on 25 Jul 2017 at 14:05 in Welcome to the BSDEverything has gone quiet! Who is still with me? I have now lost 1stone 7lbs which I am delighted with.
I will certainly keep on eating this way as still would like to lose another 3lbs.
How is everyone else doing? -
Hi.
Thanks for the idea.I love good old Ribena, especially in the winter. But I cannot drink the sugar free stuff as it usually has aspartame in it and I am allergic to it.
Is the one you use sugar and sweetener free? I live in Turkey so it would be impossible to get it here unless I can get somebody to bring it out to me when they visit.

Ha ha. Yes we could be related.
I have never used a forum before but I thought it might be useful for the times when I find it difficult.
I made it through last night without reaching for the sweet stuff so I am quite pleased with myself.
I too am hungry today but I don’t know why. I really didn’t eat much less than normal, just not the bread or potatoes. I am very tired today also but I am told this will pass.
I am lucky that I am doing this with a friend so we can keep each other going and share meal ideas.
Good luck, keep in touch

on 25 Jul 2017 at 13:27 in Fast 800Bonjour a tous, still here and 2lbs down from the start. Some of you newbies might be wondering why a few of us are happy to lose just a bit or maintain. That is because we have been doing this for some time now and the motivation gets harder and harder. Why dont we give it up, well, some of us cant because of the effect on our health, specifically diabetes. I am 21 lbs lighter than when I started but more important, I now only use 20 units of insulin daily whereas at the start I was on 38 and 40 units. 20 is the lowest I have been on since I started using insulin. I have also cut my other meds by one third.
7 weeks into this and only one more week to go, unless you want to carry on. Seriously missing my swimming as the weather has been shocking here. Maybe I expect too much as it is around 25 degrees but I am used to it in the low 30’s. Also there is quite a cold wind all the time. Should get better next week.
How are the rest of you doing. Whatever your results just keep on keeping on.

on 25 Jul 2017 at 12:16 in Welcome to the BSDHi Verano – My weigh day is a Saturday, I think Jan’s is a Friday, not sure about Lainie and Hughsey (how you doin’ guys?). I found it faintly amusing that none of us weigh on the the traditional Monday. Looks like you have put a bit of thought andorganisation into a plan – it sounds really good Verano. Breaking it up into smll chunks seems to make it more manageable. As you know, I put on so much weight trying to be perfect for a 8 week period – overwhelming because ‘occasions’ creep in then you feel like you have blown it. I’m on 1000cals too. Not counting carbs but the only carbs I have is 2 pieces of fruit plus most veggies per day anyway. I tried that broccli bread – I cut it into 16 pieces at 75cals per piece. It’s obviously not bread but a good substitute. Have frozen them so they will last a while – see today if it freezes well or not . Going to have 1 piece with a fried(oooh!) egg – comes in at 175 cals leaving 25 cals for a wee salad.
Im going to try to post my weight loss every week (even when I have gained!) – that will make me stick to it! You can do this Verano – you have done it before!Hi Jan- hope you’re raring to go today! Sister – I already have 5755 steps done and dusted (brag brag – for today anyway – no doubt I’ll be back to square 1 tomorrow – lol).

on 25 Jul 2017 at 12:08 in Welcome to the BSDWeight gain for me! Been away for 5 days, and it went like this, 1st day no carbs. 2nd day, no food carbs but gin and tonic, third-day Indian meal, no carbs. then plenty of prosecco! 4th day, lots of prosecco. 5th day, no alcohol, but many, many carbs, quiche, sausage rolls, and birthday cake, twice!!
I weighed myself yesterday and had put 6lbs on. Weighed myself today and I’ve lost 2lbs, so weight gain this week is 4lbs.
I’m hoping that by next week I’ll have removed it all, can’t be actual weight gain, but boy, it is depressing. I’m trying to drink water constantly!!
It was my grand daughters first birthday party, we all got together for a weekend, had a really great time, family and extended family and in laws, it was such fun! I had sooo many positive comments on my weight loss, I think it went to my head and I felt, yeah I’ve done it, and I’m invincible, a few little carbs won’t hurt! How MAD is THAT!!!!! I really didn’t enjoy the food, and there was plenty of meat and salads, but, the devil in me said, what the heck !! I have now shot the devil in me! by the way, I’ve felt sick and bloated and quite ill for two days, that’s with just one meal of carbs and too much prosecco! At least I know that carbs really do not like me, and that is good, as I really don’t like the carbs!!!! -

The thing is i have gone more veggie eating more lentils and chickpeas rather then protein form meat. However my weight has stalled a little so prehaps i should swap back to more white fish and lean meats for the time being to see how I get on. I will shock the body with 800/30 prehaps? I just carry my weight round my tummy more so prehaps pulses even though they protein they are a bit too carby for me. xx

I’m a 5″ 10 ,m, 37 this year and and i weighed 16 stone 12.5 when i weighed myself this morning after drinking a pint of water. I then kicked it off and made perfect scrambled eggs with a quarter avocado as per the meal plan in the back of the book.
I’ve always been really fit and active and have a lot of muscle, but since moving to an office job and my son coming into the world in 2013 I’ve let myself go quite a lot and put on 4 stone. The downside is its all around my abdomen – bad visceral fat, i could easily be rolled down stairs like a barrel of beer. lol ๐
Being heavily involved in sport I’ve always avoided low calorie diets, but as this is simple and the logic makes sense to me i’m going to give it a good go. Mainly because I’ve noticed that i feel very different when i eat , and not in a good way, and my energy levels are through the floor. I’m hoping that this next 8 weeks are going to really help transform my life and my health. So hello to you all, i hope you can keep me inspired when I’m losing my mind over the next couple days!
lets go!
-
Sorry for being vague Gracie but instead of doing the fast 800 calorie regime with 30g of carbs, I’m trying 1000 calories with up to 50g of carbs a day.
You don’t say if you have lots or a little to loose but generally the answer to weight loss is ‘stick to the plan like glue’. Good luck.

Even though i have not responded to you all for a while. I do like to read the daily emails and want to say how well everyone is doinfโฆ.WELL DONE. I try and keep myself to 1000 cals a day as I exercise quite a bit, but as I have done my back in I will get it down to 800 cals a day. I have 4 pounds to loose in 2.5 weeks before my holidays. Weekends are the worst when I go over and I need to cut back on wine!! May I ask what 1000/50 is ?? I have never heard of this before. I did not know whether to put in a few fast days (500) cals for 2 days a week and keep the rest to 800 and 1000 at the weekend to shift this 4 pounds. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Gracie xx

Am still on track to lose 4lb during this challenge which will hopefully take me into the elusive 9’s. I am trying really hard to have new recipe ideas. Am drinking more water than ever to try and ease the fat out! I read that to lose weight you need to drink half to one ounce of water for every pound you weigh. I weigh 140 lb so I have worked out I need to drink 4 litres a day! Have I done my sums correctly? Am just on my third pint of water! Have a good week everyone.

Proud of all the others on this post as well: EC with the renos, FFBB, Mary and everyone. My challenges are nothing by comparison. However, despite a nasty mole removal last week that has become a bit infected, the stitches were out today and good news from the pathology with all the nasty bits gone. And I’ve stayed on track in spite of it and lost about a kilo this week.
I finally think that this way of eating (don’t like WOE as it looks sad) is taking hold and starting to become a habit, apart from the odd handful of chocolate batons.
You are all an total inspiration. Love you all. Haven’t heard from Liz lately, hope you, Kev and your mum are all OK.

Hi Guys, I am restating too. I did the 800 about a year ago, I stuck with it for 6 months. I lost 20kg and was stoked. I decided to take a break for a few weeks but would try and stick to the basic principles with a few treats here and there.
6 months and +10kg (oops too much wine!) I am going to have another crack at this. I am in winter at the moment so would really love to have another summer where the heat won’t bother me because of my chub.
I have spent the last month starting a diet every morning!
At the beginning of this week I started this way of eating again and have stuck to it for 2 days (yay me). Have just had carb flu hit.
I am 42 and want to lose 15kg to get to my ideal weight.
We can do this folks!!! -

on 25 Jul 2017 at 10:05 in Welcome to the BSDDear All,
I have had an amazing loss on the scales this week of 3.4lbs/1.5kg but it is mainly due to the side effects of my treatment for Helicobacter Pylori (which I wouldn’t wish on anyone). Having read The Clever Guts book I have been swigging back Kefir to minimise the side effects of the antimicrobials so at least I can leave the house!
It is a false result, I’m certain that when my appetite and digestion return to normal there will be an adjustment on the scales.
Hope your back gets better soon topcac.
Busybee- it’s 3lbs in the right direction, rejoice!!
Hotel Theodora – your change over day will be like High Intensity Training, hope you survive (and thoroughly enjoy) the tsunami of guests about to sweep in.Recommendation: To anyone with a copy of Tom Kerridge’s Dopamine Diet
Page 176 Spiced Lamb Shoulder with Curried Cauliflower
I cooked this at the weekend and the Curried Cauliflower is a delicious meal on its own. The bowl was licked clean. It is a lovely combination of cauliflower, halloumi or paneer cheese, onion, ginger, garlic, curry powder, turmeric and spinach. Delicious, please try it!Off to Camp Bestival down in Lulworth, Dorset this weekend for some great music (due to antibiotics I can have my first glass of wine on Saturday afternoon!). We are joining two other families for some mid-range glamping i.e., our own tents but proper showers and flushing toilets. Fingers crossed for dry weather – what is going on Weather Gods, is it July or October?
Best wishes to everyone this week – we’re half-way through the challenge! -

So sorry to hear about your back Topcac ๐
My shoulder is well and truly on the mend now thank goodness.
Well surprisingly/happily I’ve lost another 1lb and a half this week with my ‘Med style’ WOE. Haven’t calorie counted for the last four weeks but still the pounds are gradually melting off.Have been away again from Weds-Sunday, and if no better options were available for lunch I would just have an egg or two (which I’d hard boiled in the morning) and a piece of fruit or two. Saved a fortune on the carb heavy packed lunches that the others were having. They paid ยฃ10 a day for those. In the evenings I just made the best choices I could depending on which pub we were in. One night I had a fantastic feta and pomegranate salad, and another night blue cheese chicken breast with veg.
People really think you’re depriving yourself if you order salad don’t they? I guess I used to think that.Am working from home this week so I will try to get some good walks in with the dog.
Good luck for the week ahead everyone ๐ -

on 25 Jul 2017 at 09:35 in Fast 800I have been doing fast 800 for just over a year. I’ve done four lots of eight weeks and then bits in between of just maintaining my loss for a while.
I started at 18 stone and am now 13 stone 4lbs. So from a size 24 to a size 14/16 and 4 stone 10lbs loss so far.
I am off on holiday to the US for three weeks, so will be looking to maintain for that time and then have a long weekend booked for my 20th wedding anniversary. So I will be looking for some support to get started on another 8 weeks at the beginning of September.
I am finding it a bit harder to motivate myself, as I move into more normal sized clothes. I really want to get back to 11 stone though – which was my early 20s weight when I felt good about how I looked!

on 25 Jul 2017 at 09:02 in Welcome to the BSDI don’t know if there is a specific weigh-in day on this thread but my day is Tuesday and always has been for as long as I can remember.
So today is my ‘fresh start’ day. After just over 12 months on BSD I’ve draw a line in my journal, totted up my losses, taken my measurements and started a new page. I have divided the time to my birthday, a week before Christmas, into ‘chunks’ leading to ‘events’ in my life. So the first one is just over 3 weeks away and I’m starting this week with 1000/50 to get me back into a routine. I’m not using time specific weight goals because I find that counter productive but my first goal is to lose 1.4lb to get me back to my lowest BSD weight. Surely that shouldn’t be too difficult!!!
Hope you are all reaching your goals. Have a good week.

on 25 Jul 2017 at 08:51 in Welcome to the BSDMorning all – and another weigh in sees me going the wrong way on the scales!! A pound on. I’m not surprised as I did have more ‘off’ days than ‘on’ days in the last 7 and the off days were spectacularly off. However, I am now laid up in bed with a bad back, having helped my parents move furniture at the weekend. I felt it go, and that was it. Off to the GP today to make sure I’ve not slipped a disk then hopefully I can get back on my feet without the worry of doing more damage. Have a really important meeting at work today which I’m going to have to miss and several people who need me to do stuff but they’ll just have to wait. Have access to email at home but that’s it.
Anyway, wittering over, I had a good day yesterday ( not enough to save weigh in today but never mind) and I plan on another one today. At least when I”m laid up in bed I’m unable to go down to trawl the fridge too much lol.
Good luck with the rest of the day all – come shine or snow (not seeing much shine right now….)

Good morning everyone
Well just been weighed and I’ve lost 2.2lbs this week so now I’m just 0.2lb heavier than when I started 7 weeks ago! Still I do have one week left to make some sort of dent in this weight and hopefully I will because I’m starting my ‘fresh start’ today with 1000/50.
It actually feels quite good to draw a line under the last twelve, almost thirteen, months and start again. I did do quite well but can’t rest on my laurels any longer. It truly is time to start keeping on again for the next 3 weeks, which is the first ‘chunk’ of time set out in my plan.
Hope everyone is keeping on for the next week and will do well. Last week of our 8 …..

I will update on weight in a bit. First let me say….BLOODY WELL DONE ! You are amazing ladies and I am proud to ‘chat’ with you on here. We are all together in this journey and I am pleased or offer my hand and shoulder when you need them.
Kitty, I do hope you manage to get your swim in today and give your Nana a huge love from me. I never knew my grandparents and my daughters only had my mother (Jovis is an orphan). I do have an Aunt who is 94, who I love dearly and is like a mother to me. We need to venerate our elders more! They are full of wisdom and love. (well some of them are)
Hello 66….I was so sad to hear of your loss. It take incredible courage to recover slightly from that. I would have been so drunk I wouldn’t have remembered what day it was. You were incredibly restrained. Now, you must abstain in his memory also. What a lovely idea to have new glasses. I hadn’t thought of that. I might pinch that idea.
EC…it must be very difficult re bsd whilst the renos are going on. Be kind to yourself and if you have to chose between drink and food, choose food lol. Give your sons cuddles from me.
Madmare…I hope you are enjoying your holiday no matter what vegetable you think you are. I know I am a potato! Knobbly and versatile. I miss my mash!
Take care everyone.

Marie, 63kg sounds pretty good and whilst you say it could be better (couldn’t it always? ๐) it’s great that it’s not worse.
My challenge this month was to maintain whilst having non stop house guests and I suppose I am doing that because I haven’t yet gone over my goal weight, but let’s just say that I’m awfully glad I started out with 5lbs wriggle room๐ I have certainly needed it, and used it, but right now I have just 2lbs (at my worst I had just 0.2lbs ๐ฑ – too close for comfort) Current 5 guests depart today after a bbq, so will have a really strict day tomorrow (with lots of exercise stripping beds, laundering sheets /towels etc ๐) before the next lot arrive on Thursday. on 25 Jul 2017 at 08:25 in Welcome to the BSDWOW Esnecca that’s some recipe. I do like ‘crunch’ but I’m not sure I like it that much!!! I admire your cooking skills.
Further to SunnyB’s cheese recipe Yotam Ottolenghi has a wonderful topping for his Labneh which I will definitely try.
His cheese recipe uses 450g goats yogurt and 450g of natural yogurt but I’m sure just using Fage or another Greek yogurt will be lovely. So for the topping“20 black olives, pitted
1ยฝ tbsp roughly chopped fresh oregano
1 tbsp chopped parsley
Grated zest of 2 lemons
1 small garlic clove, crushed
100ml olive oil
20g pistachios, lightly toasted
20g pine nuts, lightly toasted
ยฝ tsp flaked chilli
3 ripe tomatoes
ยฝ a small red onion, thinly sliced
Coarse sea saltRemove the labneh from the cloth and onto a serving dish or platter. Use the back of a spoon to spread it over the plate creating a loose wavy pattern, about 2 centimetres thick.
Next, dice the olives or chop roughly. Place them in a bowl and add the oregano, parsley, lemon zest, garlic and olive oil, reserving 2 tablespoons of oil for the tomatoes. Use a pestle and mortar to crush the nuts unevenly, leaving some just broken and others finely crushed; add to the olive mix and stir.
Spoon the olive mix over the labneh clearing about 2 centimetres away from the edge (you donโt need to use the whole quantity if you want your labneh a bit milder). Sprinkle with chilli. Finally, cut the tomatoes into thick wedges and mix with the onion. Arrange on a side plate next to the labneh, sprinkle with salt and drizzle with the reserved olive oil. Serve the labneh and tomatoes with torn out chunks of bread.”
Obviously we’d omit the bread! But this is just my sort of dish. Ottolenghi’s website is http://www.ottolenghi.co.uk and there are some other nice recipes such as Turkish vegetables with yogurt and chilli oil. I’m not sure how calorific some of the dishes are but I’m sure they could be adapted.

I had a similar mirror horror experience yesterday.
Our bedroom in the lovely villa has internal shutters on the windows. I had the windows open whilst applying makeup and caught sight of my rear view in the glass.
I HAVE NO WAIST AT ALL!!
I have enormous shoulders anyway but I AM SO BROAD!!
If as Liz,s lovely Polish lady would say I am a leek I am in the monster league that those Northern lads who grow leeks compeiviely would be delighted to possess!!
This has not sent me into a drinking spiral just th cold determination that something HAS TO BE DONE!!
It’s not going to be easy, there are no scales either for portion control or weighing me, but just need to be sensible
Remove carbs as far as possible and limit drinkingLove to you alll

on 25 Jul 2017 at 08:02 in Welcome to the BSDhaha, sorry Kitty….Australians are notorious for abbreviating everthying…names especially!!
renovations!! our state Govt has released a loan scheme (interest free) for energy efficient projects, so we are insulating and putting in hydronic, underfloor heating (we live in the coldest state in the country!)…but arguably the most beautiful!!

on 25 Jul 2017 at 07:49 in Welcome to the BSDI’m so humbled by the generosity of life’s tales in this group….Lee what a beautiful gesture from your dad, and H66, thankyou for sharing your story of your son….I hope whatever gives you solace is yours….It makes me want to gather all my kids up and wrap them in cotton wool but that would be counter to living well too!
We’re alright this mob and here for one another
This journey (as as been expressed previously) is not just about physical health.
All good here on most fronts….renos have stalled for a few days (respite!) and work beckons loudly as deadlines approach
Two good BSD days, though am wearying of soup (and I love soup!!).Dinner out tonight, but Japanese, so should be plenty of healthy choices
border collie also beckons, so a quick walk before we head outlove and strength to you all

I am a significantly overweight 50 year old woman with about 100lbs to lose. I’ve just done my first fasting glucose test and it was 6.4, putting me firmly in the pre-diabetic range. *glub*!! A bit shocked although I’m not sure why, I’ve been on a food bender for about 18 months now, so I should have known this day was coming.
My friend and I are doing the BSD diet and I have chosen to go the 800 cal way. Today is my first day. I’m so looking forward to getting to know everyone and to seeing this through.
Here goes!

on 25 Jul 2017 at 07:33 in Welcome to the BSDGood morning my lovely friends,
Nice to meet you H66, you don’t need to worry about drinking on your sons birthday…who wouldn’t? Lovely idea to have special drinking glasses โค๏ธ
Well I’m awake so… breakfast, walk, shower, tidy, loads of washing and hopefully ready to take nana (95) to hospital at 12:30!
I’m also cutting out caffeine whilst following BSD and I really missed my lattes yesterday…however if that helps with ny hot flushes, I’ll do it!
Have a great day everyone

Hi guys glad to hear ye are still alive n kickin’ – I’m kinda in a boat without oars at the moment – not gaining but not losing either. Have been enjoying the glorious sunshine a bit too much and using it as an excuse to eat- drink and be merry (a little more than usual) so I need to pull back a bit. Am still keeping to the woe as much as possible but did have PASTA at weekend – very unintentional – but ate it all the same. First pasta since starting in Feb – ordered a lovely fish dish but it came with two stuffed cannelloni – hey wasnt’t going to say no but I really didn’t enjoy it the way I thought I would and realised that I don’t miss it at all and will probably be another six months or never if I eat it again. I too have to get out an move more – life seems to get in the way – that’s my excuse for being lazy ๐

Thanks Mixnmatch I may buy some and keep in the freezer. I’m struggling with not having carbs for breakfast. I’m just not good with eggs, so may cave occasionally ๐.
