compared with £4.99 I’ve seen in Sainsbury’s.

I’ve bought a spiaraliser but have not yet tried it.

My exercise is walking just over 2.5 miles each day back and to from work. I’m not finding it a chore and I’m quite happy getting the earphones on with my music. Another way of saving money on car parking or bus fares.
I’m not following the exercises in the book – does anyone do these?

    Week 4 here we come!

  • Hi
I have had a dummy run this week and starting properly tomorrow.
My start weight is 10 stone 2
My goal weight is 8 stone 7
    I am only 5ft 1 and I will be 50 in January.
I have tried EVERY other diet going. I have put on a stone in the last year and I really do not want to carry it into the new year.
I was married for 25 years to a controlling man which ended in me suffering extreme anxiety and panic attacks. I am in the process of a very stressful and lengthy divorce.
I want to take control of my life and my weight. Please join me and any encouragement, advice and tips to success will be greatly received
    Thank you xx
